Added a line there. I won't argue anymore since I can understand everyone has their own gaming preference. But honestly all of your points sound really silly except wanting to game in your living room which is completely understandable.

I mean getting new graphic drivers is literally just opening the panel and pressing "Update drivers". Controllers you don't even do anything other than plug it in and it's all done automatically. Steam achievements are pretty much exactly like Xbox/PS and being annoyed at having taking 3 seconds to press "Auto Adjust" graphics sounds like a pretty lazy excuse.

Those were just some of the examples of what makes the entire experience of using a gaming rig so cumbersome. Like I said I just prefer the console experience and that's why the Xbox fan deflection statement of "if graphics are so important then just get a gaming PC" is annoying and irrelevant to me.

Wow really? That's all? Cool which shall I take that cost from? My monthly gas & electricity bill or rent? This may come as a shock to you but some of us can't afford that big of a hit plus what it costs to update. Sorry but a one-time $400 hit is doable, a pc is neither a one-time hit nor doable

Your priorities really change when staring down the barrel of an unexpected $1500 root canal. Suddenly $700 for a pc doesn't sound so bad.

It's an investment you save up for. I imagine you have a savings account, and I know most people usually put extra pay check money into said account. Most of the time you're saving up for the future but that doesn't mean people don't save up to buy big things. You make it sound like it's completely unobtainable to spend $700 on a PC but spending $400 for a console plus additional costs for more controllers and online isn't out of the question.

If it's not within your budget I can understand but you aren't expected to immediately plop down $700 just like that. Most people save money over time to buy expensive things they want, I know that's how I bought my PC by working a summer job at the time and slowly (Very slowly) saving my pennies.

Nobody said you have to upgrade every 2-3 years and I'm not sure why you assume that. Spend $700ish on a build and it'll still be stronger than consoles for years to come. It isn't like the power is slowly draining from the system just because newer parts come out. :wall:

Exactly. I decided I was gonna get an xbone for halo 5 back in june so started setting $10 from each paycheck aside and slowly and steadily the money built up. Then I decided I wanted it earlier and ramped it up to $50 a paycheck until I had the money in my bank account to cover it. It just takes some willpower not to blow it on something stupid occasionally.

That's quite an imagination you have there. I live paycheck to paycheck and the few extra dollars I get each week go towards distractions to keep me from blowing my brains out. So no, it's not a viable option. A one-time hit of 400 was doable thanks to what I had left from a tax return after paying off other debts. So by your logic, I should what, wait a few extra years to save up for a system that I won't be able to afford to maintain?

 
I'm just going to stop discussing it. I said Console/PC is based on preference and I really don't want to start telling you how to handle your financial situation since I'm sure that wouldn't blow over well and it'll just drag this discussion into the abyss of unending off-topic discussion.

 
$400. $35 x 8 a yr for online. $60 a game. Let's not forget the extra for a warranty if you decide to get one. It adds up. No one is attacking console gaming but people using money as an excuse need to run the numbers. If you aren't an update hungry person it is MUCH cheaper.

*Shrug*  People's time is worth a lot of money.  I personally don't build anymore because the time investment wasn't worth it to me.  By that, I mean actually updating drivers, software, trouble shooting issues, putting the machine together, and the like.

Case in point, it took me about 2 years to figure out what was causing BSODs in Diablo 3 on PC.  Literally 2 years.  What was causing them?  A fucking voltage setting not being set right in the BIOS.  Actually troubleshooting the error pointed me to a hardware or driver issue.  If it wasn't for a lucky shot in the dark forum post, I'd still be kicking my machine.

I like being able to see a box that says "" and knowing it's going to just work right out of the box, no hassle.

Edit to add:  Side note:  I'm not strapped for cash.  But after being a PC Gamer for a majority of my life . . . NO.  Dear God, NO.  The convenience of just jumping into party chat and the like is amazing.  And insert disc and play?  Sweet!  I'll take the convenience over "sweet graphics dude!" any day.

Trying to get the thread back on track. Just received a email with a Beta Code for The Crew. It won't let me redeem it but it's a known issue. Just waiting for them to fix it. Will post back after I get some time in.

