Lumines High Score & Level?

Yet another high score -- beat my old one by over 200,000.

492,892 - level 162

I think I'll ignore Lumines again after this. Gotta beat Metal Gear Acid, and haven't touched it in weeks.

im pissed. when i was playing the game where i got my high score, i accidently pressed down into a block that was at the top :(. it sucked. i still had a lot of space on my screen too! just on the right, the blocks were high.

OK, so I cracked open my PSP after getting home and played Lumines for about 3 hoursd last night. Looks like I lowballed my score estimate - I had 30,000 and managed to bump that to 35,000. Woo-Freakin-Hoo.

Also, I was finally able to figure out what puzzle mode was. The manual doesn't say jack about it actually. I didn't notice the little scrolling instructions at the bottom of the screen the first time I tried it. I'm usually so focused on the blocks that I never look down there. I went through a ton of the puzzles last night. The hard ones were 4x4 and all-clear, but I got through those and am now at the "Big G". Finally had to turn the thing off at 4am! I'd definitely say this is the easiest mode, and I think it will make me better for the main game, so I'm going to keep playing through this for a while (how many puzzles are there?).

Me too. I'm at around 35k and I have no idea what I'm doing but it is freaking SWEET.
 
haha yes this thread confirms my intuition that I suck at this game--my high score is like 45k.
 
I don't know about you guys, but I end up losing at about 40k at the blue and white stage...my mind/eyes just go totally blank when I hit that skin and i start just plopping blocks down like an idiot for some reason. Maybe because my mind hasnt seen that color combo at all up till that point?

I don't know, but I can't get by that skin no matter what!!!
 
yeah you are right javeryh. I got 320,000 + the other day and it was my first game of the day

when i finished (got bored and fidgity) the screen popped-up with the "load data" message and i hit yes. bad design
 
My high score is only 49k, and I've been playing like a madman. I've never been so addicted to a puzzle game before. Couple questions: Is there a 999,999 skin, and how do you do the puzzle mode? I seriously can't figure it out at ALL. Can somebody post a screenshot of a completed small cross or something? I feel so dumb.
 
I think I'm around 213k. It's really not that hard. I mean I can get 50k in about 5 minutes of playing. It only gets hard when you get to the fast falling/fast scrolling stages. The fast falling/slow scrolling stages are freaking amazing once you get used to them. You can get insane combos on them.

But I couldn't figure out the puzzle mode either, so I just ignored it. If anybody can help, I'd appreciate it.

I finally got 999,999. You do get a special skin for reaching that score.

In puzzle mode, don't be trying to make a gigantic cross. All you need to make it are three pieces.

where x denotes one color, o denotes the other, and * does not matter. Place the pieces like this to make a cross using color x.

Shove any other pieces you get off to the side somewhere.

I guess you can also do it using only two pieces if you make use of the way pieces will break apart.
 
I was actually coming to post about lumines strategy when I saw this thread, my high score is 419,315. I've tried two styles of play, slow and as careful as possible, attempting to maximize the clear all and single color bonuses and just throwing the combos as fast as i could makethem with no consideration for placement or anything.

I got the high score playing carefully and when i just played as fast as possible i made it through i dont know how many levels but i ended up back at the first skin with a lower score. I havent been able to reach anywhere close in the last few days. how do you guys play?

Achieved my high score of 420k last night...hopeing to get to 999,999 someday. This game is still fun and i've had it since it was released.

any way, my record is 277,525 points (I dont know what lvl, is there anyway to check?)
I've gotten to but havent beaten the gold and silver skin in vs CPU mode
in puzzle mode I've gotten to the small dog but I cant figure it out to save my life,
and in time trial, I've gotten 48 in 60 sec (just 2 min ago,actually), but I dont really do too much time trial

edit: just saw your score Fez, and you suck, I cant wait to kick your ass at school
 
My high score is 377808, been playing about 3 months. I'm a female although I have a guy's name. I have a picture of my high score but don't have a web page to put it on and link it to. My goal is 500k.

You can try imageshack.com for free, just upload a picture on the main page, you dont even have to register. that's what i just did. just paste the stuff from "hotlink for forums (1)" into your message here and it should show up like this.

Mine is slightly better, Lvl 97, 280k and some change. I'm also pretty hooked on Lumines, though I wish it had a way to start off on a certain level, like tetris. On average, it takes me at least an hour before I hit the 90s.

EDIT: Just to mention a personal strat of mine, you go for one colors and clear alls as much as possible, gain and keep momentum. Alos be sure to stay at least one step ahead, the next 3 pieces screen is a lifesaver, especially when you see the "virus" piece (I don't know it's official name :razz:.
 
I've been trying to 999,999 points to unlock the last thing I haven't unlocked--the highest I've gotten is like 730,000+, level 140 or something like that.

Actually, once you get to the higher levels (60 or so) it switches to like every 5 or 6... not completly sure:drool:

Challenge mode is 316333. I don't forsee myself ever getting 999999, although this thread has motivated me to play the game and try.
 
The only problem is that it seems to take forever to play a full game these days. I'll play for an hour and have to put it down because my eyes are about to explode. I shut down a game that I had well over 300,00 points on because I was dying to play some Tekken and I just couldn't see playing for another couple hours to get a high score.
 
hmm forgot the level, but i think it was something around 100, but the score is around 450,789. I got luckly because i kept clearing the screen so plus 1k everytime
 
man Ive been at 999999 for a while.

just play the game for an hour or so,

put it in sleep mode,

do other things,

then come back & play again.

just make sure not to load your game up when u die,

otherwise your hi score wont get saved

It took me a while but I finally did it. Slow increments. 300k -> 600k -> 800k -> 999999.

I made the load mistake as well when I was around 890000. I loaded up instead of saving.

Now the only obstacles left is vs cpu mode and puzzle.
