Oblivion:
+ Pick any synonym for fun, deep, or huge.
+ Stunning presentation w/ luscious viduals and a memorable music score
- The envelope pushing comes at a price
? If you took a week to play, would it be enough?

Fight Night:
+ No HUD
+ The ripples in a guy's face when you punch him
- Kinda light on the number of venues and real life boxers
? If games look this good now, what will they look like in 5 years?

GRAW:
+ Fantastic Multiplayer
+ Awesome presentation; graphics are amazing and sound effects are up to the excellent Clancy standard
- Ghost AI is lousy
? What's with the jarring EA Trax-inizing of the in-helicopter soundtrack?

Burnout:
+ Save and Share Mode
- Not enough new content. How about a new city?
- Graphics, espec damage models, leave us wanting more
? Could EA Trax maybe hire someone who doesn't love only pop punk?

Hoops:
+ Plays great; excellent coaching options
+ Terrific presentation and animations
- Awkward controls, particularly in the post
? What's with the scary, Barbi-doll faced cheerleaders?

Outfit:
+ Great concept executed well. Not great, but well.
+ Multiplayer modes up the yay-hoo
-Jeeps handle more like tanks
? Will a sequel that works the little kinks out be made? We hope so.
When does the April Issue hit? Since GRAW will be coming out in like 2-3 weeks.
On newstands March 14th.

Hmmm GRAW has a release date of the 9th? I wish they would have it DL able before that.

I think it is DL on the marketplace next week sometime
well forget this issue then, im not gonna spend $10 to get the GRAW demo if the game is already out
You should just subscribe for a year. A subscription with game demo discs is only $24.95 for a full year.

If you buy say two magazine a year at news stand price you are really ripping yourself off when you could get 10 more issues for just $5 more.

If only OXM wasen't such a lousy magazine...

Info-wise, I preferred the far-supererior XBN (Xbox Nation) when it was still around. I even got a free 12 month subscription, but it only lasted 2 issues before the mag folded *sniff*.

At least you got 2 great issues. I got the free sub as well and it lasted about 6 issues. Good stuff. Ya know, I figure if we were really cheapasses and we wanted to save money we'd go ahead and subscribe to magazines like these. We want the demos, we read the magazines, we basically get our money's worth from the subscriptions if we just buy 2 or 3 of these in a 12 month period and I know I do. If you want to, you can try getting them free at Gamestop at the end of the month if you're cool with the manager. Some magazines have a "display until" date and occassionally the manager at my Ggamestop lets me have those magazines that are past their "display until" date since they always get the new issues the following Tuesday. They just throw them all away anyways, so I wonder what Barnes and Nobles does with theirs. Hmmm..

Maybe this person is wrong or just telling a fib?
I would only prefer oxm if I was out and felt like reading, and brought it. But if all these demos are on the marketplace then ill be a happy camper and stick without a sub.
I also had XBN, for nearly a year. Was a great free mag.

I was reading about this on another forum, I think some framerate issues here and there, but I could be wrong. I can't believe Fight Night got a fucking 10? Oblivion should have been the one, even though I haven't even played it. I've seen Fight Night, the graphics are awesome, but the gameplay IMO is okay..

$70.

Also, it sounds like the new Tomb Raider sucks, because OXM is always super-generous (see FN3) with their scores. Disappointing.
I have the 2 year sub just for the demo discs basically, $480 on newsstands vs $48 for two years.. I'd pick the 2 year sub :)
since when does the magazine cost $20 on newsstands

I picked up a 2 year subscription on eBay for $10 a little bit ago.
just the fact that Fight Night is the first game they ever gave a 10 to is disgusting.
yeah, imo, fight night doesn't deserve that at all! It deserves at most MAYBE a 9.

Agreed. A magazine I don't think I'll subscribe to, especially if it beat out Oblivion.

does anyone know if I can pay to have the version of the magazine with demos? I got a free year subscription to OXM when I started up on gamefly but I don't get the demo and I really want to.

A 10 for Fight Night is absolutely ridiculous. It will now be interesting to see what they give Fight Night Round 4 next year.

framerate drops when there's lots of stuff going on the screen.

Perhaps they accidentally put the 10 intended for Oblivion on Fight Night.
OXM was one of the worst magazines I've ever subscribed to. Back when XBN folded Future should have fired everyone on the OXM staff and replaced them with the XBN staff.
Back when XBN folded Future should have fired everyone on the OXM staff and replaced them with the XBN staff.
Didn't those guys just work on EGM instead?

