[quote name='bvharris']That definitely makes sense. But at the same time, I'm now down a roster spot with no means of filling it other than a 1-for-2 trade. In real football I could put him on the IR and replace him from the practice squad or a signing.. I mean, the guy was a 69, I'm just looking for a warm body. Would this be a reasonable alternative: You can replace a player on IR only with someone with a lower overall rating at the same position (which is pretty much all that's left anyway).
The alternative is trading someone to get a replacement at that position and a DT (since I don't want to be down a roster spot), which of course wouldn't happen in real life given the inordinate number of guys working on practice squads, the CFL, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc who would be aching for a roster spot.

I still don't see the difference between being down a roster spot for 8 weeks if it's the middle or the beginning of the season. Obviously in real football you can remedy this easily, but we already decided we weren't going to open up the FAs to long-term injuries, I don't see how we can switch that now for season long ones as the halfway point of the season.
I did say we we're going to open up the free agents again Week 14 so people could make pickups for injuries going into the playoffs. My suggestion would be to wait until then, but if you have serious depth issues then I can make exceptions on a case by case basis. Like, if you had only one DT now and you run defenses with 2. What's your DT depth chart look like? Number of players and ratings, and what was the DT that got hurt?
edit: and by exception I mean, come up with a ceiling for the rating of the player you can pick up (no higher than your 2nd string? something like that) and allow you to pick someone up earlier than Week 14, but that would count as your 2nd FA pick up.
