mother fuck

started downloading earlier.. got to 6% in an hour.. shut it off (had to go to work).. came home, it started at 10:30.. I get a message that it finished at 1:30.. guess what? That's a lie, it got to around 44% and claimed it was finished. Now I have to redownload it.

It's been 10 minutes and i'm at 5%. It's going a lot faster than before, but this is ridiculous. I'll have to just let it download overnight and play it in the morning, I guess
I hear that. it's actually pretty well balanced.

can you do aftertouch moves with projectiles and stuff in the demo?
Yeh, try a shield out.
Yeh, try a shield out.
I threw a few...they bounced around all the enemies which was pretty bad ass. is there something you have to press?

I like how there are all these context sensitive easter eggs...I've played the demo like 10 times and I'm still seeing new moves.

i still don't know how i threw a couple guys off the edge. I think to break the guy's neck with her legs you gotta hit the counter button as soon as the enemy hits, otherwise if you press the counter button with a slight delay after the clanging sound, you'll flip them backwards with a flash kick type move (the only move I can do consistently).

I kind of agree with some of the points made by Radioactive. Though it's not crucial to the game, not having a jump feels very awkward for me. I feel kind of restricted when all I can do is roll away and run around, like my feet are bound to the ground (until I can land the aerial combo starter that is). For such an acrobatic character it does seem a bit odd with no jump.

Also having the automatic blocking is weird at first since I am used to L1 for block in...pretty much all action/platforming games I've played recently (GoW 1/2, NGS), but once you get used to it it's not so bad. I've still yet to get there though since I find myself holding down some button when I want to block. L1 just also happens to be the ranged stance which I don't think has blocking.

I've played the demo for about 5 minutes now.. and this game makes God of War its bitch. Seriously. From the QTE's (which I love), the whole countering system (Seriously, dude smacked me up in the air.. I threw the sword, hooked him, and pulled myself to him).. it's just beautiful. I was in a crowd of enemies and she latched one guy and swung him around over and over and cleared everyone out.

I'm payin' full price for this one.

//edit: I haven't seen anyone mention it, but the facial animations and especially the lip synching are spot on.
I played though it again, I feel a little better about it but I still have some complaints.

No jump in a 3rd person action game to me is just plain ridiculous. Maybe this game will open my eyes to not having jump, maybe I would feel better if I didn't think the dodge move didn't feel good enough.

I'd rather have a blocking button myself, seeing as the L & R 2 only moved the camera slightly which you didn't really need to use. Makes it seem like those buttons could be put to better use.

Shaking the controller is just dumb, anyway you put it. If I wanted shitty motion controller I'd actually use my Wii.

I also thought it would be a more blood filled game. The blood animation looked weak, only a little then it would disappear. I thought it would be a game where blood splatters would stay and be everywhere.

Stiff animation sometimes, like doing those aerial combo moves. In one of them she paused for like a second or two then she did the move. Real buzz killer for me.

I really wanted to love this game, don't get me wrong I don't hate it or wish it to "flop" in retail sales, I'm just personally dissipointed with it.

Glad at least over people love it.
Agree with pretty much everything in this post. Completely hate Sixaxis controls, the game's framerate is annoying, it's slow(compated to DMC and GoW), and seems like it's gonna be insanely repetitive.

I don't expect this to make much of a splash this (HUGE) fall.

edit: With that said, however, I'll rent the game when it comes out. I just don't think it is gonna be big compared to similar games in the genre such as DMC, GoW and Ninja Gaiden.

edit2: this is just my opinion based on the demo. If the demo is in fact, months old, then I think that the retail product will probably be much better.

well, i'm happy that there's a subtitle option... While the gore is not GoW, but i think it's okay with me (killing humans with gore is a bit too much IMO).

Yes, auto blocking is weird for me at first... Am i the only think it's a bit hard to block? Because i always get hit from the behind...

but that's the way you like it....from behind...

in the options menu under the sixaxis controls section.

You can switch on or off sixaxis controls for the camera, aftertouch, or combat. You wanna turn the combat one off.

I'm sorry.

You'll eventually get it.

I'm not sure how long mine took...I started it, went to work, and then came back and it was done.

Hope the demo is worth it for you...it's painfully short, but so awesome IMO.

