Pinball FX 2 - Free Paranormal table from 10/26 to 11/2!!!

I do pretty good at that also... Though I've never gotten the ball drop achievement on it.

As the ball is moving across the table, above the hand ninjas, press the Right Trigger to drop down and do a mario butt smash on them.:bouncy:

Yeah I've never defeated Sabertooth or gotten the claw save either.

Part of the problem with trying to initiate a fight with Sabertooth is that typically when your ball is about to release from the spinning disc (as its held by the three claw gate) it typically will drop straight down to instant death. This is starting to discourage me from even wanting to try and fight Sabertooth.
I'd say the best individual table is Earth Defense or Excalibur. Stay away from SF 2 - it's horrible.
Thanks for the tip. I was worried since SF2 is an older table that it would suck. I'll give Earth Defense a shot. What about Rocky & Bullwinkle?

I'd steer clear of ROcky & Bullwinkle and Nightmare mansion.

Rocky & Bullwinkle has alot of times where you hit the ball and it doesn't do anything or hit a target.

Nightmare Mansion has camera issues.

Agreed... Earth Defense is the best of the single tables, there is so much to do on it I still haven't figured it out.

I would cough up the extra 600 points for either the Marvel pack or the FX2 Core Pack... You would be getting 4 tables so a little more variety. There are certain gameplay functions like hotseat multiplayer that don't exist on the classic tables just on the new ones. Another thing is the new ones have operator menus that you can mess around in which is really pretty cool. Well worth the extra points.

But if your mind is made up on just getting 1 I would go for Earth Defense over Excalibur. Both are fun but ED is better IMHO.

Anyone get to Ultimo on Iron Man yet? I have beaten 3 or 4 of the missions in one game, how many missions are there to do before facing him? 6? Those ramps are so steep.

Thanks. Now you're tempting me towards one of the packs. I might go for it but will prob wait for a sale to hit. I'll mess with the ED trial for now and maybe snag it.

I'd second this comment, the PFX2 tables have deeper rulesets, video modes, hotseat, split screen and online multiplayer too. Marvels are well worth it too IMO, deep rules and great looking tables.

So the only tables with all the FX2 features are either in the FX2 core pack or Marvel pack? Dang, guess I won't waste my money on the individual options.

Not true, it's either slightly to one side but most never straight down the middle. If you can detect when the ball is going to go through the gap nudge the table a bit to prevent this. I say this while not following my advice half the time though haha.

Ok this is bugging me, what does the Sentential on Wolverine say before you launch your ball. "Running bullet holes"?! lol

Well I made it to the final stage in Spidey, but as usual I choked under pressure and drained my ball after locking 2 balls in Doc Lock... anyone make it further than me in this mode and can share some insight? How many balls do I have to lock? What do I do once I lock the required # of balls and multiball starts?

It seems that Spiderman is the highest scoring table and Blade is the lowest.

"Running protocols."

I downloaded the marvel pack today but it is not showing up. All the tables for it are still black and white. I have logged out of the game and back into it and still have the issue. Any help?

Oh well that makes more sense anyways haha.

Delete everything on your hard drive (FX2 and Marvel tables) and then go into download history and redownload them there. GL

I'm wondering why people are hating on the Blade table so much? To me it is laid out and plays very similar to The Simpsons Pinball Party, which is supposed to be pretty popular, right?

Thanks but after posting this and trying to download it for the third or fourth time it worked. I had to keep the download screen up instead of backing out and playing the game like I always do.

I really wish they would be able to get the T2 table but I'm not even sure they could get real tables for the game or are some of the tables in the game real ones? I have not seen a pinball machine around here in 15 years.

Since I've been favoring Spider-Man and Wolverine, I spent some time yesterday on Iron Man and Blade. Anyone else having a tough time on Iron Man getting enough momentum to send the ball up the ramps? I'm sure it's at least 80% user error, but I don't seem to have as much trouble on the other tables.

Yeah when I downloaded everything I waited on the downloads screen as well.

The Iron Man table is easier to shoot up the ramps than the Blade one imo.

It's way too hard to get them up the ramps. No idea why they're so steeply inclined.

It really seems to hit me in waves... Sometimes, yes, sometimes no... Likely more no than yes.

