Official LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS Thread !

Somewhere between a 1/3 and a 1/2 I'd say. There's still a lot of dungeon action, but generally less dinking around between dungeons that is necessary, if you're playing like I was and just trying to rush to the end. ;) But I can easily say that most of the best parts of the game are ahead of you. Also, how'd you like that statue moving puzzle? That was the one thing I FAQed in the game. Ugh.
Yeah, that was my second "I hate this shit, where's my guide?" moment; the first being the moment of stupidity in the 3rd dungeon. I'm playing pretty much how you are. I don't avoid side quests, but nowadays on my first play through I just play the main game for the most part. But that's good. So hopefully it'll only take me another 20-30 hours, which is almost doable by the end of the year.

I just finished the 4th dungeon last night and about 28 hours in.

Regarding the spoiler conversation...

I spent about 15 minutes on the statue moving puzzle. Got pissed. Watched TV for a bit. Came back to it and figured it out on my 3rd try. I doubt I could do it again. I've been really happy that I haven't had to resort to my guide yet for anything except to see what heart pieces I've left behind in areas outside of the dungeons.

Concerning the spoiler...

I actually got that on my first try in just a few minutes. Of course my first try was my second try since the first move I made had the statue jump on me and start over, but yeah, I think I got lucky.

28 hours? what am i doing wrong here, i tried to drag out the game as far as possible, fishing, collecting all kinds of stuff and whatever, i love it and dont want it to end, but i was finished with it under 30 hours, what am i missing here, what do you guys do beside the main story.

Also, anyone found a shooting gallery?

I've just really taken my time and have done a lot of the side missions that are available. I probably could have gotten a good deal further in the time that I've put in, but I'm really enjoying the world and have spent a lot of time just riding/running around in it.

Damn, I wanna spoiler something with it actually being a spoiler for the majority of you. Unfortunately, I'm only 7.5 hours in.

Anyone else notice the phallic imagery in
(ironically) the snake-light-spirit room?

It reminded me of the recent South Park episode with Al Gore. "...and these of course, are the 'two sisters'. "

That puzzle took me forever. I really had to think about it and plan some moves in advance.
No one has an answer to my bottle question?
After beating the game I had 3 bottles, though I never got one fishing, so maybe there are 4?

oil guy, helping the lady, fishing

Please post your 3. Thanks.
Get yourself 20 Poe souls, my friend.

I'm in the exact same place as botticus. Weird. I didn't FAQ the puzzle daroga mentioned, but it did take me 20-30 minutes of random tries to complete it.

About that part in the sacred grove:
Did the guys that fall down from the trees freak anyone else out? It's not like they even did any damage to me, but they were creepy.

Also, I'm seeing SO many design lifts from "Princess Mononoke" and "Spirited Away" and I'm only 2/5 through the game. Not a bad thing, as if you're going to crib, crib from the best. But still. Examples:

- The wolf motif, ala PM.

- Design of the spirits you restore to each part of Hyrule by collecting the tears bear a striking resemblance and manner to the nature spirits/gods in PM and SA (especially the one in Faron Woods).

- When you kill the bosses and minibosses corrupted by the Twilight, they melt away into black goo, revealing their original form or some concealed item, identical to SA and to a lesser extent the end of PM.

- The click-rotating faces of the enemies in the Sacred Grove where you get the Master Sword are obviously inspired by the forest spirits in PM, whose heads click-rotated in the same fashion.

There's probably more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

At 31 hours I just finished the 6th dungeon, or at least I think 6th anyway it's the
temple of time
. As far as the bottles go, can you explain the
fishing
one to me soonersfan? Right now I just have the 3.

extra bottle
My son was fishing random places for fun with the "earring" hook he got from the Zora prince. He got a can, a bag of rupees, something else, and one time he got a bottle. This weekend we will get the last 2 poe's we need to get to 20 and make sure this is actually a 4th bottle that is available in the game, or perhaps the poe's will give us something else now. If you need more explicit instructions, I will try to have my son show me this weekend where he was fishing when he found the bottle.

I think a lot of that stuff is from Japanese mythology, PA and SA just borrowed it from myths and Zelda has done the same.

