While the Switch Lite is revised, it's mainly battery optimization (via optimized parts and all that). Though with a smaller battery, it's kind of a wash in terms of overall battery life when comparing everything. I think the revised based model used the same or similar internals as the Lite, hence the added battery life.

They already did that. It was called the Switch Lite.
But they forgot to make that one portable.

Totally serious. The thing is still too big to fit (comfortably) in a pocket, and without separable joycons, it's really hard to lay flat in a bag. It's less portable AND less functional than the original Switch, the only thing they got right was improving the battery life, but even that was superseded by the revision. The Switch Lite is possibly the stupidest configuration for a portable system I've ever seen. Yes, I'm including the Sega Nomad, at least that didn't have sticks to damage (or that would damage anything else) if you tossed it in a bag.

Being able to be stuck in a pocket is not the definition of being "portable". They never claimed it was pocket sized.

complain all you want about its features a switch at a 200$ price point had to happen. 300 bucks is where an item becomes too expensive to be a kids christmas/birthday present for most people. animal crossing made it worse because if you want to play it, you cant share the same switch, so if thats the case then you save at least 200 bones getting them lites

every girl i know who gave their kid a switch gave them a switch lite

I use a carrying case designed for the switch lite.  It's pretty portable that way.  It also fits in my pocket when just roaming around the house while wearing shorts.  Maybe don't wear skinny jeans ... or jeans in general when trying to carry around a system and it'll be easier.   And it's 100% more comfortable for portable play on the lite than my regular switch.  I still really love the regular switch but no doubt the lite has become my go to for games I am fine just playing portable.  I bought my lite simply so I'd have a second system for when my kids want to use my og switch.

One other thing with the lite that I don't think many seem to know, it doesn't require as high amperage a charger as the regular switch.  So, it'll charge fine off of a 2.1amp usb car adapter using a standard usb c cable while the system is still being played where as the regular switch needing more amps and barely charged even when off with such a low amp charger.

As someone who owned a switch lite before buying a full-size switch, the lite is really best as a gateway drug.

The retail price of the lite doesn't justify all that you lose over the full-size switch. I got mine cheap from a closing GameStop, that was my excuse.
I always saw this situation the opposite way, as I never thought the OG NS was worth it for $300, as it had many features I had ZERO use for. I'm mostly a handheld gamer with 90-95% of my play time happening there, so having a system that hooks to the TV is useless for me. Removable JC's, another swing and a miss, as "N" has had the best controllers, and some of the worst in all of gaming, and these easily go in the worst column for me. I have small hands, and I can't stand to use those detached, as they just aren't good that way, maybe in a pinch?

HD rumble? Another gimmick that has had how much meaningful support? How many ice cubes are in the box? Really? While I wouldn't mind some regular rumble in an handheld, it's something I know will never happen, as battery life is a key feature of any portable, and rumble is never good for that, so I accepted that minus ages ago.

So I never wanted to pay for features I didn't want or need, only because "N" wanted to push gimmicks that to me, really served no useful purpose outside of increasing their profit margin. I would have bought the NS day one for $200, as that's what it was worth to me, as I never saw $300 in the hardware, just $100 extra in "gimmicks", and I'm done paying for unwanted or needed gimmicks. I very much plan to buy a Lite at $200, I just haven't gotten around to it yet, but it is on my wish list.

And to me, honestly, pocketable kinda is the definition of portable. Most guys don't actually carry bags with them everywhere, so if it doesn't fit in a pocket, it generally gets left at home.

In my household we have three Switches total: two I bought my wife and I, which are the Pokemon Sword/Shield LE Switch Lites. The third one is the Animal Crossing NH LE Switch I bought us on release.

Having experience with both models, here is my opinion: if you have multiple family members who want to their own personal experience, the Switch Lites make perfect sense. They're cheaper, so it's easier to afford multiple devices. And you're probably never going to connect them to the TV anyway, so no big loss there.

Yes, the screens are smaller on the Lite. But the resolution is the same, so the pixel density is better. Which means, while the image is smaller, it's also sharper. Not a great selling point, yes, but a nice little bonus.

The controls on the Switch Lite are fantastic. Great d-pad and face buttons. The joycons? My God I hate those things. For the occasional family game they're alright when they're required, but I can't stand the clicky-ness of the face buttons, and no stinkin' d-pad to be found. I play a lot of 2D/sprite games so I live for a d-pad. Yes, there are third party alternatives, but that's not really the point here. The point is, I WAY prefer how an out-of-the-box Lite plays compared to the OG Switch. Obviously that's my personal opinion, I don't present any of this as fact. I realize I'm probably the minority who hates the little Joycon buggers.

