Pinball FX 2 - Free Paranormal table from 10/26 to 11/2!!!

Man more tables in the works, that is very cool of Zen Studios. Yeah I think I got better with the classic tables once I played with FX2's new engine, still it's nothing with your scores on the new tables like Wolverine. In fact today I finally nabbed Infiltrator on the Agent table. The funny thing is I've figured out most tables, I just can't consistently hit what I need to when I need to. Damn time limits, and oh man don't get me started with Street Fighter and Akuma. ^^
Great to see you on the Zen Forums nah dew :) You'll be able to learn a lot from those guys.
Mostly signed up to check out the guides and table overview images. Man, that one thread where some guy lost his shit over the 40 extra MSP for Mars was ridiculous.

Fantastic 4 screenshot leaked on the forums. This one looks pretty awesome :D

I voted for this one... so it is nice to get an early glimpse at it:)

Edit: Zen kindly requested that I take down the pic of the new table. Sorry guys :(

Nice, I voted for Fantastic 4 too! Wish I could've gotten that sneak peek :)

MARS Tournament announced as well as prize packs. Good day for pinball fans too as Fantastic 4 is announced for next month. I wonder if that screenshot leak yesterday had anything to do with it? Because it wasn't exactly leading the poll or anything ;)

Taken from Zen forums:

There will be official prize packs for the top three scores, and prizes for random entrees such as MARS candy bars, DVD’s, and game codes.

1st Place –
 • 4,000 MS Points
 • Choice of Mars Attacks!, Martian Chronicles, or Total Recall Special Edition
 • Codes to future games from ZEN Studios

2nd & 3rd Place –
 • 1600 MS Points
 • Choice of Mars Attacks!, Martian Chronicles, or Total Recall Special Edition
 • Codes to future games from ZEN Studios

The tournament will run April 29 – May 13, 2011. Winners will be notified via private message following the conclusion of the tournament.

To participate in the tournament, select the tournament icons in the Pinball FX2 menu bars. Choose Mars, and your score will automatically register upon game completion.

Godspeed.

I am so pumped for that Fantastic 4 table. Was a little bummed to see Captain America and Ghost Rider leading the poll pack to be honest. Doom is such a sick villain, I cannot wait!

Oh and the prizes for the Mars tournament are awesome. Zen is really earning my respect.

My family is looking forward to Fantastic four. We pass around while playing Pinball FX2. Can't believe how much I love this game.

Maybe I need to finally pick up that Mars DLC. I've been absorbed with Portal 2, but perhaps I should mix it up and see how I do in the tournament.... I think I'll download it tonight. Not that I'd expect to win the tournament. Are they going to have random giveaways too, or just 1st through 3rd?

Wooo, nabbed Archeologist lastnight, finally was able to hit all the MARS and Galaxy drop targets and get it into the pyramid. First I finally got all the drop targets but lost the 1 of 2 pinballs so the mode ended. Noooooo! lol
Posted a 300 something M, 91st on Mars. :p

Well anyone still playing can add me as a friend on Live just make sure to let me know you are from CAG.

cuta is my gamertag and at the moment I have 13 tables and will be adding more. I just added the Marvel tables the other day so I will probably get the rest of the tables I don't have yet when Fantastic 4 comes out.

i finally bought Mars last night and played a couple times. I like it, but like all the PFX2 games, it plays way too long. I played for nearly an hour in my first game. Or maybe it was 40 minutes, but it seemed like an hour. I like it, but I wish they'd make substantially shorter playing games for a change. Also, like the other games, I find it very confusing, rules-wise. Even reading the rulesheet only modestly clears things up. They need to do a better job of making games that are more obvious as you play them, without even looking at a rulesheet.

Question: it seemed like I was playing in the tournament even though I didn't actually go into that tournament thing. Is it now the case that you are automatically playing in the tournament, or was I just confused. :)

I believe you enter into the tournament anytime you play the table that's currently being used for the tournament.

