Minor PSX Repair

I'm coming across a lot of PSX consoles lately (the old, clunky one, not the mini PS1) at garage sales and such, so I now have about three or four of them sitting around my room. I want to trade them to CAGs or eBay them, but I want to make sure that they work first - one is already promised to a friend in exchange for his FFXII.

However, a major problem I'm noticing is that the Eject/Open button is getting stuck on most of them. Is there a quick fix to this, or am I going to have to resort to opening them up? Anything I should know in advance of cracking the seals?

Thanks in advance!

This reminds me of the days when I tried getting 2 TVs, 2 PSXs, and 2 copies of Doom to play it with a friend. When I finally got all of it, one of the TVs stopped working. When I finally got another TV, one of the discs stopped working. This was right after the PS2's release so they were still somewhat expensive =/ I never got to play Doom, 2 player on PSX :(

That should answer the OP's question. I guess we can close this up!

The problem has been solved not.

This site looks like it has some good info on psx repair, but it doesn't look like it has anything on eject button. You still might want to take a look if you're having any other problems.

Thanks, but its pretty much just the Eject button sticking...on three different consoles, plus random ones I've examined in the local thrift/goodwill. Its got to be a fairly widespread issue, then, doesn't it?

By sticking, do you mean pressing it down and it stays down? Or pressing it down and it doesn't open? Can't say I've had the latter, but the former has happened to me.

Wish I could be of more help, but I never did try to fix the issue.

It opens and the buttons stays down, and you have to kind of slam it closed to get it shut (at which point the button pops back up). Its not preventing use of it, just creating a less-than-perfect working condition status due to a minor mechanical snafu.

Something's probably un-lubed or something of that nature.

It probably just needs cleaned...take it apart, clean it with some orange clean or windex on a paper towel, and put it back together. A soft toothbrush is good to get in areas easily...

This happened all the time when I worked at EB in the late 90's...took about 15 minutes and presto...it was fine.
