One downside, for me personally, is I'm not a fan of these Game-Key card physical boxes. Starting to see it confirmed with several titles already. You still get the benefit of being able to sell or trade your game later which is nice. It's good that they got rid of the "code-in-a-box". But half of the appeal of current Nintendo is the physical collection aspect. It's a different type of investment in that way.

I keep seeing people say that they're going to change to full-digital for this system. Then you've got Mario Kart pushing us in that direction too. But I'm not tryin to digitally collect or build a library on a device with 256gb of system storage.

Let's be honest, Nintendo should charge at least $100 for first party games. The polished, premium experience their games deliver on day 1 is worth at least twice as much as anything Sony or Microsoft releases in a half baked state. Historic IPs with tremendous legacies deserve higher prices to ensure future releases can meet player expectations.

That's because many of Nintendo's developers have been with them for 30+ years. Iwata took a 50% pay cut to help pay for employee salaries. You'll never see a western CEO do that for their employees. In fact it's the people who make the games we love that get layed off while the CEO's get fat checks and bonuses. The developers who made the games we loved and grew up from Activision, Blizzard, Bioware, are no longer there.

I'm impressed that Cyberpunk UE is shipping complete on a 64GB cart. Seems like Square and Capcom aren't interested in eating the cost of carts.

I was just thinking how small 256 GB of storage is while they were boasting about it being 8x more than Switch.

I think you just have to hope that eventually the cost of Switch 2 cart will go down. It is really dumb, if Square Enix charge extra $10 for a full game on cart everyone is happy. Gamers get what the want, SE make extra profit from $10 minus cost of cart.

Main line ones that are truly polished sure, but not every first party game from Nintendo has been a banger that is polished, they make plenty of turds too.

2 hour battery was more or less the same as the OG 3DS. With the 3DS you had other third party options; a slightly better battery, a much better battery that made the system 30 percent thicker, or a charging grip. With the Switch you can always just play docked.

Battery life... honestly just doesn't seem like as limiting of a factor for me. It seems the need to plug in to charge devices is a very common thing due to people having cell phones, tablets and laptops these days. Plus you can get portable battery banks too.

The price of the express SD cards (or whatever they are) is kinda crazy but if games continue to be on physical carts, it's not a huge issue for me. And on the plus side, it sounds like they at least got much faster storage.

Ok, are people just assuming this? Because I can't find any statement from Nintendo that this is the case. It's not on that website either.

With 3d on and wifi I'm guessing? Because I have a launch 3ds and it's battery was definitely not that bad normally.

Yeah typically play docked as well except on my trip to work. During nice weather I would play my switch or other handhelds to pass the time.

The more I think about it, I'm really starting to get annoyed with these "upgrade packs" too. Microsoft has been setting the industry standard with Smart Delivery for five years. and now you've still got Nintendo over here nickle and diming people with their draconian rules and logic in regards to games in new online environments / eshops yet again. They just can't get out of the way with this shit. You could simply give everyone the best version of their game. Like Sony has tried to do (with free PS5 digital upgrades from PS4 discs) to follow suit with Xbox.

Instead it is another example of 'taking something away' and attempting to lock it behind a paywall. In this case, with the purpose of selling more Online Memberships.

That there isn't a Metroid release date yet, and that additional similar shenanigans could ensue with the NSW 1-2 versions has me irritated.

They didn’t develop that game card tech to not extract maximum value out of us, shit, non resellable confirmed. On the other hand, that would be such a mess to have mountains of unusable game carts out there, that only work for the system or account originally tied to, Nintendo wouldn’t be stupid enough to create that PR nightmare, would they?

No way man, 2 hours of battery life seems excessively short. (that's what she said). I'm still rocking a Samsung S21 Ultra. I specifically went with the Ultra for the bigger screen and bigger battery. I can easily last through the whole day without needing to charge even when gaming heavily on it. I'm dropping maybe 10% of battery per hour. I also don't remember having any battery issues with my ipad.

According to google the average battery life of a tablet or laptop is 3-10 hours. The nintendo 3DS was 3-6 hours.

I'm not saying it's acceptable, I just said it doesn't seem like as big of a deal given how much more accessible power sources/battery bags are these days.

Its not like the days of trying to use your Game Boy in a car and needing to bring batteries or having a cig lighter power adapter, or when I first took my fat DS on flight and had to pre charge it at home before we left for the airport since there weren't seats in the terminals or on the planes themselves with power outlets.

Thats what I'm saying bro. These people don't get it because they are so used to mediocrity that it's brainrotted them. Name another company that actually takes care of making an actual good game to play.

