Itagaki Considers Making DMC4 Producer An Enemy Greater Than Namco/Tekken
Well, God of War is on the bottom of that list of three, by far. ;)
The shurikens were more like a burst, three in a row and then a pause, and the bow is a single shot, aimed weapon.. Way different than the rapid fire pistols.

I guess I just saw it as a weakness of why would I get close when I could just walk backwards and mash the shoot button until the enemies go away?
If you only used the guns to kill the enemies you'd be fighting them for a long time.

And there are weapons that aren't rapid fire in DMC.

Besides that, the pause in NG could be as short as you wanted it to be. The shurikens/guns in DMC are pretty equal since they aren't very powerful at all.
Would you use only shurikens to kill a room full of enemies in NG? You shouldn't in DMC either.

And I agree, GoW is definitely at the bottom of the list.
Not allowed. This is the internet. You need to declare an alligence and insult the opposing product. Often times without playing it, just to prove you're hardcore.

I'll probably buy both. Or neither. Depending on what else is released around that time. Neither game really kept my ass glued to my couch.

Even if I don't like a game I seldom go to the "Comic Book Guy" level of criticism that I see others use on the internet.

In regards to 3D fighters, I legitimately like the DOAs and the Tekkens of the world a lot. I even liked VF4:Evo (first time a VF game really had enough flash to back up its substance for my tastes). Something has to be a REAL turd for me not to like it all, like War Gods or something.

I have been fond of the Ninja Gaiden games ever since the NES releases. They were the first to really introduce cinema scenes to games and I loved the control and action in those classics. I even liked the arcade verson. The Xbox version was just in its own league IMO. It was like Rygar, Prince of Persia, and DMC all rolled in to one Team Ninja package. The only other games I had as great an experience with on the Xbox was Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Halo 2.

DMC was just very cool when it game out. Dante was a great character design and the the action was awesome. I just wished Trish was playable...

Oh, and I loved the God of War games. The only action games I completed last generation were Ninja Gaiden, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Devil May Cry, God of War, God of War 2, and Rygar (very underrated IMO).
I've played through both previous versions, and finished all difficulties (except never played ninja dog) and all challenges. I'm not saying the AI isn't good, just I think making the claim that it's the best in any game is not one I'm ready to accept.
hey no problem, I'm skeptical of anyone else's "best ever" claims as well ;)

regardless of how effective or how long it would take, It still makes no sense to give the player that option to grind the game to a screeching halt and jam on the pistols to clear a room, which is easily doable much of the time in Devil May Cry. Anyway blah blah arguements I don't really like either game all that much, but I'd take Ninja Gaiden's approach.

Grind the game to a halt?

Yeah...I'm done talking about this with you.

Heh awesome. Itagaki is a cocky bastard, but its fun to read. I've played DMC 3 and Ninja Gaiden about the same amount. Both of them got me stuck so I've never finished either. I'd say Ninja Gaiden was the better game. I really liked the strength of the guns in DMC 2, but I tried doing the gunplay route in DMC 3 and was only able to make it so far.

yeah...they figured that people wouldn't want to waste a year of their life beating DMC3 with pistols. I'm trying to think of a situation in the game where it's safe and logical to clear a room with pistols only and it's not coming to me...

Why wouldn't you do it if your life is down to almost nothing and you have no recovery items?

Wouldn't you complain about a fighting game that had an exploit that would allow you to spam one attack to defeat your enemies safely? If Tekken had dual pistols and I could just flip backwards and fire repeatedly at the other player, would you say, "well just don't do that then" in response? No, it'd be game breaking.

The problem is that in DMC3 if you try that when you're low on life you'll die very quickly. Not only are many enemies immune to guns, but they have very little stopping power. The guns' main purpose is to increase combo count.

I wouldn't do it because it's futile. as rei said, a lot of enemies are immune to guns and they do peanuts for damage. You might as well take a chance at really trying to kill some guys and hope that they drop a green orb.

Well I would say Ninja Gaiden is the same in that regard. I remember beating a big ass bone dragon using only rolling and shuriken once I was almost dead. It took a good 10-20 minutes.

yeah I guess I'm probably wrong, it just bugged me when I was playing Devil May Cry.

Maybe I just like ninjas more than demons.

No you are wrong, no guessing to it. ;)
Wow, I really can't fathom people being serious saying DMC is better than Ninja Gaiden. Weird.

To each their own though. :)
David Jaff says he prefers Devil May Cry 3 to Ninja Gaiden on Xbox, and as we all know, his word is law (and if you don't take it that way, he will publish a very offensive post about you on his blog). ;)
