Nintendo Wi-Fi USB...at Best Buy?

Tokeilos

CAGiversary!
Hey guys!

I thought the NinWiFi USB Adapter would only be sold at Nintendo's online store (aside from Play-Asia and Lik-Sang if you want to import it)...but apparently not. I received next week's circular (Washington Post) for Best Buy and it's pictured in there for $39 and even on their website here. Hmmm...

Wow good thing I didnt buy it online. I will defintely take advantage of this to get one at my local best buy witht he coupon. Man good thing I waited. HOpe to see some of you guys online in Mario Kart or Animal Crossing. I thought about a router, but I'll need this to play on my college campus since they use VPN.

Yes i can confirm that this is indeed at Best Buy B&M stores.
$39.99 or $29.99 w/ coupon.

If i'm not mistaken this will be used for the "Nintendo Revolution" online play also.

Yeah, if purchasing in store, you can get them now. As far as working with the Revolution, yep, it'll work with it as well. :) I just wonder why Nintendo decided to make it available at a B&M and somewhere else online...perhaps because not as many people know about buying directly from Nintendo's website. But why BB and not GameStop or EB?

Sweet! Granted I'm fortuneate enough to be able to make my way to the Nintendo World Store rather easily but with the BB coupon I'll be saving money. Thanks for the heads up OP.

Hey, was just going to post this.

It is also on Best Buy's web site:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7621996&type=product&id=1130985379274

(edit - oops, sorry OP just noticed you linked the web page as well, though I did just notice there is a 10% off accessories link there - wonder if that can be combined with the coupon? Second edit - never mind, that is 10% off when you buy video game hardware... Suckage...)

What coupon are you using to make it $30? One of those Xbox360 launch ones? The one I printed says any video game $29.99 or over. Does it work on accessories as well, or is there another?

Still, though, $30 is still too rich for me. I was hoping, after seeing it at Best Buy, that places like EB or Gamerush would carry it. Then I could use my credit instead of cash - a better deal even at $40 ($20 or so original out of pocket expense). But I might just bite on the Best Buy option if I can get this coupon to work. I am going on a business trip in about 2 weeks and wanted to play AC online with my daughter. The hotel I stay at has free high-speed internet, but no wireless, so I can use my laptop with this dealie. Will be pretty cool to spend time with her in our AC towns from 2500 miles away :D.

I saw them too, in addition to a new shipment of Animal Crossing that came in today. I picked up Animal Crossing and will consider the USB adapter, ALTHOUGH there is an unencrypted network in my apt. building that I can mooch off of...hmm...decisions decisions...I'd rather buy a 360 controller for my emulation.
If you dont want to spend $39.99, Comp USA has a wifi USB adapter for $2.99 after rebate.
I'm pretty sure those are totally different from the Nintendo USB wifi adapters, which are access points specifically for Nintendo DSs. I think regular wifi adapters just allow your computer to be a client (have access) to a wifi network, which won't help your DS get on the network without some weird network sharing workaround.

just curious, if anyone has found this in store what section are they finding it in. are they putting it with the video games or in the computer accessories section?
its just too bad there isnt any online games besides

Mario kart and animal crossing
There's also Tony Hawk Sk8land which I hear is pretty good.

Just picked on up for $30 a/c, saw it in the ads and ran down there, works really nice! It was above the DS games at my Best Buy.

i just printed out the coupon ofr $10 off but i only have 1 quick question.

both coupons take up the whole page. will best buy still honor printed coupons?

thanks

Just to muddy the waters a bit, here's a very in-depth review of Datel's WiFi Max, which works with both PSP and DS.

http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=5778

Maxconsole links to Divineo as the place to buy it ($50 plus shipping), but screw that. You can pre-order it from Play-Asia for about $39 shipped (ships this month).

Since it's Datel, I imagine it'll make it onto Best Buy's shelves...eventually...but I doubt you'd save much, if anything, by waiting.

I have a question: if my USB port is located in my living room, can I play in my bedroom? Or will I need to be located near the wi-fi adapter?

Well, there are various things that might affect the performance of any wifi product but the Nintendo WiFi Adapter can do up to 30ft with a fair amount of things in its way, such as walls, phones, other wireless devices or whatever. If you purchase a regular WiFi adapter, many are able to go hundreds of feet with no problems. Just try not to go across the street over someone else's house since uhm..it might not work "that" far...yet. :)

I've only tried the one for 10 dollars off video games 30 bucks and over (but I've used it 3 times) and each time, I printed it out in black and white so that one coupon was on one page on normal inkjet paper and they accepted the coupons at both the bestbuy stores I went to.

So, has anyone seen this thing recently? It seems to be gone from the Best Buy web page (shows up on search but when you click the link it says the page no longer exists). I was hoping to use the store finder on it. I went to one store (Clackamas, OR) and they said that once, a long time ago, they had them. But it "has been a long time". Either the guy didn't know what I was talking about or they were in and out so fast. In any case, they didn't have any - I looked everywhere. I had held off because I thought the coupon would be a hassle to use - now it is a hassle just to find the damn thing :D.

I may have to get one since BAH GAWD I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND MY WIRELESS ROUTER SINCE MOVING GOD DAMMIT, and I want to play Mario Kart and Animal Crossing.

Someone reported last week that the USB connector will be bundled with MK DS starting Sunday, has anyone gone to the store and confirm with this yet? I cant go until later this afternoon, so any help will be appreciated.

Not sure about the bundle thing, i'll check that when I go into work tonight, but the Wi-Fi adapter has been deleted from our system, so I'm guessing it's a one time thing and if your store still hasnt, they won't get any more in.

The only thing I've known about the Wi-Fi adapter being bundled with a DS was for the Canadian release. I suppose bundling it here in the U.S. would be a good idea as long as the total price is fair enough. But I haven't heard anything...

I've looked in about 6 Best Buys (DC area and Portland area) and called a few others and NONE of them had it. Most didn't even know what I was talking about. Only one store (Bailey's Crossing in VA) even had a place for them - a white cardboard Nintendo wi-fi adapter box with a hand written price ($39.99). I was told the last one was sold an hour before I got there. So I figured I would be able to find it somewhere else and that's why I went to a bunch of other BB's (and called a few). No dice... Oh well, while I was travelling I managed to leach off of a few unsecured wireless routers to play a bit on wi-fi. The adapter would be MUCH better though :D. Now I'm home and can sit 2 feet from my Linksys, so no problem for the moment!

I picked up a wi-fi adapter in the Tysons Best Buy when they first started appearing in stores. Back then, they had a bunch of them sitting in the DS section. A search of the Best Buy website doesn't come up with anything, so it looks like they've stopped selling them.

FINALLY found one at Best Buy today. The sticker was printed on 1/16/06. It was the one and only Wi-Fi USB connector I have seen at Best Buy.

Does anyone who lives here in the DC area go to the rockville pike location? That place is ass. They've reorganized the store a few times and I just stopped going there since they have stuff all over the place. Ever notice how the Game Boy aisle is spelled "Game Boy Advanced" in many of their, if not all, stores?
