Playstation 5 Re-stock Thread

Yeah, sorry about that guys. I saw it all over my twitter I should have read it first. I follow a lot of gamers from the Uk and didn't realize it was UK stores. Even saw some US youtubers retweet but then figured out they just wanted clicks and views.

I will be more careful before sharing. Mods can delete that post if they see this.
I mean, you can just edit the post to say it's about the UK. Still relevant, just not to most people.

Did anyone here pre-order from Target? I did as a fail safe, and their policy states on their site it would do a temporary hold and drop off. Well, that happened, then for some reason a few days later the pending charge popped back up and they fully charged me, it's no longer pending.

What's the deal?

Sony needs to get their shit together. Every YouTuber and tech blogger got working demo units of series x. All we got was a Travis Scott tweet with the dual sense.

I did preorder and saw the temporary hold disappear from my account a few days after placing the preorder,

but yea last Friday I had that same charge show up again on my account as pending... it has not gone through yet for me though, it still shows as pending today, but it is weird that they are charging it again...

I wonder if you will get reimbursed then if the order is cancelled online before they ship it?

Agreed...and why Travis Scott of all people....
MS is selling more impressive hardware for the price

sony would prefer the ps5 be hyped and advertised, rather than compared directly to the series x in a critical manner, as long as they reasonably can anyway

Either it’s fake for him to get likes or it’s because he has a lot of gen z followers. Not sure why he would be the only person with one.
Based on the McDonald’s disaster recently I can guarantee Travis Scott has a lot more influence over what millennial/gen z kids buy than all of the YouTubers and tech influencers combined.

It’s always funny seeing these kind of posts, as 99% of gamers don’t care. Same with the “Sony better get things straightened out with preorders or they’ll do terrible this gen”. No they won’t, 99% of people that were going to get one will eventually get one anyways.

Gamers (and people in general) are needy and find a way to make something that isn’t really a big deal sound awful.

The reality is hype sells consoles the first year or two and not so much games. Giving reviewers early consoles and announcing buying Bethesda simply will get gamers more excited than a cryptic tweet. Still excited for my ps5.

What's so special about him compared to other rappers or other singers like bts

Best Buy would do this with me all the time if I preordered something that was a few months out. It seemed like it was a rolling pre-auth that would hit once a month to validate that the payment method was still good and the total amount was available then drop off a few days later.

Not sure what age you think millennials are, but millennials are adults now, even at the younger end of the generation range. The oldest millennials are nearing 40.

I am just barely a Millennial. I had/have no idea who Travis Scott is. I will say I'm not a fan of Sprite or bbq sauce as a dipping option for fries. That aside Sony is actually behind with their console launch. It's less to do with the hardware. Microsoft is going to push games as a service and it's going to be hard to match them. They suffered last cycle because of the lack of quality content. If they can keep the momentum going Sony might actually have a fight on their hands. I got my PS5 preorder in happily but in a few years I might pick up whatever refresh they have for the series X.

Reread it slower this time
If your intent was that the word "kids" was only meant to be paired with the "gen z" part that came after the slash, then you should have written it as "millennials/gen z kids".

Writing it as "millennial/gen z kids" makes it look like you are shortening "millennial kids and gen z kids". One assumes that "kids" pairs with the words before and after the slash, unless your intent was that there is one very specific millennial out there who is heavily influenced by Travis Scott.

What a stupid meal. U can just literally order that sandwich, add bacon to it, ask for bbq sauce then u got a “Travis Scott meal” nothing special about it. In fact I feel bad for people who bought it

For those that need the explainer, Travis Scott is kind of analogous to Kanye West for the younger generation. Had a good album and some tracks, kind of sold out over time, had a baby with a Kardashian, gets by largely on "brand" more so than music at this point. Big enough to host his own sold out music festival and sell out of $80 concert tees. Will probably do a KPop collab within the next year.

Not saying it will do as much for some crowds as tech Youtubers, since I imagine early adopters tend to do research and will appreciate that. However, does show they know the power of social media and may bring in the crowd that waits in line for "lifestyle" items like $500 sneakers.

