My 360 is officially dead. Its a depressing day. Thankfully, its RRoD, so its under warranty.
Can a 360 pro walk me through what I need to do? Or a link would work.
http://forums.xbox.com/16411864/ShowPost.aspx

just have it out and write down your ref # and systems reg code.

The call took about 20 minutes, not much of a hassle after that.

Wow, I got a Falcon fron Costco to replace the 360 I sent into Microsoft last week..... man, it is quiet and runs very cool..... man, I hated the amount of heat my launch 360 ran on..... hopefully this one last a lot longer.
do you send the power cord in with the system or just the system and nothing else, no faceplate, no nothing?
Unless you're instructed otherwise, only send in the console. DO NOT send cables, HDD, and other accessories with the system. You can take off the faceplate as well. The last few times I've had to send in, I was instructed to remove the faceplate.

Im so sick of fooling with this thing. It will not stay red ringed and I cant play anything cause it freezes every damn time. Itll freeze then freeze like 3 times on the Xbox 360 screen if I turn it off and back on then itll finally red ring. Then if you turn it back off and on it starts the process all over again. I have had it running since 10PM Thursday night trying to force it into red ringing for good but it just wont do it. The thing works fine till you try to play a game then it freezes like mentioned before. I guess Im just going to send it if the coffin ever gets here and just explain to them what its doing and hope they fix it.

I had my 3rd 360 die, which is the final straw for me. I charged a ps3 to my credit card, while I wait for the whole MS repair process to finish. I planned on selling off my 360 stuff, but after looking on ebay, it seems most premiums struggle to even fetch $200. That's less than the cost of an arcade/core model.

Anyone have any infor or insight into how much I could probably get for a premium 360, two wireless controllers, charge and play kit, and a couple games? I'm tired of the 360, but I'm not going to sell it for nothing.

Elite with Falcon chip. Confirmed with 175W and visual no heat pipe and 2 inductors. Bought after Thanksgiving. Worked fine until last night. Froze on logo or dashboard over 40+ times. Was able to exchange for a Pro and get store credit for the $100 extra (no elites available right now). The new chip did not even fix the need for a coffin. This will be my last xbox product. The Ultimate or 720 or whatever will not be getting my money! Its a shame America can't produce a reliable product anymore:cry: It does not matter if it doesn't get as hot if you it still don't work!

Hearing all these stories of people that have gone through 4 xbox 360's makes me sad... Are you telling me that my new 360(falcon chipset) also has a high risk of dying? Why do they die so fast what's wrong with them? I had my PS2 since launch(about 7 years) and I sold it a while ago in perfect working condition.

Um, I think Costco stopped that policy over a year ago, lol. I got mine in November 2006 and they still did it, but I heard they stopped it in February 07.

No, the change was for 90 dys on TV's PC, and phones..... not the 360

When they send you a replacement system, does the SN change online right away or are you guys just seeing the change once you get it back?

Just asking because mine was only there a day, so I'm hoping they just put another one that was already fixed and sent it to me instead of spending the time and fixing my old one.

Oh no... I just looked at my xbox 360's box and I found out that It's not a falcon... That explains why it's so loud... I bought it last november and it came with the 2 free games

This just makes me afraid to even buy a 360. The only game I really wanted to get it for was Mass Effect and I don't even really care about that game now. It's funny because I got 2 xbox 360 games right now (I bought the legendary edition when amazon had it for 59.99 for the helmet and I got the perfect dark zero collector's edition for 14.99). I kinda wanna play those 2 games but I don't wanna risk getting a system that's just going to die on me. I'm really hoping the next xbox revision with the smaller GPU finally solves the red ring of death problem.

My 2nd unit arrived back at the mother ship in Texas on Wednesday. The S/N disappeared briefly from my account at Xbox.com, but it came back on Friday. Still there and showing "Shipped to Customer" with the tracking number that they gave me back in October when Unit #2 was shipped to me.

Damn if this doesn't realllllly suck.

