THERE IS NO COUPON! For the 100th time, there are ZERO coupons for January and February. PERIOD.

As for whether you will get 50% off TW2, I will let Josh clarify that. The 50% off deal works only on $59.99 games, but I don't know if that's $59.99 in the system or if it applies to $59.99 titles on sale. Josh hasn't said anything either way.

What are you talking about? I do this out of the goodness of my heart, just like everyone else does (confoosius, jer, etc). However, this really is not the place. If you're that interested, PM me.

I really don't think it's that hard to spell my name right ;).
So did Josh ask you to be a CSR or are you doing this on your own accord, Atlantis?
I don't know why he bothers trying to educate the morons. Either ignore them or give them false information like I do.
cool, just so we dont have a million questions asked abuot this, would this work out? i buy lbp 2 of mass effect AND buy two worlds, would i still get 50% off two worlds AND the $20 dollar coupon? since the 50% off is activated for 4 weeks? just wondering

p.s. also will killzone 3 be getting any discounts at all?
That would DEFINITELY work, although I'm pretty sure Two Worlds comes with a coupon too, so you'd get two coupons!

ok ready to feel alittle slow? lol josh just stated about a page back that two worlds II will have a $20 coupon attached to it ;)..

update 1: ahh fuck me i read it wrong lol i thought i saw $20 coupon not $20 off guess that also answers my 50% off question.. nothing to see here folks move along....

I still have the tiniest amount of hope that maybe, just maybe, we can actually educate the morons.
If I read this correctly, next week I could get ME2 for $45, Dead Space 2 for $30 then a $20 PSN card for buying Dead Space 2 with the SYWR deal? Or can you only do one or the other?
Wow. Let's just say that you did not read that correctly. The sale on ME2 (1/30) starts after the DS2 card promo (1/29), so they cannot be combined.
$20 off starting 1-30. It will not featured in the blog or ad due to publisher restrictions. Pricing will be automated though.
Wanna try that one again?

Heh, I see that you fixed yourself while I was quoting your post. My bad for going through and finding and quoting Josh's post; it slowed me down.
What the what! Epic Mickey for 20 bones this week. Cool!
When you spend $50 on DKC:R, you can get Epic Mickey for $20.

It's not a direct sale on the game down to $20.

The OP says off a $59.99 title. If a game is on SALE, it isn't $59.99.

Frickin retards.

buy me2 and get 1/2 off on a second game

Are you located in NYC? Those stores don't participate in the circular's sales.

Also, apparently there's a problem in the system (according to Josh) that for some reason is stopping it from working if you are buying LBP2 and ME2 together.

So was there no offer on Venetica... or Lost In Shadow?

Does it always have to be a super hyped AAA title to receive an offer/incentive to buy?

I wouldn't exactly call Two Worlds II a hyped title but it's still getting a deal. K-Mart doesn't even carry a lot of the niche titles though. There are probably very few people that are even aware of Venetica being released due to no marketing so you can't expect Josh to take a chance on something that is probably going to sit and rot.

Eh... There is a certain amount of hype surrounding Two Worlds II, since it was supposed to be a Oblivion killer the first time around, and a lot more people know about it now. Even if they are skeptical.

As far as niche goes, I've picked up Nier, X-Blades, heck even Persona 3 from Kmart. I've also noticed they're selling Plants and Zombies. Idk why they take a chance on some but not others, when it comes to games obviously not targeting mainstream interest.

FWIW, I tried to get Little Big Planet 2 CE with Mass Effect 2 today and it didn't work after hitting total. CSR said the screen showed BOGO for both games but she didn't know about the deal.

I told her about kmartgamer.com and showed her the Web site's promo at the top of the circular, but since she didn't know exactly what the deal was she couldn't help me. She was very nice and said I could come back with a printout from the Web site. I thought about going up to customer service to see if the store had access to the Internets, but I didn't try.

This isn't a complaint, really, just an update on my experience. I could have been more prepared (I know several people have mentioned going to the store with blog printouts), but I was going to Kmart to look for clearance Lego. Seeing the CE got me excited, but not having it ring up B1G1 50% off gave me an excuse to not spend money I shouldn't be spending.

tl/dr: Deal didn't ring up right with LBP and ME2 for me today; you winners with girlfriends can resume calling each other retards.

is there anyway CAG forum software can have a post 'stickied' to the top of every page? obviously, it would not only need to be able to be done, but done just for this thread. but if so, a FAQ could be put there that answers all the current weeks stupid questions.

As another option, some posters could put the FAQ in their Sig, lol. 'The deal for ME2 for $45 does NOT overlap with DS2' etc.

If you have 100 dollars to use on promotions and you can use it on Call of Duty, Donkey Kong, Halo Reach, and Gran Turismo 5, or venetica which is going to get the money?

Answer: The ones that people give a shit about or will actually buy, which is neither venetica or lost in shadow. Venetica looks positively awful.

Actually, i'm sure that money comes from the publishers trying to generate interest and sell stuff quicker. So he can blame Atari for not wanting to invest in it.

Some of it probably is deals made with publishers but a lot of it is kmart's own budget for discounts and deals.

Deals with publishers are more common after release, giving a discount/refund type of thing for stock kept on hand in order to help the retailer want to continue to buy future product.

