The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

Play Yakuza 1-4 just do it. You should still be able to find them for fairly cheap.
Don't have a PS2 and none are on PSN, so I'll have to emulate the first couple. I do have 4, so I'll start looking for 3 if I like the first 1. It's a shame they never came out with the HD collection here.

Eh... I'd get it for cheap just to cut down the size it takes up, but that's it.

Also, about the New 3DSes, the swappable faceplates are for the non-LL/XL. Saw an Animal Crossing faceplate up at Amiami.

If only to happen, even have the trilogy (1, 2 and 3) on the PS2. >_>
I'd only hope they would put the time into re-releasing them the way they wanted to rather than the rushed product we received. If I remember correctly, Xenosaga 3 had way too much crammed into the story and it became quite convoluted.

It probably wouldn't take much effort to port them considering they did it for the first 2 on the ds of all things.  But there's no way it will get a remake as that would take a crap load of effort.  On another note I don't see how it would be possible to rerelease them since bamco is the way they are and monolift soft or whatever their name is that made the games is owned by nintendo

The IP is owned by Namco so it wouldn't be a problem. Notice how they continue putting KOS-MOS in as many crossovers as humanly possible. And most HD collections are outsourced to external developers anyway.

And I forgot about that DS remake. What a weird idea for a port that was.

Personally I'd probably buy a Xenosaga HD collection the first time it got a decent sale.

I'd rather have a new Xenogears, but that's just me....
I've always loved this game and it consistently has always been one of my top two games. It's sad that unless Square-Enix allows another company to work on it, I doubt we'll ever see anything from that universe.

Got an order in but really hope that can place an order in store at Best Buy so I can use GCU or in store at Gamestop as they never seem to crush boxes on me.

For anyone that got Akiba's Trip for Vita does the game have a lot of glitching like particle fragments glitching across the screen? I can't tell if this is a game glitch or if the copy I have is just bad
never noticed, though the one game crashing glitch is related to item inventory, try to reduce your inventory, xseed was supposed to get the company to address some of these issues, but seeing how they didn't bother fixing the Japanese one, I doubt they will fix it now, you should go to gamefaqs boards to search for more answers to your problems, after somebody figured out how to prevent the crashing issues, I haven't had any issues, played through 5 times already

Yikes, hopefully they clear this up for the ps4 release and not just lazy port it. *crosses fingers*

well its not up to xseed but aquire, cant get on xseeds forum, but they may have already answered the issue, if not, the more people go on their to question and ask, the more xseed will try to get aquire to fix it, unfortunately xseed is a very small company and marvelous doesn't really support them either, love their unsensored stance on games and they don't screw up translations like nis, but I wish somebody other than marvelous bought them

I got my Amazon order for MH4 UCE. I'm not 100% sure i'll keep it but i'll worry about it when it is released sometime next year. I really am not sure if I'll be working in my job starting next year so i'm keeping my options open. Don't want to be stuck in any order.

Is there any possibility of tales of hearts r being compatible with na's vita tv when both come over here?  As I read that the jpn ones aren't compatible and I have no interest in buying a regular vita just to play it on a tiny screen when this is going to be a reading heavy game.

Yes, that totally sounds like an upgrade Japan would make just for us.

Anyone think the MH4 Ultimate CE will sell out? I'm not sure how popular the game, and I don't know if it's any good as I've never played it, but I ordered a few just in case. Doesn't hurt to pre-order on Amazon.

Good for you.

BTW, Best Buy has Monster Hunter listed as $30. It says coming soon, but it was live yesterday.

Played the demo for Freedom Wars quite a few times at PAX. Loved it on the Vita, cannot wait, although sort of wish could pick up for PS4 too.

Elminage Gothic releases on September 18th - $9.99 for pc

Agreed Freedom Wars looks fun. I really don't like MH games but when they get a quickness to their combat and some different tricks in there such as Toukiden (just grew repetitive but I liked this game) I enjoy them till it becomes way too samey.

60 ain't a bad price for either. Specially when you consider that the Bravely Default CE was 70 or 80 I think. That came in a flimsy box too that most people had crushed upon delivery. I don't believe this one does.

I don't know what's more sad too. That Square produces overpriced filmsy crap or that CRAPCOM, yes that company, can produce a good one!

Bravely Default CE was $50 at release, 55 for Gamestop, and it was very worth it. At least if you didn't order it from Amazon.

I don't see Waifus so no.
There are waifu in Freedom Wars. The Government uses waifu Idols as their propaganda to say that its okay to have a 1 million year sentence.

The track was arranged by Freedom Wars composer Kemmei Adachi, alongside Vocaloid producer Tennen, a.k.a. Oppiroge P.

Wasn't Freedom Wars' reception lukewarm in Japan? Has anything been improved for the U.S. version?
I think that was in regards to the difficulty for Freedom Wars, as that was everyones' complaint from what I remember.

that was a huge issue plus characters, controls, enemies, etc I believe it only sold about 40,000 at launch because it was so bad, they said they would fix the issues, but haven't heard if they ever fixed the japan version, I believe the release date for us got pushed back because of this so hopefully it means we get a fix version, but it also means what problems are still their means that they wont patch for us either, since the single player campaign is so short, not sure if its even worth it, their is a reason its 30$ new, meant mostly for online matches

FW also has one of the worst crafting systems in a hunting game due to real time waiting and losing passives or stats when actually upgrading a weapon. :???:

I borrowed a friend's copy of Freedom Wars when it first came out.  It has one of the worst crafting systems I've experienced in a Multi-player (Hunting) Action game.  You had to wait for the crafting to finish in real time, and the bonuses are random, which in turn can make it useless for certain weapon types.  Lots of multi-player features were also missing.  Enemy variety is pretty terrible, re-skins of the bigger enemies are common, with almost no changes to their move set.  AI is terrible and will get themselves killed, as they'll try to rush towards you if you need help.  Gameplay is pretty decent and feels somewhat fluid.  Faster speed doesn't make it necessarily a better game in the same vein as MH.

yah there is going to have to be some drastic changes if I ever touch this game, I have been buying a lot less Japanese company games because of the new trend of selling unfinished/poorly made products and never fixing them, hay, spend some money once and a while or not do the game period. as long as enough people buy their game up front, then they consider it a win with enough money made so why put more into it and take a chance of losing profits.

I'm glad someone else beat me to the Elminage Gothic screenshots and the news - thank you Asmith906!

I also *JUST* found out that Planetarian is live on Steam.  It is 25% off for the first week and is $7.49 right now.

As if the news wasn't just getting better and better for Japanese games and visual novels.  :D/ :D/

Which is just what I needed compared to the Smash news that felt like a crowbar to the nuts.

EDIT:  Elminage Gothic is only $7.99 as another preorder bonus (only until the 18th), but so far I didn't see or hear much about the game other than information from NeoGAF.

Why you disappointed in the new Smash. It looks alright seeing the Treehouse footage today. Course i'm not a big fanboy who cries over characters missing or such. I just want to play with friends really.

Also Planetarian looks aight...need to get it sometime.
