The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

Digital means you license the game. You can lose access if or rather when servers shutdown. Physical copies can be played, traded, sold so long as there is compatible functional hardware.

That is the closest one found so far for the final one and is believed to be the one:

unnamed.gif

Not to mention they registered the domain for it somewhat recently.

EDIT: Latest neogaf image of it:

wAB4txm.jpg

2015 Titles are (as a reminder):

- Brandish: The Dark Revenant (PSP/Vita/PS TV)

- Corpse Party (PC)

- Story of Seasons (3DS)

- Trails in the Sky SC (PSP/Vita/PC) [Don't know about PS TV]

And of course there are two other websites that were recently registered by XSeed, which are:

Xanadu Next (PC)

Trails of Cold Steel (Thought to be Sen no Kiseki) - I doubt this will be out this year, but one can always hope.
I'd be highly surprised if SC isn't vita tv compatible since Brandish is Vita Tv compatible

I like thinking I'll still be able to play my games in 10 years. I'm not confident I'll be able to do that with digital games.

Once Sony and Microsoft decide it's no longer profitable to support PSN/XBL for legacy consoles (like XBL support for the original Xbox), you won't be able to re-download digital games, and you may not even be able to play them if they require DRM checks against PSN/XBL (recall the 2008 MSN Music shutdown debacle, though I'm not sure MS ever went through with it).

Of course, at that point, even physical media won't let you re-download DLC/patches or play against your friends online.

Oh c'mon. Don't start this license pedantry. A license would imply that you can lose it or that the game has to phone home at least occasionally. You can say stupid shit about physical games too: if there's a fire, flood, or earthquake, if someone breaks into your house, if you throw a party and your guests nick your stuff, if you move apartments, if you misplace or break your stuff, you can say goodbye to your game too.

Same, but you never know. There are games that are PS TV compatible in Japan and not in NA. They may have announced it at some point as being compatible here, but I don't remember off the top of my head so I didn't list it just in case on the off chance that it actually isn't.

It doesn't even take that long. Certain licensing deals can mean things disappear from digital marketplaces. Off the top of my head: Marvel Ultimate Alliance's (2?) DLC, Marvel vs Capcom Origins AND 3/Ultimate (along with its DLC), Turtles in Time: Reshelled, and a lot of those early XBLA arcade ports like Smash TV and Joust.

But yeah, that's the main reason for me, along with physical games often bring cheaper anyway. I got no problem with buying something digitally if it's digital-only or on sale.

That's what insurance + scheduling is for, if it's valuable to you. The same thing could happen to your hard drive in a disaster once XBL/PSN support for those games are gone as well. The insurance would replace your physical drive, but you wouldn't be able to get the games back. Meanwhile replacement cost coverage on scheduled items like a video game collection are obligated to pay cost of replacing the collection..

Which, by the way would actually be possible since you'd still be able to buy physical copies from people.

My discs will rot eventually. You can't get around that (although Blu-Ray is supposedly much better about this, and probably cartridges as well) In that sense, if you can manage your own backups that don't need to phone home well enough it could actually last longer than physical media. I've just personally had more drives fail than physical media, I expect the disc rot to take longer than server support to last, and by supporting demand for physical media I'm helping my future self that may way to go back and buy something from this generation I missed, yet discovered post server shutdown.

Curious what those japanese games are and if they are english friendly or just fun in gameplay?
The Gundam game is very english friendly, a lot of people seem to import that one

Next one Extetra, no idea what that one is, never heard of it before.

Next one is just Senran Kagura: Bon Appetite. It's on our store

Lats one is dream club zero, never played that one either

Dang did you buy the CE of technika?
Unfortunately, I do not. :( It's a shame; I do like Technika's CE. I did get Technika for a great price though.

The Games do have guides, but Dream Club is text heavy, so you won't know whats going on.I would have more imports, but I'm just lazy.

From left to right:

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Battle Destiny, Exstetra, Senran Kagura Bon Appetit, Dream Club Zero Portable

Battle Destiny is very english friendly. If you're a fan of Gundam SEED, I definitely recommend the game. It's one of my personal favorites for the Vita.

Senran Kagura is just a rhythm game and its the complete edition (dlc included). I picked it up for a fairly cheap price at amiami.

Exstetra is an rpg but its fairly easy to pick up with a guide. You just won't understand the story, although you can probably guess what it is from the cutscenes and from the stuff that happens.

 I would love to have an IdolM@ster on the Vita. It just sounds so right. I would've bought IA/Colorful by now if it weren't delayed. ><

Yep, been learning dat japanese, though I'm no super expert. Having friends also help. Haha.

you must be happy about the idolmaster cinderalla animated series that is airing right now. LOL

The gundam game, what part of it is english friendly ? I tried looking for gameplay but see nothing /;
Don't need to know Japanese to play the game, unless you're interested in what they're talking about. The Game itself has a pretty good english guide on playstation trophies and gamefaqs. The menu has been translated online, so once you remember where to go, you're good to go.

