Well, my 360 just red ringed permanently. Mar 06 manufacturing date. I'm on the phone with MS right now.

For those that sent your system in. Do you send the hard drive in as well? There is no way I'm losing all that info/data.
nope, send in the system with nothing else, no hard drive, no power cables nothing.

Mine red ringed a few days ago. Did the towel trick to get a few more hours with Mass Effect, but I am still waiting for my coffin.

I am just going to sell the 360 they send me back and go buy and elite in the interim. I want a Falcon so I have a better chance of this not happening again.

I got my first 360 on the tuesday after release in the mail. It died a week later. I returned it to the store.

Got my second one a couple of weeks later, manufacturing date 11/21/2005. It dies on me 11/28/2007. Exactly 2 years and one week to the date.

So hopefully I can get a decent Falcon for my third box.
nope, send in the system with nothing else, no hard drive, no power cables nothing.
Thanks.

All of these stories of people getting systems, then having them die nearly immediately aren't sounding too good.

I asked the guy on the phone, "Does Microsoft send out refurbed units anymore?" He replies, "You'll get the console back that you sent in for repair."

I thought "yeah right."

OK, WTF.

I cut my 360 off since I made my last post. I come back and try it one more time and it comes right back on. I try to play the simpsons game, and my entire save file has been corrupted. The system is up right this second.

Do I still send it in for repairs? What happens if they don't get the RRoD?

Edit: Well, 4 minutes later, the game freezes up. Cut the system off, cut it back on. No RRoD, however the Xbox 360 load screen is all squarey and pixelated. Try it a few more times and the system is in permanent red ring mode. Awesome.
How do you know that it's a new unit? Is there some special packaging or sticker on it? Or are you going based on visible condition?

The reason I'm wondering is because new 360s have slightly different power supllies.
\

It has the manufactured date on the back. My NEW one says 11-09-2007. That is just about the date I sent my first one in.
From my understanding it can not be a new one. The new ones all have HDMI. If the one they sent him does not then they stopped puting HDMI on all the new ones or they did not send a new one.
I guess all of them don't have HDMI. My guess is that they will use older motherboards on replacement until they run dry.

Thats exactly what my replacement did, with the weird, pixelated lock ups
Thats exactly what my replacement did, with the weird, pixelated lock ups
Did you get a replacement for your replacement?

How long does this entire process usually take? Will I get this thing back before Christmas?

So I ended up just buying a new 360. Falcon pro with a hitachi (lot 742).

I'll just sell the refurb when I get it back, as well as the forza/marvel games that came with the 360 because I already have forza 2 and don't care for superman games.
Just because it has a new date doesn't mean it's new.
Does anyone know if they put new stickers on refurbished units after they repair them? Otherwise, what else are you suggesting it is if not new?

I had a close call yesterday. I turned on my 360 for the first time that day, and after playing Mass Effect for less then 5 minutes I got the RRoD. I turned the 360 off for a few minutes, then powered it back on and it was working just fine. Between yesterday and today I've played Mass Effect for 4-5 hours with no problems.

It's been said before.

Hate to break it to you, but it's only a matter of time now....

Welcome to the club.
Luckily, I bought the Gamestop PRP. Hoping for a Falcon this week.
I think they stopped honoring them. I know they stopped selling them I dunno if they'll replace it or not. I'd be pissed if they didn't.

They can't stop honoring them; it's a contract. I do believe they stopped selling them, though.

Interestingly, PRPs used to be pure profit for Gamestop; they would send the detective units back to Microsoft for a full refund. Any consoles that survived the year would be easy money.

Got a call today from Mayra, my personal Xbox repair agent. She's going to be calling me every day from now until I get this resolved. Not only that, but she said she'll try and get me a brand new console, and after I get my coffin, MS will be compensating me for my troubles by offering me a free game. Woot.

Good luck with that. Sam, my personal Xbox repair agent, told me the same. He hasn't updated me yet. He doesn't return my phone calls. And he's on vacation right now. He also told me that he'd make sure the shipping process was all next day air. Everything has been 3 day select.
When I called 800-4my-xbox today, they told me that they are above Sam anyway and that they can help me. I still haven't gotten any compensation. When I asked for it, they said, 'If you really want it, we can give you a wired headset'. What game are you going to choose?

Well looks like they are getting cheap now. The coffin to them was 3-day ups, but according to the new tracking number the replacement to me is standard ground with no estimated delivery date.

Should have always been like that. Was atleast when mine died last year.

My second brand new Xbox 360 just RROD'd on me last night after playing COD4 for 10 minutes. The coffin is in the mail (I hope) and I will probably not get my 360 back until after Xmas. The problem is, I asked for like 10 360 games and 3 PS3 games for Xmas. I think I got a majority of 360 games coming to me this Xmas day so I'm a little disappointed.

To be honest, I kinda want to "Office Space" this thing and send it back in pieces and see what they say. Then again, I have a sick sense of humor so I would probably be the only one who finds it funny. Figures...

Wow! My status changed from waiting for 360 to arrive to 360 received! Probably only 3 more weeks!

Dammit, I want to play Mass Effect!

So if I called last night to get my coffin sent here, will I be able to get my box back by xmas??? Man I'm really wanting it back already and it hasn't even left!

Good question. Where exactly did this rumor come from?

