Persona 4: Released and Ready 2 Play! Metacritic Score -- A Whoppin' 93!!!
-Nice job recycling pretty much all the normal enemies from 3. I'm sure that took a lot of hard work and effort.
You can't be too surprised, the Personas are models they've been re-using for 5 years, across 6 7 games
Well, I quit around the end of September, but I'm not really too wounded about it.
I don't get this. You quit near the end of the game? That's just LAME

Very true, I just added in that complaint for teh lulz and the sake of complaining.

I did it with FF12 and never looked back. God that game was painful.

I was thinking about it and one of the major problems with this game is that the characters have no real backstory and relation to the plot other than being randomly kidnapped. In 3 most of the characters had real connections to the story and had issues that were worked out during the story (Yukari's dad, Junpei's relationship with that chick, Mitsuru's connection to Tartarus, etc). The S-links don't really add shit this time around either. So these people have no real investment in the plot except finding the killer who tried to kill them as well, which would be ok, but they sure don't seem serious about it at all. The characters in this game are very one-dimensional compared to 3.

Wat? I must have missed something somewhere along the line.

Anyhow, I'm the exact opposite. I thought Persona 3 was kindof meh storyline wise (it was good, sure, but it didn't draw me in), however I did enjoy this one. This is probably because I grew up around murder mystery shows like Murder She Wrote and Matlock where you could know what may happen but you never know the process as to why until you've got all the little details.

Though it didn't help 3 where I couldn't control the party with their hateful AI that wouldn't do anything remotely intelligent for me 70% of the time. So I do have a bit of a bias against it solely for that reason, but I didn't really feel a connection towards the protagonist either. Also felt the story was much more tangible to me and I enjoyed the whole premise of the entire thing if you know anything about japanese god lore.

I do, I've taken multiple college courses discussing it, and it seems pretty tacked-on from what I've read. It's like they said, "Ok, how can we make this story make any sense?" "I know, let's add Japanese mythology to it, it'll take care of ALL the story problems!"

Yeah, I'm not going to dissect every post, but I don't agree with the lot of you complaining about the game.

I loved Persona 3 and I ended up liking Persona 4 a tad bit more for the improvements it made.

That's totally fine, as I said in my posts. I just wanted to let you guys know of my opinions, no need to agree with them.

So to the guys who beat it already, do you think it's possible to max out all the S-Links on your first playthrough? Also when you do a new game + do your stats transfer over?

It is possible to max it on one playthrough, but you don't have a lot of room to mess around. You pretty much have to always be working on something.

The protagonist's stats do transfer over.

Thanks, I've been trying to be very careful with my time spent. But I haven't fished a single time yet. I'm guessing once I max out all my stats and evening S.Links I'll have plently of time that.

In the "Cat Feeding Quests" can you countinusly feed him fish in a single day or can he only be feed once a day?

Sorry for the newbie question, but can someone describe the gameplay of this game? I remember renting P3 and playing it for about 1 hr before quitting, but I don't remember the reason I quit playing it :)

You can feed it in one day.

Just finished it. Despite the frustrations, I loved this game. I do think overall it was better than 3. It have done a few things worse than P3, but the story and characters felt much better.

Does anyone else ever get kinda depressed after finishing a game?

Only Persona 3 and 4.

Did you get the bad ending, normal ending or true ending?

I thought I was all done, but it seems I have some hours left I need to put in to get the true ending.

True ending.

I think I feel down after pretty much every game I finish, especially JRPGs. I just get attached to the characters and feel sad that my journey with them is over.

Definitely liking this story more then 3. Just finished 2nd dungeon and I was laughing out loud so hard. I thought nothing would beat Shadow Hearts for gayest charachter ever, man was I wrong.

Anyways loving everything so far, I managed to clear the entire dungeon in one trip. I was about to leave the dungeon twice and got my SP restored while clearing final floor, so worked out perfectly.

Woot! Just finished without using a walkthrough and got the bad ending, which was still more fulfilling than P3's "good" ending (though admittedly I prefer P3's ending).

How much gameplay is tacked on for the good ending? Time to go back and find Frisky's post.

Even to get to the normal ending, I would say it's another 6 or 7 hours.