Although, I will admit the size of the Lite makes it uncomfortable to play for long play sessions. On that, I would prefer the OG Switch. A "naked" OG Switch feels better in my hands than a Lite. But then it doesn't play better because I hate the lack of d-pad and the tiny, clicky face buttons that I'm left with on the OG Switch. :shrugs:

I ended up getting Skull & Co grip cases for our Lites, which eliminates 90% of my hand cramps; that was my solution to getting the best overall experience. We leave the Animal Crossing Switch docked pretty much all the time as the "family" console.

TL;DR - you can't honestly go wrong with either model Switch, neither is perfect. But, there are 3rd party accessories out there to make whichever model you end up with as close to your personal "perfect" as possible.

i recommend the satisfye grip for the switch which makes it very comfortable to hold and the flip grip for vertical games (donkey kong, pinball fx3, etc)

the joycons are not ideal and i hardly use them beyond handheld play, with that said in the event there is a controller hardware issue it is much easier/convenient to replace and/or repair joycons.

I use a satisfye grip on my switch lite and it was a total comfort game changer

If I remember correctly the Satisfye grip for the Lite wasn't out when I was looking at grip case options. Even still, again it's a matter of preference, but I really like the idea for having a nice, clear, TPU case around my Switch Lite. With the Satisfye grip your Lite is basically exposed to everything. There's no customization options for grips either.

Anyway, not saying I wouldn't try the Satisfye grip if I had the chance or that it's a worse grip option than the Skull & Co one; it wasn't an option at the time and I'm completely satisfied (pun intended) with my S&C grip case to where I'm not looking to drop another $50 on another grip.

I own both grips. The skull & co went back in the box after an hour using the satsifye but I have big hands and never travel with my switch lite.

Yeah It's no where near convenient having to send your system in for replacement/repaired joycons.

This is a pretty long diatribe from someone who apparently does not own a Switch.

It’s because the dude is so fucking self centered and delusional he thinks nintendo is catering to him as a focus group of one.

I can think of two games i play right now where HD rumble is very useful: Mario party and ring fit.

also dude just sucks.

I kind of wish that my Switch Lite had HD Rumble, I was really impressed by it at the event that they held in San Francisco before the original Switch was released.

So if I own a NS, it makes my opinion more true, or not owning one makes it less? Just in the last 2 months, I posted the turn around times for sending in my son's JC's on two separate occasions, and posted it in the proper threads so others needing to do the same would know how long it takes.

So please explain how me stating the JC is "janky" after sending in two sets for poor production problems is anything other than a FACT? Owning and having access are entirely two different things, and I can play an NS any day I choose, and don't, because I don't like the form factor. I also have games I have purchased over the years, for use with my eventual purchase once made. So I'm hardly against the Switch in general, I just didn't see the value in it's original price of what was offered. If others didn't feel the same way, why was the Lite even made? Because not everyone shares the same opinions, or have the same taste. WOW, what a fuck ing concept right?

And my focus group of one. must have had the ear of "N", as they are selling a system I now want VS. one I didn't, so what is the problem exactly? I butt hurt your feelings I don't like the OG Switch, but said I like the Lite and that's still a reason to name call like a 5 year old? That shows me and anyone else here the kind of person you are, so have a nice day and stay safe, as you seem like you may not believe science either, so take care out there(and mask up).

This is textbook anecdotal evidence - it doesn't really make it a fact.

That being said, there have been numerous anecdotes about this. I don't know how widespread it is - and I'm guessing there isn't going to be reliable data on that - but it's certainly a known issue (even if it's just by a vocal minority).

Anyways, you've got just as much right to express your opinion as anyone else here. You don't see the Switch as being worth $300 and others do - I don't see why anyone has a problem with that.

look i dont care what personal beef you guys are going through but please dont try to pretend the widespread, well-documented joycon build quality issue is some kind of mass hysteria, just to win an argument with someone. especially silly after nintendo publicly apologized for it.

