In an older thread everything went to sh*t once it became full of referrals and it was worthless for anything else.
If that starts happening here, I'll delete the thread and be done with it.

Going to be getting my Quest 3 delivered tomorrow from the Verizon deal. I don’t have any experience with any Meta VR products (have a PSVR 1). Are there any tips/recommendations for a beginner new to the Meta ecosystem.

Thanks for a lot of the helpful content from what several of you have regularly posting but it does seem overwhelming where to start lol

I tried to capture a bit of my experience as a brand new user over in my referral thread. It isn't that crazy. Basically:

1. Use someone's device referral link (on a PC) before you activate your device so you both get meta store credit ($30).

2. You have to install the meta horizon mobile app to finish set up. (You could do that before the unit arrives to save some time)

3. Buy apps on sale if you care about discounts. They nerfed "app specific referrals" from 25% down to 15% and added the requirement that both users follow each other. Shortly after I activated I was granted a welcome15 and a welcome25 coupon discount from meta. The 15% worked on Beat Saber, which doesn't go on sale often so I grabbed it. I probably won't use the welcome 25% one before it expires

Wampler has linked the reddit discount thread which has coupons to get specific titles as much as 90% off, which is bonkers.

The accessories situation is different for everyone. I found the stock head strap not terrible but the stock cloth interface is irritating to my skin (I have crazy sensitive skin) but they now have a third party silicone interface cover direct on the meta store for $9 shipped. I get mine tomorrow so I'll report back.

Games: Beat Saber rules and I love Space Pirate Trainer and Superhot. There's a surprising number of free demos on the meta store. Also you'll get 3 months of Quest+ and can try a lot for free for that time period. I'm waiting to activate my Quest+ trial because I have no interest in the 2 special games this month.

Is there any specific info you're looking for?

Appreciate all the info walletandgromice and thanks for the heads up about the games and discounts. I've had some experience with the big titles like Beat Saber and Superhot on PSVR and will definitely be buying those again and looking forward to the Quest exclusives and media apps that are featured as well.

Accessories seem to be the next challenge to tackle with so many options and I'll have to look into those once I start using the headset. Thankfully with the holidays upcoming I'm sure plenty of sales will be offered on both games and accessories.

I watch this you tube channel a lot for information on accessories. I wouldn't buy a meta brand accessory without comparing it to third party alternatives a great deal first unless you run across a great sale. In my opinion, they are often overpriced but , except for launch elite battery straps, appear to be quality products. There are so many third party accessories out there that it can be tough to find information on many of them. I have been happy with bobo vr battery straps since I first had one for my quest 2. I don't use any audio accessories and I currently use the meta controller straps I bought at launch because there were no other options at the time. You can get a comparable controller strap for about $20 or less. When possible I do like to research an accessory a lot before buying it. You have to find what works best for you personally and what works great for me may not be best for you.

Be aware of meta's policy on app refunds. I've only gotten refunds two or three times and haven't had any problems when I did. I have a link to their policy at the top of each page.

Love that you added the “New Sale” indicators. I really appreciate these posts. Btw, Into Black and Undead Citadel have both released this week, so no longer have preorder discounts.
 
One last update on my Verizon order(s). The order that I assumed had been canceled, given that I got no confirmation email and my pending charge disappeared for two days after about a week, wound up going through all. For a day, it looked like I was getting two for the price of one. But then a fully posted charge showed back up, so two for the price of two.

A friend wound up wanting to take it at cost. Saves me from having to send it back, and should hopefully get me a multiplayer buddy for a few titles. In the end I’d say things worked out pretty well

Not yet, but he will. Been waiting a couple days for a different friend to figure out how to send me a referral first. I don’t think he knows what account he originally signed up with. When he logs in it breaks the referral page on the website. If he logs in on the app it gives two messages, one about how the process works and one to say he has no apps to refer. But he definitely has games and apps. I know for a fact he has Beat Saber at least. So something is askew

He’s going to try one more time to figure it out. I saw him this morning and tried to do it for him. But I didn’t fare any better.

The website tells him “This page isn't available. The link may be broken, or the page may have been removed. Check to see if the link you're trying to open is correct.”

The app says “How it works. When a friend buys an app with your referral link, they can get a 15% discount and you can receive up to $5 in promotional Quest cash. You can earn up to $599 in credit per calendar year. Terms apply.” And “No apps available to refer. App referrals are only available for apps currently sold on the Meta Horizon Store for $10 and up. It looks like you don't own any apps that are applicable for referral right now.”

Could be that the account was created by his wife of kid and he’s logging into the wrong one
 
From the mobile app. Bottom center button is the profile icon, tap to go to profile page.

From the profile page the top right button is the menu button (three horizontal lines) to go to the menu screen.

Scroll down the menu screen to Payments and Subscriptions and under that a few lines down is referrals. There's a link on the referrals page to generate and copy the device referral code.
 
I've seen some people mention that they redeemed something for Supernatural when they bought new Quest 3s, but don't know what they received since the app itself is free and is supposed to require a subscription to use. Does anyone know exactly what the redemption is for?

Beat me to it. I’m not going to have access to my headsets for the next week, so I’m not even buying it yet. I haven’t decided whether to buy the game outright, or buy a third headset to get it “free” (plus get both the sending and receiving headset referral credit, essentially $50+$30+30=$110.00 incentive). If I could game share between 3 headsets, that would probably push me over the top, but since I can only do it between 2, and I already have 2, it is slightly less enticing. I’d love to upgrade to the 512, though, and stop having to shuffle around games (for a while). Btw, Batman is apparently a 19GB install, not as bad as I was afraid it might be.

Vendetta Forever looks like it could be interesting.
How are people finding Batman? Only got to play it for an hour or so yesterday before my batter died but was fun and seems like the type of game I've been looking for since Half Life Alyx. Also made me buy a Kiwi headstrap with battery from Amazon so hopefully be able to play it a bit longer today.

How can I find the Fall Frights sale on the web or app? There is nothing obvious to me. When I click the link provided it takes me to a “this page not available” error. Thought maybe the link was broken so I searched the sale and followed a link from a news article and got the same result

I also think you have to be logged in to your meta account otherwise the prices don't show any discounts
 
I’m logged in, but still shows a page not available error. Or a blank page if I open it in the app. That’s why I was hoping to navigate to it rather than clicking a direct link. I see no mention of a sale at all in either the app or the website. Looked up RE4 (it’s one of the sale titles, right?) and it shows $39.99 even when logged in

Have you activated your account with your headset? I ask because I think they change something about our accounts when a headset is activated on it. Weird, I know...

Headset has been activated for a few days now. Have my free copy of Batman downloaded and been playing. Logged in both on the website and the app. Bought a game on the account using my referral bonus. Was able to buy Elysium Trials on sale for $1.50, but it was with a discount code rather than a store sale. Can see my remaining store balance.
 
It’s on Reddit and slickdeals too. I forget which I saw it on, but someone mentioned they reached out to support already. The response was something along the lines of ‘hang tight’

Decided to go ahead and contact chat support about access to the sale. I was told to check that the sale had stated yet because they didn’t think it did. Then they ended the chat before I could reply

Edit: I found an email that apologized for being disconnected and asked to continue assisting via email. Hopefully something gets figured out. When googling the sale came across Reddit threads where people couldn’t see it, not just for this sale, but also for this same sale a year ago 😳
