that'd be the final nail in the coffin
Yeah, I've never understood why "N" has never added trophies/achievements. Well, that's not correct, I understood it, it just never made much sense. They never added it, as they didn't come up with the concept, and like so many other things they do, without their own stamp, or "N" spin, they want nothing to do with it.That's ironic (or fitting) when you have two Trophy comments as your profile signature.
I don't know how this is bad, though. If people don't want it they can just turn off notifications and don't bother with them. It doesn't affect them that way, then. But those of us who do like a trophy system can enjoy our games even more. Having it won't affect you, so being against it is just being selfish.
Yeah, 100% agree with what you said. I just hope they try and put their own spin on an achievement system so they can bring it over. Because I agree that Nintendo won't have the system unless they can try their own version of it.Yeah, I've never understood why "N" has never added trophies/achievements. This is another area where it could and would help their 3rd party situation, and yet they are blind to the wants of a certain set of consumers who like this feature. I'm not personally a fan of the system, but it's like voice chat, youtube, or anything else. If you like and want it, use it, if you don't, shut it off and never bother with it.
It's all about choices and offering comparable features at a comparable price to competition in your same market. But when you live in a bubble, you'll never worry, or care about offering the most feature rich device you can, it's still the same "we know best" attitude that they've always had.
Yep even if you don't care about trophies/achievements there is a huge number of players who do so it's definitely hurting sales for them not to have a system in place. That's ironic (or fitting) when you have two Trophy comments as your profile signature.

I have exactly the same items preordered that you do, and I'm not in a rush for an SD card. I'm planning to wait until either my digital purchases (mostly VC) and/or save files force my hand.Ugh, I was thinking about my pre-order last night and I'm starting off with the console, zelda, pro controller, and hori screen protector and I'm just thinking about how much that is to just to get started. What's the consensus on storage, is a sd-card pretty much mandatory (even for physical purchases)?
I hate to assume, so I'll ask - are you an older gamer? I know several gamers now(my nephews and nieces age) who have gamed on consoles only with achievement/trophy systems in place. These teens/college gamers have grown up on those systems and that's "the norm" for them. Sure, they've played MarioKart on the Wii a few times. But their general memory of the Wii is the gaming system that had motion controls and just didn't control good. Yes, even teens and my 9 year old cousin know Wii controls in general, are imprecise. That's why the system remains in their mom's closet and they never even bothered with the Wii U to an extent.Just play theing games and beat the
ing games. Like the good old days.
I completely agree. Based on many ideals posted like that, why have more than 1 joystick, and one button. LOLtl;dr Gaming comprises over 40+ years of goodness, therefore we have a varied range of peeps from teens to grandpas. So your version of gaming isn't the only "proper" way everyone should play.
Yeah why doesn't Sony and MS make a Gamepad for the PS4 and X1? I enjoy the Gamepad. I don't see why I shouldn't have the choice to enjoy a touchscreen controller on the PS4 if I so choose.I completely agree. Based on many ideals posted like that, why have more than 1 joystick, and one button. LOL
Gameplay is still key, but by not offering a system that can appeal to the greatest audience just seems a dim view on the audience your trying to reach to begin with. I personally never chat on system unless it was with friends, but I don't take a blind view to those who like or enjoy it. When I wanted to use it, I turned it on, when I didn't, I turned it off.
It's like censorship in this country, if you don't like something, don't watch or view it, if some one else does like it, why should they not be allowed to have the choice?
...and on and on and on and on it goes. The list of choices I don't have is endless. All of these companies are not allowing us to have choice!!!!! IT's censorship. It's unconstitutional. We need to rise up!!!

Why doesn't EA make a version of Battlefield for the Switch? I would enjoy it. I don't see why choice is bad.
Why doesn't Overwatch have gyro aiming on the PS4? I enjoy gyro aiming. It is much smoother than analog sticks. I don't see why I shouldn't have a choice to use gyro aiming.

I read that earlier, nothing we didn't already know was said which is what's annoying about all this. Here's a NS interview with a few of "N" creative types.....