Why didn't Sony go with an Intel/Nvidia setup instead?
My best guess is cost. AMD has been cheaper for equal or better performance at least on the processor side for some time now. Intel is finally starting to catch up. Since AMD owns ATI, they also probably got a package deal with the processor and GPU units where Intel and Nvidia are two separate companies.

Their shit together or what? Y’all won’t preorder and shut down sites and stock in minutes? You’re eating out of the palm of their hands and they don’t have to do shit to keep it that way. Folks don’t even know what that camera does etc. but you gobble it. So stop the Sony better bullshit like the consumer has any power here.

I don't really care about the camera. The ssd setup is a little more interesting. Microsoft has that proprietary setup that will help them at first but down the road it could give Sony an advantage. We still won't have a lot of games for either system until the middle of next year. That gives Sony a little more breathing room for more pcie gen 4 drives to drop.

I agree on the SSD and Installing a 1TB SSD into the PS4 Pro was easily one of the decisions made for additional console investments and easy to notice results when comparing to friends who play on the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro (HDD). (We compared load in times for Destiny, Call of Duty BLO4 and MW, etc - I consistently was either first to load into the map or waiting screen and sometimes by large margins).

PS5 Topic - Has anyone had any status changes of pre-orders? Among 3 friends - I have the antonline.com pre-order with no updates, one friend has a best-buy preorder (status still says pre-order and is green) but he started panicking about the credit card auth appear and disappear. I showed him the prior pages as evidence its fine so long as it doesn't say cancelled etc. Last friend has Gamestop and hasn't had any updates either.

Wait they are just now notifying them about their allocation numbers? That seems a little backwards. Hopefully everybody here that have it pre ordered gets one. Would be a huge bummer to have to start hunting one down again.
They're given expected units, then actual. This is why retailers oversell sometimes because numbers fluctuate and it is the retailer's job to manage that uncertainty wisely. Granted, short-changing does happen and that's on the manufacturer. That's why when PS2 launched, stores were notifying customers that were already pre-ordered of the allocation cut roughly by half.

This is exactly why I made multiple different retailer orders in case of delays or cancellations. Day one, I'm guaranteeing myself at least one console.

I did the same but we still might not even get one depending on where they were from. Cheapy said on the podcast last week that there were 4 times as many preorders for PS5 than there were for PS4 and some retailers probably massively oversold what they are going to be able to fulfill.

No doubt. Speaking for myself, I think it's underestimated just how much certain households have saved by staying home over the course of a year and are ready to spend this holiday online. My gas expense savings alone this year are enough to cover both consoles, which is rather eye-opening.

I’m glad the XSX will be back compat so we can have a lot ready to play on the same system from the get-go. I don’t like having more than the current gens hooked up

F-off buddy. I’ll say whatever I want to say. I Iive in a free country. You can go gobbling up what ever shit you want.

I like the idea of backwards compatibility but have never really had a lot of use for it. In my case I might go back and play a previous gen game but usually that's as far back as I go. Older games while nice in a nostalgic sense aren't very appealing to play. The mechanics often don't age well. The PS5 can run PS4 games and that's good enough. I don't need to play FF7 from the PS1. I would however like a good remake of the jak and daxter games (with updated visuals and mechanics).

I wish both Xbox and PS would of went with a more apple like strategy. So take as many preorders as you want and just let the customer know it will be fulfilled as it comes. Like it's not about having the PS5 or Series X console day one for me. It's about knowing I'm in line to get one at some point because I don't want to hunt for a console at holiday time. Even if it came in Jan, that's fine, as long as I know I got one coming.

That would work for me as well. It would have to be within reason though. I wouldn't want to be at the tail end of a six month backlog to get one of them. The problem they face is that they don't have the same level of control over the production process as Apple does.

I am 100% with you. I think BC is one of the most overrated features ever on any console. I personally have very little if any use for it.

That said, I can see it being a nice seller for people who are new into the ecosystem. Me and you and most people on CAG have had consoles for generation after generation, so we've played all of the old games.

