Official Final Fantasy VI Advance Thread. Release date: 02/05/07

Did a bit of Googling and Nintendo is definitely not producing one. It sucks because it would have been nice to have a complete collection of guides for the Advance titles (FF I & II, IV, V, VI). Hopefully Brady will release one. Really odd though, VI is more anticipated than IV and V combined yet no guide. From GS forums:

http://www.gamespot.com/gba/rpg/finalfantasyviadvance/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-33127193&pid=930370

I emailed Nintendo asking if they would be producing a strategy guide for FFVI Advance. Here is their response:

"While I can appreciate your interest in obtaining a Player's Guide for Final Fantasy VI Advance, Nintendo has not produced a guide book for this particular title. Our company is limited to the number of Player's Guides that we can release each year, therefore, we only produce guides for the most challenging games that are anticipated to be in high demand. For additional information on additional sources of game play assistance, please visit the Game Play Help section of our website."

That is too bad about nintendo not doing a guide.. Well, a little less money to spend. Gotta admit, i used the FFV and FF3 ones a lot.

Is FF6 not challenging and popular?! I will vomit if Nintendo dropped a guide for Diddy kong Racing, but not this.

Nintendo's guides for these games are garbage anyways... for IV, they didn't even cover the bonus dungeons at all, so what the fuck is the point of a guide for the re-release?

Nearly Got this today.. Found it at a Best Buy around here.. but the asshat 40 year old balding fat white guy running the register wouldn't take any of the $5 coupons because they were copies. Really pissed me off, but I guess I've never been turned down for any GGC or other printed coupon deals so it'll happen eventually.

I've got a pre-order thats paid off, it just doesn't come in until tomorrow at GameCrazy..

Back to Rogue Galaxy.. wow.
Shit, might have to check BB tonight then.
Same here. Might have to make a late drive to BB, if I have the time tonight.

I am attempting to finish Phoenix Wright 2 soon, so that I can devote all my time to FFVI

I'll be picking it up tomorrow and dusting off the GBA player.

Oh yeah I was reading on Gamefaqs (always take what I read there with a grain of salt) but "Son of a Submariner!"has been changed to "Son of a Sandworm!". Also a few monster names have been changed.

I hope they didn't edit too much...

According to the RPGamer.com review, some of the Esper names have changed too. Tritoch is now Valigarmanda and Palidor is now Queztalli. Moogle Charm has been renamed the Molulu's Charm.

It's a re-translation direct from the Japanese script... some things are going to be changed but these are the names that were always intended, for the most part.

FFV had it's fair share of changes too.

It looks like none of the character names have changed (besides the moogles other than Mog), so it doesn't bother me any.

If you need your purist fix, wait a year or two for the VC release.

This release is going to be fun for me, because I'll get to replay one of my all-time favorites yet again, while having something to complain about (all the minor changes).

In reality, most of these changes don't bother me in the slightest, but it'll be fun anyway. :)

Gave it a test run for about 20 minutes. No noticeable slowdown (though I haven't experienced multiple on-screen characters like the Moogle part) and they already changed a few things (Vicks is now Biggs in the game). I'm still kinda in shock that I am playing Final Fantasy III (SNES) on a handheld because this was the "epic" RPG back when I was a wee lad.

I noticed a slight difference in the sound, not too bad.
Just picked it up at Wal-Mart and they only got in SIX copies today! Yikes. Looks like Square might be under anticipating sales on this one.

Man I really wanted this but I just got sucked into the Dark Tower series by Stephen King and I don't wanna get it now because I need to finish a few of the books for now and then I need to beat Zelda still...Man, these games are breaking my balls

I was wondering if that would be the case. This usually happens at the end of a console's life cycle. Better pick this one up now boys. $25 after GGC looks to be the best deal out there right now.

Grabbed the last copy at the Southdale Best Buy about a half an hour ago. Lucky me, because for some reason I was thinking it came out tomorrow.

Hmm...now that you mention it, there were only 6 copies at my BB as well. I think I got the 2nd copy. I got there right at 2:00 PM and they didn't even get a chance to place them in security cases. They were sitting on an employee cart in a rectangular cardboard box with 5 of them in a row (I guess that is how they get them from the distributors).

Is it bad if I hear static from my Micro when headphones are plugged in?

I hear the sound of course, but there's static/hiss in the background.

Had to dust off my Micro for this one.
Oh my baby, it's so sweet. Oh FFVi...
I'll be picking it up tomorrow and dusting off the GBA player.
You're going to play it on the GB Player? It's a portable! Why not just plug in the SNES?
I get the faint 'ocean noise' through headphones on most gba games regardless of system (gba, sp, ds, micro.)
Nah, this can't be natural.
My DS and orginal GBA are crisp, though I know about the sound you're talking about.

Dammit, my Best Buy and Circuit City both didn't have it...and with Hotel Dusk wrapping up tonight, this throws a giant monkey wrench into my gaming plans.

Good thing I can still read this thread without fear of spoilers. :)

OH NOEZ MAYBE ITS THE RAREZ!!?!?!?

Cmon, please, give me a break... when those six copies at your store sells, then they will get sent another six copies. I highly doubt Square / Nintendo underanticipated the demand of one of their most popular FF games.

Man, this mentality on CAG that everything must somehow be rare is getting annoying, and the number of copies a store in your area gets is somehow tied into the future of the product. My EB only got in six copies of Gears of War when it came out, maybe it is also the rarez?!

