These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

My BB rep is pretty cool; while he took my coupon, he let me get two copies (one for each system). I'll buy another magazine and get two more if values hold tomorrow.

Nintendogs took like 3 weeks and 3 different sales before it dropped, and the pilotwing/steeldiver flips lasted for at least a week too. GS doesn't seem to react as quickly as Best Buy or Amazon does to a sudden influx of a particular title.

Plus, even if it does tank, it'll likely go back up once this week's BB sale is over and all the flips dry up...

I don't know but I've got a feeling this Batman Deal is on a lot larger scale than Nintendogs.

Can't wait to find out today's values and I don't even have one to filp.

I miss the days when Blockbusters were almost as plentiful as Gamestops, and perfect storms happened several times per year.

One weekend, I spent several hours making a flipping cost/profit spreadsheet and plotting the best route for alternating Gamestop -> Blockbuster. After about $30 invested (plus about $20 in gas), I came away with 2 DS lites, an Xbox 360 and a PS3. Those were the days that are now a thing of the past...
 
Wanna hear my horror story? And Ill keep it short. Basically I spend all day acquiring 5 copies of Batman (one for myself, and two for each system to flip), and head to gamestop at the end of the day. Walk in with the sealed copies, and tell them I want to trade in. The employee turns to his manager and asks if they'll accept them. He immediately replies no to all of them cause their sealed--in a very power hungry, unbuttoned flannel, i still sleep in my mom's basement tone. I tell him Ill unwrap them there, but he says they wont take them. So I say Ill go to my car and unwrap them there, but he still says theyll make sure not to take them from me. Meanwhile he never really explains WHY they wont accept my trade-ins. I had my receipts to prove I didnt steal the items, but I guess Ill never understand gamestop logic. So before I get too hot headed in front of everyone (waited in line for fifteen minutes) I leave and the other employee tells me to go to the other gamestop literally a minute away.

This time I go with my games unwrapped, and my girlfriend carrying two games so I wasnt trading 4 in at once. I get there and they tell me they received an email saying not to accept trade-ins anymore for that game. When I asked them to clarify they had no real answer why, so I left. Now I have 4 unsealed copies of Batman lol. Later on, I realize the manager from the first store must have called the second store and told them I was coming and to not accept my trades. This seems to be true as other people were able to complete this trade late in the day even thoug I couldnt. So thats my story, if I wasnt done with gamestop forever before, I am now. I realize this is partly my fault, I shouldve unwrapped the games, and probably shouldnt have tried trading 4 at once, but oh well. Whats done is done.

For years, GameStop policy has been that they will NOT accept sealed copies of games and they will NOT accept more than 1 copy of a game per platform.

But didn't gamestops just open for the day around half an hour ago ? What if each store gets an update or something about a tiv drop later today or something ? I do hope it holds for another day or two. Either that or not as many people flipped it to gs than we think

If the Batman Arkham City TIV is above $15 I'll be extremely surprised. I'd be willing to be it'll be around the $10-$12 mark.

There were some stores around me that were no longer taking trade-ins after a phone call from their DM. Apparently he had emailed and was calling each store in his area to no longer accept copies of the game. I was just in there picking up a new wireless controller with some oldass leftover credit and overheard the phone call. Asked the employee about it like I didn't know the reasoning. Apparently the stores in my area got hit with well over 100 copies and that was with them only taking one of the game for each system per customer. Obviously people going in with friends/family, and within a 10 minute driving time of my place there are about 7 GameStops. That DMs area is huge so who knows how many of these people were driving all over the city trading these in.

About 5 minutes later some neckbeard came walking in with about 20 copies of Arkham City. He threw a royal fit when he couldn't trade them in. At least his were still sealed so he could take them back to Best Buy without too much hassle.

