Your previous girlfriends will cockblock you when you're on a date with a new girlfriend. Basically you waste a day and accomplish nothing. S.links don't reverse in this game.
What I'll like to know is are there any reasons I should get a girlfriend instead of just reminding friends? A special item or something would be nice.

Agh! Missed opportunities ;_;.
Yeah, the Sunday thing happened when Ai (at lv.2) called me up and asked me for sweet lovings, but then Rise (at lv.3) got all indignant and whatnot. It was @_@.

I've not seen that happen - and at such low levels. I've not had any of the characters approach the 'intimate' level until around 8 or 9.
I've boned Ayumi, Yukiko, and Rise drool so far. I'm at 8 with Chie, she's next
Is it wrong that the thing I find most satisfying about this game is maxing s.links? I think it's the music, it just gets to me.
I'm at 9 s.link with the fox, but I can't get myself to go through completing it. I've tried a few dozen times to catch that damn fish, but it just hasn't happened yet and I don't have the patience (or should I say diligence) to try too much.
Luckily, I was able to catch The Guardian on my first try and I stopped right after that.
I fished on multiple rainy days and even saved and reset a couple dozen times. The problem with the guardian is that it tugs at your line like 7+ times before it actually bites so I either get antsy and hit the button early or I miss it when it actually bites.
Wow, everyone's pretty far along. I'm still poking around the 4th dungeon. As for S.Links I've mainly be focusing on teammates. Maxed Chie awhile ago, and Yukiko is next. But my stats are almost maxed. Everythings at lvl 4.
The guide says maxing out Rise is pointless since her last skill isn't very helpful. That true?
Weakness Scan I believe it was or something? All it basically does is she'll randomly say "This enemy is weak versus X!" or "This enemy absorbs/is strong against/resists X!"
So technically no it's not very useful, especially when she's not very clear about which enemy has that weakness or strength in the battle as you may be fighting 3 or 4 different types of enemies at once.

Do you know the secret to fishing though?
That is...
the thing where if you have rumble (ie aren't using Six Axis controllers via PS3), you can pay attention to how much vibration there is when a minor tug comes. The largest one is The Guardian, but it's still a little difficult to tell sometimes even with vibration.
Also if you try and pull up bait early, you'll at least get another shot at fishing without ruining the amount of times you can fish that afternoon or evening.

Yeah, Chibi, I think you have to catch The Guardian in this manner, because the old man tells you this right after he gives you the new pole.

