Madden 11 League-OFFICIAL CAG LEAGUE-That's all folks! Mini-tourney still coming tho!

I don't think the Saints are going to be world beaters again, but that's still a pretty solid team.

I think the NFC East is the toughest division in football (I put them above the AFC East simply for not having a Bills-esque cupcake). All four of those teams are pretty decent. The Redskins are probably still the worst, but are definitely improving. I could see them beating up on each other all year, which is why I suspect the wild cards might come from easier divisions.

I think Miami has a really good core of young guys and a budding (low profile) star at the most important position. (Henne). An inordinate amount of talent on D (Smith, Davis,Misi,Odrick,Wake, Bell) be it young for the most part. They made excellent moves in the offseason with Dansby and Marshall. They went 7-9 last year and are only 1 year removed from 11-5. Running game is solid, Henne progresses and now has Marshall. I feel like they got better than the Pats and the Jets since seasons end.

I think the Jets are a fucking circus and if not for Indy resting its starters last year they wouldn't have made the Playoffs. My Ravens ended the Patriots' run of invincibility in the Wild Card last year and all they did was get older.

My $.02

My picks

AFC:
North - Ravens
South - Colts
East - Jets
West - Chargers
Wild Cards- Pats, Bengals

NFC:
North - Packers
South - Saints
East - Cowboys
West - 49ers
Wild Cards- Falcons, Vikings (i guess)

Only team I'm not sure about is the Vikings.

I do agree that Miami is heading in the right direction, while one could argue that the Pats are not. However, the Pats are still ahead of the Dolphins in the AFC East pecking order, and ahead of the Jets too for that matter. As things stands now that will change eventually, but this season? I wouldn't bet on it. I believe that 11-5 season was the year of the wild cat, and now that the cat, ahem, is out of the bag teams have adjusted.

Besides Marshall, Henne really doesn't have anyone else to throw to. (Play the Jets w/ Revis and Henne has no one to throw it to :)) Ronnie Brown needs to stay healthy all year and is approaching 30, while Ricky Williams is departing at seasons end. Henne better progress as you are predicting, because they are going to need someone to throw the ball when the running game gets a complete makeover in the next 1-2 years.

Let's not forget the Jets are not only young, but established. They just locked up their LT and C for the next what 8 years? They will one of the best LT and C in the game for that time. The same can be said for Revis at his position and Harris, assuming they lock him up next offseason, at his. I think the jury is still out on Greene, one good season does not make a player, especially since he wasn't even the starter for the full year, but if he continues on the path he is on then you're also looking at one of the better RBs in the league and it's only his 2nd year.

We just had a connection problem in the my game. I was winning 35-6 in the 3rd and the connection gave out and were not sure on what side. He is unable to play again right now, let me know what the ruling is.

The Patriots are actually only old on the offensive side of the ball, and a lot of that is skewed by the running back corps which includes Faulk, Taylor, and Morris, all of whom are well north of 30. Add in Moss and Brady and Welker (the youngest of the offensive playmakers at 29) and it's obvious why they're the oldest offensive team, but I hardly think anyone could credibly claim the Patriots don't still have one of the best offenses in the AFC.

On defense, they're actually almost too young, especially in the secondary. Now that Bodden is out for the year, they're starting Butler and McCourty, who were drafted the past two years. All of the safeties are young as well. They're a bit older on the line for sure, where the loss of Warren will hurt, but they have some young LBs with potential, especially Mayo (who's pretty much arrived).

I'm not saying the Patriots are without their problems, but the age thing is overstated.

I'd think either you play him again or you play the CPU. Based on how the first game was going, I'm guessing the result would be about the same with either option.

I'd like to hear that argument. :D

The halcyon days of 2007 are not coming back, especially not in a more competitive division, but I think it would be a difficult case to make that the Patriots are headed in the wrong direction. After all they continue to stockpile draft picks and, for the most part, draft pretty well. As long as Brady remains a productive player, I don't think the Patriots will be heading back to the dark days (also known as pretty much my entire Pats fandom prior to 2001). After Brady... Well, I don't want to think about that yet. ;)

Agreed, plus I would like to move things along tonight. Try to avoid injuring his players if you could.

I'm going to log on now to temp boot him and also invite the new Redskins owner.