Ughh I haven't touched Zelda in a week. I'm in the third dungeon
in the Big Key room. I thought I was gonna have a hard time with the 3rd dungeon, but I actually blew through it pretty fast...until it was time to get the Big Key.
I just haven't had time. Hopefully I'll be able to log some time this weekend. I'm itching to get back.

Did you check your back pocket?

26:55 and I'm still in dungeon #4.
Last night I played for about an hour and I managed to find the last 3 poes. They were pretty well hidden and I really felt like I figured something out that was non-obvious when I found each one. I love this game so much - each puzzle is hard enough to make me a little nuts but I always figure it out right before wanting to throw the Wiimote across the room. I do want to get out and spend some time in the overworld though - I really haven't done any exploring yet.
At least make sure you open every chest or you will be missing out... I wish the developers would tweak two things:

1. Have the option to play on a harder difficulty - make the potions matter. Back in the day, I remember going into the 9th dungeon with 2 red potions and hoping it would be enough.
2. Make money actually hard to come by and make things really expensive - remember the Blue Ring or Zora's Flippers? It took a while to save for that shit.
1. I agree with you. This game certainly wasn't a walk in the park like Wind Waker was (I think it was harder than OoT, too), but like most Zeldas, once I start racking up the hearts, I no longer fear death. Still, I remember I used to htink A Link to the Past was hard...but once I got used to it, I didn't have a problem. Maybe we're just old timers that have seen too many battles to really have a good challenge from Zelda anymore? They really should have upscaled the damage enemies later in the game do to you.

2. I think I prefer this to taking an hour out of my epic quest to save the world to cut grass, but they did go overboard with it. Cut down the ruppes by about 25% and they'd have it perfect.

The world felt too different for me to want to do this anyway...but hey, at least some of the flipped locations match up with LttP now! :)

To answer all bottle-related questions:
I had 4 bottles by the time I finished the game: Oil Guy, helping the lady, 20 Poes, and fishing. The spot you find the bottle in (at least for me, I don't know if it appears elsewhere) was in the water in the fishing hole, right next to the sign that says something like "NO LITTERING! Keep our fishing hold clean." Makes sense, right?

I think I must have thrown a glitch or something preventing me from getting all 60 poes? I've been searching for a week now and even double checked to the FAQ on gamefaqs. I simply cannot find that last damn Poe.

I'm *almost* willing to restart but when I'm this close I really don't want to.
Did you check your back pocket?

Not sure what you meant by that, but
for some reason I had a hard time getting to the chamber above the Big Key.
Then again, I had just spent the evening plowing through the dungeon, so I was probably burnt out. When I picked it up tonight, I reached it within minutes. I find when I get stuck, getting away from it for awhile helps a lot. Of course then I'm sitting there saying, "how did I not see that before?"

Just beat it. Took 30 hours, not really doing much else but the main quest.

Definitely one of the best Zelda games ever. I like it better than OOT, but not more than LttP or the original Zelda.

I'm also 40 hours into FFXII, and I think TP actually has a better story. Midna is easily one of the neatest characters in a video game.

I played the Wii version today for almost 2 hours. While it was kind of cool at the beginning...I'm going to have to go GC version for this. I was contemplating holding off until I got a Wii, but after I played it...idk...it plays fine, but there was just something I didn't like about it. Very awesome game though and I'm picking up the GC version tomorrow hopefully :D

Oh, and I'm surprised no one is complaining about Gamespot giving the GC version .1 higher than the Wii version

How is it possible to beat this game in 30 hours the first time through with no help? It doesn't seem possible...

I'm at the boss for dungeon 4 and about 28 hours in.

I find the controls suprisingly refreshing and engaging. It took me a good 5 or so hours (until finishing the first dungeon) before I really warmed up to the controls. To me, the beauty of the controls isn't that its so much more intuitive than pressing A, but that it brings me that extra step to immersion. I still don't like the laggy aiming though, however, it's still worlds better than analog stick.

