So the woman with the semi-impenetrable accent (but very polite and thorough) told me the "coffin" takes 7-10 days to arrive and I should have my 360 repaired/replaced 3-4 weeks after I send it in. That an accurate estimate? A 'safe' one to cover their asses? Or are they--(insert Shaggy-style "Gulp!")--being a little too optimistic with those numbers?

P.S. I decided that when I get mine back if it breaks down again, I'm going to buy another one and keep the second repair job as a back-up. Would this scenario potentially cause problems with Gamertags and such, provided that I simply move the HDD from one console to the other?

bought a refurbished one on september 27. broken today, november 13. barely a month. w t f. it was refurbished so it didn't even have warrenty. i just modded it yesterday for $40 too. now i have to go pay someone else to fix it or do it myself.

I read your cry for help and I rememberd seeing this in my OXM Holiday 07 issue, xbox360-pros.com/oxm or 1-800-618-7215. They're repair anything wrong with your 360, free estimate, 1 day turnaround and 90 day warranty. Don't know anything about it but give it a shot.

thanks, but i've been reading around and i will take my chances with xbox support. i called them and they are sending me a coffin and i will see if they still fix it even though there's no warranty sticker.

anyone successful here with getting theirs repaired without warranty sticker? i've been readingo ther forums and i see success over on those.
That an accurate estimate? A 'safe' one to cover their asses?
I've seen many people saying that theirs took a total of fifteen days, but a small number of those people saying that the one they received arrived broken.

And I've seen a very small number of horror stories where they'd already been waiting a month, kept calling in and getting rebuffed, and then eventually received a broken console ..

So, keep on 'em. What's frustrating me is that mine has been sitting with the 'received and undergoing repair' status for a few days now. Why not do cross-ships with a credit card?

cant agree with this more^^^^^

mine had the quickest turn around (after i got them to ship the coffin to the correct address) but i got it back ran halo 3 and orange box on it which sent it crashing down. same thing happened to my roommate out at school. they recd mine monday so we'll see how long it takes this time.

btw to the browns fans... dawson's kick is up and... its short

here we go steelers

Grrr...

Like I said, though, if--excuse me, when--my repaired/replaced 360 arrives and it putzes out, I'm springing for another, with a back-up coming back to me. A bunch of recent events along with the fiasco that is this console's failure rate (and the futility that is Microsoft trying to crack Japan and Europe outside the U.K.) are starting to make me wonder if they're not in this 'war' for the long haul (read: another generation). But that's a different post.

Strell, Mario, Shiggy...I'm so sorry! Please don't abandon me like my faith abandoned you!

Not to disparage your decision, but after such a negative experience with your current console, why would you buy another?

Me? Well, because I've got too many games and too much time invested to bail on the 360 altogether. It's still got the best online service. Live Arcade, on the whole, has come a long way. My launch console lasted just short of two years, which, sadly, is something more than a handful of other early adopters can't say. I would get another one at Best Buy, spring for the PRP (I confirmed it today that they don't do Product Service Plans for consoles), and I know I'd be covered for two years. By that point, the console's lifespan will be winding down and I'm sure Microsoft will be selling some bare-bones form of the 360 for $150 or less.

Hey, it's a great gaming console when it works.

Yeah, I agree, it's been a great ride so far. I'd just be hesitant to put any more money into it from this point on.

If Microsoft hadn't extended the warranty for RRoDs, I'd be pretty well pissed right now.

Seriously WTF is going on with my 360?!?!?! All games play fine EXCEPT Halo 3. My system LOCKS up when it his the main menu of the game with NO options! If I am lucky I can get to match making but then lock up on loading and that's IF I connect to other players.

My Ace Combat 6 plays FINE despite a 1 inch scratch, yet my Halo 3 just came back from Microsoft's disc replacement center scratch free and won't play!

Theories?