I used to watch Marques Brownlee for tech stuff back in the day. It looks like Nintendo had a preview event so chances are one of your favorite youtubers probably got a chance to review it.

Of course we are talking about the mainline games. Not the sports titles, the millions of Mario Parties and the useless spinoffs like the Mario and Luigi series.

Now that I think about it some more, I think I will get the $350 system and $80 for Mario Kart World. I got enough mileage from Mario Kart that it is worth the extra $30 to have it on cart.

All this discussion of $80 games reminds me of when Phantasy Star for the Master System released at $100. I just looked it up and $100 in 1987 is worth $280 today.

17min. of Prime 4 gameplay footage in 4K60fps

I wonder how much adventure vs FPS this game will be. I really preferred Prime 1 and 2 since they were more adventure focused vs Prime 3, which felt more... wanna-be FPS focused so I'm hoping for more adventure focused. Visually, very impressive vs what they showed last week but guessing this was NS2 4K mode vs last week was prob OG NS? Gameplay wise, it was hard to tell but the guy playing might have just sucked.

I will say, the way the Joy-Cons seamlessly went between controller to mouse though, was super cool but I can't see it being practical since you'd need a table or something in front of to play the mouse mode.

All I want to know is did they bring back the Wii sensor bar to make light-gun-style games feasible?

If not I literally see no reason to buy one unless it goes on sale for under $200, which probably won’t happen.

Don’t really care about the price of the games as my gamefly subscription is payed up until 2027 and I haven’t paid full price for a game in over a decade anyway, and $450 for the console itself is fine I guess in these times of tariffs and inflation. But charging for a glorified tech demo / interactive instruction manual is messed up. This is the company that gave us legendary pack-in games for free like Mario Bros, Tetris and Wii Sports, but they really couldn’t eat the $6 this time and throw in this dumb not-a-game for free? Kind of shows you they’re really worried that the Switch 2 won’t even come close to the OG Switch sales so they are nickel and diming wherever they can.

The $20-30 upgrade path for the Switch 1 games is also messed up. I mean, don’t they want people transitioning to their new hardware asap? What better way to do that than throwing in some free or cheap incentives for the games they already own? But asking for $30 for Kirby dlc that’s going to certainly be just a couple hours of content is, again, messed up.

MK World looks neat. They really had no other choice but a soft reboot like this since MK8 was the definitive MK experience and probably could not be easily topped by a traditional sequel. I expect they will do something similar with Smash (open-world, maybe a transition to 3D arena fighting) because there is not much else that can be done with the existing formula.

I’ve been watching YouTube videos analyzing every bit of MK World info, and it looks like we’re getting 29 tracks but with variations based on weather and time of day. This was inferred from looking at the official map on Nintendo’s site, although we can assume there is a Rainbow Road somewhere in the sky that’s accessible in the late game and that wouldn’t be shown on the map. This would bring the total to a nice, even 30 if true. Not a great amount- the original MK8 had 32 tracks iirc… though no variations existed aside from mirror mode. It looks like there are battle tracks hidden on the map though if you look closely. There is an area by Bowser’s castle that looks suspiciously like the round lava battle level from N64. Makes sense to put these battle levels in there as side content in the open world.

51 characters spotted so far. That’s a massive amount. Makes me sad that the Koopalings seem to be absent. Morton Koopa was my main since the Wii U game first released and I even got him as a tattoo and named my black lab after him. No Diddy or Funky either, but these omissions are probably related to DK’s weird and unnecessary redesign. Kamek seems to be gone too but now he is an item, though it’s unclear what he does (my guess is that he swaps your position with another racer, which has the potential to be as enjoyably frustrating as the blue shell or pre-nerf lightning bolt). Bizarre and obscure enemies and characters like the bat, snowman and skeletal fish are now playable though they seem to have minimal animations and no costume options, so they are probably the equivalent of collectibles that you can find in the open world.

The costume thing is odd. It seems the costumes are thematically related to the courses you are currently driving on, which is interesting. They even change the stunts you perform and it’s not just the popular main characters who have access to them, as Lakitus and even Koopa Troopa were spotted in different costumes. This kind of stuff makes my Nintendo fanboy heart swell …. but it seems a bit pointless? Like, I can’t imagine the amount of work that went into creating all these costumes and alternate stunts with such a huge roster. Maybe they are using some sort of AI tool, I guess. The attention to detail and world-building is insane tbh. The way tires look when driving in the rain or sand, the way the Koopa Troopas and Toads driving cars in traffic on the road look at you and react to you, seeing other track landmarks off in the distance, the facial expressions on the characters down to even each eyebrow being animated separately… Crazy stuff. But again, dunno if I would’ve just preferred more tracks instead of this kind of detail. Why does every game need to be open world? I just want to race online against people like I have been doing in MK8 for almost ten years. I’m sure that’s an option here too, but with just 29-30 tracks instead of MK8’s 96 tracks, so that’s kind of a bummer. TBH if they just went the Smash Ultimate route and made a MK9 with every track and character in series history along with maybe a handful of new additions, I would’ve been happy.