Yeah, I know. Like, I said, whenever I get the guardian I always accidentally hit the button too early or too late because it seems to tug at the line 6 or 7 times before it finally bites unlike other fish that tug at it once or twice.
So did everyone else max Chie's s.link first? I only did it because according to the game Chariot has the strongest personas. I ended up friendzoning her at the end cause she's to much of the tomboy type. She should really take some lessons from Yukiko.
Oh yeah and I like that face Yukiko makes during her s.links. Her cheeks turn red, she smiles slightly, and her eyes kinda narrow a bit. She looks like she's about to jump on you then and there.
I caught the Guardian in my second try. I think it bop the lure five times before taking the bait. When your reeling it in, make sure you keep all your fingers near face buttons to prepare yourself when those time button press appear. They have a much larger impact reeling in compared to rapidly pressing x.
Just save, then try and catch Guardian. Cheat back!
Oh I have, many times. Gave up eventually.
This game is really overrated IMO. Don't really want to go into it now, but there's way too many things wrong with this game for me to really enjoy it. I was thinking I would definitely play to the end at least, but now I'm not so sure. And this has very little to do with being SMT'd. The flaws are far deeper than that IMO. Since I'm sure you all are curious, here's some things I have problems with (remember, these are all IMO and I don't really want to start a flame war or anything, just want to vent really):
-Fishing is required if you want to max out S-links (not really a big problem, but since we were on the subject already :lol. Wouldn't care if it were totally optional like most RPGs with fishing.
-Weak, plodding story. The characters' shadows can be interesting, but the actual story is horrible
-Weak characters for the most part, though some are very interesting, generally the ones who AREN'T in your party
-Too much downtime in between dungeons that somehow is less fun than 3's downtime (perhaps due to the 2 things above) and much longer
-The "fun" story scenes between the main characters, such as the cooking or festivals, etc, are boring and repetitive. Kind of fun the first time, but they keep doing the same lame jokes
-Attacks miss way too often, even with weapons equipped that have high hit rates; seems to be a way to pad the length of the game, or just a coding error
-Voice acting for most of the characters
-Horrid music
Fourth death: 6th floor of 6th dungeon (7th maybe? It's
heaven
)
Get into a standard battle. No initiative either way. Four enemies - two of the tree-looking things and two of the Pesce shadows. One of the Pesce shadows goes first, uses an attack called Mind Something-er-other, hits everyone for over 100 points of damage (one critical) and confuses all but the MC. It attacks again, same attack, and confuses the MC. Game was over before anyone had a chance to recover from confusion...
As for the game being overrated, I agree, but for the opposite reason. I don't much care for the dungeon exploration, but really enjoy the S.links and plodding around town. I doubt I'll play it again though.
Yeah, I think I'm done with this game unfortunately. Really wanted to enjoy it but just seemed more like a chore than anything else.
You might be better off with Nocturne or Digital Devil Saga.
You might be better off with Nocturne or Digital Devil Saga.
I'm sure you've played them already though.
Didn't enjoy Nocturne due to its non-existent character development (not that it could be helped considering there was only one human PC and he was silent). Just not my kind of game. Loved DDS though, as well as Persona 2 and 3. I'm playing Persona 2: IS right now and I love it.
Ok, just to balance things out, here's some things I DID like about 4:
-Great boss design
-Some S-link characters are really fun (Nanako, Dojima, Nurse, couple others)
-Bonus bosses after dungeons are finished (even if a lot of the rewards stink)
-Jobs, especially since you get money AND characteristic/S. link boosts.
-The weather mechanic is decent and used well. Though not being able to hang out with almost all the S.links during rainy days seems more like lazy programming to me, not being able to program the events so that they can also take place on rainy days.
More grievances though:
-It's so ing obvious
Naoto is a girl from her voice. It's like the damn VA didn't even try. I wonder if this was better in the Japanese version.
-What the is the point of weapons with a 30 hit rate rating? I get this cool weapon from Margaret for completing half the S.links, go to equip it, and it has a 30 hit rating. And half of the weapons have like a 50 hit rating. This is especially a problem since even things with 80+ hit ratings miss like 40% of the time. And why the hell does magic have such a poor hit rate? Not as bad as normal weapon attacks, but still, seriously.
-I hate how the Personas mutate from S.links now instead of story sequences. Just a personal preference.
-The announcer character is now completely useless thanks to the weakness analysis being gone, but they kept the role in anyway. So all the ers do now is just say something completely obvious after EVERY SINGLE ATTACK. Yes asshole, I'm not blind and actually do realize someone is low on health, or that there are 3 enemies left. You don't have to announce it EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN round. Especially with the horrid voice acting.
-The camera angle in the dungeons is shit, especially since an enemy advantage can be insta-death. The old angles were great, why did they have to change it?
-Nice job recycling pretty much all the normal enemies from 3. I'm sure that took a lot of hard work and effort.
I agree this game is way too overrated. I like previous installment more then this one. Here's my pro and con compare between the two. It seem like social was improve so much, but gameplay kinda suffer a bit. Here's a few I can think on top of my head.
Pro
+ Better boss and dungeon design. No more plain looking dungeons
+ Can complete your object before your allotted time frame
+ Great use of slink. Such as assistance in battle or upgrade their persona.
+ Vastly improve social aspect - More jobs to improve your social stats or slink.
+ Remove fatigue system
+ More optional bosses
+ Team Assistance
+ No time restrictions on quest
+ Decisions have a great impact from improving slink to social stats.
+ Social stats can unlock new dialog
+ Full control of characters. No more dumb AI
+ Quick jump to cut some redundant movement
+ Certain Persona have unique skills that can't be inherit. Add more balance to game.
+ Fusion Calendar
+ More social link can be visited when there's no school. Can boost Slink during summer vacation and Sunday.
+ Selling materials can unlock news weapons or armor.
Con
-Poor use of slink. Your kinda force to go through their slink to gain the assistance or upgrade their persona.
It doesn't help that new cycle doesn't retain these factors.
- Low Hit Rate Weapons - Most of them have low hit rate. Since sp is limited, you have to relay more on them.
- Fewer boss count
- Most of bosses don't retain any weakness. You can't take advantage of press turn.
- Defend. It seem like a good idea to negate weakness. Too bad, you have no idea when they cast that spell unless they use mind charge.
- Card shuffles only net persona. No more money, exp or health/mana recharge.
- Limited sp replenish. Sp items are limited, and fox sp replenishment cost is way too high in beginning of game.
- More grinding. You can no longer get exp, replenish or money cards.
- A lot cheap death. Homunculus is really hard to get. If all targeting spell hit one target with critical or exploited your weakness, it will get a free press turn. In Persona 3, you need to hit all to get press turn.
-Rare chest requires keys to open.
-Bad checkpoint system. Save point is only at top dungeon. When you revisit dungeons after you clear it, your checkpoint default back to one.
-Camera is kinda weak. Some moments it just zooms way too close
- You can only obtain new armor or weapons by sell certain number of materials. Forcing you to grind some more.
- Since monsters drop mostly materials, it's much harder to get usable items.
- Weather mechanic. It may seem more realistic, but it limit your Slink progression.
- Enemy advantage is based on level. Really hard to advantage on them.
I mostly agree with a lot of what you say, but there are a few things that I want to mention.