Yeah I find myself playing a really long time on Mars, Speed Machine, Buccaneer, Street Fighter 2, and Spider-Man.

Oh and yeah I'm eagerly awaiting the FF table as well.

Yeah, I'm going to buy FF, in part just because it's a single table. For some reason I'm having a harder time buying the 4-pack of Marvel games. Eventually, but I think I'll get FF first.

It's been long enough I bet the Marvel pack will go on sale sometime soon. Still though, $10 for 4 tables is just too sweet of a deal for me to pass up.

I have to agree with you on MARS, it does feel a lot like a grind because you can keep the ball alive for a really long time. That may be one of its flaws. The Marvel pack has 2 tougher tables in the form of Iron Man (I think you will really enjoy this one crunc, the challenge is definitely there!) and Wolverine. Blade can be challenging too. Spiderman is a lot like MARS... long games to score huge.

Let me know if you have any questions about MARS and I will try my best to answer them.

Well I have been trying to score an early copy of F4 for FX2 via the twitter contest. I signed up on twitter solely to enter this contest. It seems the other d-bags on twitter are winning my early F4 XBLA codes and sweet marvel tees, courtesy of http://www.welovefinetees.com, lol. Oh well, I did luck out and get MARS early last month... Still one of those t-shirts would be awesome. I'd buy one but they are way overpriced for me. They are right around the price of buying a band tee at a concert ;).

I can wait a few more days for the table... Still gonna try and win that contest tho :D

Found this over on the Zen forums... Pretty funny FX2 discussion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xLHQcGF0qY Skip to 13:50 for the pinball talk. I was laughing pretty hard at this one. I love the line:

"Do I like pinball? That's like asking someone, do you like breasts?" LOL.

Enjoy it guys. Anything to kill some time until the 18th :)

I've got a lot of friends and people I know that don't like Pinball or find it boring. Really though the social friend's high score aspect of the game would negate that I believe.

Some people just don't "get it"... I don't understand it. If you grew up with it even remotely around you, it's hard not to love it :)

With some of my friends if I even mention pinball scores to them, they call me a "pinball nerd". They think if you can get to and conquer a table wizard mode that you're a nerd, lol. A lot of them are CoD freaks.

Are they too young to appreciate pinball as it once was? If so, I doubt this will help convince them, but figured I'd post anyway:

Lol, next time when they say you're a pinball nerd ask them what perks they've unlocked and then when they tell you cut them off by saying see itsn't it fun unlocking and setting strategies in a game!? ;)

Yeah I was playing FX 2 the other day and that song was chosen on my random playlist of my many mp3s. Oh my god it was euphoric haha.
So I thought the table was out today?! eh?!
It is... in Japan :(

It releases tomorrow for us Americans...

I saw my Zen buddy playing FX2 last night... and of course he was knocking the ball around Fantastic 4, lol... I think he is trying to make us jealous.

As you may have known by now, Pinball FX 2's newest DLC table is available on the XBL Marketplace for 240 space bucks. I grabbed it about 45 mins ago and had a chance to get a good game under my belt. Here are my thoughts...

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate Zen on a job well done. You have listened to your fans and implemented what we wanted... Better Audio! The audio on this table is amazing compared to past releases. A ton of audio feedback about what's going on. The music fits the theme nicely as always. Well done Zen.

Now onto the gameplay. This table might actually be the fastest table in the entire FX2 library... It is THAT fast! Balls will come blasting down the inlanes right past the flipper and in the drain in the blink of an eye. This keeps you on the edge of your seat and prepared for anything. Most of you will be happy to hear the ramps are not death traps like Rome. The ball will come down for an easy bounce and trap on the flippers. At least most of the time.

The missions are very fun and diverse. There are 5 main missions, 3 multiball modes, a separate playfield minigame, and a 3 stage wizard mode. I was able to make it to the wizard mode but apparently choked battling Galactus and drained SDTM

... The table then reset and I was off to try and get it started again. (Remind you of anything? MARS, Iron Man lol) Hopefully I will fare better my next time facing that beast.