That No Man's Sky marketing approach. LolI read that earlier, nothing we didn't already know was said which is what's annoying about all this.
3 weeks away & they won't clarify half the shit about this machine. I must admit, it's starting to get to me.
Well NMS looked like shit to begin with, dunno why fools thought that somehow the retail copy would be better than the hours of gameplay we had already seen. That No Man's Sky marketing approach. Lol

Seriously but forums fans were saying all that shit would be true. To just trust in Sean. Lol. Trust a person they've never met. Lol. I'm a gamer, and have always been and we are some gullibleWell NMS looked like shit to begin with, dunno why fools thought that somehow the retail copy would be better than the hours of gameplay we had already seen.
I remember the infamous IGN interview where they show you walking into some pod. Talking to an alien then walking out and shooting a few drones & Sean Murray says "well we just showed you how.." and he lists off about 10 things that he claimed the game did and apparently we just had seen & I had to go back and watch it again just to see if I had missed it... LOL
You know you can turn those notifications off, right?Personally not a fan of trophies on other systems. I don't like the trophy notifications that pop up on the screen on on other systems. I don't like getting trophies for breathing or turning on the system or pressing the trigger. I also often feel like the trophies take you out of games or don't belong within the gameworld. They are just slapped in there.
Nigga, you just went full retard. Never go full retard.Yeah why doesn't Sony and MS make a Gamepad for the PS4 and X1? I enjoy the Gamepad. I don't see why I shouldn't have the choice to enjoy a touchscreen controller on the PS4 if I so choose.

that was sarcasm btw in case it wasn't clear.
It was more than clear. He still went full retard. It was clear, just right over most heads apparently.
Like I said, that's because you're a selfish son of a dog. Having them wouldn't affect you if you don't want it to. You could just turn their notifications off. But you rather others not have it even though you could do this? Now I hope Nintendo has a system where it's really in your face and you can't turn notifications off. Just so I can laugh at your face later on.Ironic? They actually match my viewpoint spot on.
Nintendo doesn't cater to a lot of demographics, I just hope this remains one of them.
I wouldn't say it's only younger gamers who care about this system. I'm 30 years old. I've been gaming since I got a Genny with Sonic the Hedgehog. I didn't grew up with the achievement system in place, but I also care about it. I like what it adds to games, how it gives them an extra completionist element to them. I would reckon a lot of older gamers also care about it judging by the comments online, and from the podcasts I view.I hate to assume, so I'll ask - are you an older gamer? I know several gamers now(my nephews and nieces age) who have gamed on consoles only with achievement/trophy systems in place. I know I'm starting to get a little off-topic, so I'll just end it saying your comment comes off as a "back in my day, THIS is how we gamed properly." I could retort that with an equally narrow-minded comment that we should just be playing games via arcades like the good ol days, before we sat on our asses. But I don't wanna be an old get-off-my-lawn geezer and show my age

Preach.Fans who just shout from the mountain tops their holier-than-thou attitude towards meta-gaming systems just baffles me. Seriously.
You can literally turn off achievement/trophy notifications if you don't like them. Then it's like they are not there. There are so many different ways to play games now. If someone finds enjoyment in a meta-game system, don't put them down. It makes you look stupid.
Achievement systems are everywhere - Xbox, PSN, Android, iOS, Newgrounds, Kongregate. There's a reason for that - people like them. If Nintendo wants to be stubborn, they can exclude a unified system, but they will lose sales. Who knows how many - maybe not much, but it's easy money they are leaving on the table. So by all means, if you want Nintendo to have one less standard feature - continue your noble endeavors I guess.
To be completely honest, I can point to a few games in the past decade I considered buying for either an Xbox system or a Wii system and I chose the former for the achievements. So I can definitely say they've lost sales from me.Fans who just shout from the mountain tops their holier-than-thou attitude towards meta-gaming systems just baffles me. Seriously.

Achievement hunters trying to have the highest achievement on XBL and PSN is a huge thing.Fans who just shout from the mountain tops their holier-than-thou attitude towards meta-gaming systems just baffles me. Seriously.