One other thing that I found interesting is that a lot of the retro tracks in World like Dino Jungle and the Airship were at one point expected to be in MK8’s booster pack as their audio data were datamined early on. So at some point they were brought over to World instead and replaced with stuff like Daisy Circuit and Moonview Highway in the DLC. Dunno what this indicates besides maybe the DLC and World were being developed at the same time by the same team. This also explains why so many of the tracks in the booster pack had traffic, as that’s seemingly a big part of World.

Well that’s my autistic wall of text about mario kart. Certainly looks fun and it’s my favorite game series of all time, but I’ll wait. Nintendo is trying to cultivate crippling fomo in people by saying the Mario Kart bundle is limited, but I doubt that will be the case. Mario Kart console bundles have been their bread and butter since the Wii days. Gonna hit my backlog for the next couple of years, play Metroid Prime 4 on my old Switch along with whatever other interesting games it’ll still get, and maybe wait for an OLED switch 2 or some cool limited edition version. And there’s always the possibility this thing will bomb- especially in this current economy and with how deranged the game industry is right now- so there could be a price drop or better bundles down the road like there were with the Wii U and 3DS.

Hopefully that means the game key cards can be rented out.

I think the upgrade path they've done is also messed up. I'm sure most people just want Zelda with better resolution and framerate, but are forced to pay for the other crap. In general it seems everyone wants that from Switch 1 games, but some are forced paid upgrades. It is a mess.

I've felt the Mario Kart roster had been bloated already with copy characters like the babies and gold variants, and common baddies, so now this roster seems even more bloated to me.

Honestly at this point if they want to keep expanding the roster for Mario Kart, they need to abandon “Mario” Kart and make Super Smash Kart or something, just make it a general Nintendo character crossover.

No reason to kill an established brand. I think people will be able to get over the fact that Mario Kart would have other non-Mario characters in it pretty quickly.

I won't rehash all that's been said, but I'm certainly not sold on a Switch 2. I'll save up for one at Christmas to be "best Uncle" again, assuming they're not scalped to hell and back and I'm still gainfully employed.

Between shitty, fake priced GPUs and consoles being less and less exciting, I guess I am actually moving into play all my old shit phase. Modding Skyrim again and it's never been easier.

Saw Advanced Wars is $18 off at best Buy, first time i ever saw a discount I think. Not available within 250 miles of me, and also not available for shipping. yeesh
For what it's worth, it shows up as available for shipping for me. Might be because of my plus membership or location but could be worth another look

I ended up getting a used copy of Advance Wars 1&2 through Gamefly for $39.99 which ended up $44.77 after tax, shipping, and with a discount code added on which shaved a couple bucks off.

That was the best deal I've seen out side of some of these rare sightings for less. I was happy not to have to chase down a copy anymore. Though had I just opted to go digital, I wouldn't probably own it since I still haven't played it. I still have my GBA copies of those games. Pushing myself more digital next gen seems like a wise way to go. I might still buy a few key titles physical (not the game key card things where it's a download anyway)... but I wouldn't make so many purchases due to limited stock.

Statement from Nintendo: Statement from Nintendo: Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.

Price may have to go up for the Switch 2.

I feel like, going digital makes even more sense with these tariffs if we can keep on keeping on with our foreign eshop accounts. My oldest son has one for buying stuff early in Australia. I have a japan one because I wanted to play DQ X (nicely it was free for quite a lot of content), get the JP versons of the GB/NES/SNES apps, check out game demos, as well as do the game trials. If say, Mexico or Canada makes more sense... I could spin up a new account pretty easily. So, it might be possible to kind of work around all of this, spend a few bucks less even, and avoid most of the hit this is going to put on the backs of regular amercians. All so the government makes a lot more money to give out to their buddies in contracts. No one is going to build a factory to make this stuff here. It'll cost 2x or more to do that and years before it goes online. That's why even Blueray discs are pressed in Mexico. It makes more sense to do it where the labor is cheap.

Well that's depressing. $500 for the bundle is the max I'm willing to pay. If they raise the price then I'll just have to wait.