Impresive scores for those games. Fight Night didn't deserve a 10, but if the reviewer really liked the series, I can see why he would give it that. I'm very thankful that Oblivion got that high score. I'll have something to keep me busy for awhile. I just hope that I can save the game anytime I want so I can just play for 15 or 20 minutes and then quit out. I'll get Ghost Recon if it gets a 9 or a high 8 from GameSpot. I liked Summit Strike, but didn't spend very much time playing it.

Thanks for posting the scores, Linkin.

Is it that bad, or did they not use the power of the Xbox360 right?

Yes, OXM lets you upgrade to get the demo disc - the cost is $1 for each issue left on your subscription. Call the 800 # to have them do it.

Fight Night's definately not a 10. Graphics-wise, sure. Otherwise, no. Even a 9 would be pushing it. It's fun, but ultimately, I'm taking it back because of the stuff coming out next month. I did what I said I would do - I bought it and unlocked The King. Time to take it back.

I like how they reviewed Tomb Raider when it's not even done.

Glad I don't suscribe to that. You can get all those demos for free. I might just have to go to the store and snag a copy of the disc for gamer pics.

I was thinking the same thing about Tomb Raider.

While I think the idea of Fight Night getting a 10 may be absurd, as is any game getting a perfect score for the most part, I don't see how Oblivion seems to automatically warrant a better score like some people are talking about on here. I'm sure I'll pick it up on the cheap down the road, but the slowness of it, the first person view fighting, and who knows what when it is actually out seem like things that are just as easy to criticize as anything wrong with Fight Night.

Plus really who cares about review scores anyway. The only real value they have is I'd say 7.5 and up are probably at least decent, around 5 is likely to be crap to people that aren't rich, and if something gets like a 2.5 or below avoid it.

Awww man! I was hoping to get The Outfit or Ghost Recon AW on the demo disk! But NOOOOOOOO! We get 6 of the same shitty demos that we already have. OXM you suck! I really need to cancel my subscription!

LOL..FNR3 gets a 10. I have the game and love it, but its not a 10 . Way to many bugs in the game still. Full Auto kicks FNR3 in the ass and it got a 5 something. This mag is a complete joke.

I like how several of you guys are already deeming what a worthy score for Oblivion would be when none of you have played it.

The "O" in OXM tells you why most of what this magazine says review-wise should be chucked out the window anyway. Sure, they'll throw you a bone once in a while like giving Full Auto a 5 (so they can say "we do TOO give bad reviews!") but no one gives a shit about Full Auto anyway, so no harm done. Stuff like Fight Night 3 getting a 10 just enhances the stupidity.

I hate when a reviewer can't put aside personal bias and just fucking do their job. I remember some douchebag from XBM (that Che guy I think?) giving Mortal Kombat Deception a pretty weak score, the whole time admitting he hates dial-a-combo games...as if his personal preference should apply to everyone, or Joe Dipshit Gamer knows what the fuck a "dial-a-combo" system is. Hey, I'm not all that enamored with the Grand Theft Auto games, but I'd be a retard to say that they aren't good games that a lot of people will enjoy.

All reviews are subjective. FNR3 can be the best boxing game ever with no flaws, I still wouldn't give it more than an 8 because it's still a boxing game and there's only so much you can do with it. The time commitment and creativity required to make that game vs Oblvion or Halo or whatever is no comparison. And since I don't like fighting games, a 10 review is not going to make me go buy FNR3. The demo was fun, but I got all I needed from that.

I kind of agree with an earlier comment - that you have to look at the general score. If you're interested in the game based on game-type, screens, trailers, etc. and it get pretty unanimously about a 7.5 or 8, you'll probably like it. If it gets lower, it probably didn't do everything right. The only score I really put any weight on is gamerankings once 20 or so reviewers have weighed in. The first reviews for a game are especially bloated because whoever is doing it - OXM, IGN, Gamespot, whoever - wants to make big news becuase they have an "exclusive first review". Let's see what everyone else has to say about GRAW, The Outfit, and ES:O.

a 10 for fight night is rediculous. They need to add way more features before the game can be a 10. Like custom entrances from 2004, and replays at anytime like 2004, and a mesh of offline and online careers like PGR3 has.. that is really dumb.

Opinions.

Some guy sent them a nasty email complaining about the FN3 10 and they said that they changed the way they review. If they use their review criteria for older games, Halo 2 and Splinter Cell would have gotten 10 also. They are going to have a lot of people pissed off at the magazine and they are going to lose their reputation for reviews for the rest of the fans. Their reviews mean nothing to me now.

Why did they change the way they review? Their review system was perfectly fine for Xbox games and then they started only rating on half intervals. I truly don't understand how I can differentiate between a game that gets a 5.5 and a game that gets a 10 in this new system.

Beats me, but their new system is crap. They need a whole new staff over at OXM.
