Hey! My 360 is out for delivery on the truck!

The total turnaround time was insanely fast.

12/7- Gave it to UPS Store, UPS came by at 6 that night to pick it up.
12/11- Got to the repair plant in McCallen, TX.
12/17- Already coming back to me as we speak.

I'm VERY pleased with that. I mean, I wish I didn't have to go through it, becuase I thought I'd get it back somtime in January or at the end of the month, this is the absolute best they could've done and I appreciate that more than the 6-8 week bullshit standard they used to have.

i was playing guitar hero last night, and id just unlocked some new songs and then it says "disc reading error" so i take out the disk and it looks like the xbox 360 burned/warped the cd or something.
i exchanged the cd at bestbuy with no problums but i hope this was just a one time thing.
not too good for a 360 thats less then a month old. i might need a coffin soon..

Awesome, dropped off my console at the UPS Store on Saturday, and it's already in McAllen. My Xbox CR called me to tell me that I should be getting a new console shipping out to me in a couple days, and then gave me a few different choices for my compensation. She offered Viva Pinata, PGR3, Kameo, XBLA Unplugged, a wireless controller, a play and charge kit, a quick charge kit, or a Vision cam. I went with Viva Pinata.

Did you complain or something? I got shit.

Good to hear about the quick shipping times. I have a question, though. How long does it usually take to get the box they send you to ship it back in? It says I'm supposed to get an e-mail once they send it, but I haven't gotten one yet.

They sent it to me 11/29 and I got it December 1st I believe.

Its shipped with 3 day select from UPS.

BTW, I got my 360 about an hour ago but haven't opened it yet. Will do so soon.

From people's experiences, how long will towel tricking your 360 last before it finally just craps out for good? I've been doing it to mine for about a week now and it's been fine for the most part. I just really don't want to send it out now only to get it back in mid-January...I don't know what to do

Look at the posts above you.

Got my 360 back today and it was the same one I sent in. If it wasn't the refurb I got the 1st time my 360 died I'd be happy. Plugged it in and gave it a test for a few minutes and it worked fine.
So it sounds like the new heatsinks don't really help?
My Xbox (a Premium with HDMI, lot 727) supposedly has the new heat sink, but the video output just died. No red rings, but no picture. Hopefully it's just an isolated case, but it certainly doesn't inspire confidence.
One ring of death? That's what I'm getting. Incredibly shitty of Microsoft if they really are rigging the new systems like that.
LOL @ your sig! Was Spaz serious when he wrote that or was it a joke post?

I sent in my system last weekend, they received it last Wednesday, and are already shipping one out to me. The serial is different than my original, but I don't have it with me to compare if it is newer or older. The warranty expiration is now 2 months later though, so I guess that gives me an extra 2 months to put it to the test. If it is a refurb, you bet I will.
Mine arrived at the repair center on the 10th and shipped today (14th)

Call from the phone number that you set up your account with and it will give you an update when you call 1-800-4MY-XBOX

You can then navigate through and get an operator to give you your tracking number

Quick question, is it normal for MS to ship back via Fed Ex?

If I get my same 360 back, I hope the "towel trick" doesn't have any "long term" side effects
Arrived today....damn refurb 3-24-06... hopefully it lasts

Am I supposed to put my address inside of the shipping box and am I supposed to put my reference number on the outside of the shipping box? I ask the latter because the lady I spoked to said I was supposed to but there is no mention of it on the sheet inside the shipping box. Also, am I supposed to take off the original, plain white faceplate?
I believe any refurb you get back has a 1 year general warranty for all parts.
Actually, this is not true. I just found this on the official site:

"Any replacement parts or Xbox Product will be new or refurbished or serviceably used, comparable in function and performance to the original part or Xbox Product and warranted for the remainder of the original Warranty Period or 30 days from the date of shipment of the Xbox Product back to you, whichever is longer."