Update: Called initially on Oct. 21. They received console on Oct. 31. Called yesterday (Nov. 13) and finally got the tracking number and it will be here Thursday the 15th. So almost 4 weeks total turnaround time.

Well that makes me get alittle excited. They got my console on the 2nd, so maybe mine is just a few days off.

I don't understand why as soon as they recieve it and make sure everything is there, don't they just send us another unit out that day? It's not like any of us are getting our orginal consoles back...
It's not like any of us are getting our orginal consoles back...
According to the person I talked to on the phone, I am. I checked the serial and console ID #s off with him.

I don't know if it helped, but when I called in for my repair order I told them up front that I knew of many instances of people getting different (and sometimes banged-up) consoles.

I said that I either wanted a new box or mine repaired, and I would not accept an item in less than near-mint condition since that is what I sent in. I also typed up a letter saying same and packed it in with my console.

Did any of that help? I have no idea - but it certainly couldn't hurt.

I'm assuming that the only problem would be not being able to access DLC offline. Maybe someone can clarify. As for me, I'm also heading out to BB if/when my "repaired" unit goes kaput. My wife, on the other hand, thinks I should just bite the bullet and go buy a new system. Truth is she just wants to be able to play Rock Band at launch.
I'm assuming that the only problem would be not being able to access DLC offline.
Correct. Everything else (GTs, game saves) will work just fine since you're just swapping HDDs.

Awesome, got my box back yesterday, two weeks to the day that I sent it out. The manufacture date is 2006 ~07 but it's been working fine so far. Only thing is that it emits a electronic "beep" noise when I press the button to turn it on but it doesn't seem to have anything wrong with it aside from that.

The whole getting your original console back thing is funny because I wanted my first one back because it was pristine. I got a refurb that wasn't bad by any means, but still not perfect. So now that it died, I guess I'm destined to get that one back indefinitely.
Unit received in McAllen on 11/07. Unit sent back to me on 11/09. No email from MS, no word, nothing.

I called and found out this info by asking a rep. Found out that they repaired my original box (which is good, I either wanted that or a new one) and shipped it out on the 9th. Told him I was pretty pissed that I hadn't been notified.

He said that they had sent an email to an ancient email addy of mine, one I haven't used in 4 years at least. Which is weird since when I had to verify my current address, they used the correct one. So - if you've used more than one email over the course of your Xbox/Xbox360 ownership, you may want to call MS and make sure all is up to date.

My console is due back on the 14th, so hopefully it'll get here on time...and work.
My house-sitter for the day (to make sure someone was there to sign for the 360) has informed me that the 360 is sitting on my weight bench. Sent in on 11/2, received on 11/14. Not bad at all. Now to see if the damn thing is fixed.

i called in yesterday so i hope i get my coffin before wednesday next week because i'm going back home for thanksgiving!

i hope i'm one of the lucky ones who get their coffin in 3-5 days and not 8 days.

What is the return address on the box when they are shipped to you? I am traveling this week and my wife said that a package arrived from Indiana. I sent my 360 back last week.

I did get my original unit back, and I have been road-testing it since 6:00. Working fine, and it's actually quieter running than it was before. Wonder what exactly they did to it? I also got a 1-month Live card taped to the bag that the 360 was in.

man all you guys are sure getting off good. If I dont get my 360 back soon I am just going to buy an arcade and say fuck it.

Hmmm... I got my 360 from BestBuy and still have my protection plan but it expires soon. If it quits working and it has had a price drop since I bought it ($399 to $349) I'm wondering if I can return it for store credit. And that take that credit and buy a new 360 and another extended warranty getting me back up to my original purchase price of $399? Because I'd be back to square one but have a good warranty still.

My coffin FINALLY arrived yesterday around 6pm -_- so it couldn't even mail it out that day. I called for it last tuesday. so now i hope i get it back sooner =(

They should give you the value you originally paid. I know people in the past who had Ipod service plans and when theirs died, they got bigger, newer models thanks to the price changes.