Didn't we just get gundam breaker 2?
Yes, but a game in the Battle Series. Wouldn't mind playing a Gundam 00 Battle for example. And Gundam Breaker 2 is awesome!

I am. But I'm looking forward to a new game and such. LOL.

i am surprised they have been pumping out the animation, but not the actual game outside of japan

WTF do people really play this shit, damn I am shocked
I stopped being shocked because it was Japan.

The game we got is sorta old. Only if the US got the cinderalla mobile game. But since we somehow got the Love Live Mobile Game, there might be a chance, even if its slim at best.

They did released idolmaster games on iphone in English.  But since there is no way to play physical games on our phone none of us played it.

I get it when people complain that the Vita doesn't have that many games, but fuck this thread makes me remember just how much I like my Vita. Pretty sure the console is just great for a lot of us in this thread.

According to Neogaf, the Vita has about 350 upcoming games. Sure, people can say the Vita is dead. But to me, it is still alive and kicking.

I have had a vita for like a year and I have yet to really use it, I hacked mine use it to play emulators especially Neo-Geo, I just bought Gravity Rush and it seems fun
I can recommend Virtue's Last Reward and Danganronpa. After playing it, I know why people love VLR so much.

You're missing out man.. Don't forget about this gem

I never understood that. Hey here's cute anime girl that you have to rub, but we're gonna give you a frantic time limit so you can't actually pay attention to what you're rubbing!

I think many people bought it expecting more big western games like Killzone, but recently there hasn't really been many of those. Aside from these niche Japanese games, all we really get are indies. I'm happy with my Vita, but I guess that's sort of why some people say it's dead. The console seems to do really well though for companies like XSEED and NISA since they keep releasing things on it.

Yeah okay, it's like I thought, just a general rebellion against digital.

I was just wondering if it was something special with Danganronpa since ppl were willing to pay MSRP when there have been digital sales. Just wondered if there was something extra. Carry on.
Nah you just don't read the thread. Because it was discussed in depth a week ago for the 100th time.

I'm sure people know now that it's a niche console, I wish Sony would just give up and market it as that.

fuck's sake I think they marketed Minecraft for Vita than they did Freedom Wars

The reason people think Vita is dead is because the majority of the titles are digital-only. People that are collectors or people that wander into GS/BB are going to be very unhappy with the selection compared to people that buy digitally.

The Vita actually has tons of games. I went over the list last year and at the 2-year mark it was at 199 games released in NA, IIRC. That's about 50 more than the 3DS at its 2-year anniversary. IIRC PSP was about 230 or so, but that was for releases in general rather than NA specifically (I was using Wikipedia for research and the PSP game list doesn't break out release dates by country like the newer systems do.)

I know I'm being hypocritical, but when people call themselves "collectors", I keep bringing up the time when Kirito first said he was a "beater"... facepalm

You underestimate the power little kids have on parents with things like minecraft. Went to a party and all the kids ignored the bounce house and played minecraft on their iphones. The kid inside me felt sad inside.

I don't think they should be marketing it as a kids toy lol. They seemed to be pushing that and the pets game pretty hard last year.

Can't wait for the day a kid just wanders on the store and buys monster monpiece having no idea what it is.

Noice! But technically I think it's called "Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc" so it could also technically be slotted between Conception and the DJ Max game... >_> Still I applaud your attention to detail there. ^^

Oh but it's your collection so you can organize them however you want, obviously...

People say it's dead because the vast majority of video game players only play what's on a store shelf in physical form and the Vita has ALMOST ZERO shelf space at any retailer that isn't GameStop, and that's just one small shelf, even though it has every cart release available.

Making Minecraft & MLB The Show download vouchers only instead of a physical cart will end up being the nail in the coffin for Vita in terms of the mass market. It will now only be a digital-only indie port/JRPG haven while the vast majority of the gaming audience will treat it as dead.

Is Guilty Gear for PS4 completely OoP? Every retailer other than Amazon is OoS and only random low volume GS locations still have it available physically.

I don't even know why people keep asking for games like killzone and Assassin's creed for vita. Those games came out for vita and no one bought them because they would rather play the console counterparts. The games coming out now like Danganronpa, Freedom Wars, Tales of Hearts are much better and they play much better on the vita.

What's ironic to me is that Killzone Mercenary is arguably the best in the series (I was too bored to finish the KZ3 demo, yet I really enjoy KZM), yet all of the Killzone buzz goes to the console versions.

GoG is having a weeklong sale on JRPGs - Trails In The Sky is $13.99, Agarest : Generations of War is $3.74, and Pier Solar is $7.49.

I noticed that too. Every version has been sold out at Best Buy for a while so I'm glad I preordered my LE PS4 copy there. I think the Aksys store still has it in stock though, and probably will for a while since no one seems to shop there.

Ionno mercenary was kinda boring all things considered, too few enemies and too small of shooting areas

I actually liked the Resistance: Burning Skies campaign more than KZ:M's. Though that's not a surprise since KZ:M's campaign was tacked on at the last minute.

KZ:M is definitely the better game from a technical standpoint, though.

I finally got around to picking up CoD: Declassified though have not yet played it.
