New Goozex Thread v2.5 -- Promo Details Given Here

Ugh, looks like three bad trades in a row.

First I get matched to the guy who lies about condition and sends me crap. Next I get matched and have to send feedback for a game not received. Now I have a third potential bad trade (game not received) unless the game gets to me by within the next couple days.
Where the heck am I getting all this bad luck?

That sucks, I've only had one bad trade thus far :(

I had a couple of bad ones recently. First Wario for the Wii, which never got sent, then Pokemon Pearl, which also never got sent and now it's 50 points more! Sucks that there are these deadbeat members who abuse the system. I noticed the Pearl guy has already received 2 games.

LoL looking back on some of the people i traded with and their feedback got to love this one feedback one person left for another person

Broken game but works great

if a game is broken how can it work great :)

Is it possible to report these people for mail fraud? The more of us that report them, the more likely USPS will act upon it. You have their address and all when they accept to deliver the game. (Referring to those that keep their games and spend the points)

Mail Fraud Form

Like some of the thigns we put in, we can put other for how the individual/company contacted us, electronic transfer for payment, etc.

My suggestion for those deadbeats.

It's not mail fraud, and you don't get their address unless it's on the package that was shipped.

hey everyone...hope all of you are having a great weekend!

da408boss -- the 7 day notice email is designed to remind those buyers who have forgotten to give feedback. You can report negative feedback anytime after that -- but we recommend you wait a few more days until you receive your 3 day notice. If the system closes the trade on you we can still refund your points if you email us at feedback @ Goozex. com

kapkorn -- I checked into your account and I am going to send a personal email to the seller regarding his negative feedbacks. He has actually been a great trader until recently.

magiic -- we actually still have a very low rate of reported negative feedbacks given overall trading activity for the site. I know this means little to anybody who has experienced a bad trade, but it is something to keep in mind

That said, I make it a responsibility to control the bad members. We have some new ideas to control casual scammers. The difference between a casual and non-casual scammer is that the casual is there to test the system and see what they can do in the short-term. The non-casual scammer is someone who will repeatedly try to setup accounts and fraud the system with fake trades. Though this type is very rare (only a handful since we've started) they cause the most damage in terms of bad Goozex experience. They are in it to basically get me in a bad mood. Since January there has been only one such scammer and we need to find a solution that on one hand isn't an overreaction (one bad apple spoils the whole lot type of thing) and developing something that is effective.

Another point on this is that we are looking at two problems to solve for this type of scammer:
1. remove the opportunity to create a bad trade (very difficult)
2. remove the incentive to scam (much easier, but affects all new signups)

pcktlnt -- mail fraud is one consideration we've been looking into, but it has two challenges:
1. possible legal costs
2. true scammers could care less b/c they use various addresses

There is a third option that requires a pretty big web development project on our part and we need to weigh that against all our other projects.

There are 2 tricks used that you should let Goozex know about if they happen to you:
1. If you get a PM to send to a different address -- please send us that PM if you ever get something like that
2. Early positive feedback when you haven't sent the game

Now this has been a long explanation on scamming. The most important point is that on Goozex, bad trades are generally low. Scammers will always exist. We will always be battling them. Our 100% guarantee policy is hassle free and exists to minimize your personal bad experience.

I am open about this with you all b/c I know that when I look into your trading activity I see 100% of the time a lot of great trades going through and only a few bad trades here and there for some members. There are thousands of members who have never experienced bad trades! It is easier to talk about scammers when they aren't that big of an issue vs. all the positive trades out there. My job is to give you the best trading experience possible and that's why I'm here being open and honest.

In the end, I'm proud of our user base and your support has been amazing and drives us to build the best trading site out there!

that's just the thing I never get high end games, I usually just grab games that are 100-200 points (mostly Dreamcast & Playstation stuff). It's just lame and stupid to screw someone for a mere 100 points.

I'm thinking in my case that it's not so much scamming as it is getting matched with people who just don't care. Of the games I actually receive, many of them are shipped 4 or 5 days after their promised date. These people are eager to make a trade so they can get their points but when it comes to sending THEIR games, it's not a huge hurry or priority.

Interesting. I just recieved a "the game plays perfectly, but the package quality is not as good as expected" for a disc only game.

So far, I haven't had any real problems with the system. I've only been requesting 100-400 point games though, mostly common stuff from current/last gen with a few uncommon PS1 games. Receiving time has been fairly good, with only media mail slowing things down a little.