I think there are a few people on the boards who did it for Elites, and just paid the difference.

I had a pretty fast turn-around on my 360, but now I have trouble with my arcade games. Whenever I have trouble with my internet connection, or if XBox Live is down, I cannot play my arcade games. All of them ask to download the full version. I try to login to my profile, but I can't do that either. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I tried recovering my gamertag, but that doesn't seem to work. I also deleted and re-installed all of the arcade games.

Thanks,
Venent

Called last Friday and my coffin arrived today! Gonna drop it off at UPS in a couple of hours. Hopefully I'll get a fully functional console back in the next couple of weeks!

Mine is suppose to be delivered tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed she works and is my orginal!

(Also it will be exactly two weeks since they recieved my 360 in texas)

Good news !!!! My 360 started freezing on Bioshock when I was almost done. Thank god my 360 held on for me to finish the game. But the orange box was the killer. Just like everyone here they thought clearing the cache would fix the freezing problem. It did for a while letting me finish Bioshock. But today my 360's symptoms took a turn for the worst. The RROD showed it's face. Good news, your wondering? Well I actually hoped my 360 would take a dump, after I heard the HDMI was realeased. And that's why I bought the extended warranty. I just have to wait after the end of the year to make a claim to the place I bought it from. They said all I have to do is return it and they would send me a check for the price I paid for it. Cool so I'm going to Amazon or Costco (If their lifetime warranty cover the 360) to get the HDMI version with the two free games.

Well, I go in there with my 360 and my Protection Plan paperwork and, sure enough, she just tells to me go get another 360 off the shelf and they will give me the difference in credit. I can then use that credit to extend the warranty. However, there are no Xbox 360 Premiums in the sales floor. Apparently they are hoarding all the Xbox 360 consoles for the black friday sale and can't even get me one for an exchange! So, they do have plenty of consoles in stock, they just refuse to sell them. Even to a person like myself who they suckered in to buying a protection plan. fucking cunts.

360 just bit the big one. Near the end of mission 9 in Ace Combat (I was finally about to beat that fucker) the video went haywire. Crazy artifacts and distortions. Same issues after a power cycle. Now there's no video. None. Now I'm torn about whether to fix it, or just buy another. Opinions?

Woo, got my coffin yesterday (about four days after the initial phone call), packed it up, and sent it out today. Last time my 'box died, it only took about a week and a half for them to repair and get it back to me. I'm crossin' my fingers!

See, and this thread being 139 pages and running (and running) is one of the reasons why I'm wondering if this is it for Microsoft in the console market. I'm not saying they went into the 360 launch two years ago thinking that, but really, how many people are going to invest in the Nextbox at launch or even a year after that when this console continues to have a ridiculous failure rate?

I know I'm not going to even think about going through the launch window bullshit again...particularly for any 360 successor. They could vehemently claim that they learned from their mistakes here, and that the next one will have a failure rate that falls in the sub-2% range, but I just won't believe it. The mainstream audience will think first and foremost about these problems, too, and their consideration will probably end there. You add this to the futility of trying to break Japan and Europe (save the U.K.), as well as all of the tumult going on within recently, and the Halo franchise's time having passed by the time the next generation is ready, and I just think they may make the business decision to cut their losses and 'tap out' altogether.

P.S. I'm thinking maybe a dumbed-down PC meant for gaming primarily might be the way they'll go. Save your "Wait! That's called--" jokes, please.

New Xbox Elite: Three months old! I bought it to replace the 360 that was being repaired by Microsoft.

Doesn't read ANY game disks. I've tried every game in my complete Xbox and Xbox 360 library, including a copy of Tomb Raider Anniversary fresh out of the box. Makes an odd tick tick tick tick tick sound for about thirty seconds, then displays the Open Tray bar without any error codes.

No red rings. No errors flashing up. No Dirty Disk warning. Just failure to play.

