The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

I have two Rorona LEs, one open and one sealed. WHAT IS WRONG WITH US?! That's like 12-15 copies between 4-5 people!

I think limited editions for most RPGs are becoming scarcer, maybe just by a marginal value; it seems like the eBay has been trending upward, or at least people sitting on 0 bid products with 3-4x markup or insane buy-it-now price offers, possibly just something to do with search results or page placement, and even some with "29 sold" notifications on their ads for limited editions that were supposed to be "no more than 3 per household." I don't know what's been really going on with eBay and these limited editions, but it definitely smells fishy and no not you Phil, sit down.

Personally I also find $20-25 the convincing price point for a fighting game, though some fighters have a surprisingly high and strong price-point until an upgraded version comes along, with the only exception of Street Fighter x Tekken as one of the faster price drops I've seen on a game, likely caused by the publish backlash of having the DLC characters been found on the disc, which, please, let us not tangent off into discussion of "on disc DLC."

I bought 4 copies of Rorona, and I'm still waiting on a Rorona Plus sale, so I can finally PLAY it.

I... think I need help.
I'm the same way, 2 copies of the original Rorona LE, one vanilla copy which I bought at play-asia when it went on sale for $21 and one copy of Rorona Plus.

Not going to bother with chronphantasma since chronophantasma extend got announced a while ago. ill just wait for that version to be localizedm

I actually succeeded in my gaming resolution last year, which was to beat 1 game per week. Ended up knocking out 58. Granted there were only a handful for platinum/100% games (around ten) but so many games just have you doing time-consuming repetition bullshit for the trophies but don't have you doing anything new or exploring the game more for the "accomplishment." So I'm fine with that.

Planning to do a variation on the same thing in 2015, but it'll be "finish and review 1 game per week." I wrote a few reviews last year but wasn't good at all about consistency and completely abandoned the attempts after a while.

Also planning to do a programming project per month this year. We'll see how the extra time required for those two goals meshes. It may be too ambitious.

How long until project backlog year gets postponed to 2016? :p
Lol, I give it a few months before I'm back to obsessing over trying to platinum certain games. I'll start a game up and think, "I'm just going to enjoy this," which turns into, "Crap, I have to reload my save, I missed something for an item gathering trophy."

We all do, my friend. I finally just started Ayesha. 2015 is officially my "Project Backlog," year. I plan on trying to play and beat my games rather than obsess over trying to platinum them and spending months on a single game.
I feel like if there was any year to focus on a backlog, it was 2014.

Speaking of Chronophantasma, are they ever going to release the Celica and Lambda-11 DLC?

Or are they only going to be in the extend version?

Or maybe I'm just thinking wrong and they were always only for the arcade version....

I feel like if there was any year to focus on a backlog, it was 2014.
Yea it was ! I stopped trying to Plat everything and almost beat all my ps3 backlog which includes all the ps plus retail & most psn games. Only have like 3 games left that I recently bought during holidays.

There's a chrono phantasm extend now?! Is it ps3 or ps4? Didn't think they would still bother considering guilty gear just came out on ps4.

Is Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters supposed to be any good? This seems like it's going to be a pretty light year for VN's. 2014 was legit amazing with DR 1+2 and AA 5 plus Steins Gate.

here a user review for gaf:

While Mato Kurenai Yuugekitai: Tokyo Twilight Ghosthunters may not be the greatest game ever made, it is a great endeavor. While the blending of role playing and visual novel was done well, it feels like Arc Systems did not flesh either aspect out enough. The visual novel portions are mostly bare boned, and lack the depth of a true visual novel; and the role playing portions lack a unique battle system. However, while the game does lack certain elements of both genres, it still has enough extra content that caters to fans of both genres. Despite its flaws, Mato Kurenai Yuugekitai: Tokyo Twilight Ghosthunters is a well done game, and fans of both visual novels and role playing games can find some satisfaction in it. Occult genre fans, or fans of the movie Ghostbusters, should look into this game. And, if you are a role playing game fan who is looking to get into visual novels or visa versa, this is the game for you.

did you get a chance to play it? this is their best game , aside from resident evil 6 in 2012
Yeah, but an MMO could easily ruin the feel of the game. I'd be cool with co-op, but I cant help but feel like an MMO would have slowed down or wonky mechanics. Along with taking stuff like the awesome jump and grabbing mechanics out.

I'm holding my hype until I see footage or a demo. And if its an full on MMO, I'm passing regardless since FFXIV takes up enough of my time

So, i've been searching online for ages for a copy of Danganronpa 1 that's not overpriced as heck. What's wrong with this game? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Danganronpa 2 is cheaper than the original one at this point. Do you guys know a secret place that i don't know of that ships to canada? I don't care if it's used, as long as it's not overpriced.

I know what you mean. I finally caved and bought it new at gamestop for $30 last week. It's probably not getting any cheaper and that's not really a bad price. I followed pricing searches for a few weeks but not many places are selling it and the price is probably just going to go up. Before this I can't remember the last time I bought something new at Gamestop.

The purchase was definitely worth it, if that helps. It's really not bad buying used or new Vita games at gamestop since they don't have any inserts and the cases don't appear to get touched very often lol.

