The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

From what I understand, the reason the OP wasn't being edited was some sort of forum database error that couldn't be fixed. Wikifying it may not help.

Well that's easy, create a new thread and close this one.

I just got Ar Tonelico Qoga in the mail, and I have a question for those of you who already own the game. It says that it's supposed to come with an OST, but inside the box all I found was the game inside the game case and the artbook, with separate CD for the OST. Is the OST contained on the game disc or something?

what do you mean a separate CD for the OST? The OST is just in a paper sleeve. It's not on the game disc. Some copies of the Premium Box didn't have the OST in it so NISA allowed people to submit a form to get another copy mailed to them from Sony but from what it looks like, you have the OST...

I'm assuming you mean there was no separate CD. If my memory is correct, NIS sent a notice that there was a packing error and some copies didn't get the CD. There's a link somewhere on CAG for where to submit a form to get the OST.
For how hard it is to find trinity universe and the prices that it goes for, (that I've noticed,) Gamestop just dropped the price down to $29.99 new and $24.99 used. Just checked and there's copies next to me...enough of a deal for me :)

http://www.gamestop.com/ps3/games/trinity-universe/77696
Well, rumor is that there was a reprint. But thanks for the news, now I can try to find a sealed copy for less than $70 finally.

Hi everyone,

In order to update the front page and avoid the database error, I need to eliminate as many lines as possible from the single post. So, what I did is start over and focus on new games rather than used, also not put any older games specifically PS2 games on the first post to limit the number of lines being used. But after I cut a lot of the games out of the list, I was able to save again with no database error.

If you see anything, please post and I'll follow up with the updates. Thanks again!

Btw, for those who are into import games, I just want to plug the following USED games from Japan on sale right now (manual, cover, inserts and games are in very good condition) [I tried these imports on a US PSP-1000, 3000 and DS, DS Lite and DSiXL and they work fine. Ordered from Japan a few days after the earthquake and still got it within 8-12 days):

Bleach: Heat the Soul 5 - $22.99 + $4 shipping - eBay (I usually buy the even number of the series for the Bleach fighters but for the price #5 is right now, that's pretty good as I'm used to spending $45 for them. The good news is that if you are purchasing the Viz DVD anime box sets, then this game is right where the DVD releases are right now in storyline. Also, you get more characters than the 4th game inc. adult Nell).

EyeShield 21 (DS) -$14.60 + $4 shipping - ebay (For those who love the anime series, of the various games avail. for this series, the DS version is the one to get and easy for non-Japanese).

Gundam Battle Universe - (PSP) - $16.99 + $4 shipping - eBay (If you are a Gundam fan, this game is pretty awesome for the PSP)

Hokuto no ken Raou Gaiden: Ten no Haoh - (PSP) $15.99 +$4 shipping - eBay (I enjoyed the Raoh Fist of the North Star series but liked the fact that Kenshiro is a secret character in this PSP fighter).

Jump Superstars - (DS) - $22.99 + $4 Shipping - Make offer/eBay (The first game!!! Awesome game!!! Play Naruto, Goku of "Dragon Ball Z", Luffy of "One Piece" JoJo's Bizarre Adventures and other "Shonen Jump" characters!)

Katekyo Hitman Reborn Battle Arena (PSP) - $24.99 + $4 shipping - ebay (If you love the anime series, you'll love this fighting game).

Love Plus (DS)- $22.99 + $4 shipping - eBay (The very popular dating sim game and there are translations and guides online you can find. Awesome game!).

Macross Ace Frontier (PSP) - $17.99 + $4 shipping - eBay (The opportunity to play various Macross mechs from the difft. anime series is awesome!)

Nodame Cantabile (DS) - $21.99 + $4 shipping - eBay (Fans of the anime series may enjoy this rhythm based game (classic music) which also incorporates a few Taikou no Tatsujin games and mini-games as well).

Ouendan 2 - $23.00 + $4 shipping - eBay/Make Offer (The 2nd Ouendan game which is as a great as the first!!)