If kmart bought 100k Game A's at $45 apeice and there's still 40K units sitting on shelves maybe they can give a rebate of $7 per unit off their order of Game B and kmart uses that savings to discount Game A and move that product off the shelves to make room for the next release.

That's my (uninformed) understanding at a basic level of what josh or most retailers do to make deals.

Why when you could just ask Atlas

Agreed. If it's as bad as it is already, adding the FAQ to our sigs won't do anything.

As for whether the forum software is capable of stickying a specific post to every page, it would be daunting at best- there are many ways to view this forum, and it really seems like this is one of only a few threads where such a feature would be "needed."

Only Gamestop and Amazon carry Venetica for retailers. The game was decent. No autosave feature though so if you dont manually save you could end up in trouble.

Not really sure what you mean by 100 dollars to use on promotions (I have no understanding of how their system works), but as far as I can tell from what the OP says, there's basically nothing going on for January... Could have did something for this month, Venetica, Lost in Shadow, Mindjack... maybe not big name tittles, but I'm sure the people who take advantage of these offers would mostly bite. This is a pretty well informed community, so we're aware of pretty much anything that's being released.
Actually, i'm sure that money comes from the publishers trying to generate interest and sell stuff quicker. So he can blame Atari for not wanting to invest in it.
Since when is Atari so bankrupt they can't afford to promote the games they publish enough for people to know they exist?

January is also the end of the fiscal year for Kmart. The last month of the year for most retailers is often boring simply because few sales get approved, due to companies hoping to finalize their bottom line without destroying themselves.

However, I wouldn't call promotions on what are the three largest releases this month (LBP2, ME2, DS2) and also a $12 off sale on a DS game that is brand new and a $20 sale on another brand new game "nothing happening" this month.

Simply put: The promos that Kmart have this month are kick-ass, on games they KNOW will sell. The company cannot afford to have $15-20 deals on every single release. It's not profitable most of the time. The three games you listed- Venetica, Lost in Shadow, and Mindjack aren't games most people would care about. In fact, as pointed out above, Venetica isn't carried by most companies. It also doesn't help that Venetica and Lost in Shadow have pretty crappy reviews so far. Kmart can't afford to buy thousands of the games and just have them rot on the shelves or in the case until either they clearance them out or some poor sap buys them.

Kmart isn't a specialty games retailer either. Im pretty surprised they carry some of the stuff they do sometimes.

Venetica and Mindjack will be $20 by august anyway. just wait.

I can say for certain they've done promotions on games last year that were slammed by the critics. People still bought them, I remember how frantic people on here were about getting in on every offer, even the "crappy" ones. So I'm not sure they've ever really lost on any of their offers. They really can't afford it? Every Kmart I've ever been to has a slew of older titles they've reduced and are trying to get rid of... and they're mostly titles that had no promotions, or were released before Kmart started doing them.

Oh well, I look at these titles as the general public's loss, GS will reduce them significantly in price after being nothing short of ignored for a few months straight, then I'll get em' at a reduced price. Just have to wait.

Surely they won't be that long... and yeah, I like that about Kmart, that they at least acknowledge the consumer demand for obscure titles and not just Call of Duty and Imagine: Princess blah, blah, blah.

i only mention it because some forum software does this automatically. it's not uncommon for the OP to be stickied for this very reason.

but i do think having a easily visible, ever-changing FAQ (the most popular questions of the week, since they change with each deal) would help some.

Umm actually, Atari's simply an Infogrames subsidiary, and it's my understanding that Infogrames isn't exactly setting the world on fire, and Atari is in a similar situation. Heck, Infogrames lost like $315 million in 2009.

I wouldn't be surprised if Atari couldn't afford to put millions into marketing their products.
Since when is Atari so bankrupt they can't afford to promote the games they publish enough for people to know they exist?
You don't have to be bankrupt to know you're appealing to a more niche market than, as mentioned, Black Ops or Halo. People in niche markets are easier to sell to, so they don't really need to discount things as heavily as AAA titles that are trying to compete and sell as much as possible within release week. The only way I could see it discounted is if either it ends up selling enough copies, or they just want to forget the whole ordeal.

Point taken. I can't remember the last time I saw Infogrames on the cover a game... Driver 2? Speaking of Driver, I believe that's an Atari published franchise these days, with a release coming up this year... and to my understanding the Driver series is, or was pretty high profile. I wonder if anyone will know about it the day it's released?

So is basically everything besides FPS considered "niche" these days? Jeez. People have lame taste, imho.

The reality is that what Atari makes for the most part doesn't sell well. It's not a niche title because it's not an FPS. It's a niche title because the odds that Kmart will move stock are slim to none.

Unfortunately, when sales look like they do, FPSes dominate a lot of the deals:

Game didn't do too well originally, it doesn't appeal to everyone, and it's only being sold at few retailers. Niche isn't some amazing way to describe it, it just means there's a 'specific' market and it's not meant for everyone.

It was a little suprising to me, but some of the risks we took last year on titles that were a bit more specialty (i.e. Gamestop titles :) ) that we discounted immediately at launch did not perform well. It's definitely not that we can't afford the offer, what get's expensive is the mark down that you have to take to clear out of the inventory. I would love to build a plan for every title (once Kmartgamer.com is fully fledged maybe this will be possible) but from an instore perspective we have to pick our battles a little more conservatively.