To get the true ending, maybe 9 or 10.

I did "Galactic Punt" on a sub-boss. Didn't know that was possible. He summoned a helper, I stunned him and Chie took care of the rest. Easiest/quickest boss fight I had yet.

Just got the true ending. Final play time is 66 hr 55 min (give or take a couple of hours since sometimes I would just leave the game running.

For the 2nd cat feeding quest, I think you have to feed him all in one day. I fed him once a day for a week or so and got nothing.

Wow, I'm 67hrs and only in November. The upper floors of November's dungeon are pretty anti-fun. No weaknesses, rpl a lot of things, ugh.

Is there any way to rest when inside the TV world? I'm guessing not, but I'm on the last day I can beat
yukiko's dungeon
and I didn't realize the dungeon went past 5F.

Have you met the fox yet?

You can pay him to refresh your SP.

but it costs you an arm and a leg... I'm like level 5 or 6 in that S.Link and it's STILL too much

I finally cracked down and used the fox for healing. It wasn't too bad. I wanted to blaze through a dungeon in one try. Also switching out team members for fresh ones helps. But you really can't do this until you get some other characters.

I maxed out Chie & Yukiko S.Links. I wonder if they'll fight over me now?

I have not met this fox. Where can I start the S. Link?

Either way, I'll have to figure out a way to muscle through this dungeon...
You start the fox S. Link at the shrine in the North section of the shopping district.
I checked out the shrine, but it wouldn't let me enter. Maybe I'm too early in the game?

Did people really give up on catching the Guardian? Only took me 10 minutes of trying, once I found out you're supposed to look for a fish with long pauses between tugs.

Oh, I'd find the Guardian, but he'd always wriggle off the hook. fucking bastard....

I decided to give this game another chance and just finish it before I sell it. Already at 10/30 now.

It's too bad you didn't enjoy P4, DoK. But I can understand some of your reasons.

As for catching the Guardian, all it takes is patience and a quick hand. Just wait for hard pulls with several second gaps between them. I ended up catching a few to exchange in Dec for a 50%+ exp item.

Spoiler for 11/5:
Pro Tip to Dojima: If you're a fucking DETECTIVE, and your nephew gets a threatening letter in the mail saying "someone close to you is next," DON'T leave your little girl at home alone. Dumbass. I see this is yet ANOTHER game where the stupidity of the characters makes the game a lot longer than it should be.

I just got done with the Sept. class trip and I must say P4 is genuine comedy. I look forward to all the vaction & class trip events. My wife actually likes to watch the cutscenes, which is a big deal since she hates most all games. For some reason she likes Kanji.
I did not expect going back to Gekokkan High. I love the fact that they took an effort to connect the two games even if it was just a little. They even used the the same music. I had a big grin on my face the whole time. But still I wanted to see more characters from P3.

I thought it was cool, but also a total waste. They could've done so much more.

I'd have liked to find out more about all my party members from P3. It was nice to see all the same locations again though.
I thought it was cool, but also a total waste. They could've done so much more.
I wouldn't say it's a total waste, more like a missed opportunity. At least it's a clear message saying
Yep, the two games are in the same world. This has me hopeful for future Persona titles. I squeal like a Japanese school girl anytime reference is made to another MegaTen game.

I hope in future titles they will pull a Suikoden II and let you play as him. Do something like have a save file with full compendium and unlock him with Izanami-no-Okami persona. That will be awesome! Or at least vs him as ultimate boss like Digital Saga.

lol what did Kanji say?!?!

he's like "man is a beast that strives to kill boredom" or sum random shyt?!?!?!

he also said "boneless" one time... and Rise said "boneless" too.

I only hope that I can hear the word "boneless" many more times

I really like Persona 4, first RPG I've played in months, and it's great to have one to play. I'm really loling at the game so far. Im about 26 hours in, middle of July.

I just beat dungeon 4 in one day, the boss was surprisingly easy, although amusing.

Now if there was just something to do during the summer (Rise is only available a few days each week :booty:).
How do you get to fight the boss in the 8-bit dungeon? I cant open the door...
You had to fight the mini-boss on an earlier floor and get some item to open the door. Just like an 8-bit RPG, duh.