Put up a score of 152MM (roughly 20-30 min game) good for 5th on the earlybird leaderboards. Grab this table and knock me out of the top 10
wink.gif
My score will hopefully be improving over the course of the day, so it might be a little tougher than you think.

Wanted to tip my hat again to Zen for a few special touches I really enjoyed. The Thing ripping the pinball in half was awesome! Great use of the effect. Another thing I am really impressed with is the smart "invisible" flipper that is operated by the Invisible Girl... Very reminiscent of a certain table IRL close to my heart

Once I get a little more 1 on 1 time with this "Fantastic" table, I will post deeper thoughts on this DLC in the form of a table review
smile.gif

Enjoy this one fellow pinheads. I know I will...

I like the sound of it being a relatively faster playing game (speed and play time). Will pick it up this weekend. Won't have time to play until then, and even then probably not until Sunday. Oh well.

Squeezed a play in before leaving for work this morning, looks pretty awesome. I had some trouble hitting the ramps, especially Doom's green one from the left flipper. Definitely going to lunch break it up on this one. What's up with view 4 though? It's the same as view 6...

WTF where did my post go, there was more after "hate this table"!?

Basically auugh, I said like a paragraph lol, the table is growing on me. I didn't like the constant audio feedback but can't deny the quality of them nor the presentation of the table. I don't necessarily love the layout, it's hard to see the bumpers at the top, the forcefield lights at the bottom and I had to change my view to 5. I've settled into the table a bit more, secured a good score I think.

I bought the FF table. It's pretty good. I played a lot of pinball in the 90s and the FF table feels like the most real table they have released.

I tend to find a lot of the tables overwhelming. FF and Mars seem like the best beginner tables, which is sorta strange since they are both DLC.

Agree 100%. This is the closest they have gotten so far to some of the amazing tables of the 90's...

I have a little insider information... I don't know what the next Marvel table DLC is going to be, but from what I have heard it is a lot better than F4. One of the guys at Marvel said it was the most "epic" pinball table he'd ever seen.

I'm sure he is referring to one of the remaining Marvel tables that we voted on. Captain America, Ghost Rider, and Hulk are the 3 remaining tables to be released. CA should come out in July to go alongside the summer blockbuster. GR would make sense to come out around Halloween. So that leaves Hulk... If I had to guess, Hulk will be our June DLC. It's entirely possible that it will be Paranormal in June, in which case Hulk will get pushed to a little later this year.

Again, this is all just speculation. I am excited to see what's coming out next ;)

Good to hear this new table feels more "real" and less overwhelming. I enjoy Pinball FX2 and I've bought most of the DLC tables, but I've found a lot of them have this "sameness" in terms of how they play, what they sound like, the music, etc. It's not like playing, say, Pinball Hall of Fame where the tables were real recreations so each has its own distinct feel and mood to it. The Zen tables all kind of feel alike to me and there times I also feel overwhelmed with the different lanes, ramps and such. What's worse is there are few camera angles that actually capture everything.

It's like I've learned to live with the physics and the faster ball movement, but I wish there was more effort brought in to make them truly "play/feel differently" outside of putting a different graphic interface on them, and I think they also get too cute in "over-designing" them so to speak.

Still it's pinball and I love what they're trying to do, so I feel the need to support their efforts. :)

Pinball FX 2's games are nowhere near as good as real machines. They just don't have the design skill that real designers have. Well, their games are a lot better then Popeye. ;) The physics are good as are the platform's features, such as chasing friends scores and such. I wish they'd work with the Pinball Hall of Fame Folks on the next Pinball Hall of Fame. Together they could make that pretty fantastic. The fact that the next game they are going to put out will be the the most "epic" yet, isn't really terribly encouraging. I think they need to step back a bit, not jump further into the fray.
I wish they would just implement a "set your own camera" option!
There have been numerous requests for this feature. I think it is being worked on ATM and hopefully will be implemented with the next big patch.

