Official LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS Thread !

fishing was easy, it was just figuring out where to fish exactly, cus I kept fishing, then the fish would go away, but then I did it... well nevermind don't wanna spoil, GAMES GREAT! :p

Yeah, once that first fishing experience was satisfactorily completed, watching the ensuing event was very satisfying.

Calling down the hawk the first time was also a "Gee whiz" moment.

The fishing is thoroughly explained in the instruction manual.

the slingshot is in the old lady's shop (first house on the right from Link's house) for 30 rupees. You have to get her her cat back first though.
-G

But a few times the fishing said "Fish On." Do you mean I don't need to wait for that? Also, one time I caught a fish and it recorded it in the book, but I couldn't give it to the cat. How do I do that? Dangle the rod in front of him or push a combo of buttons?

I can't wait to play this in December... hopefully they don't cancel the GC version.

Also, it can't be an Action RPG without numerical stats of some sort, levels and such. At its core Zelda is an Action/Adventure and always has been.

Nice to know that they at least explain fishing somewhat in the manual (aside from the story intro, I only skimmed it). It would have been a simple task to incorporate a brief how-to in the pole's in-game description though; it only explains how to cast your line

Ok, another question about the slingshot

did anyone else have a hard time getting the cat to go to the house? i'm going to kill this thing i don't know how to do it

Don't read unless you want the beginning of the game kind of ruined...

You need to
(1) use the grass (2) to call the bird (3) to knock the cradle from the monkey (4) to get the lady to give you the fishing rod (5) to catch a fish (6) to give to the cat who will then go home (7) and then you can buy the slingshot.

Figuring this stuff out on my own is why I'm at 4:56 played and still not in the first dungeon. This is a really fun game and it does seem like it will take 70 hours to finish.

another question with the slingshot..

do i use the grass from on top of the hill by that guy or no?
alllright fishing question

do i have to use bait when fishing for ...a fish for the cat?
Nope

I guess I'm a little confused about the Forrest Temple:

Was freeing the monkey and the girl the end of the Forrest Temple?

I haven't gone back to the game in a day or so, I've been having fun playing Red Steel and having multiplayer Wii Sports / Monkey Ball matches...but I think where I last saved was:
where I was first made the wolf and I'm in the cage, and told to find a way out to find out WHY I'm a wolf.
I don't really want to know HOW to do it (I haven't tried yet), but give me this hint: is it pretty straight forward, or is this something that will take some time to get myself out of?

It took me and three people watching me play about 15 minutes to figure out. We felt like idiots once we did though.

for every Zelda dungeon in any zelda game, as far as I know-- It's not over till you've found the map, compass, master key, new weapon/item, and fought the dungeon boss.

specifically for this dungeon:
you need to find all the monkeys to get to the end boss

how every zelda session goes down:

1. I'm in the dungeon, get a little stuck
2. eventually pass the first few tiny puzzles
3. I get super stuck. I circle the dungeon a few times.
4. an hour or two goes by and me and everyone in the room are cursing the entire Zelda franchise. "wtf!!! Why can't they put in some goddamn hints!!!?"
5. eventually figure it out and zelda is awesome again.

QFT. Zelda rules.

fishing.. again..
whenever is says fish up or whatever i start doing the reeling motion with the nunchuck but it seems like the fish dissapears.. do i press any buttons while doing this or.. what?

Also, do I have to wait for the game to say "Fish On?" Others talked about just watching the bobber. Please help because my son is very frustrated and about ready to give up on the game also. I only tried it once for about 20 min. but couldn't get it. He caught one fish, but somehow it disappeared (hit the wrong button, I guess). It shows up in his fishing log, but I am guessing he threw it back by mistake.

Let me re-explain the explanation earlier in this thread that I read on beating the first fishing part:

1) Press B, cast your line.
2) After about 15 seconds or so the bobber will start to sink below the surface.
3) The bobber is colorred from bottom to top something like: Red, Yellow, Green, Yellow, Red. When the Yellow (2nd from top) goes under water, put the remote directly above your shoulder (I faced the Wiimote either straight up or directly away from the screen, I don't recall). When this happens, it should say "Fish On"
4) DO NOT MOVE The Wiimote, it's not necessary (For this fishing pole) to do anything but hold the Wiimote up high.
5) I had to catch a 2nd fish for the cat plot.

Thanks. And then how is giving the fish to the cat accomplished? Last time he "dropped" the fish or something so I want to tell him exactly what to do.

Okay now Im really lsot

Forest temple spoilers

so I have 3 monkeys and nowhere to go, the only two places I can think of that I havent figured out are the wind bridges in one area, the wind bridge in an enclosed area with guards one ach side and in one of the rooms with a tresure chest behind a gate with the wind catchers, all three have wind in common but I cant figure it out.

and the place with the cut down bridge

The first time you catch a fish, it explains the fish log, and forces you to drop it. The next time you catch a fish, you drop it onto the dock and the cat grabs it. At least that's what happened to me, I had a "WTF" moment when the cat didn't take the fish the first time as well.

Have you seen the boulder that is blocking a path? You need to dispose of it. Hint: Check the room with those short, fat plants.

I think I may have seen a boulder, but as far as short fat plants go, do you mean the room with the two plants you have to bomb in the room before you get the third monkey?

No it's not that room. I didn't want to be too specific but I guess I should've - sorry! There was a room that when you walk in, to the right one of those fat plants is blocking a chest. Lots of grass. At the other end of the room is some stairs and halfway up there is another fat plant sitting there. At the top of the stairs is a bomb plant, you go to the right and follow that walkway. You'll come to a doorway/path that is blocked by a boulder. You need to go through there next.

You have to pick up one of those bomb insects and throw it against the boulder. Some parts I had to figure out as well but its always been throw bomb at something if you cant figure it out. At least in that Dungeon..

I guess I'm just too slow throwing the bomb, I couldn't get it across that gap
its alot more fun when it doesnt frustrate you to the point of not playing it and not having fun
No shit and WTF was the point of the
spoiler tag.?
You ass. :D

I'm past the third dungeon, doing side stuff now. 23 hours. 3rd took me over 3 hours, was really quite wonderfully challenging.

Finally beat the first temple

The new boomerang is freaking awesome.

I only got stuck (badly) twice in the forest temple, once was the bombing of the wall (I didn't realize you could jump the gap with an object in this game) and finding the master key (I apparently completely forgot about it until I got to the boss area).

And I was awestruck when I first walked into Hyrule field, amazing.

Just over 5 hours played, loving it.
