Exactly this. Nintendo does much the same by enforcing strict MSRP rules with retailers. It's taught consumers that Nintendo games don't routinely go on sale or get big discounts so more of them buy at launch. LRG would be wise to sit on or frankly, even just destroy excess inventory since selling it at steep discounts could risk tanking its entire business model.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm less likely to buy stuff I physically see in a store. You have enough time while wandering around to talk yourself out of an impulse buy (plus you can better see the quality / size of what you're buying).

Oh, when I say "wise," I mean strictly from a business perspective. It would be a scummy practice, without question. That said, let's face it, the collector/enthusiast business is all propped up through false scarcity, speculation, and FOMO. This is why folks should just buy what they want to play, but that's a whole other issue entirely :)
 
Basically trading card and comic BS muscling its way into the gaming market over the past decade, and Covid made it skyrocket. Or as simple as gaming becoming more prominent and accepted in the west, well past accepted when it’s bigger than all other forms of media combined for awhile now, if LRG didn’t do it, someone else would.

I wrote a while ago a email to them because MK8 with DLC is for ages now "on backorder" and "The next batch of stock will arrive ETA 28 October 2024.". I asked them if they could please update that information.

I also never got an response to my mail.

The greatest gift LRG gave me was early on releasing so much questionable stuff that I realized the idea of collecting was bad. I have always been more about buying what I want to play and my tastes were quite wide for much of my gaming history. But with Vita (and Dreamcast) so much of the core library hit with what I like to play that it became easy to just opt in to collecting pretty much everything because there wasn't that much to collect. LRG broke that. I'm not chasing limited fomo bs let alone a lot of games I really have little interest in playing. But really, even going for a full retail set of Vita games lost it's luster quickly.

So, pretty much since the early days of LRG I have been focusing on what I want to play... and even there, cutting back to what I realistically can make time to play and then further back to games that I think I will be most excited to play. There's so much good stuff out there, but time is not on my side to really enjoy everything so better to find what brings the most enjoyment and focus on it while still looking for new experiences that tick a lot of boxes. Oh and it also made me realize Digital is not all that bad in some cases. Some games I do want physical but often the digital option getting cheap is not so bad.
 
Are there that big of Croc fans out there for that?

Also, Yakuza 3 on its own for PS4 for $35+shipping, when The Yakuza Collection is less than $22 at VGP. (I know there's no Xbox physical before this, but SEGA could've done the same here). Stay classy LRG...and SEGA for that matter...

Feels more like cranking out whatever they can cheaply get versus getting better stuff. And so much for "less premium edition plastic garbage" huh?
 
After there less than stellar Tomba release (got because was a fan of the original), these type of releases have been relegated to bundle fodder or very, very cheap prices. Croc if I remember correctly had bad controls back then. No nostalgia from me for Croc though Gex I had good memories of 1 and 2.
 
That Yakuza 3 cover art originally had a cigarette in Kiryu's mouth. Also, that Shin Chan collector's edition includes a cheap flexi disc, what value! I guess it's not limited runs fault, the Asian/Japanese version also included that cheap flexi disc. Flexi discs have poor sound quality, they were usually used as promos and giveaways, I have some that came in Decibel magazine. They shouldn't be in expensive collector's editions.

And you spend your time trolling and getting revenge on some random average internet user because they made one comment directed at you.

The fact it happened over a period of time in different incidents means it had to be just sitting there bubbling under the surface, living rent free as people say, bugging Josh.

That poster may have lost out on some of their games, but that level of ongoing, petty vindictiveness coming from someone who has so much going for them? That’s the real person losing out.

Maybe that story is made up, but it’s absolutely believable given everything else I’ve read or heard on the guy.

Also, L-O-fucking-L at this time period in which he was so publicly saying they had absolutely no way to cancel orders and yet he’s in there cancelling orders personally just out of spite.
 
Being a business owner requires a certain headspace that is conducive to quickly finding those in society who want the smallest crumb of power.

The only difference between some small business owners and big CEO types is their reach and influence only; Josh strikes me as much as a corpo type as any major CEO who has a public persona...

