I know this is a continuation of an already derailed mess of a topic, but I'm curious. When I was browsing the clearance at Target earlier, I noticed several copies of this years tax software marked down significantly. If I were to have filed my taxes using an illegally obtained copy of this software with the intent of purchasing it after tax day when I knew it would be on clearance, would I still be in the wrong? The developers would still have been paid in full for their software, and I would own a license to use it.
I'm totally in agreement that piracy or other things like what's being discussed here are fraud, and I'm a firm believer in purchasing my digital content legitimately, but the thought occurred to me today that this is kind of a grey area and since this thread has already moved to this topic, I figured I would get some other people's opinions on the matter.
Regardless, I think it's pretty big of Microsoft to offer this refund. Good customer service is too often a thing of the past.
