[PC] The Indie Gala Thread

I'm kind of leaning that way... I mean Victory will revert to F2P sometime and Rise of Flight should hit $4ish eventually, should HH not happen. Also my stalling, may simply cross the 12-hour mark anyway. ;)'

Why do you say that?
Cuz its set up for 2 weeks and 5 gift packs. Everything about it hints at HH. It may not happen, but I think chances are decent.

I thought Hawken was a free game
It is but I think since it is in Early Access right now, only former players got a key for it on Steam. The only option I'm seeding is to buy some pack on Steam right now to play it. Or wait until it is out of early access, which I'm probably going to have to do.

Man, I didn't realize having a Hawken key was anything special. I got mine via email a while ago and activated it, but did think it was odd since I thought it was supposed to be F2P. I would have rather given it to someone who wanted to play had I known.

These newer Indiegala bundles...eh, not terrible and not great. Will likely pass on them and somehow stop the jitters for passing on them.

damnnnnnnnnnuuuuu cheaplikefoxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx whyu do htis!!!! all mooby fault

I'm not too worried about Hawken because it will be F2P eventually but I'm not really sure what makes these F2P games charge for an Early Access steam release when both have been a free download for so many months before making it to steam.

It is really just my fault since I ddin't even bother to create a Hawken account even though I always had wanted to try it.  I blame my addiction to cheap Steam games for not having time for free games.

Victory: The Age of Racing used to be free, but the dev shut down free when he got on early access (for F2P release, with new SP campaign, in addition to it's traditional MP focus). It has been around for years so honestly I don't expect any rough edges. I haven't played it.

Akainero started that trend and then others copied. Very lame forcing people to pay for a "free" game because 'Oh Early Access'. Either it's free or it's not free. Shit or get off the pot.

And I know, it's next to nothing in a bundle now anyway but still that free, but not really free, but we don't know when it will be free someday when we feel like it I guess trend cheeses me off. But then a lot what goes on with Early Access I have a problem with.

My general problem is with how some games charge upwards to $20-$30 for early access, which is basically alpha testing. In a year when it's been released and most bugs ironed out; it will hit a bundle for $6 tops. I would be happy that people would be willing to alpha test for free and pay attention to the project. W/e I guess, more good cheap games for me.

I think this is basically correct, but as has been said before, Early Access pretty much = Kickstarter/Indiegogo/your crowdfunding site of choice. I guess personally, unless I were really enamored with a product or had lots of disposable cash, I'd just as soon wait until all of the kinks are worked out and get it on the cheap. The problem is that when something goes on "Early Access," despite whatever disclaimers may appear on the page, people tend to assume (often erroneously) they're buying a game in a reasonably-finished state, get ticked off when they find out they didn't, and the negative reviews start pouring in.

Back in my day... companies would pay for alpha/beta testers $$ or at least give you the game free at release.

Times have changed, cheat codes and patches were free but now they have become dlcs, everything is about monetary profits now. :nottalking:

It's funny isn't it? I buy cheap games like there's no tomorrow, but if it's free... I assume it's not worth my time. I think all the horrible F2P stuff has soured the word "free" for me. (caveat: unless the "free" aspect is only temporary and it normally has a value - then I want)

Up-Up-Down-Down-<Buy DLC Pop-Up Opens> .... fuck
Why can't I give this two "likes"? CheapyD!!!

While we're on the topic of group buys for IG Rise of Flight...

I'll be hosting a small group buy too, if anyone is interested.

I've read the info and still don't understand: By going into a group buy, do I agree to pay my chunk of a bundle, but not have to pay anything yet until Happy Hour? Thanks for any help.

I'm interested. I just want to understand better how it works.
That's how it works.

2 copies of Real World Racing for $5.99

Pretty good deal, although this does appear to be the harbinger of bundle flooding. There also is additional city DLC that is not included
Hmmm, went from very interested to slightly interested when I saw it was a top down racer. That said, the 4 pack on Steam would come out to $2.82 a copy if it hits 75% off, so this isn't a bad price. Obviously, when it gets bundled it will be much cheaper.

I had the same reaction. Not very interested in a top down racer. More interested in Victory: Age of Racing.

Am I the only one that finds it interesting that IG and Bundlestars seem to run the same giveaways at the same time?  BS is doing a Steam Wallet giveaway and then that same day IG announced their own Steam Wallet giveaway.

It does seem very... coincidental, does it not?

Not really... seems like Indie Gala is trying to out-do Bundle Stars.

It's not just that though. It's the same format (enter liking on facebook, following twitter, etc.) and it's been this way from the jump. BS gave away a collection of games, so did IG, BS gave away some bundles, then so did IG, etc.
The promotions look the same because the giveaways are both powered by Rafflecopter software.

Yeah, but why do like similar promotions right after each other? Like the Steam wallet one seems just weird. Unless the rafflecopter people are the ones who suggest them.

Probably should have noticed this before, but the reason Capsule got the gift packs removed is likely that promo they are running where the top two contributors get a mouse.  I don't think their system can differentiate between individual contributions and group/gift pack contributions.  Problem is that before they removed them some people had already bought gift packs it seems so they already screwed over the promo.

they need a smart website computer guy to do that heheh

Just played three tracks of Real World Racing.  It's a neat little game. The controls felt right.  I think the main skill in the game is taking turns well and using the streaming effect to gain speed/overtake cars.  Not sure how challenging it would be for race game vets.  I finished last in the first race, 12th in the second, and 3rd in the last one so the learning curve isn't too steep. Tracks look nice and I like the idea of racing in basically google maps, though given the realism and tracks in a lot of the newer racing games, this isn't as cool of a concept as it would have been a few years ago.  I was hoping for a make your own track feature to build tracks in places you've been/are familiar with, but no such luck on that.

Edit:

Also, it has cards so you might make like $1 of your money back in Gabenbucks.

Um wow, the video misleading then. I thought that was the draw of it. I remember some other racing game trying to make race tracks from GPS-logged data.