I'm not sure if it's a corporate policy as much as it's just a general guideline. There are GameStops that will or wont allow it depending upon the Store Manager or District Manager. The District Manager in my area used to be alright with it but after getting hit a few of those Best Buy flips, really cracked down. I believe Nintendogs may have been the last straw. He apparently, and this is just what I get from a couple of the stores that I've got some friends at, goes through the weekly reports and if he sees a lot of a certain game or multiples of a game from a certain person they will get marked as a dealer and banned from that district. Also the employee allowing the multiples, if in one big transacation, will either have hours reduced to nothing or just all out fired.

Some may say that is taking it too far, but GameStop is a business. I don't know why but seem to forget that. That and also the print on all of their promos that say all trade-ins subject to manager approval. Taking in multiples of games that aren't going to get back anywhere near what they pay just isn't in their best interest.
 
my local gamestop only allows 1 copy of each game from each platform each visit. I havent tried to push the envelope by leaving and coming back in yet. :)

As always, there will be exceptions to policies that are enforced by human beings.

20 sealed copys ? Omg that guy is such a dick head ! People like that are only going to make it worse for everyone. If he was a smart flipper he should have spread them out around differint gs locations at least

They do update overnight. However, depending upon the store's internet connection availability and any number of glitches they may not always get it overnight. I know a few locations in Evansville,IN about 3 years back had to work off of dial-up for two weeks because of some problem with AT&T and only got updates on Saturday evenings as that was the easiest time to push out the updates and get them done before store open.

I believe when that Mass Effect 2 deal was going extra 50% and it's value was $30 or $35, I think it was Mass Effect 2, there were conflicting reports for a day or two on a dropped value because some stores weren't getting updates correctly. Lot of flaming and naming calling in the thread. Lets not devolve into that again please.
 
Yea I haven't called mine yet because I just got up ha, but no way it stayed... I think bgame2, if you called, did they actually check? Different times I call GameStops and they don't even bother to check they just remember answering 1000000x times yesterday so they say the same thing.
 
UPDATE 10:54 AM EASTERN

My GameStop did check on the computer and Arkham City and RAGE are STILL THE SAME... not sure if they got the update yet or not as people have said, but mine definitely is still the same.

Self inflicted. As you knew beforehand had you unwrapped them before you came in it would have all gone smoothly for you.

Not really worth flipping ME2 or Rage IMO. Will Batman be that price all day? I have it ready to trade in after work. When to values usually change? Morning or night?
 
Trade in was 23 bucks on Arkham City and 23 for Amalur. (29.90 with 30% extra from preordering ME3). Swapped those and and Abe Lincoln for ME3 paid off.

I was there for the store opening (pays to have a prep period on Monday mornings) and the guy said the machines had NOT updated yet, and that he'd do so after ringing the first few people up.

Thanks for the updates on the prices everyone. I still have another hour before my GS even opens. I have a couple stores close together. Instead of getting denied I'll just do one of each platform to them and cancel 2 preorders down the road.

There were some stores around me that were no longer taking trade-ins after a phone call from their DM. Apparently he had emailed and was calling each store in his area to no longer accept copies of the game. Sounds like the neckbeard was from SD. They know about the Batman flips. But coming in with sealed games reeks if a total non-gamer. What a bunch of idiots over there.

my question is what do non-gamers do with gamestop credit? they spend real cash to flip for gamestop credit to buy games or consoles at gamestop prices to sell for a fraction of retail or buy games and trade back into bestbuy for small profit? sounds counter productive to me. so much effort with time and gas going back and fourth between multiple stores, unless your gamestop/bestbuy employees is cool with your flipping and lets you do it all in 1 shot. plus risk of getting marked as a dealer and banned outright.
 
On the additional 30% for pre-order, do you have to actually pre-order the item with the trade-in? Or can you reference a previous pre-order... I've already pre-ordered RE and it'd be cool to get additional 30% and say it's towards that...

I don't believe they'll do that (YMMV?), you can cancel the old one and pre-order again if worst comes to worst.