I've given up arguing the rest of your points no matter how wrong they sound but I just wanted to highlight this one. Don't all Playstation 4 and Xbox One games force you to install them before you can play the game, literally the exact same way PC games do?

Yes. But it's literally insert disc and play. Sometimes instantly, sometimes wait a few minutes. There is no "Oh, wait, it has to check to see if my system requirements work. Oh, look, gotta update drivers and download a day one patch from another site." Everything is done automatically.

And arguing the rest of my points? The only other real point I was making is convenience / time based off of not having to deal with different hardware configurations (and the problems they can bring with them). I'd really like to see you tell me how troubleshooting makes my gaming experience more fun. Hint: Random blue screen's of death does not make Diablo 3 any less frustrating.

I literally combed the internet for months on end looking for a solution before giving up. After the new expansion came out, I bought it to try and continued to have the BSODs. This time, after weeks of searching, I stumbled upon a forum suggesting I change the voltage levels (to higher). Magic, it worked (after nearly frying my board on one occassion).

Yeah. Building a machine is great for gaming. I love the stress of not knowing if all my hardware components are going to work off the bat, and then diagnosing issues with the machine until I finally get it perfect . . .

Or, I could shell out the money on a console. And if it doesn't work out of the box, I return it and get a new one. No assembly / diagnosing required.

Convenience / Time. Why I console game.

My biggest problem with the PC crowd is them acting like console games never go on sale and all of them are $60. They love to brag about how much they save by playing on PC compared to console. There are plenty of deals on console games and on the consoles themselves on top of the fact that I get to trade in my games when I'm done with them. I went to Best Buy earlier today and traded in Destiny for $44 and bought Shadow of Mordor for ~$51 after tax, not to mention the $10 certificate I have coming my way. That is not possible on PC and is one of the biggest reasons I won't get into PC gaming.

It's all about ease of use for me, PC requires honestly too much time compared to console gaming. I love just coming home knowing a game is going to work and not worrying about what updates I need to use or if my graphics card/ram needs to be upgraded, or what resolution I can play it at. Much better to just stick the disc in and play.

 
The average consumer doesn't think like we all do.

It just all depends on you do your buying/trading. Also how the game installs in your PC if you can sell it or not.

Console gaming is cheaper for us because we're cheap asses and figure out how to work the system best for us. I'm thankful to all the hard work people put in with the trade in/GCU threads.

Between the two formats the mouse still reigns supreme. I used to play the competitive multiplayer game Counterstrike and no console game has come close to the precision and hardcore gameplay as the PC counterpart. The controller is always going to be behind the mouse. I doubt anybody would argue that. I've spent countless hours playing the classic PC games like CS, Diablo II, Starcraft, Warcraft, etc. I have yet to find any console game that will rival the addictive fun I've had with those games. They'll always rank up there as my all time favorites. However, like others as an ex PC gamer I've transitioned to console gaming now. The years I've spent on my PC mouse has been bad on my wrists. The fast twitch games will eventually catch up to your wrists so I've sworn off the keyboard and mouse for games forever now.

A lot of us that grow older end up getting desk jobs. I already work 8 hours on a computer (too much on cag but that's a different story altogether lol). The last thing I want to do when I get home is to be in front of a computer. The only thing I usually get back on for is to the check for any cag deals. It's a little tongue-in-check still for me but I still get amused at bringing up the "PC master race" which is true but that's a gaming platform that I've long left behind.

i play almost all pc games with xbox controller i just hate mouse keyboard which kept me away from pc games for years. i understand the smooth of fps with mouse but just hate keyboard while gaming.

Sorry I should have been more clear. What i meant was PS4 you can start playing early in the install process while on Xbox One You have to wait till later on in the install process to start playing. I remember when I was installing DR3 I had to wait till like 80% till i could start playing.

some ps4 games do that i know watch dogs was one you could only play so much of first mission until full game is installed . recent game on xbox one i installed fifa about 20 percent done it allowed me to play. The system has nothing to do with it it's how the devs set it up.