Music Cds work fine.

Same behavior regardless of whether the Hard Drive is in or not.

... The worst part is that it died after a period where I didn't play it for a couple of weeks. Just like my first one. It was unplugged. I have a huge air filtration unit because one of our cats has Asthma. It, like the last one, sits all by itself on top of a small endtable / bookshelf that holds my game cases.

The refurbished 360 that I got back from Microsoft recently, that I was planning to send to a relative for Chrismas, works just fine.

Dreading bringing it back to Best Buy tomorrow to get a replacement. It is so close to the Black Friday sales that I'm afraid that they won't give me a new one, even though I have a Protection Plan.

Why would the proximity to Black Friday affect their policy? What 'options' do they have besides straight-up replacement?
Why would the proximity to Black Friday affect their policy? What 'options' do they have besides straight-up replacement?
Well, as I said in an earlier post...

They would not let me exchange mine since they pulled the Xbox 360 consoles off the shelf and are holding them for the Black Friday ad. This doesn't appear to be the case with the core, elite, or Halo edition. It's the Xbox 360 premium in the ad (with free GH2) and those have been pulled from the shelves. I'm calling BB corporate tomorrow. fucking assholes.

Got my console back today! Well, not really my console (which was manufactured this year) but a refurb (manufactured 06/06). No difference at all though, from my original 360. No loud noises or rattles or anything. I was hoping to luck out and get one back with an HDMI port but I guess I'll have to deal with it.

Total turnaround time here was:
Called 10/24 for box.
Received and mailed off box 10/29.
Received a my 360 11/15.

A little over 3 weeks from start to finish.

Wow, valor, that's horrible. They honor that PRP ASAP, Black Friday or Black Monday. They bring out a Premium from the back, without hesitation.

Give 'em Hell about this, although I don't know what your odds of success are. Personally, I've come to accept Best Buy as a necessary evil, although I do what I can to minimize my gaming-related purchases there. It's just difficult to avoid them completely, as I boycott Wal-Mart for much larger issues and I've been done with Gamestop since I got my Wii last year (and thusly determined I no longer had a need for them).

P.S. More on-topic, was I supposed to get an email confirming that my defective console call was acknowledged and that my "coffin" is on its way? The email I gave to the woman is something I had to spell out, and what with her accent and the multiple times we had to repeat things to each other, I wouldn't be surprised if she got a character or two wrong. At least she seemed to get my mailing address right on the read-back.

That's complete crap. Are there any other BestBuys local to you that you could try? It might just be the a-holes at that store.

I just got back from the local BestBuy after exchanging my premium that decided to 3-red-ring lastnight. They just gave me a new premium with the Forza2/MUA bundle and $15.00 (the difference of price now vs what I paid for a premium a year ago and a new 2yr plan).

Altho, I didn't get to exchange my harddrive, so all my saved games gone forever. Which really sucks.

That reminds me...when I finally get mine back, I should really get a memory card, for back-up purposes.*

Curse you, Microsoft! I pay and I pay and I pay for your failures!

*--The other option for people with the PRP, of course, would be to buy a HDD to swap with the one you have your game saves and such on, but that's unfortunately a still-too-expensive workaround.

Updating myself. Came Thursday, manuf. date of 04/06 (older than the one I sent in), but it doesnt sound like a helicopter taking off and seems to run fine.

I think It's more along the lines anyone that purchases the next XBox is *almost guaranteed* to purchase a warranty, whether from Microsoft or a retailer, so MS will make more cash next round from all the warranties if they manage to have little problems next time around. I'll gladly buy my next XBox at launch but not without a warranty. If It's not offered however, this will be a entirely different story.

I don't recall anyone saying they got an email. I did speak with a CS manager and I told him that I would have liked to have gotten one so that I would know when my console was returning.

His reply was "Sir, you are free to call and check on things at any time.".

They just don't fucking get it.