Are you 100% positive on this? My 360 died around when CoD4 was released and I haven't bothered with it. I bought it a month after release at Costco, so how do I go about in getting an exchange? Don't have the receipt and i'm not sure if I bought it with credit card or cash.

as long as you still have a membership with them, they should end up taking it back.

My system died on my this past weekend after a bit over 1 year of problem free gaming. So long has it been taking you guys to get your systems back from M$?

I haven't followed all the manufacturing talk regarding the 360, but I'm guessing this all implies your console was the least likely to die (based on what consumers think are quality components)? If so, it's meaningless for the moment. It's not as if 0% of any console will die, but if the new components reduce the probability from 30-50%+ to a far more reasonable sub-5%, then it's an improvement.

This will be my last xbox product. The Ultimate or 720 or whatever will not be getting my money! Its a shame America can't produce a reliable product anymore:cry: It does not matter if it doesn't get as hot if you it still don't work!

Forgive my skepticism, but I'm not buying it; from you or anyone else. As long as you all accept that the 360 is a remarkably finicky system with an atrociously high failure rate, and you continue to buy software for it and support it - why would I expect someone to not buy a followup console whose hardware quality is unrelated to this one?

Let's be honest; anyone genuinely fed up with MS is going to just sell their console and cut their losses. The vast majority will merely complain and followup with a resigned acceptance that they'll keep on playin' their 360 - only to be pissed off (and surprised, ironically!) when their next 360 breaks.

Wait until it's been 3 years since you purchased the first 360 you owned, and then your warranty, having expired, means you have to pay MS to repair any RROD at that point. Yowza.

how do you guys track your 360?
i sent mine out about a week ago for repair and am curious to find out its current status.

I ordered the coffin last monday 1/7, and my 360 arrived to MS today 1/14. so we'll see how long it takes to ship out another unit.

Hi hell0 derr,

Go to THIS support page and sign in to your Live account.

Once logged in, check under "Manage registered devices" and select your system. After that look to the right and you should see "For you device". Under which you can find "Review your repair status" which you can click. Now just look on this page and look for a tracking number. Then copy that and go to which ever carrier they are using (UPS.com or Fedex.com) and put it in their tracking field.

>>>I used the online form for the process instead of calling, so things might not be the same if you called in.

#1 checked the tracking number that was on the label I put on the 'coffin.'
#2 checked the status using xbox.com: http://service.xbox.com/servicehome.aspx
#3 You can call and check on it also using the 1 800 4my xbox number at your peril.

Back in October it took 3 weeks from the time I sent it off for it to come back (not including time waiting for the coffin).

Just hope you don't get a dud back like I did. Mine's back 'on vacation' in Texas right now...

edit: Well whaddya know my I just followed my own advice and see that my Xbox was shipped back to me today! And it was even the same one that I shipped to them... Too bad that it's just the same refurb and the original unit I sent them was much, much quieter. :(

Just a few more questions.
1. Do they ask anything when you return it?
2. I can return it to any Costco store right?
3. What do I need to return, just the console and power cable or everything that came with it?
4. Also, how does the gamertag work, can I just delete everything from the hard drive and make a new gamertag or use the old info I had onto the new one?

Thanks for the help.

No receipt necessary since your purchase is linked to your membership..... any costco store is fine..... I would just bring in the console for an exchange and keep your harddrive.

yep, my 360 finally shit the brick unfortunately... the system was opened before microsoft decided to generously extend the warranty's to 3 years which put me SOL!, i tried every fix known for it, it's just a dead brick :(.... i removed the DVD drive... considering ebaying the power brick and dvd drive maybe some of my games and controllers to get another system... i'm not gonna get a whole load of money... so i'll probably end up getting a (gamestop refurbished) so the question is... do these refurbs still get covered by microsofts 3 year extention? what exactly is (gamestop refurbished) i would assume they call all their used systems refurbed, weither they have been sent in for a repair or not, beacuse i've failed to find anything on the gamestop site to prove elsewise... anyways... you guys input?

