Looking for some recommendations for some Underground Out-There MCs/Rappers

hiccupleftovers

CAGiversary!
Yaeh so whatever you guys can help me out with would be great. Big big fan of MC Paul Barman and am looking for some artists who would be considered similar to him. Big fan of MC Chris and MC Frontalot as well. I also really like the wacked out works of Kool Keith and MF Doom is simply the man. So yaeh, anybody similar to these artists, especially Paul Barman?

RA The Rugged Man. He's nuts but his flow is amazing on tracks. And maybe you might like Holocaust (aka Warcloud). I personally don't like him, but some people think he's good.

I wouldn't really call any of these "underground" or anything, but they're good for what it is.

Weerd Science
MC Lars
Immortal Technique
K-OS

I gotta get behind Sage Francis and Immortal Technique... amazing stuff, especially from Sage. I also kinda like The Coup for more of a funkadelic party flavor with a message. Also don't discount De La Soul. They were good, they are good, they always will be good.

Def R.A. the Rugged Man.

Also, Del the Funky Homosapien, Old Dirty Bastard, um um I can't think of anymore in that same vein.
u want some wacked-out left field bootsy shit???

listen to Anticon, Sage Francis, Buck 65, and Aesop Rock
You've got great taste sir. I add to that Deep Puddle Dynamics, Jeru the Damaja, and Doseone.
Tech N9ne isn't exactly a good rapper, but his delivery is awesome.
fuck you.

My recommendation: T, Drunken Tiger, Jinusean and DJ Hasebe.

not really in the same style as most of those mentioned above, but I've been listenin' to Tru Life lately, and they've been satisfying :D

Grand Buffet

Their CD's are great, but live is a sight to behold. The stage banter is some of the funniest stuff I've ever heard.
If this is who you're talking about, then I second. I'm going to see him with Gym Class Heroes March 6th.
Lucky bastard, I couldn't get tickets for the show tonight...but I did wait way too long to get them.

My recommendations:
Quasimoto (Madlib's alien alter-ego)
Eyedea and Abilities
Prefuse 73

If you wanted just straight-up underground-type stuff that's not whacked-out, I could give you some more rec's.

More votes for Panacea, K-Os, Aesop, Sage, and Immortal Technique.

Rakim
Clipse
Saigon
Immortal Technique **
Busdriver **
Murs **
Aesop Rock (BU Rep'n :)) **
Hi Tek
Sage Francis **
Black Thought
Jean Grae
Dr. Octagon
Blackalicious
MF Doom
Atmosphere
Madlib
Jedi Mind Tricks
Flipsyde (Very different, very good. rock/rap. They did the Olympics theme) **

truee, totally forgot about prefuse 73.
Speaking of Deltron .. I just read an interview with Dan the Automator that a new Deltron3030 album comes out early 2008.
Really? fucking awesome.

I'm also going to recommend J Dilla (RIP), Aceyalone, RJD2, Viktor Vaughn (an alias of MF DOOM), and King Geedorah (a project by MF DOOM).
You've got great taste sir. I add to that Deep Puddle Dynamics, Jeru the Damaja, and Doseone.
good taste?!?!?! I can't stand listening to those foolz!!

I jus thought the OP might like them coz they're all "out there"

I highly recommend RA the Rugged Man tho, as he's been already mentioned.

he's not abstract tho, he's just dope as hell.
My recommendation: T, Drunken Tiger, Jinusean and DJ Hasebe.
fuckin CB MASS dawg!!!

how can u forget them?!?!?! I can listen to those records all day.

but then they broke up, coz Curbin was a buster,

so Gaeko and Choiza became the Dynamic Duo.

I havent heard Dynamic Duo's albums yet, but I really want to.

I really like canibus's rip the jacker album. Nice beats,(supplied by Stoupe The Enemy of Mankind of Jedi Mind Tricks), The lyrics are dope.

Indeed. I'll be at that show out here at the end of March.

Speaking of, why not add the Gym Class boys to this list? Maybe not so much their new album, but "Papercut Chronicles" and "For The Kids" are great. Killer live show too - they draw a weird crowd, cause you get the hip-hop heads there for the music mixed with the FOB kids that only know them because Patrick sang on their album.

o yeah I gotta bump this thread again.

becoz based on OP's tastes, he would definately like

UGLY DUCKLING

also a lot of u guys make bad recommendations,

why would someone who likes Paul Barman and Kool Keith wanna listen to Reef the Lost Cauze, Clipse or Rakim.

and speaking of Kool Keith and Barman, they've both done tracks with this girl named

PRINCESS SUPERSTAR

she's quite bizarre lady emcee as well, you'd like her too

edit: I'll go along with Ugly Duckling, though. Bang for the Buck is good.

I was thinking the same thing. I could name a ton of underground rappers, but if they don't sound like anything he asked for, what's the point?

If you like Kool Keith and MF DOOM, listen to Quasimoto.

Just in case you didn't know, listen to Dr. Octagon (Koo Keith's alter ego), hiccup.
Panacea
Yaeh I really like him after you mentioned him in the SOTM and OTT threads, but he really isn't comparable to MC Paul Barman

Also, thanks for all the recommendations so far. gonna look into some of them for sure. I've listened to Quasimoto before, but I just could never get into him because his voice just sounded awful to me back then.

You make a good point because some of these don't even sound close to Kool Keith or Barman, but if it wasn't for this thread I would never had heard of Reef and that guy is damn good. I'm really liking his stuff actually, and Clispe has always been one of those semi-guilty pleasures of mine. I'll look into Ugly Duckling and Princess Superstar now though.

Of course Dr. Oct's the shit. Best Kool Keith alterego next to Black Elvis.

Yeah, I just got Reef's cd. Shit is tight.

No, fuck you. I don't think you could possibly be more asian...but then there's Zoglog.

damn took the words right from my moth i have seen 3 of the 4 live at coachella all were pretty cool shows
organized konfusion
Excellent recommendation. Mighty Pharoahe and Prince Po = fantastic.

Hell, just listen to Pharoahe Monch's solo stuff, too.

I feel like he and Kool Keith have similar fucked-up/awesome flows.

I gotta Agree with Atmosphere, it really isn't mainstream but has maintream prodution and sound, Really good rhymes and Beats, Slug FTW.

It also seems like you want just anything other then mainstream, so I would check out Danger Mouse and Jemini- Ghetto Pop Life, IMHO one of the Best Rap Albums Ever.
Speaking of Deltron .. I just read an interview with Dan the Automator that a new Deltron3030 album comes out early 2008.
Yes - these guys are great stuff, check them out.

Also Dr Octogon.

And --- MC 900ft Jesus!!

The Psycho-Social, Chemical, Biological & Electro-Magnetic Manipulation of Human Consciousness

best album ever.
Their newest album is really good, though. I think I might like it better than Psycho-Social. If you like former, though, Lost Children of Babylon are a good follow-up. They're the ones who put all the aliens stuff on Psycho-Social.

Relatedly, for people who like Reef/JMT, Army of the Pharaohs. Planetary fairly well kills the second verse.