Did you forget who our starting LT is? :) Mr. Jake Long. (the dude's a beast.i'd say 2nd best LT in the game...only behind Joe Thomas...Ryan Clady's not bad either but i don't think he's as good as jake long) Vernon Carey is our RT. Very good Player, 28 years of age. Center being Jake Grove.... the inside and outsides are SOLID for years to come. The LG and RG however...are up in the air, i agree:d

p.s. i envy the Jets having Mr. Nick Mangold. The dude's something else:D

Well, the window for some of the key (mostly offensive) players on that team is heading more towards the direction of closing than opening you must admit. Unless Brady pulls a Favre, how many more years does he have in the league as a top QB? 3? 5? How about Moss? 2? The RBs are old as dirt, but that's never been a focal point so it's sort of irrelevant. Essentially you have the top offensive players ready for the last few hurrahs while the D is just getting it's feet wet. Not an ideal mix.

Though, when those offensive players are on their way out and that side of the ball is rebuilding, you hope (I don't hope haha) that the D is as dominating as it once was a few years back and that can carry the team as the offense is being built up again. But I think we'll see for the next couple years, or at least for the next 1-2 years as the D is playing catch up with the talent on offense, that the team regresses a bit. I could totally see them firing on all cylinders for a couple years in a year or 2, but that window will be even smaller and then another couple years of regression could creep back in.

Long is good, but D’Brickashaw is top 5 or right on the bubble of top 5, easily. He's 26. Mangold is also 26 and is the best center in the game. The right side is older, but that's why they drafted Ducasse this year in the 2nd round.

Speaking of Chatting....
Does any recommend a wireless headset (OTHER THAN the microsft wireless headset) that works with the xbox and DOESN'T require a cable to plug into the controller to talk over xbox live?
I was having problems with my wireless and wired headsets last night while trying to chat with matt young, and i'm fed up, lol.

I've looked at the following:
Turtle Beach Ear Force X41
Astros Gaming a40 Audio System
Triton AX Pro

But all of these requires the user to plug in an extra cable to be able to talk to people over xbox live... (it's wireless for a reason here...ugh)

Anyone got any ideas?

All 3 of the above are gladly in my price range...i just would prefer not to have to plug it into the bottom of my controller which when playing in a comfy reclining chair..is resting on my stomach...and crackles.

I think this might finally be the year that Belichick starts cashing in some of those draft chips he's been collecting. Depending on where the Raiders pick is (or, god forbid, the Pats pick if it's higher) I could see them making a splash on an offensive stud. Then again, I've said that before and it netted Laurence Maroney (every time I think about the fact that he was drafted before DeAngelo Williams, who I wanted at the time, it makes my skin crawl).

I know this sounds like homerism, but I firmly believe it: Whatever the number of years Brady remains a top QB (3 or 5 like you said, or more) the Patriots will be in it every year. As long as Belichick is the coach they're going to be passable enough on defense, even if it's on scheme alone. Bagging on the Patriots is one of the favorite pastimes of NFL fans, but until they actually fall out of contention for a season (and I mean fully out of contention, not missing the playoffs on a tie-breaker like in 2008, a year they played in full without Brady) than there is absolutely no evidence on which to think they're going to be out of it, other than wishful thinking.

Zurezo, DeskLaser has been temp booted for you to play vs CPU.

DeskLaser, there's an invite in there for you to join back when you're ready.

Kay Holiday and the red worm, there's also invites for you guys when you're ready to take over your respective teams.

I have the turtle beach x41 and it is very enjoyable, even with the sometimes annoying cord lol I love the headset personally.

The Eagles and Falcons should be playing at about 8:30 PM EST tonight after my beer-league volleyball team wins our season opener!

Side note: I switched ISPs from Verizon to Charter this afternoon and the techie suggested that I hard-wire the 360 to the router for optimal gaming.

Regarding real-life football discussion: Obviously, there's no problem with discussing it here, but in case anyone didn't know, there is an NFL discussion topic in Off-Topic as well. I'll probably post my predictions in both, since you guys are sharing yours here already.
Unfortunately, matt's defense showed up for the 2nd game ;(
Yes, but turnovers led to you scoring a couple TDs. It wasn't just bad defense on my part. :p

Injuries:

Packers:
SS Atari Bigby, Broken Jaw- 2 Weeks
TE Jermichael Finley, Broken Collarbone- 8 weeks

I knew about Bigby, but I didn't think Finley's injury was that serious. Son of a bitch. I would have much rather suffered the multiple-score defeat rather than lose 2 top players. :whistle2:\

Matt, sorry about not taking the knee on the final plays of the game.

