Kotaku DSlite contest

Way to ruin everyone else's chance of winning!

Just kidding. I entered a while ago. Good luck to everyone and don't forget to enter every week.
alright i got it.
You bastard. Anyone ever seen the episode of The Simpsons where Milhouse was showing off a brainteaser on the back of his Lunchable? And how everyone in the world figured it out in a second except Lisa? Whenever these goddamn things come around, I always feel like Lisa.... =(

Alright, I know it has something to do with May....but how the fuck is May the answer to this: nrytt xrfwy ktwdt zuzsd ptyfp znyjx

Me too. I've fiddled around with a few things but nothing so far. Trying to get May and Caesar into the mix isn't helping either.

If you know a little bit about ciphers, it is much easier to guess the answer then decode to see if it works. If it doesn't, guess something else. It is what I did since I was far to lazy to find the clue.

And you can only enter once a week, waitinthefire.
Why not give out the answer?

People are greedy sometimes.
A: They figured it out themselves.

B: You'd say the same thing if you were in their shoes.

Hell, this has both me and my girlfriend stumped, and I still don't want anyone to just tell me what the answer is.

Same here... I just don't get it.:whistle2:( Oh well, better luck next week hopefully.

i dont really get it also. it says "One hint: the Key to the code can be found in Eliza's first post on Kotaku."

this is the code: nrytt xrfwy ktwdt zuzsd ptyfp znyjx

this is her post:
"Contrite, huh? It loses some of its sweetness when you read Lorenzen's braying quotes from last year, plucked from Google's cache and reproduced after the jump."

i just cant figure it out. i was trying to unscramble it but theres not much vowels.
fyi, "may" and "caesar" are not part of the actual answer. you have to use them to break the code.
This is all you need, for anyone still stuck.

If anyone gives more than the hints already in this thread I will email kotaku and tell them the answer is out...I spent a while figuring it out and I don't want a bunch of cheaters ruining my well deserved chance at the DS Lite.

Sorry to be a narc-prick, but them's the breaks.

So you'll tell them and then...? All that will happen is there will be more people with a chance to win a contest which mathematically you have a small as hell chance to win anyways. No need to be a whiny bitch about it, I'm sure it's already been leaked in other places.

And no, I'm not saying this because I can't figure it out. Sometimes people just think they're too smart.

Dude I don't care how small my chances are or how much smaller my chances will get by the answer being all over the place...if I see people cheating on a test I'm taking or cutting into the front of a long line, I have the balls and the confidence to stand up for the people getting screwed. I'll do it in any situation, small or large, because there are some principles always worth fighting for.

It has nothing to do with being too smart, but the next time you try to condescend to someone do it to their face.

If you know what the blue hell he's referring to, then it's not so tough. The final message is pretty incoherent anyway.

Haha this dude above me has some problems. I'm mostly tempted to give the answer now. Anyone want it?

i think the people that are trying to figure this out are putting too much into the confusing clues. Some people above have pretty much handed it to you guys on a silver platter it really isnt all that difficult to get. Just read the extra clues given in this thread you will be fine.

Too late. a few hours after the puzzle was posted on Kotaku, some lame commenter over at Gizmodo gave the answer away in the first comment.

Well, that's how things work anyways.

I think I finally figured out how to crack it, but I'm too lazy to translate the whole code. Though I wouldn't have even gotten this far if not for the hints on this forum. Those kotaku clues are real obscure.

Ok I believe I am using the right decoder to decode it but I'm still getting a jumble of letters.

EDIT: Nvm I got it, do we send it how it is or arrange it into a sentence?

Yeah, I was wondering that too so I did both in the e-mail.

Anyway, a couple small hints for people trying to figure it out. First of all, that person's (Eliza's) first post is not a decypher key or anything like that. But it has one of two parts needed for the solution. Also, 'May' is completely irrelevant when decyphering the code.

it really wasn't that hard to figure out.. when do they announce the winner?

The caesar part didn't fit in with the rest of the stuff to me, but when I realized it was an encrypted code, and a cipher would be necessary, I searched wikipedia for ciphers...a very common and simple one referred to repeatedly was the caesar cipher, and when I saw that I knew I could figure it out.

I enjoyed the challenge while it lasted, but hope the next one is much harder.