I buy a new one, and look for a 175W power supply listed on the box so you can be sure to get a Falcon Motherboard.

No point in getting a refurb which probably has older hardware and will just die on you.

I would bring everything back. If you are exchanging for an entirely new system, they would want all the parts of the old one back. I doubt they let you exchange just the console. You would have to recover your gamertag on the new system. You should be able to use it like before, but any downloaded arcade games will only work when you are signed in online on a new system.

This is more of a question since my 360 isn't broken yet.

But has anyone had experiences with 360's eating discs? For the first time in my 26months owning a 360 it finally performed oddly. Last night while playing Call of Duty 4 for a good hour I heard a loud scratching noise and got the old style PS2 DRE aka "Your disc is unreadable" only to open my case and see a very nice set of circular scratches on my disc.

Luckily, I just got this game 30 days ago so I'm going to exchange it for another disc at my local Wal-Mart.

Question is: Will this be a active problem eventually that I would have to send my 360 in repairs? I've never had a RROD death yet so if this is one time problem or rare occurence I rather have a few scratched games then risking my 360 sending it and getting a refurb die in days on me.

I couldn't decide if this should be posted here or the general questions topic considering my 360 is still functional outside of scratching a disc.

Yeah I called them in advance and asked. They told me that I would have to bring everything back for a full refund and then I can just rebuy the system.

I'm gonna go return it in like an hour, is there a specific 360 that I should be looking for? Like the date/serial number or just the 175watt one?

Hehhe, my cousin's 360 that he bought a day before me has RRoD. I really can't believe his 360 lasted this long. Mine lasted 28 days, but now that I think about it, it could have been because it was in a oven like environment. I don't know yet, but I think his Fazora (?)2 killed his 360 as I knew he loved to play that game to death. Now we are taking it back to microcenter for an exchange under their program :)

Despite a marathon weekend of sports, flight combat and other games, my 360 didn't red ring over the weekend.

Told you Costco's return policy rocks!!!!

lol, yeah it does. They gave me a costco card worth $518 and I went and bought the $439 bundle that totaled to $475. I had to return the PGR3 but I gained COD4 from the bundle.

Thanks for the help again.

I just called MS and they said that my 360 should be here tomorrow (Friday) via FedEx.

So all and all, it took 10 business days from calling for the coffin to receiving the 360 back. They said that they repaired the system ( I don't know what that means they did though ) --- I'll be seling it on eBay anyways so as long as it works, I'm good.

Well I burned up my second 360 today. RROD.
Now instead of wating for a coffin they will email a packing slip from UPS and you can pack it in your own box. Supposedly I will get the packing slip tomorrow so I can mail it off.
I am tempted to sell it once I get it back and getting a more reliable system like a PS3. Only wish the software was better.

I'm offically fucking mad...

I kept getting DRE's errors today, AGAIN. So I called MS to get a repair order set up.

Well, as you may remember I called MS back around the begining of December, and was told that my warranty was expired. I explained them that I had an extended contract, and no it wasn't expired. She looked, and came back and explained I had a to write a letter to the warranty department to change the warranty to this console, since they had sent me back a different one. Even tho I know the sent me back a different one the first time, and nothing was made of it when I called back for the second time.
Anyway, I sent the letter, and heard nothing for a month. So I called on Jan 3rd, and spoke with a Teir 2 Agent. No idea how I got to him, just where I landed. He explained to me, that my console was covered for 3 years, on EVERYTHING. Yes, I questioned him about it, cause I thought it was for the three red lights only. He said, "We don't have a warranty for one specific part, the three year warranty covers anything, and then named off differen't things. (Video problems, disc read problems). I asked him three or more times, and each time he clarified that the 3 year warranty was correct.

I then even asked him if I'd get a refund for my warranty contract I purchased, since it was then technically useless. He put me on hold, asked a supervisor, and they said no, which I figured. However, I figured it would test again if this information he gave me was correct.