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemsetup/xbox360/resources/warranty.htm

Wow, M$ is really a piece of shit company, they send you back a shitty refurb and if anything goes wrong you get only 30 days if your warranty is up? Lame.

All I did was exactly what was on the sheet, and mine arrived fine. Everything is probably linked to your serial number. You are not supposed to take off the stock faceplate, but make sure you remove the hard drive.

I can't find my plain white faceplate (all I have is the Halo one). Will they accept it w/o a faceplate?

Check your GS for the $1.99 TSZ ones. I got one to mod, they'll probably be fine with that.

The last few times I've sent mine in were without faceplates. In fact, one time a CSR specifically instructed me to remove the faceplate.

I found this posted on another site for how to decode serial numbers:

Serial Number = LNNNNNNYWWFF

L = Production line in the factory
NNNNNN = Xbox in the week
Y = Year (last digit)
WW = week of the year *
FF = Factory # (05 & 06 are China)

According to this, the xbox they are sending me back was built just about 2 weeks ago. But I am guessing that just means it was refurb'd 2 weeks ago.
The first digit is 9.

Does everyone else who got a refurb back have an SN starting with 9? I am wondering if that is the refurb line.

Just a quick update on the my 360.

I sent it in and probably got in back in like 2 weeks, so the turnaround time was fast. My 360 had problems with video (stopped showing and had lots of static), and I got the same exact 360 I sent in, but fixed. I also looked through the vents and the MS techs had put on a new redesigned heatsink, even though mine didn't have the 3 rings.

So overall happy with the service, but I have 2 360s now since I bought a new falcon during those two weeks.

Got my coffin today, will send it out tomorrow. Won't have it available when cousins come over Xmas. =[ Unless I somehow get it before New Year's Eve.

Got my coffin today and already shipped it back. Never did get an e-mail about it, but whatever. They included a sheet that asked you to select from a checklist which problems you were having. Mine was no video/no red lights. 3 red lights of course was another option, along with several others.
Mine's been gone since Dec 1. This blows.
Have you checked the status of it online or by phone? That is too long, unless they REALLY want to repair yours for some reason. They seem to be sending out refurbs within 2-3 days of receiving them lately.

Has anyone else noticed that they have a field for the warranty type within the repair agent? Mine says "repair," but I never saw that before. I wonder if they also have a "replacement" plan that would give a new console back.

And I also noticed that they list the tracking number online for the system they are sending me.

LOL it might seem long for some. But mine broke Nov 1st, Sent out Nov 6th., and got back to me Dec. 13th. Granted mine was an elite, I'm thinking there was a shortage of elites during this time, so if your's is an elite that might explain it

I feel your pain, I just called in for my coffin last nite (RROD). It sucks because I bought another GH2 guitar specifically b/c my sisters-in-law are coming over. :bomb: Guess we'll be playing Singstar instead.

Yeah, I was hoping to play Rock Band with cousins and whatnot. Im sure we could have a good time without it, but it's just a bummer.
How do you get the serial number of the new 360 they're sending you? Is it the Shipment ID?
If you signed in to the repair agent at service.xbox.com, it shows your registered devices. If they replaced yours, your old one will be replaced by the new number.

I got my first red ring last night on my refurb it turned back on all right but I think I might go ahead and order my coffin since this is exactly what happened last time and a week later it red ringed for the final time.

Looks like they just added this when you log in to check your repair status:

How long will this repair take and how do I know where it is in the process?
Your Xbox or Xbox 360 console repair will go through four different statuses as it moves through the repair process.

1. After your repair order is submitted, your status will change to Repair order submitted. This means that it is in the queue to be processed.

2. After it is processed, your repair order status will change to Waiting for device at service center. The total length of this process depends on you! We will ship an empty box to you by using ground service. When you receive the box, you will pack your console using the included instructions. Send it back to us by using the ground shipping that is included.

3. When we receive your console, the status will change to Device received at service center. It will require up to two business days to repair or replace your console.

