Official Sears Clearance Thread II - post Sears finds/deals here
You do it at the register, basically they input all your info off of your drivers license, and then you input your social & yearly income range into the keypad (im guessing so the cashier cant see it) then it spits out some receipts and they give you the $15 gc. I'm sure I was approved as I have pretty good credit (always pay my bills completely when they come). While the inquiry make take a few points off, it never hurts to have another CC and a bit more liquidity.
Hopefully it's that quick and painless for me too, since I just want the $15 gc.:D I remember when Mongomery Ward was still in biz, they had some halfway decent Cross knockoff pen/pencil sets as 'gifts' for trying to sign up for the store credit card.

I think I had like 12 of them at one point. They made good(free) Christmas presents for a couple years.

I work at SEARS and can tell you that yes you get hit on your credit report and the $15 is off your first purchase if approved. That deal is on all year round unless they are truly offering gift cards, I only work weekends so not sure what promotions are currently running. I have to check on the 360 HDDs.

My credit report sucks anyway. And it's only $15 off IF approved? I'll have to ask before I go through with it then. If that's the case, then they can stick the card up their ass.

This past weekend you could have gotten a box of chocolates just for applying ;). We were at a local Sears store this past Saturday and they made the annoucement over the intercom.

Why would any company in their right mind give $15 to people that can't even qualify for a SEARS credit card.

Never underestimate the stupidity of Sears! :)

I know Target did this a couple of months ago except it was 50% a purchase JUST for applying. The person in front of me in line was offered this and she said she wouldnt get approved and the cashier said dont worry, its only for applying, you dont have to get approved for anything.
It can go on your credit report if you get denied, which may be a red flag at some point down the road.
Getting denied credit does not go on your credit report. When you apply for a credit card (or loan, etc) a credit inquiry goes on your file. An inquiry by itself isn't a negative thing. It just shows you are looking for credit. Even if you get a few inquiries at the same time, as long as they make sense, its fine. For example, when you are shopping around for a new credit card or home mortgage or car loan--you aren't going to go to just one place and get one quote.

What hurts your credit is when you have a pattern of repeatedly seeking credit. Like a card application, followed by a car loan app, by another cc app, etc.

Once you take on a credit line (card, loan, etc) then that company will report back to the credit bureaus about the ongoing status of your loan.

I'm not in the industry, but I worked at a financial company that did have a huge bank attached to it. And this is what I learned from chatting with those guys. Your report consists of companies inquiring about your credit and the status of your ongoing loans. Companies do not report back that you were denied credit. That would be a double-ding. You were denied credit because they didn't like your credit report, they aren't going to add another negative mark to your credit report in addition to the ones that got you denied in the first place. If you are being denied a lot, that will result in a pattern of seeking credit (lots of inquiries) and that will be what hurts you. Not the fact that you were denied credit.

If someone in the industry knows otherwise and can correct me, please do.

Woo hoo. Free bump in my blood sugar count.;) I'd rather the $15 gc if the offer is true.:D

Because they know I'm a nice guy? Personally, I hate that this country runs on 'credit' and how good/bad your 'score' is. That's why there's so many people in serious debt in this country because they spend WAYYYY beyond their means and keep spending.

If I don't have the CASH to buy something, I don't need that item, simple as that.

YES!:applause:

Modern day serfdom. I heard Suzie Orman "queen of FICO scores" was getting some kind of sponsorship money from that company during the last bubble, while pushing the importance of the FICO score.

The FICO score is used by big banks and credit issuers today, the way the fear of going to hell was used by the Church when they controlled the world. Its a way of mainpulating peoples behavior to their own benefit.

Google Dave Ramsey for more info about this off-topic subject.

Ditto. I only buy with cash or my debit card. My parents taught me to not get a credit card until I could afford to pay it off, so I haven't gotten one yet.

Cash also leaves no paper/electronic trail.