Update... Zen has put up a poll on their forums and they need input on how to improve the cameras in FX2.

That's too bad that you're not enjoying FX2 as much as the rest of us. I, for one, enjoy having a company that is willing to take risks with the tables they develop to keep bringing us new and exciting pinball experiences. I have been extremely pleased with the quality of each table released. They each are unique and special in their own right.

It would be nice if they worked on the next PHoF, but I would rather let them keep creating new tables for us pinheads. I rarely play PHoF any more... And I doubt Gottlieb Collection will ever make its way to XBLA. FX2 was made to be a lot more "arcadey" than any other pinball game. Some really enjoy it (I do) and some want it a lot more down to earth realistic.

I disagree on Zen taking a step back... I love the direction they are headed and I can't wait to see what these talented guys come up with next. To each his own I guess.

Zen is trying their best to keep pinball "alive" and I tip my hat to them.

Williams Pinball Hall of Fame is a neat game because it shows the evolution and variety of many pinball tables. In that case of course the tables will all feel different.

I tried and then bought Fantastic Four today. It's definitely better then Mars, and I'm enjoying it, but after I completed the wizard mode (after 3 or 4 plays) I found I lost the motivation and I didn't last much longer as a result. I'll play some more another time, though. That always happens to me with these games. Whereas on a real machine if I'm getting a great score I feel even more motivated to keep going, with these games I don't. I think the main problem is that even though the physics in PFX2 are good, the ball still does the same exact things over and over. Whereas a real machine is always surprising. Don't get me wrong - I do still like it and think it's the best thing going in video pinball right now.
Well man I haven't reached Wizard mode on Fantastic Four even once, hats off man.
I've reached it like 5 times and choked every single time :(

Damn Galactus...

Nice job crunc. Glad to hear you like the new table. As you know well though, it's impossible for video pinball to be as good as "real" pinball ;)

I fear a leaderboard reset for this table as a pretty huge bug was discovered by members of the Zen forum. Apparently if you drain at the right moment after you complete Human Torch mission with the 40x multiplier activated, it will apply the 40x multiplier to your end of ball bonus. This can allow for some huge scores. Imagine a 5 million EoB bonus multiplied by 10x, for 50 million... then apply 40x on top of that. Yep, that's right... 2 billion points by intentionally draining :(

Sucks that this bug slipped thru the cracks.
I like comparing Pinball scores and challenging myself so send me a friend request if you feel the same - FatalSpiderbite
I will have to remember to add you when I get home.

I own all the tables for right now. I am laughing cause now my super score is higher than all the friends on my list combined that own this which isn't but six at the moment.

How do you improve your wizard score outside of playing the tables?
How do you improve your wizard score outside of playing the tables?
Add friends that play the game too.
Sucks that this bug slipped thru the cracks.
Indeed. I broke a 100 million the other day, legitimately I believe (though I did get a 16 million point bonus on one ball), and would really hate to lose the score... I've only broken 100 million on two tables, and I own like 17 or so.

My wizard score is still munged. I've played all the games except for the Marvel set (other then FF), but I only have credit for playing something like 5 or 6 machines. In the past, at least, my high scores were also messed up and would only show up when I went in and played a game again, then it would show my actual high score. I'm not sure if that was the case on the leaderboards or not. I've been thinking about deleting my data and starting over, but that's disheartening....

I think the main problem is that even though the physics in PFX2 are good, the ball still does the same exact things over and over.

Bingo. That basically sums up my entire feeling with PFX2.

Whereas a real machine is always surprising. Don't get me wrong - I do still like it and think it's the best thing going in video pinball right now.

Sadly, it's pretty much the only thing going in video pinball right now :(

I did eventually buy the FF table but didn't care for it. Too much crap going on, too many effects. A fair amount of posters on the Zen boards seem to have a good number of issues with it too.
