Hi all,

I just got my copy of Majora's Mask in the mail today, and it's a gold cart with the hologram label. Just curious if all the carts had these two features or this was a limited edition thing. My OoT cart is just the grey one, so I'm not fanatical about collecting them, just curious.

Also, do N64 carts use batteries for saved games?

Forgot to answer the second question: most carts use batteries, but some use a little Game Save thing that plugs into the controller where the rumble pack normally goes.

Of the games I have, Gauntlet Legends and South Park Rally use the external game save device (I forget the name), and all the others use a battery in the cart.

Ah, ok. I wasn't sure if the N64 had introudced the battey-less save (ala GBA) yet or not. Thanks for the heads up!

Oh, good point, I just assumed they used batteries since they weren't using an external part. Maybe someone else can answer more definitively.

So there are Majora's Mask carts that don't have the holo label w/ gold cart?

Do they all have gold carts but only some have the holo label? Seems like everyone I've ever seen had both so I just assumed they made them all like that.

OTOH, I've seen plenty of gray cart Ocarina's.

They all are gold, but the holo label was only preorders (supposedly).

That's what I was just about to say. Most (if not all) N64 games use EEPROM and not battery-powered SRAM to save.

I didn't think it was just preorders, but the first shipment only. I think they expected it to sell as well as OoT, in which case they probably would have actually seemed rare.

I had OoT preordered, but i didnt get Majoras mask for quite awhile after it came out, and i could not find the collectors edition anywhere, i ended up getting it at retail price new off of ebay, this is when i was content with getting games for retail price.

I've seen about ten copies of gold MM with holograph....I don't think I've ever seen one without the holograph...anyone have an actual picture of their own holographic-less copy?

How/Where did you get the "Not for Resale" copies? Were they at one time bundled, or something? Never seen those either!
