You're saying that people work at walmart because they cannot get another job?
Then in theory, walmart is giving people a job when they would not be able to get one anywhere else.
I'm fairly sure that
-a job with pay and possibly some benefits whether small or not, is alot better than No job, No pay, No Benefits.
Its not that Walmart is their ONLY choice for a job, i said its usually their better option. But don't think its better in the sense that they get a booster shot of wealth: The benefit is very minimal and does not provide anywhere near the amount of what is necessary to even live comfortably.
The people in charge of walmart are not being evil by giving the employees a low amount of pay, thats just business.
Do you really see nothing wrong with making a 90% profit on products, which came from the blood and sweat of people you took advantage of, so that you can live comfortably while they continue suffering? They have a responsibility to these workers who give them so much. I understand it's a business, but they seem to forget that their employees are human beings and not some factory made robots that can be inconsequentially thought of.
If somebody comes up to you and says "i am willing to do this for $5", business-wise you would not then say "no no, i'll give you $10 to do that."
No worker is saying "please please please give me horrible wages". You are mixing up the order. Wal-mart sets the wages because they are the people in control. If a certain population is not willing to work 10 hours for $5 a day than Wal-mart can just relocate and look for others who are desperate enough to abide. Workers have no control of the situation.
Also I'm fairly sure if you owned a business and you wanted to put something on sale, you wouldnt think "I'm not gonna sell this for this price because although it would be good business for my company, it might hurt my competitions sales.
Everyone talks about Wal-mart like its run by some man who plots ways to torture his employees, ways to destroy people's lives.
And to answer your question about do i think that people choose to work at crappy jobs, yes i do. I think as soon as you decide to not go to college, you are choosing to work at a crappy job. I'm sure that over 90% of the people who work at walmart probably didnt go to college, and didnt actually try to get into college.
Don't forget I'm talking mainly about outsourced workers here, such as those found in Latin American countries. The idea of getting a college education is completely out of the question for many of them and can't factor into their decisions.
All I've been trying to say throughout this discussion is that neither you, me, or anybody else would ever choose to be in the position of these workers. You can't just tell yourself that that's business and let it be.