My biggest problem on that table is the 'ball lock' on the right hand side and having balls just ricochet off of it at such a high rate of speed that I cannot save it from going down the middle.

I also have a hard time getting up the ramps in Iron Man.

Got some more time in on them, and Iron man has very specific shots to make. If you don't make them, you don't score very fast.

Wolverine is easier if you can consistently make combos. Once you combo ramps 4-5X every ramp shot afterwords for awhile in Rage mode nets you 500K points per shot. Beat my score easily doing that.

I can't beat any of the enemies in any mode on any table. Very tough objectives to do so.

As far as the sabertooth shot, I don't find it very difficult, although the ball center drains about 20% of the time for me.

Had a nice game of Spiderman last night... Currently ranked #7 with 597 million.

I almost got to Ultimo last night on Iron Man, right after I beat the sixth mission my last ball insta-drained down the outlane so I couldn't even initiate the fight. Needless to say I was crushed. I will get to him eventually. The more I play Iron Man the more I like it but I hope they patch it and fix a few little things.

Wolverine's battle with Sabertooth seems almost impossible to me. That amnesia hole is so hard to hit. I got 3 of the 4 targets down before I ran out of time :( and I thought I was actually doing it fast. Also busted out my first claw save. Pretty cool feature and definitely comes in handy.

Been playin a good bit of pinball lately... :)

I got to Ultimo on the Iron Man table, had 2 more ramps to hit and couldn't do it. It's hard to hit those ramps when that big silver beast is right smack in the middle of the table. Quite a challenge getting to him too. Let me know if any of you have better luck.

Also got to the wizard mode in Wolverine. What a great table. Locking balls is a pain in the ass. This table becomes a lot easier once you practice the SNIKT saucer shot and get good at activating the claw save. A lot of the game modes have to do with those 2 saucer shots. I still have quite a bit of trouble getting it in the Amnesia saucer. I was able to get around 270 million for #8 on the Leaderboards :) Hopefully I can increase that score within the next few days.

So I'm in the top 10 on 2 of the Marvel tables, top 25 on Iron Man, and about 1500th on Blade lol. Haven't quite figured that one out yet.

Is using the "tilt" feature a must on these tables? I'm so new to pinball I hardly even know what it does. The only time I ever use it is when I'm trying to make a skill shot after I launch the ball. What are some tips you guys would offer a total beginner?

I would like to hear any tips also. I've never understood the most opportune moments to use tilt.
I need some friends with decent Superscores. Anybody with a good score not on my list yet?
I'll send you a FR.

I notice everybody on my friends list seems to always be playing wolverine.

Not my favorite, but one of the better ones on the pack for sure.

I'll shoot you a FR in a bit :)

Got to Ultimo again last night and buckled under the pressure. It's so hard to keep multiball alive for any given length of time. I actually got one of the balls to light on fire right before I drained it, lol.

I seem to do best on multiball with 2 balls. Any more than that and it's drain city.

So I ended up buying Earth Defense as my first table. Played the hell out of it and want to buy some more. I'm not a Marvel fanatic but do appreciate comics and have been playing X-MEN a lot. Should I go for the FX2 pack or Marvel next?

I would say the Marvel tables are more worth it. They don't really have video modes like FX2, but they are colorful, have deep rule sets, and are lots of fun.

What are video modes? Apologies for being unaware. Also, do the Marvel tables support split screen multiplayer?

Sorry, it's pinball-nerd speak for minigames using the dot matrix score display. They're usually nice ways to earn extra points. I don't know if Marvel supports multiplayer options. I'll check when I get home.

How is the Excalibur and STreet Fighter tables?
Excalibur is excellent and recommended. Street Fighter I'd stay away from. There's not much to do in it and many of the shots are very difficult.

Yeah Excalibur is a nice little table where you can learn to be really good at. The Street Fighter table will take years to master, it's so f'n hard lol. The only big thing about the SF table is the local multiplayer option.

Thanks man. I checked on a review of the Marvel pack and they are indeed split-screen compatible. I also played some of the table trials and think I'll go the Marvel route.

Good choice... It's inevitable if you like pinball you're going to eventually get them all. They are all great, some better than others, but all of them have their own charm.