Everyone masturbates about the Wii's motion control and despises all PS3's motion controller. Sorry but they are the same things.

ANYWAYs, the game is cool. Love switching between the sword moves. I enjoyed the E306 demo alot more. But I have to say, I acctually enjoyed the Quicktime event.

And I cant believe everyone is passing judgement on the DEMO, it was like 1.5 minutes long.

Its like judging a movie by walking in on it for 20 seconds and leaving.

I hate both types of motion control which is why I do not have a Wii yet. Luckily, on most games on the PS3 you can disable it. And even luckier is that you can play Brawl normallly on the Wii so that's a plus for me to get it.
Everyone masturbates about the Wii's motion control and despises all PS3's motion controller. Sorry but they are the same things.
I very very much disagree. I agree that people's attitudes regard the Wiimote as an innovation and Sixaxis as a poor man's ripoff, but they are not the same thing. At any rate, a small point to be made.

I had planned on getting it before I ever touched the demo. It only reaffirms me that the basic gameplay is there and it works, which is all I need to push me for a day 1 purchase. :p

As for demos/trailers of movies, I wouldn't have been very interested in Spiderman 3 had I not known that Venom wasn't in it. Probably wouldof kicked the bucket and not watched it for a year after it releases into theatres or so believe it or not. It definitely sold me on a ticket.

Some things in short doses can be a little enlightening to the overall picture but it depends what you are looking forward to in that overall picture. Though in general I do agree that people do tend to make up their minds far too easily. Regardless, I'll never be fully sure of my purchase until after I play the full game regardless of what some other review/person might say.
So has anyone taken my advice and fought one of those big ax guys at the beginning? They're pretty tough to hit.
You mean if you miss pushing the square button? I tried once but ended up hitting him off the edge :p
So has anyone taken my advice and fought one of those big ax guys at the beginning? They're pretty tough to hit.
Ha yeah. He was a bit tougher. All power moves.

So it's kinda like R1 is the block button, amirite?

Yea, I'm talking about if you don't push square

Either R1 or pushing nothing blocks.

Hmm, found a glitch. I beat all the guys on the first pillar and have a tiny bit of health yet and the game is stuck. It's not triggering the next push x section.

Haha, I meant the axe guy was tougher as he uses all power (orange) attacks.
And since you have to block those with R1, it's effectively the block button.

I'm lame.

If no one has done any aftertouching, just pick up something, throw with X and HOLD X, then steer with the tilt.
I'm trying to figure out the after touch tilt. Is it best to hold the controller so it's parallel to the floor and tilt that way?
Yeah, hold it like a normal person! Buttons facing the sky.
Then it's just slight tilts in any direction. Like Flow.

Bad thing about the tilt, is that you have to hold the controller flat.
So for games that really need it, like Blast Factor or Flow, I can't just lie back and enjoy it.

I don't mean watching a trailer.

I meant walking into a Movie while its still playing at a random time and watched it for 20 seconds and then you just leave.
So has anyone taken my advice and fought one of those big ax guys at the beginning? They're pretty tough to hit.
yeah, i did... i didn't press the square button, so i had to fight the axe dude. It was my 2nd attempt (the first being incorrectly pressing the right key on the d-pad, the lady fell and died). I actually died when fighting the axe dude.
I don't mean watching a trailer.

I see it more as a trailer because you aren't just picking up and playing a random part of the game for 2 minutes. You're actually playing 2 minutes of a part that the developers chose specifically for a reason along with what we're able to do in that area/span of time. Though I can see why you see it more akin to just a random 20 second movie clip since it's just one small area of the game that is shown, but regardless it's not like we are able to randomly choose the area we play.

EDIT: I guess the word teaser works better than trailer in this case considering how short it was. Anyhow, this isn't really worth going back and forth over, lol. :p

Whats with people complaining about framerate issues, am I the only one who hasn't noticed a singlel dip in it yet? The only thing i've noticed is a slight screen tearing at the beginning.

Are people forgetting this is an old build, and its a freakin DEMO? Now maybe i'm wrong but i really doubt they'd want alot of gore in a demo that just about any age can download it.