I pay with a credit card for almost every purchase, it is nice to earn rewards. I pay off my balance in full every month otherwise I wouldn't use it. A free $15 GC sounds nice but I don't need another card.

The deal is $15 off the first purchase with a Sears card if you're approved and NOT a $15 gc whether or not you get approved. That kinda sucks, but then again my closest Sears had NO copies of the Fallout 3 GOTY edition or WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 09 for PS3.

There was an empty spot where FO3 GOTY should've been and only a lone copy of SD v R 08($30) and SD v R 10($60). Oh well. I'm set to be hitting the other Sears round here this weekend, so hopefully the copies of FO3 GOTY that were there still are this weekend. If not, no biggie, since I'm not sure if I want it or not at this point.

Exactly! When I was in college I applied for a Discover card in case of emergencies and for whatever stupid giveaway they had at the booth . I have had that card for about 13 years now and I have made money off of them with their cash back bonus program. I charge some of my monthly bills to it (as well as some larger items I have saved up for), pay the bill in full every month, collect my cash back bonus, rinse, and repeat.

Since I've gotten the card I've probably made at least $700 off of them.

Wow.. Off topic much?

Anyways.

Checked Burnsville, Eden Prairie and Ridgedale Sears in Minnesota today... No Fallout 3 GOTY :(

If you can pay cash, you can afford a CC. Just don't charge anything you can't pay off. CC = cash back rewards.

more importantly, it helps build credit
more importantly, it helps build credit
EXACTLY.

A cc is basically "practice" to show you can handle your credit. Because, even though we'd love to live in a cash-only society, how many of us have enough cash to pay for a car, a house, etc in full? Maybe 3-5%? If you think you are smart by avoiding all credit when you are younger, you are in for a rude awakening when you need to take a loan for a big, necessary expenditure.

Sorry to keep going OT.

And blame people for not handling their credit right. The info is out there, but people are too dumb and too lazy to bother (this doesn't include victims of outright swindlers). Hell, we know smoking kills and people still do it. We know about diet/exercise and yet we're still an obese country. Etc, etc.

Don't get me started on people who pay RETAIL for video games!.....

I know. It's a losing battle here. Hopefully, a mod will come in and clean house.

Has anyone had any success doing return/rebuys for sears clearance items? I have a copy of MPT and NGS2 that I'd like to return/rebuy if they get cheaper next month.

I usually never have a problem. One time, the store by me said that I needed to return the item to the store that the item was purchased at, though.

Tomb Raider Underworld is stickered at $29.99 but rang up at $14.99 at my sears (Burnsville, MN). Cheapest I have seen it, I think.

ugh someone must of picked up the lego batman I was eyeing at my sears...though it was probobly still full price cuz last time I check no clearence...it wasn't too much in vain...picked up
Spiderman Friend or foe for $4.97

thinking of reselling on amazon
anyone know if it's worth a go?
if anyone finds a LEGO BATMAN for PS3 on sale for 4.97 and wants to be a pal....i'd be cool with paying shipping cost....pm me
This is not the place to beg.
Spend just a few minutes looking around and you will find and entire area devoted to requests.

And most of your post are quite frankly lazy questions...
Do a lil reading and most if not all of your questions will be answered.

Looking forward to your first contribution.

I've noticed that from a bunch of newbies to the site as of late. They ask people to bend over backwards for them when they have yet to prove themselves to be a contributing member to the site.

Picked up Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for $29.97 at the Fresno CA Sears. Nothing is marked in the store at all (unlike the Clovis location) so there might be a possibility to let games sit at this location for further drops.

As far as what they had in stock besides NGS2; Fallout 3 GotY, Dirt 2 (360), Silent Hill Homecoming (PS3) & Lego Batman (PS3). There are probably further games in the racks, but I didn't feel the need to dig too far deep...

Hey do me a favor, go get a penny guide for me. I'll pay you $1 for shipping. So like $1.01.

Meanwhile, I got a penny guide too. But instead of offering it up for trade, I'm gonna sell dem shits on ebay!