I wonder if you (or someone else who has chipped in) could further explain the discouragement you're talking about here. I'm having a hard time understanding it. Whenever I see fun-looking trophies, I go for them. If they look dumb I just ignore them. I don't get why anyone would be discouraged by an achievement system. Granted, I play single player games almost exclusively, so I never really see my trophy profile compared to anyone else's. Do people get dickish about it or something? Is it a mark of shame in the community not to have a bunch of platinum trophies?I voted no to achievements. I don't actually mind them but I hate the whole gamer score concept as it discourages new players or convinces them to play games for all the wrong reasons. It's also discouraging having a huge backlog of games and looking at the trophies app and seeing how horrible I am because I've installed a bunch of games but never got around to playing them all or found some of them not fun experiences.
That said, I actually like in game achievement systems (tied to nothing but the game). I had a lot of fun getting 100% on the old gta games. I did it as just something else to do in games I loved rather than because it affected my completion percentage or whatever.
So a big no to online style modern achievements.
Just because something has become standard doesn't necessarily mean it's good, though. I hate the idea that so many games have a list of "here's how to play the game" and you are given a numerical score based on whether or not you play the game that way. In-game achievements makes sense for certain games, but having them tied to an online account is unnecessary. We live in a time where there are now so many different types of games and gamers, assigning some arbitrary ranking system for each game like that seems incredibly dated, and only encourages destructive elitist "true gamer" mentalities. People actually buy and play certain games because they have easy achievements to increase their score. That's incredibly toxic and damaging to the online marketplace.
I think both of you are delusional regarding trophies. I never see anyone telling someone else to 'git gud' if they don't have a 1000 Gamerscore/Platinum Trophy on a game. You people are seeing something that doesn't exist.I voted no to achievements. I never see anyone be dickish about them. These people are complaining about something that doesn't exist, or that maybe only a very small, minuscule minority of gamers engage in.I wonder if you (or someone else who has chipped in) could further explain the discouragement you're talking about here. I'm having a hard time understanding it. Whenever I see fun-looking trophies, I go for them. If they look dumb I just ignore them. Are we both making the same thing up then? Or are you just ignoring something that doesn't support your argument? There's both negatives and positives to an achievement system, ignoring that is silly and lessens the chance of creating a system that's best for everyone.I think both of you are delusional regarding trophies. I never see anyone telling someone else to 'git gud' if they don't have a 1000 Gamerscore/Platinum Trophy on a game. You people are seeing something that doesn't exist.
I also don't see how they make people play games 'in the wrong way'. Most people play games normally, but once they beat them they hunt for the achievements they didn't get. That seems 'normal' for me.
But even if there are some who go into the games with the trophies in mind and play the games in a certain way in order to unlock them first- who thecares? It's their prerogative how they want to play the games. You shouldn't care how others game and find enjoyment with.
For example, I do find it stupid that there are some who buy bad games just for the achievements and trophies. That to me is stupid. But that's their prerogative if they want to waste their time playing those games for the score. It's their life. One shouldn't give a crap about how others find spend their time and play their games.

But regardless, I don't care if there is a trophy system as long as you able to be disable it, and there's no "gamerscore" ranking garbage tied to it. That is what I hate.
Preach.
Who the hell do you hang out with or talk to? Ive yet to ever had anyone act like this about gamer scores or anything like that. Are we both making the same thing up then? Or are you just ignoring something that doesn't support your argument? My issue is the effect an achievement system has on the marketplace. Nintendo is growing an incredible indie scene with tons of original and innovative content. Throwing in an arbitrary system that measures gamers by their "scores" only serves to hinder this and limit creators for fear of their game not being bought because it won't increase someone's score. There are people who complained when "That Dragon, Cancer" didn't have achievements for Pete's sake - and that's scary.
I'm an openminded dude. When you say something that makes sense, even if I don't agree with it I will see your side. The thing is you're bringing up a negative that doesn't exist. I've never seen anyone talk about their score in the way you and the other dude said. You're complaining about something that doesn't happen. This is why I'm ignoring your point. There is no point when you bring that up.Are we both making the same thing up then? Or are you just ignoring something that doesn't support your argument? There's both negatives and positives to an achievement system, ignoring that is silly and lessens the chance of creating a system that's best for everyone.

You just confirmed what I said by disagreeing with it, though.Who the hell do you hang out with or talk to? Ive yet to ever had anyone act like this about gamer scores or anything like that.
If anything they add value to games because it gives you a goal to reach and play the game more.
Yeah, if I don't care no one else should either.Gamerscore/Achievements are whatever. Like seriously who cares. I play games on like nine different devices anyways.
You're kind of like a Gamerscore.Yeah, if I don't care no one else shouldn't either.
Anyways, you completely ignored my bet. You like to talk the talk, but you won't walk the walk. What's the problem, McFly? Chicken?
Yeah, if I don't care no one else shouldn't either.
Yeah, your comments have already said plenty about yours. You're a selfish son-of-a-bitch.Double negative aside, that statement speaks volumes about your character.