And the game isn't even published by Square, it's published by Nintendo, and no way Nintendo underproduces a game it knows will be popular.

Picked up mine at CC today - - last copy. Also, I got a free Ghiardelli dark chocolate bar with it as some kind of promotion.

Picked up two copies at TRU. One copy for myself and one for a good friend of mine, who couldn't find it.

I finished up Phoenix Wright 2 earlier than expected, so I can't wait to dig into this game.

Also.....go Roufuss

Neither FFIV or FFV are really that hard to find, which should indicate how rare this one will be.

Well if the Wife wants to use the DS and such, yes I will play it on my GBA player. Although the sound is alot better on the DS then my actual TV, and It is better suited for a portable, but when it comes down to it I'm going to be using my GBA player here and there. I also don't own a SNES, and there is too much lag/down time on the PS1 port so I picked up this GBA version.

The sound is only thing imho that puts this game down. Removing glitchs and one of Kefka's lines doesn't hamper the game in anyway so far.

As for the game being rare? Well I didn't think it would be ultra rare, but putting out only six copies or less per store means Nintendo/Square thought this game wasn't going to sell as well, or perhaps they learned with FFV which is pretty damn easy to find and I'm suprised hasn't dropped to $20 yet as FFIV did.

The last Final Fantasy game I enjoyed and probably my second favorite game of all time. I can not wait to get this! And yes Locke is the fuckin' man! Locke had more character development then all the characters from 7, 8, 9, and X put together.
Yes.

Locke and Cyan and Shadow FTW.

Edger and Sabin closely follow.
Thank God they didn't change the names... if Sabin was now "Mash," he would cease to be my favorite character.

Though the GBA version is already set to disappoint me a little bit, as the Blitz sequences will have to be changed somewhat do to button limitations.

hmmm... if I couldn't get into FF1, 2, or 4, is there a chance I'll dig this? It seems like the one RPG that is universally praised that I haven't played, though RPGs in general do nothing for me.

Anyone else never play it or never dig the genre and decide to pick this up to give it a go?

FF6 and Chrono Trigger are generally considered the high points of the 16 bit RPG genre (excluding their closest competition, which was the Lunar series, since it came later and was on CD).

It would be very difficult to dislike these games, even if you are only a casual gamer, or haven't played RPGs in general. However, if the genre doesn't suit you, it doesn't suit you, and there's very little one can do about that. I don't care how great the newest baseball game is - I'm not going to play it.

That said, I'd really suggest giving it a go. I imagine if you didn't like it, you could trade it on here pretty easily.

Side Note: Others will say I left out Mario RPG. Others will include Breath of Fire 1/2 or Lufia 1/2.

Personally I think Earthbound (Mother, in Japan) towers above even these giants, but that's a personal preference thing.

I already owned FF 1&2 (GBA), FF 3 (DS), FF IV (GBA), FF: Tactics (GBA). I'll be waiting for FFV and FF VI (GBA) drop down $20 somday... I need times to play my backlog games & not hurry buying it. I also, had FF X, FFX-2 and unfinished FF XII :(

PS. I don't think FF VI is rare or hard to find. You'll see tons of this game on the shelves after this week.

I just left South Figaro in my game and the joy of gaming is rushing back!!!!! It is amazing how certain games can leave me feeling dull and uninterested in gaming, but this game can get my blood flowing even through my 5th play-thru. As for some of the changes, I don't mind them at all so far. The active-battle system is ported and timed perfectly, which is what I was most worried about, considering FFIV for GBA, which IMHO basically RUINED Kane's Jump Ability.

Just ordered my copy from Circuit City w/ the remains of a GC. I won't get to play it for awhile, but I'll be adding it to the stack of games to play when this semester is over.

My RPG list that I've played is small, but I've enjoyed the ones I've gotten into. FF7, Super Mario RPG, and Chrono Trigger would be the three I've played. I've tried the aforementioned FF games, Earthbound (sorry!), Breath of Fire 3 (? It was on Playstation I think), and Skies of Arcadia, and wasn't really able to feel any of them. But, as FF6 is so praised, I'll give it a shot. :)

THANK YOU!

I mean geez, its simply a matter that stores don't like carrying huge inventories anymore. They get more numerous smaller shipments now. Its more cost effiecient for them/

More importantly for them, it increases demand and shows steady sales rates for a month after a game is released. Unless it's the WoW expansion, consumer demand doesn't require them to have hundreds of copies on the day of release. That, and if you have to go into Best Buy once a week to find out if they have any more copies, you're more likely to see something else you want to buy.

PM me if you don't like it and want to part with it; I only say that b/c you didn't like FFIV. The gameplay mechanic, like in most RPGs, is pretty straightforward - if you played FFIV, you'll understand how FFVI is going to work. It's better, and different in ways, but largely very similar underneath. Depending on your reasons for disliking FFIV, you may not like VI any more.

son of a sandworm, this game rules.

this game isnt teh rarez either, the walmart nearest to me had almost 2 rows full... at 29.99 too. not 34.99.

DOH!
I just realized they'd have to change the Blitz combinations!
Darn 4 button Gameboy.

Maybe we'll see a PSP release like FFI and FFII.

Whoa, first I've seen anything about that PSP release. If it's released here it might finally give me a 4th reason to get a PSP.

My FFVI status: Uhh...not too far. First save point after waking up in the house in Narshe.