Stop trying to nitpick every little thing, we get that you like Halo and this isn't the game for you.

gokuo, agree with you... there's only one slight screen tearing at the beginning, other than that, i didn't notice anything else. As for the DEMO being too short, well, it's a DEMO! We're lucky to have a playable demo... Where's Lair demo? Anyhow, it's not like GoW, the enemies are smarter. It's not exactly a button smasher game. I like the characters and scenaries, so yeah, i'm gonna enjoy this game when it's out. Thanks to a fellow CAG, i pre-ordered HS for $46 shipped. You can't really beat that price for new releases...

it's not that it's dipping, it's that the animation is very jerky...to the point where it's kinda hard to see what kind of movements she's doing while she's attacking.

as for the rest, it's a game message board. I'm surprised the reception is as good as it is

The LAIR demo is coming out after the game is released. The dev team said that they were being pushed for time and didn't have time to do a demo or something like that.

And yeah, the enemies are a lot smarter in this than GoW. In GoW they just stand there and wait for you to kill them. Maybe they'll occassionally attack..but thats about all. You could probably button mash your way though some parts, but that doesn't bother me since the combat is waaaaaaaay deeper than in GoW.

though it's a short demo, try playing it over again with different moves and experimenting around. There are many moves for each stance, and some of them look pretty sweet. The aerial combos, though kind of hard to get them started are pretty fun to look at, and who doesn't like watchin her chop some balls up.

and there aren't any framerate issues for me. I don't notice any annoyingly glaring frame stuttering/skipping/slowdowns. It's just the nature of the amount of animations coupled with the fps. On the whole everything is pretty fluid for me.

What's up with the crazy as cat-shit girl?

Did anyone else think the main characters face looks like Olivia Munn?

As far as framerates: I did notice less than 30 on the cliff; for the first fight on the cliff; everything was pretty smooth. Then on the second fight; whenever I'd wreck furniture, fps would drop. Hopefully, this will be fixed.
What's up with the crazy as cat-shit girl?
She's cuckoo for cocoa puffs...and imaginary friends

I was a bit disappointed. I didn't feel like the character movement was that fluid. I was expecting more from the hype.
I was a bit disappointed. I didn't feel like the character movement was that fluid. I was expecting more from the hype.
I think that is a misconception with this game.

People hear that they are using big name stunt actors, tons of camera to record their movements, are using new technology for face capture, and what not.

People forget, that most of that work is going into the game's cutscenes. Sure some of it will rub off into the game's main animations. But all that effort wasn't focused on making the gameplay look realistic.
What's up with the crazy as cat-shit girl?
Have you ever seen the Lord of the Rings? She's essentially a clone of Gollum, as the same guy did all the mo-capping for both.

I'm pretty impressed with the animation of the gameplay so far. After (finally) downloading it last night, my fingers wore themselves out playing. :)

The cutscenes look VERY good so far to boot. I like the lip-sync... pretty amazing for a game. :)

I played Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox back when it first came out. Yesterday I got to give the Ninja Gaiden Sigma demo a whirl. This morning I played the Heavenly Sword demo and unfortunately, it doesn't stand up for me.

I think part of it is that compared to both Ninja Gaiden and God of War, this game seems to lack the visceral impact of the afore-mentioned titles. I get amped up playing God of War and Ninja Gaiden. With this it was kind of like, "Meh, when's the next button pressing part? That was cool looking."

They can keep the cut scenes, and the lip-syncing. I want a kick ass action game and from what I played, this is no Ninja Gaiden.
this is no Ninja Gaiden.
Yeah but you have to think though, Ninja Gaiden is the best of the best of the action game. So not much can compete with it at all. HS from what I played is tied for me around GOW. Currently I think it's better then GOW because the combat is much deeper then GOW IMO. Plus the enemies actually try to kill you in Hs, In GOW they kinda linger around waiting for you to kill them. I don't know I respect your opinion and everything but no way you can compare HS to Ninja Gaiden. That game is in a league of it's own IMO.
You're gonna have to accept the fact this game is not Ninja Gaiden, and isn't trying to be.
Exactly.

One thing this has over NG (Sigma at least) no loading while fighting :p

It's happened to me a lot...even happened today when I played it. Plus there are way too many loading spots...I'm enduring it somehow though :p
