------------------------------------------------------------------------
LucasArts has teamed up with Traveller's Tales and Giant (the game's original developer and producer) to create this year's sequel, LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, due on PS2, Xbox, GameCube, GBA, PSP, PC and DS this fall. We spoke with David Perkinson, a fairly new hire at LucasArts, though not new to the industry, as he's worked on Gretzky NHL (PSP), Gretzky NHL '05 (PS2), and Gretzky NHL '06 (PSP and PS2). Perkinson explained how LucasArts plans to add new functionality, more Force powers, and a more robust custom character building feature. They're also aiming to tap into the original movie's best scenes, and make it work on even more systems.

I dont know about you guys but I'm F'ing stoked. I loved the first one. Too bad no X360 port though. The DS will feature 4 player single cart mode the others will have 2 player co-op like the original.

EDIT: I finally had time to read the whole thing and this is damn cool:

IGN: In the first game, you could play as approximately 50 characters. How will this sequel be different and better in this respect?

David Perkinson: LEGO Star Wars II will feature more than 50 playable characters from all of the classic Original Trilogy movies, and many of the characters will have distinctive weapons, signature animations and melee attacks.

In addition, players will be able to import their saved game data from LEGO Star Wars I and use all the characters that were unlocked from the first game on many of the platforms. That brings the total number of playable Star Wars characters to over 100!

On the 3rd pic we see Chewie ripping off the arms off a Storm Trooper

Took them long enough to announce it, everyone figured this was coming sooner or later :D

Can't wait until I can score it for $20 like the original, unless they somehow make this one more complex (i.e not dumbed down).

I heard the rumor about this a while back about the teaser poster floating around on the net, which made me happy. The details of improvements makes me happy. I barely played the first, but loved it. I'll probably buythe first when they release this one, so I can play them both back to back (the unlockables help!).
The whole, "create your own character" and bring your unlocked characters from the original option alone sounds awesome.
yeah I know, now I can create my lego versions of those characthers from Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic & the clone war characthers like Ventress, Druge that never appeared in the movies.

Damn, I really wanted this on for the Cube so I could still play it on the Revolution. I bought the PS2 version of the first one before they ever announced the Cube version - so I wouldn't be able to use the old unlocked characters, which sucks.

After Revolution comes out, the PS2 will probably go to the basement.

Too bad I beat the first on my pc and am phasing out my pc games in favor of cube/revo stuff. Now do I pick up a cheap copy for cube and play through it again to unlock everything, or do I bite the bullet and buy the pc copy of the new one?

I'm loving Chewie ripping arms out of sockets. That alone makes this the coolest Star Wars game ever. ;)

I hope they go nuts with the unlockable playable characters. That was my favorite part of the first game, and actually made me have more affection for the films. The ability to play as all the different jedi was sweet beyond words, especially since some of them had different fighting styles.

Not sure if you read the articles but it states that there will be over 100 characters. If you own the original game you will automatically unlock those with your save on the 2nd game. Also with the additon of character customization, the count is endless. Cant wait to put Chewie's head on Darth Vader, Yoda's head on C3P0 and so on....

i beat all of episode 2 and 3 from the first SW: Legos but never beat Episode 1 :O

I will pick this up IF there is a midnight opening for the sale of SW:the original trilogy in Sept.