I enjoyed the s.link for changing things with your characters. I thought it was clever and well used.

Again, the arcane chance. Plus, I hardly ever grinded in this game. In the beginning of the 6th dungeon I grinded for 2 levels (plus I had the moon exp up card in effect) and that's it so far.
I didn't think this was such a bad idea. The only bad thing was that I felt the keys were impossible to come by in the beginning of the game and I always felt gipped whenever I opened a regular chest and only got 1 key.
-Bad checkpoint system. Save point is only at top dungeon. When you revisit dungeons after you clear it, your checkpoint default back to one.
I thought the checkpoint system was better in this one. You can level at any floor and return to that floor. It's better than having to get through 10-15 floors at once. It sorta makes the more cheap deaths thing less severe too.
- Weather mechanic. It may seem more realistic, but it limit your Slink progression.
The Arcana chance is nice all with it's variant abilities(money, exp, sp replenish, stat boost, upgrade abilities), but it's a large game of chance. First, you need the Arcana chance to appear then hope you get the right card out about 18 possible cards (Magicain, Fool, Priestess, Empress, Emperor, Hierophant, Lover, Chariot, Justice, Fortune, Hermit, Strength, Hanged Man, Death, Temperance, Devil, Tower, Sun) and then you go through another game of chance and hope they flip in upright position. I received Moon card 4 times in one play through , one of them came in reverse. I hardly get the money card as well.
Most of time I know I'm under leveled by looking at monster size ,since it determine it's strength. Even if I strike them face first, they get first strike.
Looks like I'm not going to max all the s.links. Only a month-ish left and I still have Empress 2 (which can seemingly be completed in a day), Moon 3, Temperance 6, and Emperor 7, Hermit 9 (I did manage to catch the guardian though). Everything else is maxed though besides the story s.links.
I'm about to finish (last month), I personally think this game is hard to judge. Some of the characters are plain awesome, but none except Teddie compare to Junpei from 3. Chie is the most annoying voice actor in the game, but somehow not as bad as Fuuka. Yukiko's voice also is annoying, but bearable. The story gets better after around October, it's close to P3, and flows a lot better.
The music is a mixed bag, some songs are great but most fall flat. Particularly the battle music, which I'm tempted to mute every time.
Most of the problems everyone listed are minor (chest keys, ect), so I have no problem overlooking them.
Whether or not this game compares to P3, I won't know until I finish but I don't think it will. Definitely is keeping me hooked to see the end though.

Well, I quit around the end of September, but I'm not really too wounded about it. I know most of the major endgame spoilers anyway (seriously don't click unless you beat the game), such as
Naoto being a woman, Nanako getting kidnapped, Adachi being the real killer (though I don't really know why), and the gas station attendant thingie.
This is a cute Xmas pic of Elizabeth and Margaret from some official site, only in spoilers cause it's a large image:
Huh. Just opened the last dungeon. It turns out that I was right in who I thought was the real kill for the entire game.
How long is this last dungeon? I don't know if I should just charge through it tomorrow or try to use some of the days to finish the last couple s.links.
