Wife wants a new laptop. $350 or less is ideal, would like an i3 and at least a 13" screen.

I've seen an open box DELL Inspiron 13z (i13z-8864sLV) Intel Core i3 3217U(1.80GHz) 6GB Memory 500GB HDD 13.3" Notebook Windows 8 for $330

Refurb ASUS X55C Intel Core i3 2370M(2.40GHz) 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 15.6" Notebook Windows 8 64-bit for $339

Since she is only planning to use it for web surfing and word processing, I could get away with a dual core processor.

Touchscreen would be nice as well, but its not a deal breaker. Suggestions? I've spent a little time hunting SD

That budget definitely doesn't leave a lot of room to work with, so something like this is probably the best you can get outside of maybe a black friday sale:

Have you perhaps considered a chromebook though? If she is only going to be using the web and other basic tasks, it might be a better option. Low end laptops generally have a pretty poor build quality, so chances are you aren't going to be thrilled with whatever you get, but chromebooks actually have a decent feel to them and would probably last longer since they don't have as much likelyhood of overheating. Just something to consider, I know the screen size might be a dealbreaker, but if you get the chance I'd head over to a walmart/bestbuy and give it a look:

Don't think we can wait till black Friday I had thought about the chrome book but she is locked into iTunes

Gateway has okay reviews I appreciate the suggestions

Based on their design, the Gateway would be a better productivity computer (better raw processor) whereas the Toshiba would be a better multimedia computer (APU with integrated graphics will result in better graphic/visual capabilities- though not really one for actual gaming).

Honestly though, besides the processor/integrated graphics set up, these two are almost identical laptops.

This looks just about right http://laalo.com/Dell-Inspiron-15R-Intel-Core-i5-23-GHz-15-HD-WLED-6GB-RAM-640-GB-HDD-Windows-8-Laptop.html

AMD is definitely better for the lower end because of the APU design.

I usually don't recommend bestbuy because it's overpriced usually but this is a great deal for $250.

AMD E2-1800 HD 7340 4GB DDR3 500GB (5400 RPM) Windows 8 64-bit
For the price I'd say this looks pretty good too. Granted black friday is just a month away, but I doubt you'll be able to find a better price-to-specs deal than this otherwise :)