4. When your console is repaired or replaced, we will ship it to you by using ground service. The status of your order will change to Device shipped to customer.

The interesting thing is the part I bolded about taking UP TO two business days to repair or replace the console. I guess they are making that a policy now.

Well they need to. The turnaround time is long enough as is, and back around the time of the warranty extension boxes were sitting in the "received" status for a week.
Thanks scottman. Has anyone ever scheduled to pick up their 360 from FedEx/UPS?
Noep though I did have them deliver it to my office after I missed the first delivery attempt.

22 days later, my fixed 360 has arrived. It's the same console that I sent in to them earlier. I was expecting a newer one. I can't tell what's been done to it, but so far, 30 minutes and no problems.

60 minutes on the fone...and i found out something i already knew....my xbox was broken....now im waiting for my coffin to get my FIFTH xbox 360.....fuckin microsoft.....and now i have to get ALL my motherfuckin arcade games back cuz dumbass microsoft wont let u hav ur arcade games on more than 2 xboxs....

For Christmas this year I received a RROD. There goes the rest of my vacation, I currently have rockband, Halo, Mass effect (Still sealed!). It's a good thing I stocked up on cheap PS3 games during the last couple of weeks of sales at Amazon.

I received the Christmas love of the RROD as well. I guess my launch system put up a good fight for this long, but COD 4 just destroyed it (or at least my 6 hour sessions did). I'm buying an arcade system tomorrow, as I have Rock Band currently wrapped up for my son and AC in a stocking for me. I'll probably just let him keep the Arcade and I'll keep my launch system once it's fixed.

I am absolutely furious right now. I have already had 3 other 360's (DRE's). A few months ago my Xbox started randomly crashing (rare) with colors all over the screen. Today the picture is all lines and dots. I bought the 2 yr warranty from M$ 12/24/05 so today is the last day to use it. I call them and now they say they have no record of me buying an extended warranty. I have already used the warranty 3 times so I know they have a record of it (last one being in august). I explained to the guy if they fixed it in August and I purchased it 12/24/05, its still in warranty because they don't sell 1 yr 8 month warranties. He just ignored my reasoning and now I have to fax in my receipt and the little paper I saved from sending in the warranty. I don't see how this is even proof I bought the warranty anyway. I'm going to be really mad if I have to contact the bank and have them send me my check that M$ cashed. If worse comes to worse ill tape up the ducts and make the thing overheat and RROD but I truly do have the 2 yr warranty so my problem should be covered anyway. This is ridiculous and I'm really pissed off.

I received my replacement today. They received mine 12/12, so it took them less than 2 weeks to replace it. I had put a note in it asking for a new system only (had to try). They sent me one back with a build date of 12-1-07, but it has a few blemishes on it and looks like the pads for standing it upright are slightly used, so I'm sure it's a refurb. The one I sent in one was spotless. I'm not positive, but it is at least as quiet or slightly quieter than the loud one I sent in. So far, it works fine. But the fan sounds like it's struggling, so if it dies, I hope it goes before my first year of warranty is up. They also sent me a 1 month live card, and a note telling me it's a replacement console.

Christmas day, my 360 gets the RRoD. Fanfuckingtastic. So anyways, I'm now HD DVD player-less, but at least I have my PS3, though I'll have to steal it back from my brother.

I'll call MS shortly from now and complain and stuff, but I'm incredibly pissed off right now, let's say that.

I was wondering if anyone had a problem checking your repair status online, only to find the site saying that you don't have anything registered? I had been checking the status of my 360 since I sent it off about a week and a half ago and it was shown as being at the repair center. Now when I check it under the same MS ID, it says I have nothing registered? What gives?

Just a little over a month after recieving my xbox back it Red on me again. I called in for a coffin and the CSR offered me a choice of games or accessories for the inconvience. I selected a wireless controller. Sweet! Is this standard or is it depending on how your csr feels?
