In addition to picking up Outlaw Volleyball, I bought this MP3 player for GBA at Best Buy for $19.99 - GGC:

http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=6&products_id=2483&

It's not listed on the BB site as far as I can tell. This was selling for as much as $99, then a couple of months later at $59.99 price point. I guess they're trying to get rid of them.

For $15 you get a standalone MP3 player that can be hooked up to your GBA or SP with some karaoke/voice recording features, plus a 32 MB Compact Flash and headphones. All in all a good find. YMMV of course.

damn, that's pretty cool. would it plug in well to a GBA SP?

I just plugged it into my SP and it seems to work fine. It doesn't interfere with normal operation; it just adds like a half inch thickness to the back of the SP.

I don't have a card reader to copy MP3s to the flash card, but it comes with a plug to record analog off stereo. I'm going to mess around with it first and tell you how it sounds.

Wow thanks! Very interested in this. I already carry a GBA and CD player with me, so if that can be reduced to just GBA SP with this item that would be great! Let us know how it plays!

Wow, there is a huge price difference in the Lik-Sang and BestBuy ones!

Thanks for posting!

No prob. I just recorded a couple of songs ranging from rap to J-pop onto the memory card through analog. It takes some patience to adjust volume to take out the hiss. However its a snap to record and playback. You'll notice a slight loading time though when going into recording mode.

Overall the sound quality is decent, with some crackles. I didn't really tweak the recording volume that much though (and also using the headphones that came with it). Of course if you have a Compact Flash reader and a larger capacity card lying around you'll get better quality and a lot more mileage out of the Jukebox. I drive around a lot and unfortunately get lost a bit, so I'm looking forward to using this as a voice recorder.

For $14.99 you can't go wrong. I don't think there's any MP3/voice recorder combo at that price anywhere. Much less that has Gameboy Advance stamped on the front. :)

CompUSA has these MP3 player headphones for 19.99. Pretty goofy looking but has 128 MBs of space...but if one of the speakers goes dead its useless. Just if someones looking for a cheap MP3 player deal outside of the GBA one.

Good deal on the GBA one though!

I got an open box one that was 18 bucks, and they wouldn't let me use the GGC on it :( That's sooooo lame, I got a used one that actually costs more than a new one (after GGC of course)!!!!!!! Bleh. I'm worried mine might be defective though, because I get *a lot* of white noise/static whenever I go to recording mode. Is that happening for you Magilacudy?? Even when there's no cord in any of the ports, still so much noise in Rec mode! And just as much w/ cords in. Should I return it? o_O

I may return mine. I was about to ask about the quality everyone else is experiencing. I did a voice memo, and it was really bad, but I figured that is more of a gimmicky, not really important thing. I transferred some of my mp3s to the card, though, and the playback is terrible -- a lot of warbling, skipping, and noise. I haven't tried the 2nd one yet.

Anyone else want to post their experiences?

Oh, if you're getting the same thing Guessed, I suppose it must be universal. I think I'm just going to keep it since the price is right ^^' I'm surprised this is actually a Nintendo licensed product, though. What kind of 'seal of quality' is that stamp supposed to represent anyway? I feel really sorry for the people who shelled out 100 bucks for this :( BTW, did you try adjusting microphone sensitivity and input recording lvl in the options? After I messed around w/ both, the quality went up a notch, but still nothing to rival the dedicated products in the market.

*EDIT*: Wow, I just tried the player stand alone. It sounds *WAY* diff. than when it's connected to GBA. It has a diff. sound from original source, though. More tinny/metallic, but it's a small price to pay! TRY IT NOW!

When you record, or playback, check to see the smiley face in the lower right corner's mouth is open. If it's mouth has an X on it that means you're in karoake mode. The player removes the voice or at least the higher freqs which makes the playback really crappy. Make sure the plug is tight on both ends of the recording connection too, its kind of finicky. You might have to twist it to get the optimum quality. I haven't got any skipping at all, that's strange.

Also, for the love of God, use different headphones. Trust me you'll hear the difference.

Both of the units I bought behave exactly the same, they snap, warble, and pop, and the playback is roughly 3/4 speed. The mp3s were recorded on my computer and copied to the card. Playback from the card on the pc is fine. I tried swapping out the batteries, but that didn't help. I have tried playback both in and outside the GBA, but that didn't help. Did I get 2 equally defective units? Tomorrow I am going to call the customer service number written on the instructions. Are the other people who got these having similar issues, or is it just me?