I can understand the high point games, but these? If you commit to sending, I'd assume that you're prepared to make time to send it out. If you change your mind and want to keep it, you should do the honorable thing and buy another copy. While no money is actually exchanged, it's the same principle as bidding on an item on ebay and then not paying, stating you found a better deal or don't want it anymore.

ugh wtf I just got an email saying I got passed over for Trauma Center (DS) because didn't have enough credit

I'm 10th in line, but I wasn't matched for the past TWO weeks when I did have enough credit yet it never went away as available (which when games get matched they do, even if they don't get confirmed)

btw Gooze, any plans to let us just buy 50 points? I have 200, the game was 250 and I'd happily pay $2.50 to get those 50 points but it seems stupid to pay $5 get 100 and then have 50 extra that I can't use since no game is worth less than 100 points

Goozex, I have an idea to try to prevent scammers.

When you first join, and commit to ship your first game, don't give the seller the points until feedback is left from the buyer. That way, if they're given negative feedback, they can't request to receive a game until they get a positive or zero feedback score.

I shipped that game to someone April 30th for 300 pts. Although the game sounds good in concept, the controls were horrible for me. It could have been my shieldzone protector that affected the gameplay though. I'm hoping the wii version have better controls. Plus, wii versions has one more mission than ds version.

The fixed portion of fees on credit card and Paypal transactions make small charges a losing proposition for most sellers. (That is also a primary reason for buying MS points in blocks greater than the "price" of the average item for sale on the Marketplace.)

I bet this would virtually eliminate scammers. I can usually see a bad trade before it happens. It's not always the case, but when I get matched for a high point game by a new user, the chances of it showing up are pretty low. However, if this would go into effect, new users would be more hesitant to join.

What about somehow restricting how many points can be used right away? If you were successful with something like that a user could use some of the points right away while still offering a bit of deterrent.

The best thing goozex does for the buyer getting scammed is the goozex garuntee. It sucks to be out points waiting out a bad trade, but in the end, all you are out is time. Especially now that they fixed the feature that puts you back in the que.

yes but they already sell just 100 points, if you buy a huge lot at once they give you a bonus but if someone only needs say 400 points they will just buy 200 points twice

they aren't ripping us off at all really unlike Microsoft with their points

edit: actually wouldn't it be better if they get a fee for each transaction to let people just pick how many points they need? then they would only have to do one transaction

the options for those that haven't tried to buy points before are

100 Goozex points $ 5.00
200 Goozex points $ 10.00
500 Goozex points $ 25.00
1050 Goozex points $ 50.00 4.8% discount
2200 Goozex points $ 100.00 9.1% discount
3400 Goozex points $ 150.00 11.8% discount

I agree with the goozex guarantee, but it's not just time that's being lost. Legit games are being sent to these scammers, thus minimizing the pool of available games.

I've really liked using goozex so far, but.....

1. I'm pretty sure I never got my 500 free points that was for CAG members once I completed my first trade.

2. I'm getting all these messages that I dont have enough credit for the games I -really- want, when instead all my points were used on these 100-200 point games that I really wasn't that interested in. Having the option to turn down a trade to save points up would be so usefull...

If there is a game you don't want immediatly, set it to on hold. That will keep your place in line, but won't match you.

One idea I had about that is that perhaps Goozex could implement a system for which you can lock points and a trade credit on a game, so that when you actually get matched for it, the points and credit are already allocated. I'm not sure how hard that would be to code, and it would tie up existing points, but if it could be done eventually, it would help to ensure that people would be able to get games they really want, as well as leave the rest of their queue intact.

I like that idea. Only problem I see is that the value of a game can change. You could reserve a specific number of points for that game and if the value of that game becomes greater than what you reserved, you'll still get passed over.
If I get a game that was supposed to have a manual and it doesn't, what do I do? Leave neutral feedback?
Assuming you requested a Full Package or Disc + Manual, a game received without a manual is labeled as disc only, regardless of whether you got a case with it or not. Therefore, the correct feedback to leave is I requested a "Full Package" or "Disc + Manual", but received a "Disc Only" in the neutral section.

I want to get crackdown. I haven't yet seen a crackdown copy at a store that doesn't include halo 3 beta. So if i want to get crackdown for full package does that mean i will also get halo 3 beta? Can u guys put this option For these kind of games.

You need the disc for the beta. If you were to receive disc only, you would be in the beta.

hey Goozex, I just got a game yesterday that was pretty scratched up (the disc was loose) I contacted the guy and he said when he mailed it the disc was secure so I'm pretty sure it was just lousy handling on the part of the postal service

what should I do?

Well, I was matched for Call of Duty 3 for the PS3 for the second time (the first was never received.) The seller signed up on April 29th, matched with me for the CoD3 and agreed to mail in (after 3 days) on 5/3. I haven't received it and my PM to the seller last weekend went unanswered.

I have the feeling I'm not going to get this game this time either and get put back in line. At least I'll be in the same position in the queue this time -- the first time was before that change and I got put back at the end of the queue -- although for PS3 games that not that big a deal.

Goozex-

I went ahead and left feedback for not receiving the game, how long does it normally take to get my points back? Thanks!

