Would this be possible?

has anyone heard of any rumors or facts on this. This would be awesome specially with the wireless multiplayer features. I really hope that they port one if not both of these over to the DS, but with Rare with XBOX...hmmm. I really hope this happens in the near future.

wow. I had completely forgotten about a goldeneye port. That would be a great idea. I'm pretty sure it will happen. I wouldn't see why not. Havne't heard anything though.

I think its pretty unlikely for Perfect Dark, Rare has the rights to that game, and its pretty busy being behind deadlines with Xbox games. As for Goldeneye, Nintendo would have to make the game with EA, since EA owns the rights to bond games. Since they are always lookin to make more money it is possible, but dont hold your breath

They're making Goldeneye: Rogue Agent for DS. It's got a very short development cycle, pretty much on par with a port's cycle, but no pictures have surfaced.. maybe it'll drop the RA name and be a port, that would be AWESOME.

A port of the N64 goldeneye is extremely unlikely. You need both the Bond license and Rare's ownership of the code base and non-license covered IP for the game.

Of course, Rare could probably license Matt Helm or Derek Flint and have some fun with the second-string nature of those movies while reviving the classic game.

It's possible. Rare has been working on a few GBA titles recently and I don't think that Microsoft is against making money. I wouldn't be suprised if they actually wanted the DS to be successful so that Sony uses up more of it's resources on the PSP rather than the PS3.

I don't really want a port of either, but i'm not a FPS fan.

EA only has the rights for a bit longer, Sony bought MGM which owns bond so soon Sony will have exclusive rights once EAs contract expires.

Prime:First Hunt plays quite nicely using something on the touch screen to aim (Stylus, thumb strap), having a couple of touch spots to change weapons (Prime lets you switch weapons and morph into a ball). I think it would work well

I hope Sony gets the full James Bond rights soon because EA and MGM have dragged James Bond through the mud and show no signs of letting up.

We need a quality Bond game, and as long as EA is making Bond games it won't happen.

Electronic Arts, publisher of Goldeneye DS, has confirmed that Goldeneye DS will be based on the N64 hit, Goldeneye 007. So, it looks like this will not be a port of the upcoming console title, Goldeneye: Rogue Agent, as some thought. It is not known whether this will be a complete remake of the N64 title or simply a port (which still wouldn't be bad).

It says it's BASED ON. I seriously doubt they'd tag on the RA name if it was a port or remake.

I would much rather see Perfect Dark ported to the Xbox with a higher frame rate, better textures and character models, and a few bonus multiplayer maps (and I guess Xbox Live support for those with Live).

Not necessarily. It's quite common for media giants to license out properties to those who are likely to generate the most revenue than hand it to internal divisions for development. In all likelihood, the MGM operation will have some autonomy when handling licenses based on their library. If Sony wants to do an exclusive Bond game they'll have to compete with offers from outside entities. They bought MGM to make money and that means business as usual for those handling the properties.

Big companies can have good reason to be wary of trying to keep everything inhouse. When I was at Cinemaware we were approached to do a Roger Rabbit game. Disney didn't have a clue about what was involved in game development and wanted it ready for the movie's opening in only five months and were not going to let us see more than a few bits of the movies in advance so as to have something to base the game upon. We were honored to be the first approached but had to send them packing because they just didn't get it. They then went to a Who's Who list of major game companies of the era and all of them said the same thing. No game worth a damn was going to ship while the movie was still in theaters.

Disney decided they'd show everyone how to do it right and set up their own operation to develop games from Disney properties under the name Buena Vista software. They hired a guy famous for Amiga demos to lead the Roger Rabbit project and several months after the movie's video release they finally released a game. As expected it was very pretty but utterly unplayable with glacial load times. Perhaps then it struck home why their guy was famous for demos and not games. Buena Vista Software continued to be an expensive embarrassment until they finally saw the light and began licensing to companies with proven track records. Which is why we got the fine Aladdin game, among others.

They said the console Goldeneye Rogue Agent games would be based on the N64 Goldeneye:007 as well...

GoldenEye 007 (Nintendo 64) - Dan Biersdorf

Somewhat of an obvious wouldn't you say? The game that goes down in history as what boomed the console FPS craze was straight from the masterminds at Rare. The game featured almost scene-by-scene movie action and had a multiplayer mode that was unforgettable. Yet as the genre advanced the game only lagged, enemy bots were added into the gameplay, LAN play popped up and now even online play – something the DS offers in a single package. Don't you think its time the game got a facelift? We do. With the variety of new technological feats the Nintendo DS has provided, it would only be right to utilize them to work with our beloved GoldenEye. Imagine 16 players in the Temple, a wireless co-op mode, or even downloadable maps and missions.

What are the chances?

With all the licensing mumbo-jumbo it's hard to keep track of how this all could be worked out. Remember Rare developed the game, but Nintendo published it, and now EA Games owns the James Bond license until 2011; there would have to be a large agreement between all three to get this game in the works. But it can be done, yet with Microsoft owning Rare and all chances are slim.

Perfect Dark is a Rare title, and Microsoft isn't letting Rare make games for the DS, probably because they have a new handheld planned or something.

But like said before, you need EA to get the Bond licence to Nintendo for the game, and you need Rare in a way to get it too.

Neither will happen.

what about all the rare games nintendo is releasing on the GBA like the donkey kong country games? i mean, they even say rare on them when they load up just like the originals, but rare isnt releasing them, nintendo is. i was under the impression that rare was a second party developer under nintendo like retro is, so once rare jumped shipped i assume nintendo owns all the stuff rare made to do with as they please. because the licence for bond is EA's and not nintendo's anymore nintendo could ask EA to do the port and not change it, which would be nice to get EA working with nintendo (massive 3rd party support) and also release a beloved classic and sell more DSs (i would buy one if goldeneye 64 was ported to it with multiplayer). i dont know, i honestly think it can be done because i dont think rare is really even in the picture, and EA is no stranger to porting games, running franchises into the ground, and making money (especially when money can be made from practically no effort).

Donkey Kong is a Nintendo name, so even through Rare made the games Nintendo owns the games. Plus Microsoft is letting Rare make games for the GBA anyways.

James Bond is not a Nintendo name, so I think Rare owns the rights to it, and EA owns the rights to James Bond games now.

Rare made Goldeneye and Nintendo didn't owe the license so it's a Rare game.

You have to read the legal agreement that Rare and Nintendo made to understand it fully.
