n64 games rarity and collections

CAGiversary!
with the release of the wii now the n64 is old ass sysytem. I can still remember it being new , thinking perfect dark was a great game , playing goldeneye untill way too late bajo and bajo tooie, i just beat paper mario last year,Well her is my real question . i only have 10 more nes games to complete my licensed game collection and those are really expensive and hard to find . so now i am going to move to the 64 what are the some of the raregames so i know how much my bank account will bleed

I know Clayfighters 63 1/3 Sculptor's Cut was a Blockbuster exclusive. That's a rare find.

They made 2 Goemon games, the sidescroller one is harder to find.

Sin & Punishment, it's an import title but highly sought after by collectors. This one might be the most expensive and net you around $50.

Those are just a few off the top of my head.

Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine was a Blockbuster exclusive as well. It will be rare but I don't think it should be particularly expensive.

You could also buy it off of Lucasarts Website (it's where I got mine, so as to avoid my copy being covered in stickers. I think it was still for sale there up until 2005.

Other Blockbuster exclusives are

-Transformers: Beast Wars
-NFL Blitz Special Edition
-Clay Fighter 63 1/3 Sculptor's Cut (this will be the rarest North American release)
-Blues Brothers 2000 (I think at least)
-Razor Freestyle Scooter (the N64 version was only at Blockbuster)

There were one or two more but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

But as rare as these games are, they don't cost a whole lot. Maybe cause none of them are all that great. I picked up a Clayfighter 63 1/3 SC for $5 at on old Blockbuster about a year ago.

looks like mario party 3 , oger battle , harvest moon , and conkers all bring a good cib price

oh yeah just got ducktales 2 and bubble bobble 2 nes, only 8 more t0 go

harvest moon is really hard to find.. of all the "rare" games i've come across at used game stores.. i've only ever seen harvest moon 64 once.. and they wanted way too much for it (i don't spend more then 20 for a game.. they wanted like 50.. a year or so ago)

next on that list i'd say ogre battle is still sought after.. (as all ogre battle games are) and it holds a good price.. starcraft i picked up for 20.. i think it'll go up in value with the impending release of its sequel and the 64 version is perfect for multiplayer..

mario party 3. .is hard to find only because it came late in its lifespan..

but most other games should run no more then 5 bucks.. lots of great games on the system regardless. even though they aren't "rare"

Harvest Moon 64 really that hard to find? It's incredibly common here. I must of seen over 30+ here. I generally use them as filler for buy 2 get 1 free sale from gamestop afterwards I ebay them.

Harvest Moon is not really rare.

The truth is few modern games are bonafide rarities. There are exceptions (Electroplankton on the DS, Pokemon Box on the Gamecube... games that had to be special ordered) but on the Nintendo 64 there are no true 'rare' games. Every game, for better or worse, got a 'wide' release, including the last game released for the machine (Tony Hawk 3). Even the Blockbuster Exclusives are not rare. I mean, think about it... how many Blockbuster Videos are there? Tons. Stuff like Sin & Punishment fetches money because it was never released here. Games that cost a lot of money (such as Mario Party 3 as someone mentioned) is on reputation and not rarity. I've seen it at least twice in the wild over the last month.

A more accurate way to say it is "uncommon." Some games are harder to find then others, but anyone without money restrictions could put together a complete US N64 collection from start to finish within 3 months. If you're looking for mint games, make it six months. If you're looking for boxes and books, make it a year. It's not even really a challenge. It's a fetch quest.

well i guess i am up for the "fetch quest" I would like all games complete. I have a good start already . with buying alot when they were new

I didn't mean to sound harsh or anything. There's nothing wrong with going for every N64 game. I'm saying there is no challenge about it.

Same with Sega Dreamcast. To find a complete copy of every US Dreamcast game, online or off, should take a year or less. Not difficult in the least bit.
All 306 of them if your just counting NTSC games would cost a bit though.
Sure. No denying that. I'm saying that FINDING them is not a challenge. Raising the funds to do it could pose a problem.

I think with about $2,500, if you looked in the right places, you could pull it off.

I likely would have myself by now but screw it, too much money. I would rather buy a pinball machine with that kind of scratch.

Please tell me you're joking. Project Justice is probably the most difficult to find US Dreamcast title. Finding a COMPLETE COPY is a feat. Finding a complete copy that you can afford is also a rarity. That and Marvel vs Capcom 2 are the two US DC games that are sought out most and bid on in heavy numbers when encountered.

And? You do realize most Blockbusters get rid of said exclusives, right? Even if there's a ton of the stores, there's few copies assigned to each store. The likelyhood of them selling them when a console's no longer supported is rather small as they seemed to just get rid of some when they were no longer around, instead of selling them off as previously played. It happened with Dreamcast, N64 and PSOne here.

And considering how long ago those three systems went out, it's impossible to actually find any in their stores. If you're an unlucky bastard who lives in a coast where the ONLY game retailer is GameStop, you also have to hope the stores nearby still sell used games for older systems. And even then, you have to hope to find said copies in their posession while you dig away through their piles of sports titles.

