Persona 4: Released and Ready 2 Play! Metacritic Score -- A Whoppin' 93!!!

I'm playing on the hardest difficulty, and the only troubles I've had are end bosses of dungeons. I guard on the MC when I think he's going to die, otherwise I just exploit weaknesses.

It's as hard, or a tad harder then P3. Only died once by regular shadows, and that was by hama =/
Jesus tapdancing Christ. I think my copy of the game has it out for me.

I can't get past the first dungeon. I've tried like 7-8 times tonight and without fail, at some point, my main character craps out on me before I get to the mid-boss. It doesn't matter if I heal the previous round, or if I come into a battle full health, the game just doesn't want me to get anywhere. The last try tonight was fighting a random encounter where the enemy (one of those dice things that made lots of appearances in 3) used an insta-death move on the whole party (Last Resort) and everyone died. This is in the first dungeon of the game. What the bloody fucking hell. I NEVER had such bullshit happen to me in Persona 3. I think I've died more times outside of a boss battle just in this first dungeon than I did in Persona 3 for the whole game. Seriously, wtf? It's like my copy is cursed.
Last resort is far from an insta-death move. Think it did about 15-20% of my max health when they used it on me. If its killing you that badly sounds like you are massively underleveled or using crappy persona. Try to take advantage of elemental weaknesses for those tougher enemies. Believe the dice is wind?

I just beat the boss of first dungeon last night at around lvl 15. Used Oberon with phys and fire resists for main guy and had red shield for Chie. Didn't come close to dying once.

I absolutely LOVE the game. The dialog is perfect, if anything its even better then 3. I had to put the controller down until I stopped laughing with the scene with Yukiko's glasses and the failed ones Teddy made.

Last Resort has never killed me, ever.
You must be doing something wrong.

Use wind attacks, make stronger personas, better armor(this is a must). Go back and get the wrench that gives Yosuke 40 extra SP from the part where you fought his first persona.

I am not sure what you are doing wrong because this is the easiest SMT game ever.

If I'm not mistaken, the dice are enemies of the "red and flashing" variety. So that's a good warning to stay away. Why don't you use Goho-M to take a break every couple floors? They're not that expensive.

I also died a few times in the first dungeon though.

A word of warning when the dice come up, just run the fuck away.

What level are the personas that you are using, and what level are you?

I was around lvl 15 or so when I finished that dungeon.

I died a few times in the first dungeon too, so no biggie.

But if its too difficult, maybe you need to play it on Easy cause that's for girls to use anyway.

I kid! I kid!

But I will say that Persona 4 is a bit more difficult than P3. I kinda like it that way too.

Wait until you see the first and second school trips then. :p

I'm not sure if anything will top Operation Babe Hunt from Persona 3 though...

I gotta say I LOVE the work they put into the dialog choices for the Persona series. Even the responses are things that I would normally say in that situation. The dialog feel's really natural for the most part.

Plus i am liking the charachters alot more. They seem to have more personality such as Chie who thinks with her stomach.

Some advice for anyone new to the Persona series.

 1. Upgrading gear is crucial. Sell your materials to shop to make new weapons/armor and keep up to date.
 2. Persona for main charachter is vital. Keep fusing and mixing skills to create strong persona's.
 3. Know your enemies weaknesses and attacks. If you fight enemies with powerful fire skills do NOT use a persona thats weak to fire.

Thanks for all the advice. I fought the dice on like the 5th floor of the dungeon, and I believe I was level 10 or so. So perhaps I was underleveled. And yes, it killed everyone in one hit even though everyone was close to full health. I was just trying to get some levels to try and attempt the midboss and this shit happened. And I DON'T suck at Persona, I played through 3 and FES with little problems. I think it's part trying to get used to the new mechanics of the game and part bad luck. Oh well, gonna try again in a couple hours...

Last night my big ol' fat ps2 threw a tantrum and now won't play any dual layer games. ... ...... I didn't even get to save Yukiko!

Hm.. yeah, You're right. Plus, I tested a few others after I posted. It's just inconsistent to high hell.
I guess I'll have to snag a friends ps2 sometime this weekend.

dood hella whaaaaaack!!!

I beat the first dungeon, but then I wanted to go back coz there's an optional boss that u can get a good weapon from...

si I'm going thru the dungeon and then... Arcana Chance, Death Card, ZERO MP!!!

shyt!! I kinda needed that for the boss!!!

 oh well... it happens.

also... I watched the game's 2nd intro... the bikini/model character doesnt have much of a presence in it o_O

whoever she is, I assume she
will take over Teddi's spot as the battle observer

Finally got a chance to play this game and got about 2 hours in. I'm surprised to say Teddy isn't as annoying as I thought he would be. In fact, I really like him so far.