Yeah that's me right there lol.

Ok so I think it's great when you finally get the Pinball Wizard Robe but you can't be a zombie underneath it!? lame

Edit: Odd, I got 116K so I unlocked the avatar robe and I checked it out with the avatar editor. Went back to the game and beat my high score on Wolverine and I'm back around 88K for Wizard Score?! Glitch!?

Maybe you lost 1 or 2 of your pinball friends since that score has a lot to do with how many friends you have. I get random FR sometimes and if they have FX2 I will add them, only to have them off my friends list the next day. Guess they were just boosting to get the robe.

I haven't hit 100k wizard score yet, sittin on around 90k. The wizard robe looks goofy as hell though, so I don't really care about unlocking it.

I should get you on my list Spy, I will shoot you a FR once I get on live.

Yeah I figure I'll end up with them all sooner or later. Hopefully the FX2 core pack or the original FX pack will go on sale before I wear out the Marvel tables.

BTW, I sent out a few more friend requests so heads up for gamertag "nah dew"

I got the Marvel Tables, the Fx2 Pack, Excalibur, and Nightmare Mansion on Saturday. Loving it so far. Anyone that wants to add me to help with superscore or compare please do so.

Hell M0nkey.

I only have like 2 or 3 friends who play pinball now.

Got a better score on Blade and I'm starting to get my groove with that table but the UV multiball mode can be distracting. It's a cool effect but it's almost like they're too bright. Still there is so much going on with that table.

Just posted my review. Thoroughly enjoying the game. Really wish I had heard more about the original. My only major complaint is that they don't explain how to do the specials/challenges.

Well, I'm a straight up pinball addict now. I've been playing the Marvel tables way too much and doubt I'll be able to hold out for a sale on the rest of the tables.

That said, I'll be without my 360 for a week or two and am trying to find a Mac compatible pinball game to play on the road. Anyone ever heard of or played LittleWing's pinball games?

Here's a link: http://www.littlewingpinball.com. I'll give some of the demos a go and report back.

EDIT: Whoa, just realized those LittleWing tables are like $35 a pop. fuck that! Still in the market for some Mac pinball but dang!

Yea both of the effects (UV and Fire) on the ball are a little distracting and make it tough to line up your shots correctly... I still haven't been able to get to the Wizard mode on Blade yet. The lair raid is pretty damn tough to complete (only completed it once so far) and also 1 or 2 of the missions have been giving it to me rough.

I do have some good news to report though. A Marvel tournament should be starting up tomorrow. No word on what table or what prize yet. The prize doesn't even matter since I basically know I can't win. I would need a miracle. There are some amazing pinball wizards out there. I've never gotten a score in the billions and judging by the last tourney, thats what you're gonna need. 14+ billion won it last time.

And also another good piece of info from the Zen forums... Solitude (the Zen rep on the official forums) didn't make any promises, but he said that a PC release is currently an option they are exploring with a vertical mode and multiple monitor support. This is great news to me as I intend on building one of those virtual PinMAME tables that I'm sure you guys have heard of. PinMAME is cool, and its nice to play real life machines, but the physics and graphics leave a lot to be desired. FX2 would be amazing on a life size machine and I will definitely build one if this PC port comes out.

On to the new DLC, Ghost Rider was in the lead forever and just in the past few days Captain America snaked the lead. I would have preferred Ghost Rider 1st, since I tend to like the darker themes. I just can't wait for some new content. They could release a new table every week similar to Rockband DLC and I would buy them all. I just love this game. Zen has guarenteed themselves day 1 purchases from me for life lol.

BTW, anyone have any luck on Ultimo? I've faced him like 6 or 7 times and have failed miserably each time. One game I hit him with the fireballs about 5 times before I lost multiball and the mode ended. I would have thought for sure that was enough but apparently not. Guess you have to hit him a couple more times

You can get Pinball HD on the Mac App Store.

It looks like the tourney is on Biolab instead of a Marvel table. Gives me a great excuse to finally learn how to score high on that one. Still a bit confused by it.

All of our Biolab high scores are going to drop like a rock on the leaderboards just like my SoTD score did the first time around lol.