No need to apologize. As I said, it wasn't really an issue before; just struck me as odd. I know you play the right way. I obviously didn't know about those issues when taking knees in prior games.

Very weird about the headset, especially since I could hear your voice message you sent. Maybe you have some connection issues? Between our game losing connection, the taking knee D/C's in the games you mentioned, and the chat thing, something seems to be off. But there was no lag whatsoever during either game... I don't know. Not my area of expertise.

bullshit interceptions, bullshit dropped passes... FUUUUUUUUUUUCK MADDEN. I cant even say Red Worm earned this win. Madden had it in for me as soon as we came out of the halftime break. fuck Madden.
I... ME, not the fucking computer, ME... put Haloti Ngata in the middle of the field cuz i knew exactly where the play was going... he threw the ball DIRECTLY to Ngata... i pushed Y... and his man catches the ball? Get the fuck out of here. I'm a heartbeat away from trading this bullshit game in

SN: No offense TRW, but there is no way you come back and beat me after i'm up 21-7, getting the ball after halftime, AND ur using Gameflow. The Madden Gods smiled upon you this day.

Gumbill, if we advance tonight, i'm free all day tomorrow except for a 30-45 minute stretch around noon when i have to take my dog to the vet. Lemme know somethin

I think the only way I would ever play you is without Mendenhall.

Bucs and Saints, what's the deal? Haven't heard from either. I know we originally planned to advance tomorrow but I don't want the whole league held up if you don't even have a scheduled time.

edit: nevermind, they are playing now. we'll be advancing by 10pm est I assume. PS: if you're matched up vs the CPU, DO NOT PLAY YOUR GAME. I think we're still waiting for the Redskins to join and maybe the Browns to join back.

Saints blank the Bucs, 48-0.

My 2nd string TE got injured for 2 months, what's the policy with free agency to get a replacement?

And to anyone still in the trade market. I'm looking for some help along the defensive line if anyone has any offers.

man, this sucks. its so demoralizing to get your ass kicked repeatedly. dropped pass after dropped pass. I had given up by the third quarter. I understand that I probably throw a lot of interceptions because im terrible at this game. but why do my guys have to keep fumbling on kick returns. its ridiculous.

Extremely frustrated.

I believe we're going to do a waiver process. I think he said we should be starting this week.

ubernes, how do you want to do it?

No offensive but, with the highest rated teams and the deepest you can go fuck yourself with FA pick-ups. :)

Oh, and I think the tie-breaker for the FA waiver should be reverse alphabetical order, to help compensate for the shitty playoff tie-breakers. So the later letter in the alphabet gets first priority if the teams have the same record.

I'm interested in the free agency/waiver process as well, with Jermichael Finley out 8 weeks. At least Donald Lee is decent.

Pitfallharry, let me know when you're available. I will probably be home for most of the weekend for Gears 2 bonus XP, but due to how hard it can be to get a good KOTH boosting lobby going, I'd prefer it if we set a time in advance.

I was making a inside funny. Lost due to the fact that my PMs aren't read by everyone on the board.

The 49ers have hit a major slump and realizes that their current roster is not a contender for the Superbowl, Not even for my division for that Matter, without Vernon Davis our team Sucks, Good Game to the Panthers who out played me also it was nice to see , No matter How bad I know Nate Davis is I continue to choose to throw with him so in essence its nobodies fault but mine Its as if Nate Davis makes the players around him worse Like Crabtree had some catches that hit his hands that he just decided to drop I was like WTF regardless MasterAwesome was playing great user Defense with Jon Beason, getting around the feild wreaking Havoc, Maybe I should run 40 times a game so Nate Davis can't fuck up too bad, lol

Well I just want everybody to know My team is on the trade block in essence nobody is untouchable except Patrick Willis, Vernon Davis and Taylor Mays I would say Frank Gore also But he may be headed to the Colts, I need to rebuild and fast because I still have 3 weeks without vernon davis and I can't take 3 more losses actually I refuse to take anymore losses, Ramesu It's time to Hit the Lab like back in 2004, Dog.

I never see him post in the thread, so I'd recommend trying an XBL message or a PM. He's easy to get a hold of that way. Actually, he friend requested/contacted me first on XBL for our game.