I was going to buy it this weekend, yet the price jumped back to $40... I watched the anime so didn't want to buy it. But after finishing Danganronpa 2, I realized that playing the game will give me completely different feeling even though I know the ending already.

Just finished Danganronpa 2, the game is soooooooooo good. It is on the top of my list along with P4G to be the best games for Vita.

I don't blame you. I open my LEs so I can play them, but every time I do I feel kinda bad that I'm ruining the collector's values of it. But I can't exactly afford to buy multiple copies of all the LE games, so yeah. :/
Haha yeah I can just imagine the looks people would give me when I opened a sealed copy of suikoden 2 a few years back.

And yeah outside maybe zestiria and persona 5 I don't plan on buying any more games until I get my backlog down to 25 games

I ended up getting it used from GameStop for $24.99 used (although it looks to have jumped back up). My decision was made easier considering I had the Kongregate $5 coupon that was expiring that day. I had to pick it up since I bought the second one from the sale and kept hearing to play the first before starting the second.

Damn, you're right. The price just went up on a number of those Vita JRPGs at Gamestop. That stinks. Ok back to boycotting Gamestop!

For people who are into collecting the nice books, I bought the Smash Brothers hardcover guide and the Farcry hardcover guide for $12.50 each +10% discount at GS on Sunday. It might be worth investigating at your own stores but I think its YMMV.

Strategy guides are 50% off through Sunday, I think. Wednesdays are also when Gamestop refreshes its weekly sales, and those Vita JRPGs had been on sale for a few weeks.

Just wanted to chime in, just started playing the english patched Tora Dora game on the PSP and it just so happens that the plot started for an upcoming new year as well! I found it quite coincidental but also perfect for my happy beginning with an awesome game and anime. Less than an hour left here on eastern coast till 2015. Wrote down my resolution for an ease of mind, but will probably use it as firework fodder later XD. Happy New Years' Eve fellow CAGs!!

Damn! I'm still playing Danganronpa. I picked up a new copy at Gamestop a week or so ago. I should have picked up the second one at the time too since it was also $29.99. Now it's up to $40. :(

Yeah, sorry about that tylerdurden10 and AugustAPC. I'm the lurker that took it earlier without thanking elessar123. I was trying to post when I claimed it, but I couldn't remember my password and the email associated with my old account to reset the password at all. I ended up creating a Twitter account to create another one because the security codes on CAG was impossible to get correctly...

So thank you elessar123 for the code and have a happy new year.

Nope, Tuesday (30th) was the last day for 50% off guides. My store reminded me because they wanted to get rid of their last couple of LE guides. Wanted the Far Cry 4 guide, but didn't really want to pay or use points for it.

I think this code is expiring today, so if anyone wants it:

Tales of Hearts costumes (Vita, PSN):
6N4A-5KNA-8GP9
whoa didn't realize that expired today.. though sometimes stuff doesn't expire on the date listed. WTF thats a very short time on a code, i hate when companies do that bullshit. At least this was a preorder bonus though and not DLC specifically stated that was included in the game. That really pisses me off when companies do that

anyway, i have 2 of those codes. I ordered two games though. Were you given 2 different DLCs for pre-ordering, or did i get one for each game? When i entered the top code it seemed to unlock 6 costumes. Is that all you get? Just wanted to check because if i got an extra i'll probably give it away. No point in entering the 2nd to find out its the same thing. Any other codes for niche games that came out the past several months that are expiring? I just checked hatsune miku and thats good for several more months

The codes don't usually expire on said date. Gamestop receipts usually default to certain dates, and they very often go beyond the date. Some by like a full year at times.

Check Amazon. Danganronpa 2 is selling for $28.99. Get it before they change the price too.

XSeed's domain registration might revel some new localization

Corpse Party: Blood Drive -Vita

Xanadu Next -PC

Trails of Cold Steel aka Sen no Kiseki!!!!

will wait for official confirmation. But will be excited for Corpse Party and Sen no Kiseki
well, i am not sure if the marketing guy over at xseed is teasing or being serious, but here is a convo he had recently with a poster

there could be sound truth to it.

ThePlayerOfGames : If all we're doing is hoping and guessing?
A Corpse Party collection for PS3/Vita or the HD versions of the Trails games.

Wyrdwad :Yeah, we've been a little too busy to tease, sadly. Not enough opportunity to upkeep our teasing.

I will say, though, PlayerOfGamers, that we've inquired about the possibility of doing the former of those two ideas, but sadly found that it was not feasible.

And the latter, we're still looking into.

My last Gamestop code expired on the day it said it would, so I don't know. Wasn't willing to risk it.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/01/01/a-holiday-thank-you/

Looks like Sony is going to give Playstation Plus users 5 extra days to their subscription to make up for the network issues that were happening on christmas. They're also going to give out a 10% of a purchase in your cart code. Hopefully they give these out soon, but all they say is "sometime this month".

That 10% code would be great to use on Atelier Ayesha Plus when it comes out this month.

A Corpse Party collection doesnt exist in Japan, so there is no way for Xseed to release that. On the other hand there is a Trail HD in Japan