"vocal minority......anecdotal" come on please show some respect and do a little more research

It has to be more than a vocal minority given the issue was so big nintendo has to repair them for free. What percentage is obviously up in the air but I would wager for the original switches around 80% if not higher. But now that the lite and revisions been on the market the overall number is probably closer to 25-40% if not lower given that switch lites probably make up a larger share of the market. Regardless nearly all original joycons fail. It's the reason why they are no longer sold and instead the revisions are and why at the time of the revisions coming out the originals quickly clearanced out. I got one for around 10$ at target because of it. Controller is complete shit and its a shame nintendo released it in knowingly faulty condition.

He cited the two times it happened to him and nothing else in his response - that is literally anecdotal evidence. I highlighted the part that was anecdotal.

I know that there have been issues with it - I never disputed that. I know Nintendo apologized for it. Have they ever given numbers on how many Joycons actually required repairs? I suggested it could be a vocal minority (but may have worded it poorly) - my point was that I don't know. I'll also note that a minority is simply less than 50%.

There was nothing else to cite, as the "fact" I referred to was needing to send them in to be repaired, and the "fact" was that I had the receipt to show as much(joy con drift referenced on paperwork). If I'm stating my "truth", why would I offer proof past my son's JC being janky? That was the fact I was stating, not that they offer a broken product to the masses, as that is well documented as others have shown. The posters original issues was that I didn't have the unit, so how could I know the problems of the unit? Hence the name calling and the like.

But I was apparently stating this "fact" to show what exactly, that "N" doesn't make a Janky product they have admitted to being janky? As you see, there are more than enough "kool-aid" drinkers around here to make that argument all day every day(and twice on Sundays). I don't own a system, so I'm lying, were anyone here who knows me, which is a lot, knows my son has a unit, and I've used it more than once to try out his games, or play with him and my wife. I've stated in details why I don't like BotW, and Odyssey(my own opinions), and this all comes from experience with his unit. But the trolls just see "N" hate and grab their pitch forks & torches to mount the defensive, and I expect nothing less, and I mostly only ever get less, so it's all good!

Back on the topic of eShop deals though...

These various pinball game (Jurassic Pinball, Titans Pinball, etc.) seem to keep inching downward.  Are they actually any good though?

Similar question, Nippon Marathon is lowest it's ever been. Seems like a fun/weird party game and saw BeatEmUps talk about it a bit but any feedback from someone who's actually played it with a group or for more than a few minutes?

Lastly, back to the topic of Joy cons... Fight Crab seems like an interesting use of the motion controls... haha https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/fight-crab-switch/

To celebrate Undertale’s 5th anniversary, Groove Coaster has a $60 bundle with the base game and the Undertale DLC pack, which is essential if you like the latter, without a doubt. Available until October 5th.

https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/groove-coaster-wai-wai-party-switch/ (scroll down to bundles)

By the way, these bundles are the cheapest you can get the game and a DLC pack so far. The standalone game discounts haven’t gone down as much so far.

Undertale is also on sale, $9.99 until the 23rd. An essential in every way, I’d say.

It seems so backwards to me for a company to take what could have been a major pinball game with multiple tables or a smaller game with table DLC and just go and release every table as it's own game instead.

I've been playing the Mario remakes on Super Nintendo, and it may be an unpopular opinion, but the second game is still my favorite.

Nintendo has a secret direct at 7am PDT 9/17. There is no info about what will be shown, but speculation is that it will be new games from third parties, and not anything first party related, like the one we got a few weeks ago.

You can always create a Japanese account and download the Nintendo Online Super Famicom application.
I would rather have it in english over moon runes and I'm also not interested in doing all that round about work for different region account stuff. I appreciate the reply nonetheless.

Okay, list the games.

There is no speculation that it will be about games from third parties when they came out and said that's what it will be.

We missed out on some great Japanese JRPGs on the SNES because they didn't want to localize them. It's a shame that Nintendo is so swift and vigilant in cracking down on emulation sites, because some of the only ways to play really great old Japanese games in english is through emulation.

Any other regions besides Japan that it's worth creating an account for the NSO games?  Like anything unique to europe?   I'm not a subscriber yet, but planning to do it in the next month.

They do sell them in bundles too but if pay attention to their sales, they only ever discount 2/3 tables in any one collection at a time and the collection is always more expensive than buying them separately. I.e. they do have bundled versions but make you pay a premium to have them as a single game.

Apparently the port of Mario Sunshine has switched the camera control to not be inverted, even though it was inverted in the GC release, and there's no menu option to swap it. That is seriously going to mess me up.
