Movies with talking animals? Ok, we get it already...

What has Hollywood read that we suddenly want nothing but movies about animated films starring talking animals? With Barnyard coming out soon, we have already had recently Madagascar, Over the Hedge, The Ant Bully, The Wild, Hoodwinked, Ice Age 2, and Doogal. All have come within the last year or two, and we still have Open Season yet to come in a few weeks. Does anyone REALLY think we need all of these same movies with replacable casts?
 
Well, they're clearly profitable if they keep making them, so Hollywood is just supplying the demand.

And in their defense, a lot of these made-for-children movies are actually enjoyable for adults, too.

I have noticed that there has been an incredibly high amount of computer graphic cartoon movies with animals lately. And this Barnyard movie doesnt even look like it makes sense.

That might actually be better. Ever seen "Bear"? Not a cartoon, but it pulled of the no talking thing excellently. You could still understand what was going on and the emotions even though there were like 2 sentences in the whole thing(spoken by humans). Haven't seen "March of the Penguins", but I'm thinking its along the same lines.

Tom and Jerry old school cartoons would like to have a word with you... hell even the old Tex Avery stuff (I have the full set on my hard drive) is hilarious and most of them utter not a word.

I think with me it sort of varies by the company.

Pixar: 'Alright, now this should be good.'
Dreamworks: 'The makers of Shrek? This COULD be entertaining.'
Anyone else: 'Not ANOTHER goddamn CG animated film...'

Animation has gone the videogame route, in that tradional handrawn films are being phased out in favor of 3d graphics. Sound familiar: 2D versus 3D?

It is and (regardless of the pussy-factor) it's great.
 
Just imagine all of the trivia questions that will be answered wrong in 10 years because no one will be able to tell the difference between Bugs, Ants, and The Ant Bully.

That was before animals could talk. Now they have something to say and they are gonna say it (in the voice of David Schwimmer).

It's Antz. They changed the "s" to a "z" to remind people how badass it is since Christopher Walken is in it.

Well here's an extenstion to the question: do 'you' in general care if you get a cartoon character voiced by generic voice actor, someone famous in the cartoon voicing game like Phil Lamar/Cree Summer, or Hollywood's so called heavy hitters?

Rabbits
Bears
Roosters (not big on chickens though)
Turtles
Camels
Weasels
Anteaters
Beavers
Wombats
 
I can understand where the OP is coming from but I think the problem is not the talking animals; I think the problem is all these movies are pandering to children. There are no 3D animated films made for adults (with the exception of maybe Shrek).

By the way, there is one cartoon movie that stands out in mind as having talking animals and it was made for adults and that was 'Fritz the Cat' which was made in the 70's. Its a slow movie but I enjoyed it and it seems it aged well.

As long as the voice acting is good, I could care less who is doing it.

It is nice to see that video games are getting away from the "big name voice talent" in games that was all of the rage a couple of years ago. Hopefully animation will follow suit. I mean, does anyone go to see these movies strictly because a well known actor is voicing the character?

You can probably blame Aladdin for starting that (Robin Williams as the Genie sold a lot of tickets).