Not saying there aren't chill small business owners, but they are less likely to be seen, let alone heard.

Edit: LRG good news story. One of the dudes who does retail store runs and ships to folks finally graduated from his school. He used the proceeds from shipping people games at retail pricing (plus a service fee) to pay off his schooling and get himself a new vehicle.

So LRG's inability to support online orders at least got one person their degree. Kudos to that guy!

See that's my thing. People in that Reddit post are the ones who buy all sorts of things from LRG. Then go around telling everyone else to not support them. instead of heeding their own advice. You always have customers complaining about lrg operations, and they are the only ones spending lots of money there. Supporting THIS publisher. the loudest mouths are the ones buying the most. They're on a whole flipping subreddit dedicated entirely to LRG. How about you go support one of the many good publishers out there instead? which are actually putting out great games for $30 or $50 ??

This is no different from crypto or anything else. Attempting to create monetary value out of absolutely nothing. I won't buy or invest in things I don't believe in. Look at how much stock they hold back; why help them grow their own fake asset-investments? You have no idea how many copies are left sitting around; they can print as much as they want. Nothing is limited. If you are buying dozens of these games and are not actively selling dozens of them as well then you are absolutely doing it wrong too. and most people here don't believe in selling. You're going to get stuck holding your cards, holding tons of items with no real value as soon as this bear market crashes to zero. It's already a minuscule market for all but the most popular titles. One day you're going to look around your basement thinking "what the hell have I done?"

After my own interactions with him over considering different shipping envelopes which resulted in some light stalking around here... I'm not at all shocked. I guess I'm just glad I must not have been as easy to find in the system or I didn't have any pending orders so nothing much that could be done. I did get the 5th anniversary coin.

For the Super Rare Blind Box Sale, I did the math. Based on raw percentages which, assumes all games are equally available in their respective categories, you have about a 50/50 chance of getting game that is "worth your time."

My estimate for "worth your time" is finding the PriceCharting New value for each game and subtracting $50 off it, which is the assumed cost of the blind box plus shipping. If the remaining value of PriceCharting New minus Total Cost is $10 or below, I think it's probably better to just go grab it off eBay (or not "worth your time"). If it's above $10, then it's probably "worth your time" regarding investing in a blind box. The $10 or less wiggle room also helps iron out the inaccuracies of PriceCharting in general, too.

But we know the games are not equally distributed. Therefore, if a game that is "worth your time" is only half as likely to be available as games that aren't, you have about 27% chance of getting a game you would want versus just getting it off eBay for the same price or cheaper. If the a game that is "worth your time" is only one third as likely to be available as games that aren't (meaning three crap games for every one high value game), you got about a 17% chance.

So basically, your best case is a coin flip. In reality, you have less than 1 in 5 chance of getting something for under market value, IMO, assuming you even want the game you get.

Essentially, don't buy them. Just go to eBay and buy the games you want.

In an odd coincidence, I just got an email that Aksys Games is releasing a physical version of Raging Bytes. Which is a Kemco game. So I think it's safe to say that they're done with LRG at this point.
 
Box is really nice. Shadow box is tiny with tiny cartridges in it. CD soundtrack includes Sega games. Got the NES soundtrack playing at work now. Just like the Switch steelbook, it's a little more gold than the original yellow look. LED acrylic light is bigger than I thought. It's taller than the game case/steelbook. Over all pretty happy with it.

I'm not going to lie, I like that VF5 statue. People on Twitter are asking if it inclides the DLC costumes, but no response yet. I kind of like this release of VF2 too. Neither are up on their site despite yesterday's preorder date.

Also, I just got an email my order of Quake II (Xbox), Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, Shadows of the Damned and Assults Suit Valken Declassified is preparing to ship. That's about a month before it was scheduled for right now. Not a bad turnaround. Hopefully they are getting these order to ship time frames down.
 
You know, I was gonna make a joke about the Virtua Fighter stuff like “what, no trading cards?!?” Then I opened my email and saw it ended up being even dumber than that…