Shonen Sunday vs. Shonen Magazine - $18.99 + $4 shipping - eBay (A very rare occasion in which two rival manga publications teamed up for their 50th anniversary and you have a Konami fighter with 30 players and over 100 support players feat. characters from manga series within the last 50 years. Just don't expect anything major like SF, Tekken, GG or BlazBlue but the fact that you can play InuYasha vs. Ban of Getbackers or Tiger Mask vs. the robot of Cromartie High or Devilman vs. Cyborg 009...insane!)

Super Robot Wars Taisen K - $20.99 + $4 shipping - eBay (if you are familiar with the game, you know what to expect. A lot of dialogue but there are guides online).

I assume you mean Trauma Team (your link goes to it)? I picked it up for $5.06 in Target clearance a month or so ago, but yeah, I think $12.63 is the lowest I've seen on it for a regular, non-clearance price.

Yeah, I mean "Trauma Team", thanks. Wow! $5.06!!! I need to stop by Target and see if it's still on clearance! Last I checked several weeks ago, it was still at $19.98 at my local store. At that price, probably gone by now.

I believe that was an online return price. If it's MSRP was 39.99, it shouldn't go more than 9.xx in the standard clearance cycle.

It was one of those weird ones like Ghostbusters, where they sold out at the higher clearance price and then suddenly had a bunch of copies again at the $5.06 price. The difference was that the Ghostbusters price tag said "Online Item" (whatever that means -- they had a pile of copies in every store, these definitely weren't online returns), while the price tag on Trauma Team said "Clearance". Of course, that could mean anything (right down to the possibility that the tag could have simply been wrong).

Good luck, kndy -- they sold out several weeks ago around here, but maybe you'll get lucky where you are. Worth a shot, anyway.
I'm inetrested in the eyeshield 21 game, but could you give me some more info about it? Is it just a straight up football game, or an RPG of some kind?
Greetings,

The DS version is the best version of "Eyeshield" for the portable systems (I don't have the Wii or the PS2 version, so can't comment). You play the main team, the Deimon High School Devil Bats, you click on a circle of where your player will go to, so you get to play football.

Check this YouTube URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAbDKXfLi7I

It's not like Madden or Tecmo Bowl where you actually play football in that sense. But if you love the anime series, you'll dig the DS game.

If you are interested in the PSP of "Eyeshield 21", it's training mini-games. You don't play any football like the DS game at all but you control other players and manage them by playing mini-games to build their stats and when you do play the game, it goes with the storyline of the manga/anime series but even when you control the players during a game, they are mini-games. And the GBA game is RPG-based.

I got it for $5.06 as well and it had a standard clearance sticker (not the online return one). The store also had about 4 more copies but that was over a month ago.
I didn't see the title on the front page, and it goes for $30-$35 on Amazon, so I thought I'd mention this:

Thanks Kazaganthi, added this and a few more titles to the front page.

dude.. you ROCK. Thats a lot of cool finds. I got Shonen Sunday vs. Shonen Magazine.. that just sounds awesome! I hope it arrives in great condition. I hate buying used psp games used, but i ciouldn't really find new copies other than some hong kong seller which im always leery of.

how did you find all these? I wasn't even aware of some of these games. Im eyeballin jump superstars as well. I think theres some bleach ps3 game thats basically like dynasty warriors but i cant remember what its called.. any idea its name and if its region free? I may hunt that down

also seriously considering Super Robot Wars Taisen K.. the only problem is thats an RPG, i dont see how that would work very well o_O

Out of curiosity were they all in really good condition? Particularly the psp ones you got. Those get screwed up easily. I hate it when the umd shell is all scratched up

Hey...well, let's just say that once you discover what is available in Japan for portable gaming (DS and PSP), you're going to have a lot of fun as there are plenty of games out there. It's all about figuring out games that are accessible and user-friendly and for the most part, the games I selected are user-friendly and doesn't require you to be fluent in Japanese to enjoy the game.

First, "Shonen Sunday vs. Shonen Magazine". Man, It's a fun game and it is a rare collaboration that was only created because the two rival manga magazines were created on the same day and both were celebrating their 50th anniversary. So, it was an unprecedented move in video gaming in Japan. it's one of those games with characters that you will probably never ever see in a video game again.