I like computers so much that I once installed freebsd. If I gamed on pc I would never get around to actually playing anything because after a week with windows I would want to wipe windows for something else. And to be fair it's pretty easy to know if your hardware is going to work. Just pick your motherboard first and keep the motherboard specs pulled up in one tab while searching around for other components. Pretty dang easy actually. And putting it together is easier then some of the stuff they sell at ikea.

I have never ever waited more than a minute to play a game when i put it in, only Once have I had to wait to play the full game, NBA 2k only let you play now while it installed. Xbox is proven it takes several minutes until you can boot the game, that is the hardware, seeing as the same games are quicker on PS4.

 
For references sake, both the PS4 and Xbox One let you play games as they install but for the Xbox One you need to install some of it first with it varying on the game between like 25-50% before you can do anything. I don't play my PS4 much but it sounds like there's no wait for you to play.

Both systems however I believe only let you play select content until everything installs. I know when I played Watch Dogs I could only do the first tutorial like mission before it stopped me and said it needed to install more and I assume the PS4 version is the same way.

Yes and no, I never hit that point, and the only game I ever hit the select content part was NBA 2k. For some reason the full game install is also quicker than Xbox one for PS4 as well. I put in shadow of mordor and instantly played the game without a wait or a stop message in order to play. It isn't there

 
Would like to get some PSN Friends.  I literally have 2 PSN friends right now.  I've been a CAG listener/lurker for a couple years now.  

Had a 360 and a PS3, but I don't plan on getting an XBOne.  Going to stick with the PS4 for my console stuff and do some work on getting a new PC built for Big Picture Steam + Oculus when it comes out.  So far I've played NFS Rivals and The Last of Us Remastered, plus some various PSN titles.

Do you guys unplug your stuff during thunderstorms?  I've never lost anything but, the power has been going out more than normal lately and I'm kinda getting paranoid after learning that the outlet I used to plug my stuff into wasn't grounded properly and having to move everything.

I'd rather not deal with any kinda of insurance but, my ps4 is covered by the year warranty still and i did buy the 2 year one on psn. Plus my monitor apparently has a 3 year warranty. I have that same surge protector in about 5 different places in my house (the 8 outlet version but it's basically the same) and so far so good. I don't keep my PS4 in Standby mode unless I'm wanting to charge my controllers or remote play however, it's really not good for the power to go out when it's in Standby.

is this true? Happened a few times so far and so far so good. But I guess I could deal with waiting for fw downloads if its safer. My controllers are charged with a dock anyway
 
If my PS4 is in standby and the power goes out the next time I turn it on a process will run that basically checks the hard disk for errors.....yeah I don't like that haha.
 
The Last of Us started out really slow but it will pick up. The game is not for everybody though. Not sure where you are at though, but I notice that after a certain event happened, the game started to get enjoyable for me.

I'm still early in maybe 90 minutes in so far but, maybe I just don't have the patience for this game. Stupid clickers one hit kill while I can just bash the shit out of everybody else. Honestly just thinking of trading it in if I don't start enjoying it by end of weekend. Only lose $8 or so if I do it before tiv drops

Yeah you are still very early, it will pick up though. Later in the game you get stuff that prevent one hit kill with clickers. There is more mechanics and upgradeable that will open up later. The game is a slow burner for sure.

Slightly spoiler-ish but it pick up once
it's really just about Joel and Ellie.

I enjoyed TLOU, but there's a couple parts that I wasn't into. It's a great game with a great story but it's not for everyone. Those Clickers are a pain in the ass. I never played Online personally but I heard the Multiplayer is really good.
 
When I first got the game I was into the MP for the Last of Us. Then I took a huge break and couldn't get back into it again. I'm not really into that whole meta game of doing challenges or your group gets sick / infected.

 
Anyone playing shadows of mordor? I love the game so far. My only complaint is the camera I feel like its zoomed in too close to the character.

I was playing it before Smash dropped, my only gripe is I wish the run & stealth buttons were switched. Too often I hit the trigger to take off running only to have the opposite happen.

Too used to AC controls, I suppose.