Probably somewhere around the 1st week of next week. Sorry man, im in the same boat

I dunno, if it's an elite i doubt it. Called for Coffin nov 6, arrived nov 14 and i sent it out the same day. they got it on the 20th, still says device has been recieved and being repaired whenever i check the site or call them. Still waiting here....

dood just give your ps3 the tender loving care it deserves.

My Xbox 360 died today...general freezing then RROD...

Assassin's Creed is now on ebay...no point keeping it if I won't be able to play it cause of repair time/vacation. I'll rebuy later.

How do you check your repair status? Because the service xbox site won't let me register my old 360. It worked fine for my new one though. Both were bought brand new.

Hey guys, got the RRoD and was wondering what everyone thought.

11/28: Coffin ordered
12/1 : Coffin Arrived
12/4: 360 Received by MS
12/4: Status on xbox.com changed to "Device Shipped to Customer"

So my question is, did they really fix it in one day? I called MS, but i guess since its late I got routed to india, they said the system was down and I couldnt get a tracking number.

...oh god I just had a thought. What if it didnt red ring there and they're sending it back to me broken?

You know you don't get back the console you sent, right? They receive it, verify it's broken and send you a new one from the replacement pile. Yours is repaired at some point and placed in the replacement pile.

I'll take it. I want to play Mass Effect dammit!

imagine how gigantic said pile is though. Think about all the 360s that have died. Even with the ones that are repaired and sold as refurbished...that's still a lot of 360s.

You are having the same problem I am. Last time this happened my serial number changed on service.xbox.com, this time it didn't. They must just not be updating the serial numbers right away anymore. (last time when they updated the serial, it changed the status to "no repair requested" which was true, but made it harder for me to track.)
btw is it okay if we just used the online repair request instead of calling?
Yep, I did that and got it within a week.
Hate to break it to you, but it's only a matter of time now....

Yeah I figured that.
It's fine, my DVD drive is also dying and that's not covered by the 3 year warranty.

hope nothing is wrong i think they would call me or tell me i needed to pay for repair it if something was wrong right thats a quick turn around since i live in maryland

So if this is the case, why the fuck do they not cross-ship you a new console with a CC# to verify that you get the new one back to them? There's no reason that anybody should have to be out of their Xbox for 3-6 weeks.

Because they don't have to. No manufacturer does that, and very few retailers do it either. It's just extra work for them

I want to find out where exactly the place is where the dead 360s go. Provide me w/ an address OP and I'll see if I can find it somewhere off the highway or somethin. (lives in Mcallen, TX) Maybe I'll get to see this mound of awesomeness that is Mt. Dead360.

It's not a mistake both times i've shipped my 360 back for repairs the replacement went back out the same day they received it. This last time I skipped the whole coffin step though and just used my own packaging and dime and sent it UPS myself. Cost me about $13 but saves four days waiting to receive the coffin from them. Four long days since at the time I only had had a GC and handhelds. :D

I haven't recieved my coffin yet BUT I did try that "towel trick" courtesy of CheapyD's youtube "how-to" and it fucking worked! I felt like a total idiot while doing it. In my head I was like, "Might as well rub two sticks together and do a voo doo dance while I'm at it..." but it actually worked like a charm. I just sat there on the edge of my bed while COD4 was loading, mouth gaping wide open is pure disbelief.

However, I did have a question about this trick; is the console supposed to shut off during the towel trick? The first time I wrapped up the 360 in towels, left it on for like 30 mins, then let it cool down for 20 mins, nothing happened. Then I got ticked off cause it wasn't working and wrapped it up again, turned it on and left it there for like 15 mins, and when I came back the system had shut off. I figured I had totally messed it up but I let it cool down near a fan and the A/C vent. After about 10 mins, I turned it on and it worked flawlessly. Is this bad, and about how long should I expect it to RROD on me again? Thanks!

I got my original unit back. Mine wasn't RRODing, it would no longer read any discs.

Mine turned off a few times when I tried it. I got about 3 days out of the trick, which left another few days before my coffin arrived.

Well seeing how I'm fucking sick of my 360 taking 2-3 minutes to log me into live, another 2-4 to load up the friends list and messages I have, locking up on the dashboard, locking up in game, and all the disc read errors with new games; I'm going to try the towel trick. I got my hopes up when I saw a red ring but thanks to what is now an "Adult" Sesame Street I can see that it is four not three parts of the circle. Also knowing that you get four with the A/V cable not pluged in helps too. So what I'm hoping is that this will cause it to rrod faster then it is now. Most of what people have said is that it lasts for a week or 2 at most once you do this. Also I think I'm going over kill with it. I'm using two blankets instead of towels.

EDIT:

Well about 30 minutes later and the damn thing was cool to the touch and when I saw the front no lights. I know it was on when I strarted so unless it got so hot that it shut itself off I had to some how shut it off when wraping it. Due to the lack of heat I'm going to say I some how shut it off. So now it is another 30 minutes or so.

EDIT:

Nope it is shuting off on its own. I'm thinking it is due to the fact that it knows it is not sending out an A/V signal so I'm going to plug them backup and try one more time.

EDIT:

Well, with only the time it was on before it shut itself off it did get warm but not really that hot. So now the A/V cables are in maybe this will red ring it.

EDIT:

Ok I still have about 10-15 minutes left and I can smell it. I have never been able to smell burning electronics. Starting to wonder if this was a good idea. I have Twen(on CAG) Twenzor(on Live) to thank for it.

EDIT:

Well I took of the blankets and the back was really hot. Also the thing was louder then normal. So I hope this thing dies in the next week or so.
