looking for smb3 type game recomendations

arcadecrawler

CAG Veteran
but it has to have that simple but fun gameplay, challenging but not too challenging

so far I have:

tiny toons nes
psycho fox sms
ackman snes
misadventures of flink mega drive/ sega cd
shantae advance gba
dkc,dkc2

recomendations I don't want:

rolo to the rescue Mega drive
Mr nutz snes
claymates snes

astro boy: omega factor gba
gunstar heroes genesis
klonoa gba
viewtiful joe gc/ps2

this is not same genre but you might wanna try it:
metroid fusion

Any S/NES Mario game... for that matter... just about any NES game is a basic platformer. I mean, you have two buttons, its not the epitome of complexity.
Battle Toads, double dragon, bubble bobble, Ducktales, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Mickey's Fun house is one of the hardest platformers ever though...

Bubsy's something for Genesis.

am I the only one who dislikes astro boy? it's alright but meh imo, I think it was overhyped
so this klonoa what is this game on par with?

nah don't like metroid or ninja gaiden (my fatal flaw :( I tried really I did) loved contra, gi joe and castelvania though esp the mega drive version

I haven't liked platformers since Mario 64... I think the 4000 Crashes and Spyros really killed the genre for me. BAD TANUKI!

:( no, no and no
I like smb3 and so do 9/10 of gamers out there but I dispise smw and smb2(for the hardcore I guess), battle toads was alright for it's time but you'd have to be a brilliant crazy albino gamer to get anywhere in that game

look at a few of my recomendations and you'll see some games have a certain class superiority to them and others don't

adventure island

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned it already but according to what you like I'd STRONGLY recommend Bionic Commando for NES. It's one of the best platforming games ever, comparable in mechanics to Castlevania and Contra. You also might try any of the Wizards and Warriors games for the NES. SNES had a lot more platformers but the ones I'd recommend for you there are Zool, Cool Spot, and (I'm sure you're aware of it's existence) Donkey Kong Country 3. Also be sure to try any Kirby game ever made, those might suit your tastes.

If you're willing to go into more complex games you can try Legacy of the Wizard for NES or Banjo Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and Donkey Kong 64 for N64.

Hope that helped!
To answer your question Klonoa is like mario but with puzzles and keys and junk like that. I also recommend lost levels and the japanese SMB3
Japanese SMB3? You mean Doki Doki Panic?
Japanese SMB3? You mean Doki Doki Panic?
Doki Doki was SMB 2, not 3.

I suggest:
Duck Tales NES
Kirby's Adventure (and most other Kirby games)
Super Mario World for SNES (obvious, but not yet mentioned)
Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse for Genesis
Alex Kidd in Miracle World for Sega Master System

Isn't the Japanese Smb3 the same as the American one?

You're not alone, I felt it was pretty flawed and not worthy of the attention it gets.

yes I couldn't agree more pales in comparison with gunstar heros etc etc

some nice replys but lets try and ween out the obvious like bubsy, mega man,dkc 1/2 (imo your a fewl if you never found out about dkc, that series is awsome) and mario pls
I'm sure 90% of this board knows their stuff ?

trojan I never heard of it sounds interesting, bionic commando I remember the arcade version from yonks ago is it very different? like ninja gaiden arcade to ninja gaiden nes?

thnx snotnose I must pick up this klonoa sometime how many are there for the gba I'm sure there are more than 1 you don't have an exact title?

awh ducktales was awesomeness incarnate I remember their being a part 2 as well as a part 2 for tiny toons on the nes great times...... maybe I should compile a list for this topic just to be clear like

great, good, okay etc?

Trojan is ok, but it's crazy hard and very dated. Not really alot of platforming to it either, you'd do good to probably just pass it up unless you found it for cheap.

Bionic Commando NES is great, it's very different from the arcade version. There's also a Game Boy Color sequel as well, called Bionic Commando: Elite Forces.

There are two Klonoa's for gba released in the US, Klonoa 2 is now 19.99 new everywhere. I think the full names are Klonoa: Empire of Dreams and Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament.

WOW thanks for the great detailed info :applause: Roufuss!

I didn't like any of the yoshi games or smw and I don't like kirby (I gave them a valiant effort but they just don't do anything for me) personal preference thing:cry:

Bonk, Bonk, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ya, get it for turbo grafx if you can (I like bonk's revenge best, but bonk 3 and bonk's adventure is pretty good too), but, if not, get super bonk for snes. If not that, get bonk's adventure for nintendo, or bonk's adventure or revenge for gameboy. But bonk belongs on tg16, he was essentially their mascot after all.

I really wished they had finished bonk rpg  .

Yeah I liked super bonk and super bonk 2 on the snes they were cool I got really flustered in the last levels but it was still fun though fun and crazy

how much better is the tg16 version? (must be major gameplay the snes already had great gameplay)man that would be really hard to get a hold of but I'll try someday

I just think the gameplay was better overal. My favorite one is bonk's revenge (super bonk is more like bonk 3: bonk's big adventure) and the turbo one is hands down the better version when compared with the gameboy one. It's a solid platformer, more developed than adventure but not jazzed up with the giant bonk or anything.
But part of it though is I grew up with the tg16 version, playing bonk on a nintendo system is like playing sonic on gamecube, it just doesn't seem right.