The main thing to remember is that if you start off with arcade mode (fighting), you can play right off the bat to open up characters. But it' s the Quest Mode that unlocks more support characters and most importantly, the ultimate special moves which enhances the game.

I mention this to you now because a lot of people didn't know this when the game came out and just started playing arcade mode and thought it was a game with not many movesets.

As for Jump Superstars and Jump Ultra Stars, the game is very fun and it has so many characters and support characters from the Shonen Jump manga. With each stage, there is a goal. I.e. break all barriers, make sure your opponent dies by falling out, do not use a special move just standard hits, etc. And you move on...and there are several worlds to beat. But there are translations and guides online. But you can find these games cheap.

As for your "Bleach" question, unfortunately the only games you will find that are region-free are the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS games. Not sure about a Bleach with Dynasty Warriors gameplay but the DS games are popular because they are created by Treasure and are good games. But the PSP games...the Heat the Soul series are fighting games. The "Soul Carnival" games are side-scrolling fighters and the characters are super-deformed (Small).

As for "Super Robot Taisen K", they are popular games for mecha fans but I recommend at least trying the games that have been released in the US first, to get an idea if you like them and how gameplay is. It may be a bit complicated at first.

As for used games in Japan, I'm going to tell you the truth that from ordering from Japan (from the stores I gave you links to) and also going to Japan to buy used games, they are always in good condition and nothing like buying games from Gamestop. They always came with the manual, covers, and even extra inserts. Also, they list them as if they have manuals and covers, etc.

But the eBay stores like Japan-Export2008, dora_ts17 and made-in-tomo are the primary three I will buy from in Japan. You can communicate in English esp. with Japan-Export2008 (my favorite to buy from) and if you have a concern, just ask and they'll get back to you.

Hope this helps!

Hmm...Going through prices right now to see if there are any drops. Just noticed that "Golden Sun" for the DS is now $19.99 on Amazon and Sengoku Basara for the PS3 is $22.49. Noticed Atelier Annie also dropped again back under $20...wonder if it will go back to $15.99 again.

UPDATE: Looking at camelcamelcamel.com, Golden Sun went down several days ago from $34.99 to $19.99, so that's a pretty major drop and it's the first time it's dropped that low. Looks like Gamestop also dropped their price. As for "Sengoku Basara", it was $21.84 on March 30th.

The only thing I see for Newegg in terms of price drops is River King: Mystic Valley for the Nintendo DS for $10.99.

Also, it looks like Newegg lowered their price for Ys The Oath in Felghana Premium Edition to match with Amazon:

But the big thing for Atlus fans is this....4.18 on Amazon:

I was just about to post that 4.18 thing to ask;
What does it mean? a super sale on those items?

Gold Box deals on all of them probably. Kenka Bancho is already $19.99 at Gamestop, but I'll gladly pass on shopping with them and get it from Amazon. Also, no matter what discounted price it'll be, I'll finally pick up Radiant Historia.

I'm really hoping for a deal on Class of Heroes but I'm not gonna hold my breath because it's probably out of print already. :(

Deal of the Day for April 18th on Amazon. Pricing information for Atlus and an NIS America game:

3D Dot Heroes - $13.40
Demon's Souls with Soundtrack - $15.00
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness - $15.99
Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble - $27.99
Knights in the Nightmare (comes with Ygddra Union PSN Network download) - $11.22
Naruto Shippuden: Dragon Blade Chronicles - $15.87, with figure - $25.19
Naruto Shippuden: Naruto vs. Sasuke - $14.55
Phantom Brave: Heroes of the Hermuda Triangle - $14.99
Radiant Historia (no soundtrack) - $27.99
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 - $19.99
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES - $17.99
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable - $27.99
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey (no soundtrack?) - $22.99
Trauma Team - $12.31

I was hoping for more price drops for "Sengoku Basara" to $21.99 like it did once on March 30th but it went back up to $38.73.
I picked up Sakura Wars Premium for the PS2 at Gamestop today for $20 new.
I've been waiting for that to drop. I'm going to go pick that up today then. Did you get a sealed copy or was it just the floor copy.