The other day though my brother told me he wanted to get an Xbox or PS5 for his kids for xmas and asked me which one to get. They haven't had any consoles ever. I told him it really depends what games they want to play and he said his kids mainly want to play sports games and then I said it doesn't really matter. But then he said he'd like to play some games too like COD and other games.

Then it hit me that BC would be great for him. So I then recommended he get a PS5 because there are so many awesome PS4 games that he will be able to play on it that he doesn't even know exist right now. TLOU2, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, etc.

I think BC is a great feature for the CAG crowd, actually. Most of us have extensive backlogs, and being able to play them through the early drought of new games (and neither console has a stellar launch lineup, although Sony's is the better of the two). The Series X's ability to spruce up XB1 games was very well received this week. Not only can you play last gen games, but you can play them significantly better on Series X. I'm hoping for similar upgrades on PS5 for PS4 games (and not just the specifically upgraded to PS5 ones).

If you are a CAG, you likely are into saving money, and being able to sell your old console but still play the games fits right in.

Best to use PayPal friends and family option as it’s free and can’t get disputed later. zelle is a god option as well, once the money is out of your checking account it can’t be disputed with zelle and it’s free. Granted tour bank needs to have this option.

Lastly only meetup are a local pick/drop off location or be instant you meet up at police station. Insisting on digital currency exchange and going to a police station will weed out a lot of scammers.
What do you think about meeting at the bank?

I really like BC and here’s why-

I’m no longer a “gamer.” I like video games. There are games series I love and will buy every game of (Uncharted). There are games I’ll play casually with friends (Madden, NHL, MLB the show). I hardly have the time or energy to play games (4 year old and a 2 month old will do that to a guy). I play maybe an hour a week these days.

I don’t want a bunch of consoles hooked up anymore. I’ve got the PS4 on my living room 4k TV. That’s getting sold and replaced with a ps5. I’ve got an Xbox one x hooked up to the projector in the basement. That’ll be replaced with a Series X. Each tv has a switch dock, which is awesome. With BC, I don’t need to keep the previous gen consoles if I can still play those games on the new ones. I still have my ps3 but it’s not even hooked up.

I like backwards compatibility, especially this gen.  We are at a point where most smaller games don’t come anywhere close to utilizing the full potential of the console anyway.  Hollow knight for example is a great game but would likely be no different on PS4 versus PS5.  Backwards compatibility also gives publishers more of an incentive to improve or add to a game if they want to re-release it next gen.

Count me in as loving backwards compatibility as well. You know older games, if they were good, are still worth playing. I know getting the 3DS got me to play a good amount of DS games, and on the PS2 I was still playing PS1 games for a while till I finished most of the physical ones I owned. I have an extensive backlog of PS4 games, so it will be appreciated especially since I never bough a Pro. Some games don't run amazing (Ghosts during some missions and fights), so I will be glad to play them hopefully with some graphical enhancements no matter how minor they are. Also first years for games generally have quite spaced out releases with many dry spells so it's a great time to hack through our PS4 backlogs.

I only care about being able to play Def jam fight for ny and fight night. Other than that I can’t think of old gen games I wanna play. Metal gear solid 4 if it still had online.

I want BC because if my BC PS3 bites the dust then my ps1, ps2, and p3 collection becomes just that. A collection.

We all know some retailers aren't guaranteed a ps5 by launch. Now with the people who had the special invite with sony are those gonna be guaranteed for launch

Wow this is random but why did they massacre the look of Peter Parker in Spider-Man Remastered?

Really makes me wonder if I want to get the Miles Morales Ultimate Edition.

Yeah I have the standard version pre ordered and I've been second guessing it and thinking I should change to the ultimate for the remaster but I'm happy to skip it now. I got the platinum and played the hell out of it, no need for me to revisit it this soon and this is just such a strange unnecessary change.

Yeah I’m definitely keeping my old copy at least now. The original Peter Parker was perfect, didn’t look like a clone of previous Spider-Man actors and people just enjoyed that Peter Parker a ton. Why would they change it for a bad looking version of Tom Holland?

Now we’ll have this new version in the full sequel when it hits ugh.

Edit: In the comparison version the Remaster actually looks worse than the original game.