I forgot about that part. In that case, there could be an either/or type selection. In addition to the way you mentioned, you could also have an option that will take the remaining points from your account if you haven't allocated enough points for the game. This shouldn't be too hard to add-on to the base code (I can imagine doing this with a few if/else statements), so hopefully coding this wouldn't be too difficult.

It really is not the sender's fault because aside from packign the inside of the case how bumpy the ride is on the way there is not able to be predicted. It's up in the air really, unless you buy those cases that make sure there are no floaters, but it's at the cost of the sender, which isn't always cheap.

Is there any reason why I'd be getting bumped back in requests? I had 6 turns to go for one of my requests on Friday but now I have 7 turns. I have plenty of points, trade credits, and open spots for trades so I'm not sure why I slipped.

There have been times that I've requested a game that had no prior requests, been first in line, and then checked it later and have it say I'm 1st/2nd instead.

For better or worse, the condition of the disc is not a guarantee with Goozex or it ts transactions. All discs need to be is playable...regardless of it being in mint condition or scratched up in shipment or prior to shipment. As a collector and someone who keeps their stuff in great condition, this is bothersome and my only detraction from Goozex...but all in all, I have received much of my stuff in great, great condition. I've been pleased.

But to answer your question, as long as the disc is still playable, you should give him a positive....though I would mention something in the comments if the scratches are significant.
Sweetness. Just got matched for Puzzle Quest (PSP), and the seller has good feedback. Is it anyone here?
i saw that listed and almost jumped on it, but since i beat it already didnt really see a reason why to grab it. Have fun with it , its a fun game

well am finally going to have a chance to try it out soon, since my sister seems to be finally done using my PS2...

never going to let her borrow it for "few hours" again, I haven't seen it in days

edit:

just got a disc read error :whistle2:(

I really don't feel right leaving negative feedback for the guy (its only his fourth game he's sent) since this is blatantly the postal service's fault

Goozex - looking through my library and requested lists, I thought it would be convenient if I could have the lists organized by system in addition to just alphabetically sorted. Currently it's by alphabetical order, but an option to have it sorted by system and/or alphabetically by system, would be fantastic.

If I wanted to know which Gamecube games I requested, I'd like to see Battalion Wars, Metroid Prime and Super Mario Sunshine under a Gamecube system divider, instead of going by sight and wading through GBA and PS2 games (this would be very helpful for members with long request/library lists.)

Would this be a feasible addition? Or is it already available and I just haven't figured it out?

Thanks!

Hey everyone...sorry for the delay...

GrayWolf323 -- no plans yet to purchase just 50 points -- jmiller's comments on the credit card aspect are spot on

Regarding your scratched game -- if the game plays and works fine then you can leave the 2nd option of positive feedback
If not, then leave broken disc and in the message area please write USPS damaged the game

Thanks Lurknomore for the assist!

toldawg128 -- thanks for the comment...part of what makes Goozex cool to signup is that you do get points up front (at least what we think) -- remember that 99.9% of our new members are solid good people...

encendido5 -- you have a good point -- on paper it shouldn't matter because you get points for the trade, but in reality nobody likes sending a game to a scammer no matter how many points...I think we might start testing a new system soon

eldergamer -- the CAG-2007 coupon gives you 5 Free Trade Credits and 100 Bonus points after your first successful trade.

You can place games you really don't want on hold in your requests and that will help prioritize your request list.

G33 -- that is an excellent comment about reserving points for a game...it is on our list of to do -- one challenge is locking in prices -- if the price drops the seller will be happy and the buyer upset -- if the price increase then the seller will be upset and the buyer happy...

cleaver -- yes, you leave the appropriate neutral feedback

Terminator360 -- requesting Full Package Crackdown does not mean you'll get Halo 3 beta...it means you should expect to get Crackdown + manual + case

rile0161 -- the only reason you'd get pushed back in a queue is if we refunded a buyer who was in line before you.

Caliburn -- filtering the request and library lists are on our to do list...!

This postage hike is killing me! I can buy 100 points for $5 or I can ship a 100 pt game out w/ DC for about $3.00 not including packaging and my time. If I didn't want to just get these games out of my house, I would stop making 100 point games available in my library.

If the package is over 7 ounces ($2.15), just use media mail ($2.13). If you use that paypal postage link, you can get delivery confirmation for both options for cheaper than what postal office charges.

Advice for traders:
To prevent floaters on most games I send out, I cut small squares of bubble wrap (roughly 3"x3") and put them on the center of the disc (bubble side toward the disc). That seems to do a good job of keeping the disc secure, and several people I've sent games to told me they appreciated it. Yes, it's anal. But most of my games are like new, so I'd hate for one to get ruined in transit. The added weight is marginal, and I have enough bubble wrap from my other online purchases to last awhile.

Perhaps CAGs have other ideas, but this was the best I've come up with.

**Update**

We've updated the game details page with a lot of new information...and one tab in particular you all might appreciate!