Teddy's great in the first part of the game, but to me he gets kinda annoying after
he becomes a human. He should have stayed as a bear.
Teddy's battle advisor quotes are annoying as hell. "uhhhhhhuhuhuhhhh HE GOT BACK UP!"
Yeah, that's the only bad thing about Teddie really. All announcer quotes get old very quickly in any game and I wish there was an option to only disable the voices on those.

Fuuka anyone?

Just beat the optional boss in the castle dungeon. Wasn't hard, but it was annoying as fuck, since his defense is so high. I'm gonna try and clear out
Kenji's dungeon
when I get back from work today.

I beat him too. But he got me the first few times cause I was under leveled. I went back when I was level 21 and it wasn't too hard. It helps if you make a Persona with Physical Resist. The Slime persona gets it at level 6 or 7. Then I fused it and made an Oberon. The boss has no weakness but Zio & Bufu attacks do some nice damage. Have Yukiko use Media. And if you have a the buff the lowers physical attacks that help too.

I took him out around lvl 25, and did most of the stuff Rodimus mentioned. I used a few party defense items to keep everyone alive, but mostly it was a battle of who could survive the longest. It helped that Yukiko had Arigao, since that did a nice chunk of damage. Just make sure that she mainly heals, and keep a watch out for his Rampage.

EDIT: Oh, and make sure to examine the throne once you kill him for a sweet weapon for Yukiko.

25 is too much... all my doods are 17 rite now...

I still subscribe to the dungeon as little as possible strategy,

I fight for my friends!!

Holy shit!! Flashback time...

And y'all are lame. I beat the bonus boss at like level 16. Took me a couple tries, but it's very doable.

Where do I find Kanji for S-link purposes?
I haven't actually started it yet, but I think
I've seen him in the Practice Building on the first floor where you can start his social link. I assume that's where he'll be on school days too and off days I assume he'd be around Tatsumi Textiles in the North Shopping District. Of course he won't be available every day and when a dungeon is open but not cleared yet, you can miss a lot of possible social link interactions during the time you waste to complete it.

Talk to one of the girls in your classroom and she'll mention that he's running around with a gang. Go over to the practice building and tell him that you have something to tell him.

HHAHAHAHAAA I lol'd at that when I saw it too!

Yep, they stand out alright.

This series is slowly becoming my favorite RPG series ever. I played for like 8 hours yesterday. It's been ages since I've done an RPG power play like that.

man that fox is an asshole!!!

I asked him to heal me and he's like "that'll be 26,000+ yen" and I'm wtf?!?!?!

I wish I could be healed coz I used half my SP beating that bonus boss!!! whoo!!

it was easy btw! jus keep using Tarunda so he cant kill you in 1 hit, and let your healers do healing while Chie and Batltoad attack with magic

He takes 50% of you money for a healing for quite a while.

Even when I got him to 25%, it's still ridiculous. I'll just come back on another day.

Is it just me or is there something wonderful about getting into a battle in an RPG and dying making you lose a half hour of work. Doing it over sucks, but the fear of what's around the next corner is one of the reasons SMT games are leaps and bounds ahead of any recent FF for me.
I've never needed to use the Fox. I've been lucky with the Arcana cards and get my HP & SP restored quite frequently.
I have bad luck with cards for the most part. However on the rare chance I get Judgement and Death, I've gotten them upright every time except for once when I hit a reverse judgement. Unfortunately I don't have them pop up enough when I actually need them.

Regardless, I have over ¥800,000 so I'm set for the fox whenever I need it.

It's based off percentages.

If you haven't done much of the social link, it would cost 400,000. :/

According to the guide each rank will cost a certain amount per SP to restore and depending on the foxes happiness it will determine whether you get up to 30% increase or decrease in cost.

It's always been 15k for me to restore my SP though since I hit rank 10. When I was at 350k and when I was at 800k.

EDIT: That's when I'm low to next to no SP, when I have about half, it's around 10k and when I'm near full it's ~¥1,000. I can post the chart the guide has if you all want.

I've been having a lot of fun with this game. It's a nice way to end the PS2 lifespan.

I kinda feel sorry for that little girl. She just sits at home all day watching tv while her dad works everyday. Then it turns out she's a s.link. I would have expected hanged man like P3 but for some reason she's Justice. I'm been going through her s.link just to find out why.

Question for anyone that has beaten the game. Is Margaret as 'easy' as Elizabeth? YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