....

I actually found Spiderman Web of Shadows for $4.97. Didn't realize Friend or Foe was also at that price. I saw Nascar 08 for $1.97 and still couldn't bring myself to buy it. :)

Hey now. There's plenty o' cash to be made from selling the better ones for more than the penny ya get 'em for(Tales Of Vesperia, Half Life: Raising The Bar, etc). Most are worth about a buck though, so those are gladly up for trade.:D Mind ya, I'd much rather just trade them here for games n other shit I want than go through the hassle(and fees) of Ebay.

But that's another thing I've been seeing alot of on here as of late. People who undervalue the shipping or demand you send such and such an item at the price they're willing to pay for shipping.

Hmm...didn't realize Lego Batman PS3 was going for some cheap @ Sears. I just picked it up along w/ Lego Indiana Jones PS3 for $13.98 each on clearance @ Target last week. Batman is the only one I've played so far, & even @ $13.98 it's quite fun. Only things I don't like is the lack of Trophies & the co-op AI is a bit dumb @ times. Other than that, a solid game.

What console? I might have to make another run there if there are anymore :(

Went to another Sears and scored 3 more Metroid Prime Trilogy's and 2 Mad World's. They still had a Fallout 3 GOTY and NGS2, plus some Dirt2's and Motostorm Pacific Rift's.

HOARDING!!!1!!111!!!!!

Nice score, I haven't seen any MP Trilogys at my Sears. I don't think they ever had any.

We found one of the creatures called El Hoardo!

What's the point of even hoarding all the Metroid's, it's not like 29.99 or whatever price it is is a rock bottom value. They currently only sell for about that much on eBay now anyways, so it's not like you're going to get a huge return on your investment.

Checked like 5 sears for MP trilogy with no luck . did run into one hell of a deal though . Karaoke revolution american idol game+mic bundles for the wii. $23 on clearance. Bought all 11 and the guy mistakenly rang me up for only 10. About $270 total. Sold 5 on ebay for $85 each

Nobody cares about how much profit you make.

I guess he is hoping that since they have stopped printing the Metroid Trilogy, the price will shoot up.

Maybe he's going to hide them under his bunkbed for a few years and then sell them as teh rarez on eBay.

Picked up MadWorld for $5 last night. Thanks, updaters.

Sorry wasnt trying to sound pompous. just trying to point out a sweet deal that maybe not everyone is aware of . The 360 /Ps3 versions are pretty much worthless. but the wii versions are scarce and go for alot of money, i was actually trying to contribute in a positive way, But whatever.

hey retard, maybe you should change your name to confused. I was pointing out a specific deal they had in sears. I merely pointed out what the profit margin was on Ebay. But I guess nobody cares about that kind of stuff and everybody already Knows about all deals everywhere. Im sorry oh wise ones. Ill just continue to just hoard the new deals and Dont worry Ill keep all deals to myself from now on, I do have a shitload of them already(I lOOOOVE NYC!!!)thanks alot for the time. and I do love this site except for the Flamers and losers that seem to be in abundance here, but thanks again, last [ost from me

Promise?

There's a bragging forum for that kind of nonsense. I bought up all 11 copies and everyone else in my area can suck it is not being helpful.

Plus, I flipped them for a bunch of money, go me!!!

Nobody will ever congratulate you on hording a bunch of games so you can flip them. If you do it, awesome, douchebag. You're keeping people who would be happy to buy ONE copy and enjoy it from getting it. :applause:

Actually I'm not hoarding the MP Trilogy's. I GAVE TWO copies to a friend who has loved Metroid since Super Metroid. He loves the Prime's too. He is also somewhat of a collector so one to play and one to keep as a collector's item. One of the others I will be keeping to play for myself. And the others I bought up because I know they are getting hard to find. I know they are not worth much on ebay so I will not be selling them like that I don't think. But figured they'd be good to trade with other CAG's who have not been so lucky to find them at their own local stores.