Anyway, between the time I wrote the letter and until today, I had no problems with the system. I went and put in Madden today, and DRE after 15 mins, so it wasn't like the system was overheating. So i quite, and come back later, and decided to try for the achivements I hadn't got yet.

I choose the Bears, since I needed the 200 PR, and figured Hester could do it. I get to about 150 return yards, and had also gotten the acheivement for 3 two point passing conversions, and another DRE.

So this time, I figure I'm not gonna fuck around and just send it in, figured I'd have no problems. WRONG. I call, and get the whole you're not under warranty thing again. Before I could explain things, he spent 5 mins reading notes from my recent calls, but somehow the teir 2 agent left no notes. I explained to the guy what the teir 2 agent told me, and he basically called him a liar. Saying it was only RROD's and didn't know why I was told that.

So I told him, well even without that I have an extended Warranty, so no problem. He claims to have no record of it, I'm like I have the paper right here in front of me. He then gave me the whole bullshit routine of, you need to write a letter, which is where I stopped him and told him I've done that and recieved no reply what so ever from them.

He puts me on hold for litterally 15 mins, and then comes back from talking with his supervisor, and says you have to write a letter. At this point I'm furious, and ask to speak to someone above him. Which he actually questions me on.

So then I'm on hold another 10 mins waiting for this "higher being" and low and behold, it was his fucking supervisor. Supposidly, he's going to be checking into it with the service contract department for me, and "calling me back" in 2 days. I don't hold much hope, but this whole things just irks me.

I mean, this is all because a MS, doesn't want to lose money. I'm not trying to cheat them, I have a legit contract from them that was purchased. I Just want my console fixed. This is the 3rd or 4th system I've had from them, can't remember. I'm tempted to sell the thing, get some money, buy a seperate HD DVD player for the movies I have, and move on, with only my PS3 and Wii.

After 4 weeks of waiting for my box i called xbox support. The girl i got never said what happened, but she confirmed my info, canceled my repair order, and put in another with "high priority".

Hopefully this will fix the problem. My PS3 just died as well, so needless to say, i'm getting kinda pissed off with next gen consoles.
No receipt necessary since your purchase is linked to your membership..... any costco store is fine..... I would just bring in the console for an exchange and keep your harddrive.
Wait, how do they know you bought it there? It comes up in the computer?

I might return my one now and rebuy it. It's been acting very strangely, sometimes even scratching up discs slightly...

Well my cousin and I went to Microcenter to do the exchange... The actually had the nerve to tell us that the 2 year unlimited exchange program is actually only good for 90 days and that since it's over 90 days, he has to take it in for repairs instead of exchange. We argued with the manager who talked to another manager and about 10 minutes later she came back with another refurb. The manager said that because it red ringed , it has to go back to microsoft, anything else the store will cover. When i asked about my system that has been having problems but not yet red ringed, she said that I could return mine for an exchanged. So in a few days I will have another 360 that will hopefully play halo 3 again :)

yay, this is good news.

oh the thing that killed his 360? Rush Hour 3 from hollywood video.

So I spoke with Nicole on Xbox Support yesterday. Extremely helpful and it took about 10 minutes. My coffin should come around Tuesday/Wednesday. Should get my 360 around mid February.

Question: are the 360s ever new or do they usually come new? Any chance of getting a falcon/HDMI

This has been repeated several times already. Chances of getting falcon/HDMI unit is slim to none. According to what I read:

-They might just fix it, pop in a new heat sink and send it back.

-They might do that plus put in a new barcode/serial number on it.

-They might give you someone elses 360 :O

checked my xbox status over the phone yesterday. they said i should be getting it in about 5 business days. yay! not even two weeks and its already on its way back.

Well, the manager actually called me back tonight and said he's giving me a free repair, and to send in copies of my service contract so they can further look into that issue.

He's sending me a box for the power brick, because I guess they conducted some research and found out that some 360's are getting too much power which causes them to freeze, or have errors I guess