And completion in 30 hours? Congrats, because unless I can finish six dungeons in 10 hours, I don't think I'll be hitting that mark.
Anyone have any help with where to get the red fish?
I'm guessing that you're talking about the fish that you need to get through the mountain mission. Show the picture that you received to Prince of the Zora's. Hopefully that helps.

I did that... it didn't help.
He said something about the basin near his village and a mother & child island. My son doesn't know where he means, and I haven't watched him play that part enough to be much help. We went back to Zora's domain and fished near the throne. We also tried the two islands (which were flashing) at Lake Hylia. We couldn't fish from the tall one (we ony have the pole, not the rod if that matters), but we didn't see any red fish and only caught the typical ones.

The mother and child islands are at the base of the water fall near the Zora throne room on the, left side of the map I believe. They're just two rocks jutting out from the water, on taller one and one smaller one. If you swim near them you should see some red fish in the watter. Just hop onto dry ground nearby and cast your hook and you should get one quickly. Again, where you want to be is AT THE BASIN NEAR THE ZORA THRONE ROOM, so head to the throne room, and then leap off the waterfall. That's the basin.
.

Below the throne room (down the waterfall) is a big pools with Zoras. As you come down the waterfall, to the left, are two stones sticking out of the water. Go to the land to the left of those ("Mother and Child" rocks I think). You'll see the red fish in that area. And then remember, those things SMELL BAD!
Hope that helps! :)

Just beat the 4th dungeon...I thought the 3rd was good...4th was too. This game just keeps getting better. Just wondering what is the difference between save time and total play time?

I'm at the boss for dungeon 4 and about 28 hours in.

Well, it says 30 hours on my save file saved right before the final encounter.

I've played every Zelda game ever made (well, I only saw the CD-i Zelda in infomercials, but you get the idea). I kind of "know" what they are going for when they design the world, bosses, and dungeons. Didn't use any kind of outside help whatsoever.

I can second this and it seems a lot of folks over at Penny Arcade are saying the same thing. I had all the heart pieces but 7, 40+ poes and all the item upgrades standing at the last boss' door at 33 hours. I made it through the last dungeon in just over an hour. Since I've gotten into such a groove of plowing through my backlog I can perfect through one home console game and one portable game (FF's aside because of the grind to 99 and bestiary) a week. I really did savor the experience but if you're in the habit of grinding through games you're in the habit and the game is just going to fly by.
Just beat the 4th dungeon...I thought the 3rd was good...4th was too. This game just keeps getting better. Just wondering what is the difference between save time and total play time?
Save time is just a timestamp of what time of day you saved the game. Sort of like a timeclock at work. It uses the military standard. I don't know why this was put it in either.

Play time is your total play time.

Beat it today. 45 1/2 hours at my last save before the final boss. That was a straight play through without using a guide.

Didn't bother much with side quests. Still need to find the 3rd armor, 2 more bottles, any wallet upgrades. I only have 19 poes and maybe 3 or 4 golden bugs, I have 14 4/5's hearts etc.. I never came across the lure fishing part or the canoing part I've seen pictures of, nor the cave of ordeals that I've heard about on other forums.

So I still have a ton to do!

Great game. A definite 10/10. Easily my favorite Zelda and pretty close to being my all time favorite game period. Perfectly balance difficulty (never got frsturatining or boring), great pacing, huge world to explore, tons of hidden stuff, epic boss battles, and on and on. It just doesn't get much better than that.

You guys make me sad. Rush rush rush. I'm at 32 hours and I'm just about to start the fourth dungeon. Meanwhile, I've been having tons of fun exploring. I've collected 10 bugs, about 15 Poe souls three bottles, wallet upgrade, etc. etc. and I'm having a great time exploring leisurely.

I hope I get this for Christmas! It will definitely be the GC version (Since I dont have the Wii, and I also like regular controls and camera control is a must for me), and I definitely won't be using a guide. And you can bet I'll be taking my darn sweet time as well. I looooved Wind Waker (Never played OOT), and Wind Waker is actually the only Zelda I ever really played through and it was like my favorite game ever. So...ya havent been so excited about a game for a loong time.

I finally got all the hearts and all the bugs and most of the Poes. What do I get if I get all the Poes? Is it worth it or should just beat the game?
