Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

I'll wait for it to go down...maybe people are more excited for PS3 titles coming to PS4 (I know this will be gorgeous), but for myself, I like to wait for price drops.
Oh definitely, just kind of shocking given it launched at 49.99 on the PS3 back in August of 2013.

Shantae's final DLC is releasing within the next couple weeks. So below is the trailer for the DLC. It should be cannon that takes place during the main story. Also Iconoclasts received a release date of January 23rd. It's from the developer of Noitu Love. It looks like it'll be a fun metroidvania and it'll release on PS4/Vita along side the PC release.

It's like DOAX3. Just a model viewer.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I've got no problem with that.

Yeah, definitely agree about the map, how could they not include a dedicated one? And it's rather odd that there's no digital manual or in game tutorial archive or guide. You even have to buy tips on how to play in game. Really an odd decision.

There's other things I could go on about, but I'm still enjoying it, so I guess in the end that's what counts.
I'm enjoying it as well but here are some things not mentioned that bug me about XC2:

1. Unless I'm missing something, you can't tell which monsters are aggressive just by looking at their level/name when you press R.

2. Loot flies off way too far when opening a chest or defeating monsters. I've lost some due to it falling off a high place.

3. Voices repeat way too often especially in battle. "Think ye can take me? Don't forget me!"

1) Correct. It's a step back from X. Things seem to start having delayed aggro about 5 levels lower than you and will stop aggro'ing around 10 levels lower than you. Some exceptions apply. I just assume everything aggros prior to seeing their level though.

2) Yep. Lost a ton of stuff. I've also had items fall into water and not let me pick it up twice for whatever reason.

3) Yeah. You can disable battle (?) voices entirely I believe, but it's too much regardless.

I've also crashed 3 times now. Clipped through walls about a half dozen walls (Most common hitting ladders at weird angles). Fell through the ground once. Had mobs reset on me in the middle of battle more than a few times. Had enemies spaz out and run out of aggro range faster than I could catch up to them. Then there was a 'runner' enemy that aggro'd about 20 mobs before I died as it never stopped grabbing new ones. Also been killed through the floor and wall never seeing what aggro'd me. Oh and using potion abilities on larger enemies sends them flying waaaaaaay away from the enemy.

I'm sure there are more, but I'll stop there before I make myself angry.

Draekon are you playing docked or undocked when you have these crashes?
Docked as I pretty much never play undocked. I've looked around and they seem to be somewhat common among people with a fair amount of hours played. One of those wasn't a traditional crash, but the game hit infinite loading during fast travel which forced me to reboot the console.

It seems like the longer you leave the game on continually, the worse symptoms appear (such as textures taking much longer to load in). It may be related to that since I tend to leave it on for long periods due to one of the game mechanics since putting it to sleep stops the timer while I do other things. Every crash/infinite load has been after a long period.

The game doesn't auto-save outside of using Core Crystals, so just be safe and save somewhat frequently. It may also help to save and reboot the system game if you're seeing texture issues become more of a problem too.

Yeah, that runner enemy got me killed once so I avoid or run away from them now. I haven't had any crashes over the 15 hours or so I've played but I do put the system into sleep mode whenever I go to bed or work. I don't think you can turn off the battle voices. I tried turning off "Battle Narration" but everyone was still yelling over each other. That setting only disables the guy who says "Heat Topple" and stuff like that.

Whoever said Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada was good, they were right. One of the better Musou games I've played in a while.

Much better than DW: All-Stars.

Azura as a playable character was already reason enough for me to want the DLC. These outfits are the icing on the cake. :)

Looking good. I swear, if I ever lived in Japan, I'd be in debt from constantly going to the arcades lol

Hoshizora no Memoria nice.....It's a pretty good visual novel honestly and well worth playing. I will be purchasing on Denpasoft....man I wish they just provided patches. Decent length too. Don't miss out on it.

Imouto Paradise 2 coming in a few weeks too and I already played and finished Tenioha! Girls Can Be Pervy Too! if anyone wants a review. Heck it should be quick so i'll do it sometime this week. I'll likely give a re-review of Hoshizora and will likely be playing House of Fata Morgana soon as well. It's my VN month so far...done 3 so far.

Yes it's a huge cash grab, and i'm a sucker enough to buy them again when they go cheap, such as the KH collections, or FFXHD....and someday Devil May Cry HD. Also stuff like GOW3. Those games aren't that old...but to play them on the nicer controllers....

I love HD re-releases. I prefer them when they make meaningful changes, though. Like how much better FFXII looks, or all the KIH games being 60 FPS now. For revisiting classics or playing a missed gem for the first time, it's always sweet to get an objectively better version for a modern console. Then again, I'm a PC guy, so the whole idea of all of these amazing older games being static because: consoles always bugs me anyway. This is a very restricted and expensive way around that lol.

Well, I'll upgrade my PS3 copy just like I upgraded RER and both Dead Rising (among others). I'm playing right into their hand, but it's not like they put a gun to my head either. It just feels good to have all these games under one platform.

I like them too, especially when they make them like $40 for 3 games or so. But, there's often issues. KH had camera issues, and FFX on PS4 had a broken random number generator.

And re-re-releasing them gets annoying too.

Imma wait for the collection to drop to llike $15 or something.

In the mean time, I got Okami HD to play instead.

And Battlefront II

In fairness KH *always* had camera issues (still one of my top 10 or so favorites).

Wish ATLUS would spam me with HD PS4 rereleases like Capcom does.
I still hope Atlus surprises me and reveals a P4DAN HD for PS4 to go alongside the P3 and P5 versions.

Your first post got me super hyped then you had to go and ruin it with your second. I guess I shouldn't be surprised about Bayonetta 3 but I'm still disappointed it won't be on better consoles.

Random Q, Anyone order from IFFY store during black friday? I have't gotten any shipping notifications yet and just wondering if anyone else has gotten their orders shipped or we all in the same boat

Steam All Ages

Too many high quality VNs in a short amount of time. Also on Steam as all ages likely with a patch for 18+ (likely will go this route). Looks cool and has a lot of action supposedly.

Well, I'm not going to put down Xenoblade to start the Zelda DLC, but it's nice to know it's waiting for me.

Great to see another Bayonetta. Considering we wouldn't have 2 without Nintendo, it's not surprising seeing the 3rd there too.
