With the new features brought into the Gamestop website, I decided to try it out with my gift card I recently got. I know how Gamestop has the reputation to be horrible, but I decided to take a risk. I had my EDGE card ready, and the codes (CAG16 & SAVER). Hopped on to the website and bought Shadow Hearts Covenant, Amplitude, and Devil May Cry (ALL USED). Total was around $33. Shipping took a good 5 days to arrive on my doorstep, which is perfectly fine. Opened the box and found the following:

Amplitude - Cover, Manual, CD (Case is beaten up)
Devil May Cry - 1 CD (No Case, Scratches)
Shadow Hearts - 1 CD (Suppose to be a 2-disc set, No Case, Scratches)

See what's wrong? Shadow Hearts...1 of the 2 Discs were sent to me. No Cases, the games were only protected by a little sleeve. Furthermore, the packaging came with no protection at all.

Gamestop FAQ and Help proved no help to me whatsoever, so I decided to ring up the company. After some button-mashing on my phone to get to a real person, I was put on hold. I was there for roughly 15 minutes holding the phone up before a rep. came on the phone. The only "Good" thing about it was the support that came after the hold.

The lady asked me for the order number and my name. I told her I was missing a disc from the game. After about a minute of silence, she told me Gamestop will send another one with overnight shipping. Not bad...

Overall, Gamestop proved to be one of the WORST retailers out there. Don't take the risk of buying games from them. If you are, go to the store, you're better off. Amazon is much better online. Target, Best Buy, or lesser known retail/game stores prove to be more conveniant if you're looking for a quick purchase.

To their credit, it says clearly that used games can arrive in any condition with or without box and manual on their site. If it doesn't work or something is missing, only then do they replace it.

Yeah, it says right on every page (by the order button) that you're not guaranteed a manual or case so I'm not sure what the problem is there.

As for the SH thing, just contact them and you'll get your order fixed (hopefully).

I have never recieved a used game in good or even fair condition when I've ordered from gs.com. They're usually either disk only, sometimes in the jewel cd case, sometimes in a paper sleeve. Or if I do recieve a game in a case, its been scarred with stickers, usually it looks like a game sent back to the warehouse to get rebuffed or something. If you must, maybe your local gs will be friendly enough to exchange the game for you, which has happened on occassion for me. Otherwise, just buy from the store in the first place, unless the sale is almost unpassable of course.

wow, ive gotten nothing but great games lately...and when i ordered Amplitude, it came complete/mint/and with the bonus POD demo that didnt even come with the original game

GS.com has been nothing but good to me...for now, at least
If you buy from gs online, will the store always let you exchange it even if its in playable condition?
Just make up a valid excuse and yeah, they'll let you exchange it. But they'll only swap out the discs... if you want to exchange a disc only copy for a complete copy, they'll most likely turn you away. But they might let it go.

I remember one occassion where they were about to send me off to another location before I told them that I actually checked that one out first and they were out of stock. Even then, he only exchanged disks for me, which kinda pissed me off since I was given a GH version inside my non GH case (There was a complete non-GH copy but he decided to give the loose GH version =/)

They've made a lot of changes to their site, but the fact that they don't send games with case, instructions, or even decent shape makes them the last place I'll order games online. I'd rather take my chances with a sketchy Ebay buyer even.

OP: Interesting story.. buying used games online from retailers is generally a crapshoot. I stick with ebay (feedback is king) or go in store to buy used stuff. Definitely the potentially for good deals at least.

It truly is like russian roulette. I got tired of trying to track down Futurama on XBox so I bit the bullet when I saw it in stock on Gamestop.com .. lucky me, it arrived complete, with the disc looking great.

Just an update for everyone. It seems the support is amazing. The lady on the phone yesterday precisely told me that it would come on Thursday/Friday. Well, I got it from UPS today! It came with the 2 discs, instruction booklet, original case, and original cover art.

It seems it was processed right after I called and was directly shipped to me.

I also got to keep the original disc I got from my original order.

Do they still send games in those padded envelope? Is there a threshold on the number of games before they would use a box?

You know, I've recieved single games in a box wrapped up with bubble wrap before. I guess it depends on whoever is packing your games.