It took me one second to find a copy of Project Justice.

That all took me about two minutes to put it together. There is no such thing as a "rare" Nintendo 64 or Dreamcast game. But hey, thanks for getting snippy with me there, Chip. Perhaps next time you try to act like you know more then me, you actually will! Don't let go of the dream!

I think saying "rare N64" games is a fairly correct statement. Because compared to other N64 games they are rare. Now comparing it to Bubble Bath Babes or Dungeons & Dragons Collection then I can see how you would think they're not. But regardless you can find anything on eBay no matter how rare it is. eBay is flooded with these games cause there aren't many outlets to sell them. EB/Gamestop stopped selling them & taking them in (at least around me they did.)

Another reason why finding rare N64 games is easier is that most of these games aren't any good. People don't want to keep them in the first place.

If there's more than 5 auctions for it on ebay or in completed listings in the past 6 months, it's not rare.

It may be valuable, or command a high price, but rare it is not.

Five auctions compared to HOW MANY copies printed nationwide? >_> Yeah, totally not rare.

Just because there are a few auctions up doesn't mean it isn't rare. Especially, as pointed out, eBay has virtually everything up for bids, despite actual rarity. Considering game stores and regular retailers have stopped selling said games, it IS rare coming across said games.

This thread is 90% arguing semantics ("rare" is a relative term - why argue about the use of "rare" vs "uncommon"). Helping the OP would be more interesting.

UUhhm . well i guess from everything said nothing is rare just some uncommon, I have been at my nes collection for 22 years now and can still find the games, for sale. if keeping up with this precedance for the n64 i have untill 2016 to collect these games , nes has about 650 games while n64 has about 300 . I will get them, It will just take time and patience,. which i have.

Okay Mr. Thread Police, I'll make this thread more intresting by saying you're no better. Why don't you contribute you a$$?

That was fair. Most of the hard-to-aquire (for either rarity or $$ reasons) boxed 64 games I know of are already listed, but I'll add Stunt Racer 64 to the list.

Now you're talking! (As I gaze at my Creature from the Black Lagoon and Whirlwind machines)...

So when can we expect a Wrestlecrap Pinball Machine? I want to shoot through the wall to earn the Shockmaster bonus!

So you got Creature from the Black Lagoon and Whirlwind?

I think you got me beat. I've got Dungeons & Dragons (1987 Bally) and Tales from the Crypt (1993 Data East). My dream is to have a Twilight Zone pinball machine, but finding a local one is difficult and I have a "No Ebay" policy when it comes to my game/arcade/pinball collection. Here's hoping!

They already made it - WWF Royal Rumble, 1993. Shoot Mr. Fuji for Extra Ball!

I could have gotten a TZ when I got the Creature, but I personally prefer Creature to TZ. I was actually considering sell the Whirlwind (even had it on Mr. Pinball a couple weeks ago) and putting the money towards and Attack from Mars. I decided, though, that the AFM was just too darn much money - I mean, to get a decent one you're looking at at least $3500 or so. Too rich for my blood!

I didn't even know they made a D&D machine! That's wild. I bet if you sold both you could get that TZ...

Keeping Sin and Punishment sealed couldn't be done. I pre-order imported it back when it came out, for the sole purpose of playing it. I wish I hadn't opened it, but it was worth the loss.

I also bought 2 copies of the Limited Edition Legend of Zelda: Ocarina,.... one to play, the other to collect. My dirt poor uncle had just bought a N64 for his kids for Christmas, and couldn't afford a game, so he asked if I had anything I might give him. I felt really shitty having a job while he didn't, and for the kids who would have a system, but no game,... so I gave him my sealed copy :(

Turns out that copy would easily fetch $1000 these days :(

Try to find Bangai-O, and GET Sin and Punishment. These games mean more than money!!!

The D&D one is pretty neat. Never cared for actual D&D but the pinball is cool and very unique. Instead of having drop chutes, it has two retractable metal ramps that you can push a button next to the flipper buttons to make the ramps fold out and save the ball. It's called the "Magic Save." Only two machines have such a feature, the other being a body building pinball machine called "Hardbody" by Bally, same year.

I'm not going to sell my machines. As a collector, I've never been big on the whole 'trading in the old stuff' trend in gaming.

What does this have to do with Nintendo 64? Well... obvious all those video pinball games for it like... uh...

Eh screw it, I just wanted to talk Pinball with the Real Deal. Hey, maybe I can trade him something for one of those Wrestlecrap DVDs they have on his website.

I've seen a bunch of Mario Party 3's around, and I have one, so I'm not sure about the rarity...
Do you have pictures of your collection? Lol, it sounds pretty damn impressive.

Bomberman 64: The Second Attack! is pretty rare. It's rarely offered on eBay, and finding a complete copy is very hard (though I have one for my collection!)

Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness is not as rare but a sought-after title. That's also a good investment.

Sin and Punishment
is awesome too. Don't forget to get your Adaptor Wonder if you don't want to mod your N64!
